The State of Libraries in Ikorodu: A Call for Urgent Intervention Libraries are the backbone of intellectual development, fostering knowledge, research, and community growth. However, the current state of public libraries in Ikorodu is deeply concerning. Most are in a state of neglect, lacking contemporary reading materials, reference books, research resources, and even basic computer systems. "Ikorodu Oga", despite your growing status as a major district in Lagos State, it is unfortunate that no public library within Ikorodu area is fully functional—some are barely even 10% operational. This is a stark contrast to the image of Ikorodu as a vibrant and progressive community. A First-Hand Experience of Library Neglect Since November 2024, I have been visiting various libraries across Ikorodu, including those in Igbogbo and other areas, hoping to find improved facilities. Unfortunately, my observations paint a bleak picture. Many libraries remain in a dilapidated state, some appear presentable on the outside but lack books and essential reading materials inside the Igbogbo Library, frequently locked, denying access to knowledge seekers. Only look fine from the outside. The Ikorodu Library located near the General Hospital, is a prime example again of neglect. The building is outdated, dusty, and poorly maintained. The books available there are ancient, with many dating back several decades, none reflects contemporary issues, policies, or recent academic advancements. There is a complete absence of books published in the last 10–20 years, making it impossible for readers to stay informed about modern governance, public policy, law enforcement activities and socio-economic trends. Last December, I was directed to the Ikorodu Town Hall library that, there is a library in there, only to reach there and discover that its collection is primarily tailored for primary and secondary school students preparing for Common Entrance, WAEC, and JAMB. The only advanced level book I found there was a sociology text dating back to Nigeria’s Second or Third Republic clearly outdated and irrelevant to today's realities. The Need for Comprehensive Library Reform As an avid reader, I long to explore well-stocked libraries where I can learn about Lagos State government structures: its executive, legislature, judiciary, and policies. I want to understand the history and impact of Lagos transport system, particularly the evolution of BRT after Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s administration. I wish to study the roles of LASTMA in traffic control, the contributions of CBD officers, and the influence of CDA-CDC and community development officers. Moreover, I am eager to explore literature on Lagos State judiciary, laws, law enforcement, and government policies affecting human well-being. Sadly, the existing libraries in Ikorodu do not provide these resources. As someone who values knowledge, it is frustrating that we lack access to contemporary books on governance, legislation, public policy, and community development. A Call to Action: Government and Community Intervention Needed I urge the Lagos State Government, the Lagos Library Board, the Ministry of Education, Ikorodu Local Government, and the leadership of various Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to take immediate action in revamping our libraries. Stakeholders, including Ikorodu erudites, Ikorodu clubs such as Oriwu Club, book lovers, community leaders, and NGOs must also rise to this challenge. 1. Upgrade Library Facilities: Modern libraries should be equipped with updated books, reference materials, and digital resources to meet contemporary reading and research needs. 2. Restock with Current Books not Medieval books: Libraries should provide current books covering diverse subjects, including public policy, governance, law, transport management, and community development not outdated ones. 3. Ensure Accessibility: Libraries should be functional and accessible to the public during convenient hours. 4. Encourage Community-Driven Initiatives: If government intervention is slow, private individuals, groups, and NGOs should establish and stock community libraries too, to ensure we are in the known of Civil Society activities with government. 5. Digitization of Libraries Need too: The inclusion of e-books and computer systems will help bridge the knowledge gap in an increasingly digital world but sometimes it diverts concentrations but it is equally needed like physical books. For Ikorodu to truly thrive as an intellectual hub, we must prioritize knowledge access. A society that neglects its libraries denies its people the opportunity to know and grow academically, professionally, and intellectually. We need free physical and digital books to read in our libraries and the time for action for the books and facilities to have the books is now. #RevampIkoroduLibraries #KnowledgeForAll #SaveOurLibraries Written by: Asiabodu Dated: 1st March, 2025. |
On Dec 28, 2024 I don't trust this 1play people I think they are directly and indirectly defrauding Nigerians of their #500, #500 depending numbers of time you play. I have been playing this game when it was 200 naira I never win, since they raised it to 500 naira I have been playing with all my 3 mobile line severally, they never deem fit or dream one day to say one of my number has won. Are they true ? Are they real? Are neural people really winning or is just an arraignment of a thing? |

Oh sorry man for the lost note your suffering charging is on 40% by the time it gets to 100% full you will understand that it is good for a knowledgeable leader to run a country to have plan ahead Incase when he rig himself in or manipulated in by eye neck, he should have continued with is original plan. He that fails to plan plans to fail. |
Can't we find young mind angile, entrepreneur mind and experienced in the private or public enterprise to lead this failing Nigeria-state? Why should we continue to subscribes for old cargoes with saturated and soured milk brain when we have younger people making waves locally and internationally. |
There should also be a bill to confisticate 1000 and 500 naira while returning 1 naira and 50k note back. |
[quote author=Tenifayo23 post=133212925]A lieutenant in the army is a commission officer and a warrant officer is a senior non commission officer ( snco). In age, the warrant officer will be more advance than the lieutenant however, the lieutenant is more advanced than the warrant officer by rank and military job is not done by age but rank. A warrant officer dare not because of any reason refused lawful order given by a lieutenant else na charge go end am. Lieutenant is even too big to give a warrant officer order. A 2nd Lt that joined the armed forces today will give a army warrant officer order ( the most senior non commission officer) and he must comply. I must however admit that few of this senior non commission officer do have experience than freshly commissioned officer but that's not in all cases. Even when a snco gives an officer advice, such snco will not be liable because it is expected that the officer should know more and lead his men from the position of knowledge at all time. What's the full meaning of snco |
Ethnic bias and religion prejudice has killed federal Character. But I forsee if an Igbo got into power by chance anyway, and do the same, Hausa and Yoruba will bring down the country with their West-media, Protest will engulf Lekki toll gate and Ojota, every part of West and North, Amoteku will be legalized and full arm with sophisticated arm same will be going on in North with advance baditary and terrorism and the Igbo present may not survive the heat of threats |

In Lagos some or many degree holders earn less than 100k on level 8 so, Lagos doesn't pay well Lagos workers are living on loan from many cooperatives loan and online loans but they won't let you know they are suffering base on renumeration except they collect bribe to complement their salary.
