Crime / Preacher Beaten For Stealing Phones In Ibadan by Sunnick(m): 9:55am On Aug 16, 2019 |
A self-acclaimed evangelist, Mr Akinjide Durojaiye, was on Thursday beaten to a pulp for allegedly stealing two new Tecno mobile phones from a shop within the Femi Johnson Building in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The 49-year-old man, who claimed to be an evangelist at the Dominion Assembly, Ilare-Ijesa in Osun State, said he was in the shop, where mobile phones and accessories were being sold, to preach the gospel to all the people he found there. Durojaiye claimed that he came from Ilare-Ijesa to Ibadan on an evangelisation mission, adding that the ‘spirit’ directed him to the shop to preach to the attendants and others. He was said to have been apprehended by the attendants and other onlookers while trying to escape with the two phones valued at N70,000. One of the shop attendants, who gave his name simply as Tunde, said he did not notice when the evangelist pilfered the phones, which were on display, saying he and the others were already carried away by his preaching. While being chased by the attendants and neighbours, Durojaiye was said to have hidden in a store within the complex, but was located by an attendant in another shop after which he was brought out and beaten, while the phones were recovered from him. The self-acclaimed evangelist, who clutched a copy of the Holy Bible to his chest, attributed the incident to the work of the devil, adding that his attempt to get money to treat his seven-year-old son, who is on admission in a hospital in Osun State, pushed him into committing the crime. Durojaiye, a father of four, said the son, whose name he gave as Oluwadurosinmi, jumped down from a two-storey building in Ilare-Ijesa and was hospitalised because of the injuries he sustained. He also claimed that his wife had divorced him and left him to take care of the children alone. The man was later released due to the intervention of some persons in the neighbourhood, who had thronged the scene of the incident. https://punchng.com/preacher-beaten-for-stealing-phones-in-ibadan/

Sports / Anthony Joshua Reveals Mistakes In His Shock Defeat To Andy Ruiz Jr by Sunnick(m): 9:44pm On Aug 09, 2019 |
Anthony Joshua admits he was not fully focused before his shock defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr and has revealed that the boos he heard during his loss in New York had an impact on his tactics for the fight. Joshua suffered the first defeat of his career at Madison Square Garden in June as he was knocked down four times before Ruiz sealed his surprise victory in the seventh round. Joshua has come under scrutiny for his preparations before his fight against Ruiz, with his promoter Eddie Hearn claiming that the 29-year-old was not ‘war ready’ before his debut in the United States. And now Joshua admits he was concentrating more on a unification fight against Deontay Wilder than facing Ruiz, who was a late replacement for Jarrell Miller. ‘With this fight here, I feel like where I’ve been fighting for so many years, when I came into the boxing arena, it was like I was steamrolling through,’ Joshua told JD Sports. Joshua’s going to fight, yeah, boom, knock them out, so from walking into a gym, to three years later competing in the Olympics, from turning professional to three years later becoming world champion, it seemed like this was already written in the stars. ‘But I think behind the scenes, the efforts, the education, the mind training that it takes to develop these skills and capabilities to be in that position are tiring. ‘When it looks easy, they never truly respect what it is you are trying to achieve.’ When it was suggested that the fight looked easier than others, Joshua replied: ‘It seemed that way. ‘My purpose for that fight was, ‘am I fighting Wilder next?’. ‘The purpose for that fight was, ‘what is he doing next?’, it wasn’t solely on winning that fight. ‘This fight, in terms of what it meant, there was no real gain in it. ‘So beating Ruiz, I could be sitting here now and it wouldn’t have meant as much to me as it is to train for the rematch. ‘Everything it meant to Ruiz winning, is everything it didn’t mean to me beating him.’ Joshua also admits he looked for a quicker knockout once he heard the crowd booing after the end of the second round. ‘In the second round I heard the crowd booing, someone told me there was a fight going on in the arena, that’s why,’ he said. ‘But [my] debut in New York… crowd’s booing.’ Asked if that got to his head, Joshua replied: ‘Correct. ‘And especially the week before, Wilder had knocked [Dominic] Breazeale out in the first round and I’m fighting two weeks after, so [I thought] ‘let’s go and handle business’, I don’t want to let the people down.’ https://metro.co.uk/2019/08/08/anthony-joshua-reveals-mistakes-shock-defeat-andy-ruiz-jr-10538325/amp/

Crime / Gang Leader Whose Elaborate Daughter Disguise Failed Found Dead by Sunnick(m): 7:46am On Aug 07, 2019 |
Convicted drug dealer Clauvino da Silva was found dead in his jail cell after a failed escape attempt. A Brazilian gang leader whose failed prison escape attempt made headlines around the world when he dressed up as his daughter was found dead in his jail cell Tuesday. Authorities found convicted drug dealer Clauvino da Silva, 42, hanged in Rio de Janeiro. He was serving a sentence of 73 years and 10 months in solitary confinement on counts of drug trafficking, the BBC reports. Silva, also known as Baixinho or “Shorty,” attempted to escape prison Saturday when his 19-year-old daughter visited him for the day. During her visit, she stayed in his cell while he tried to make his escape by dressing up as her, donning a pink T-shirt, a black wig, silicon mask and tight jeans to conceal his identity. His disguise failed, however, when prison guards noticed something was awry. As he made his way toward the penitentiary’s main door, his air of nervousness gave him away. Once apprehended, prison officials forced him to strip in front of cameras and reveal himself. After his failed escape, Silva was transferred to a maximum-security prison. Silva was part of the leadership of the Red Command, one of Brazil’s most powerful criminal organizations based in Rio that controls a majority of the country’s drug trafficking. The gang is Brazil’s oldest criminal group and took lead as the largest drug organization when it partnered with Colombian drug cartels in the 1980s. Silva had made a previous prison escape in 2013 when he, along with at least 30 other prisoners, fled a prison facility in Gericin by digging a 15-foot tunnel to a sewer system. Four of the prisoners were apprehended but Silva was among 27 others who succeeded. He was arrested a month later. https://www.foxnews.com/world/brazil-gang-leader-daughter-disguise-found-dead
