Politics › Re: FCT Property Tax Bill - ‘75% of Taxes Collected In FCT End Up In Private Hands.’ by Sunofgod(op): 5:49pm On Jul 18, 2012
‘75% of taxes in FCT not remitted’

About 75 per cent of taxes collected by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is not being remitted into government’s coffers, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT, Senator Smart Adeyemi, has said.

Adeyemi, while commenting on the two Bills he introduced in Abuja, said the money collected as taxes ended in private pockets because there are no laws on the taxes collection in the FCT.

“About 75 -85 per cent of all the taxes you see people collect in Abuja go to private pockets. That explains why it suits some senior staff of the FCT that we don’t have a board of internal revenue. So it pays them that this law is not passed.

“But when you have a board in place you can sit down and articulate all the taxes and levies you are supposed to collect, ‘’ he said.

He said the property tax is aimed at getting the wealthy people to contribute to the well-being of the masses, adding that the use of the proceeds would be effectively monitored

“This bill is targeted at the high brow areas of Abuja. Let them pay because they can afford it. Let’s take from the rich people and provide for the poor.

“ We are going to make sure that the proceeds coming from property tax will not be used to pay contractors constructing roads in Abuja. We are going to focus on development that will impact positively on the lives of the people of the FCT.

In his contribution, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said the laws must provide checks to guard against abuses and sharp practices.

“It’s our responsibility to legislate on taxes. However, we have to make sure they are flexible to allow the revenue board to determine rates that will be paid. The bills must be proactive enough and make it leak-proof so as to check any leakages of funds,’’ he said.

Senator Ahmed Lawan (ANPP –Yobe) urged the Senate to ensure that only people with integrity were appointed into the FCT internal revenue board.

“Those who are going to collect the taxes and levies must be very honest and transparent people. There’s need to make it impossible that exemptions are granted to some members of the public by the Minister, ‘’ he added.

Politics › FCT Property Tax Bill - ‘75% of Taxes Collected In FCT End Up In Private Hands.’ by Sunofgod(op):
A bill for an Act to provide for the collection of property tax in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has passed second reading in the senate.

The bill seeks to boost revenue generation in the FCT by enhancing the capacity of the FCT administration to impose property tax on land and buildings in specified areas of the FCT.

The bill to establish the FCT board of internal revenue also passed second reading in the upper legislative chamber.

Sponsor of the bill, Senator Smart Adeyemi, said the basis for the property tax bill is to generate internal revenue for the FCT to guard against the danger of bankruptcy as evidenced in many states of the federation.

Despite support from other lawmakers, they advised that the bill should be thread upon cautiously.

Senator Adeyemi said, the bill when passed into law “would enable the FCT collect taxes and also determine the actual taxes collected in the nation’s capital to ensure better planning.”

Wife of the former senate president, Chuba Okadigbo, was also sworn in at plenary.

Margery Okadigbo was sworn in as the senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District following a Supreme Court ruling after a long legal battle over the seat.

The Supreme Court in Abuja declared Lady Margery Okadigbo, the duly nominated candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and hence the winner of the April 16, 2011 senatorial election for Anambra North zone.

It would be recalled that several factions of PDP in the state had remained enmeshed in bitter lawsuits over who was the duly and validly nominated candidate from the party’s primary elections ahead the general election in the state last year.

The bitter acrimony had left the seat vacant and the zone without representation and a voice in the nation’s Upper Legislative chamber for the past one year.

Even their defence seems pretty disrespectful:

"We do not believe there is any basis in law for such a fine," said a Shell spokesman. "Neither do we believe that Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company has committed any infraction of Nigerian law to warrant such a fine."

However, Shell claims that none of the crude reached land and that much of the leaked oil dispersed naturally in the water or evaporated. Some crude did wash up along the Western Niger Delta coastline, which Shell cleaned up, despite expressing doubts that it originated from Bonga.

Politics › FRSC Acquires Equipment To Check Over-Speeding by Sunofgod(op): 6:26pm On Jul 17, 2012
Eket (Akwa Ibom) – Mr Yakubu Attah, Zonal Commanding Officer of the FRSC Zone 6 Command of the commission said on Monday that the commission had acquired an equipment to check over-speeding by drivers.

Attah, an Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Zone 6 in Port Harcourt, said in an interview in Eket that the commission was also poised to check over-loading.

Attah disclosed that the commission recently took delivery of hand-held radar guns to monitor motorists who drove beyond speed limits.

”Over-speeding and over-loading are of serious concern to the FRSC.

”Recently, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Mr Osita Chidoka, procured some hand-held radar guns to clamp down on over-speeding drivers.

“So over-speeding will soon be a thing of the past, all we need to do with the new drivers’ licence is to take your number and arrest you on the point of renewing your vehicle papers.

“So you may over-speed but you are not far from us, ” he said.

On the recommendation that the FRSC should be scrapped or merged with the police, Attah said that such calls would not be justified, in view of the strategic nature of the commission on safety of commuters on the nation’s roads.

“It is not justifiable because FRSC has come a long way, FRSC is a household name, above all, the FRSC is the lead agency in terms of road safety administration and management.

“It is not justifiable at all, I am of the view that the government should have a re-think, ” he said.

The Zonal Commanding Officer said that he was committed to boosting the morale of the commission’s officers and men as a way of improving their productivity.

He said that Chidoka appreciated the sacrifices being made by the commission’s officers in discharging their duties. (NAN)

These must be the harshest laws in the world!

What if different states implement different laws - then what?

The first thing they should have done (Federal Govt) is made a 'highway code booklet' and distributed to all drivers in Nigeria.

As things stand I'm sure that whatever 'Federal Laws' are in place can be the only laws that stand.

Or is Lagos now a seperate country?

What if my village decide to come up with their own laws - such as 'Any driver that drives with less than half a full tank will be fined 50k or 5 years imprisonment?

Finally, where do the fines go? (Tinubu) and what will they be used for? (Road Safety Improvements or enriching Tinubu and co)

Politics › EFCC Begins Trial Of Muslim, Christian Clerics For Diversion Of N10m by Sunofgod(op): 5:00pm On Jul 16, 2012
The Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said it has arraigned three clerics before Justice M. S. Shu’aibu of the Federal High Court, Yola, Adamawa State on a six-count charge bordering on money laundering and obtaining N10 million by false pretence.

Those on trial are two leaders of the Taraba State chapter of the Muslim Council, Alhaji Inuwa Usman and Alhaji Chindo Bose and a Special Adviser to the State Government on Religious Matters, Rev. John Simon Jatutu.

The Muslim clerics were alleged to have conspired with Rev. Jatutu to divert part of the funds approved towards the celebration of the country’s Golden Jubilee.

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said: “The Taraba State government had in September 2010 approved N42 million for the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Muslim Council for purposes of the 50th Independence celebration.

“Both faiths shared the money equally with each getting N21million but the three accused persons cornered N10m from the Muslim Council share of the grant and declared only N11million to the council.

“However, members of the council later got wind of the actual amount approved for them, which prompted a petition to the EFCC.

“When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty to all charges.

“Their no guilty plea prompted the prosecution counsel, Al Qasim Jaafar to request the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial.

Jafaar opposed the bail application by defence counsel, Ukaegbu Onyi, on the grounds that the accused had jumped administrative bail granted them by the Commission.

“However ruling on the bail application, Justice Shuaibu took cognizance of the forthcoming judicial recess and granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N1.5 million each and a surety in like sum.

The EFCC also yesterday said it has arraigned a couple, Dan Fulani and his wife, Gambo Tanimu (a.k.a. Happiness) before Justice Musa Sale Shuaibu of the Federal High Court, Yola, and Adamawa State on a six-count charge of conspiracy, money laundering and obtaining by false pretences.

The anti-graft agency said the offence is contrary to Sections 1(a), 17(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2004 and Other Related Offences Act 2006.

A statement by the EFCC said “the couple who are chairman and Treasurer respectively of a Cooperative Society in Jalingo, Taraba State allegedly defrauded one Alhaji Idris Tukur, a businessman, of N11.3million under the guise of selling imported rice to him.

“When the charge was read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty. Their counsel, P.S. Agabus, immediately urged the court to admit his clients to bail. He told the court that the accused persons are well known in the community and would not jump bail. “But prosecution counsel, Al Qasim Ja’afar opposed the bail application.

“However, Justice Shu’aibu granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N1million each and a surety in like sum.

“The matter has been adjourned to October 24 for commencement of trial.”

Politics › AU Chooses Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (former Wife Of Jacob Zuma) As Leader. by Sunofgod(op): 10:28pm On Jul 15, 2012
The African Union has chosen South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as its leader, making her the first woman to hold the post.

Ms Dlamini-Zuma beat incumbent Jean Ping of Gabon after a closely fought contest for the chairmanship of the organisation.

In January, neither got the required two-thirds majority, leaving Mr Ping in office for another six months.

The dispute has overshadowed other issues, especially security and trade.

Voting has been broadly split along linguistic lines, with English-speaking countries tending to support Ms Dlamini-Zuma and French-speaking countries lining up behind Mr Ping.

Ms Dlamini-Zuma is the former wife of South African President Jacob Zuma and one of her country's longest-serving government ministers.

Analysts said many feel her candidacy had broken an unwritten tradition that the chairmanship should not be occupied by one of Africa's major nations.

Earlier this week, Mr Ping denied a South African media report speculating he was going to withdraw from the race.

His use of the AU's website and letterhead for his statement prompted the southern African regional bloc Sadc to accuse him of misusing AU resources for his re-election bid.

Ms Dlamini-Zuma's election came at a summit in Addis Ababa, the organisation's home city.

As in January, the official theme of the summit was boosting intra-African trade.

It is also due to focus on the continuing instability in Mali, mounting violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and tension between Sudan and South Sudan.

Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) and the Governor of Niger State, Doctor Muazu Aliyu has reacted to the quit notice issued to Fulani residents of Mahanga,Kakuruk,Maseh and Shong 2 in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local Governments of Plateau State, urging the Special Military Task Force (STF) to exercise caution.

The Special Military Task Force had on Saturday asked inhabitants of the affected areas to vacate their domain immediately with their property, citing military action in the troubled villages.

Governor Aliyu warned that the 48 hour ultimatum issued by the STF could lead to breakdown of law and order not only in Plateau State but in other parts of the country.

A statement by Governor Aliyu’s spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo said the forum is worried by complaints from a section of the region to the effect that the vacation order represents a declaration of war by the military against a segment of the nation’s citizens.

The statement added that although the forum is not opposed to any action that will put a stop to the senseless killing of innocent people in the Plateau, it warned that the region cannot afford the likely negative consequences of the order that the Fulani herdsmen should vacate the said villages without providing alternatives.

The forum further advised the STF to work more closely with Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State instead of issuing unilateral orders that could further worsen the already bad security situation in the state.

It said the current security challenge in Plateau State has provided the opportunity for all stakeholders to sit down and solve the Indigene-settler problem once and for all

Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), and Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, at the weekend said the devastating impact of climate change could be drastically mitigated in the state if all the residents are committed to planting a tree annually.

The leaders expressed the view at the 2012 tree planting campaign in Mushin, Lagos , noting that the present generation faces a grim future if no decisive measures are taken to stem the effects of climate change.

Fashola, who was accompanied by the Special Adviser on the Environment, Dr. Taofeek Folami and Chairman of the Odi Olowo Local Council Development Area, Mr. Adeyemi Ali, among others, stressed the need for every Lagos resident to play in creating safer environment.

He explained that the importance of planting trees in the environment could no longer be over-emphasised at the instance of flooding, rainstorms and ocean surge, urging all Lagos residents to join the government in its determination to build and create a cleaner and safer environment He said: “You can see extreme rainfall in the last 48 hours and not more than 50,000 people have been displaced in Japan. You can see the rain in Mississippi and in Newcastle, and there is still more to come.

“We can see now that the solutions we put in place last year has reduced the flood we experienced in some areas including Agege, Lekki and Arigbanla, Idi Araba, there is no flood there again despite the heavy rains.

I dont know where these people got the authority to play God.

The 'West' is sick (economically) - but developing nations are the ones to take the 'Medicine'?

They should start sterilizing themselves - that would lead to the world being a better place.
Health › Melinda Gates: Family Planning Means Sterilizing Women In Developing Nations by Sunofgod(op): 2:43pm On Jul 12, 2012
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) are hosting The London Family Planning Summit (LFPS) where they will purvey their depopulation and eugenics agenda in the name of women’s rights.

Both governmental and private sector representatives will be in attendance; where not only will lucrative deals for provision of contraception will be made, but the BMGF will secure donated funds to bring their brand of depopulation to third world nations.

The BMGF assert that by 2050 “the global population is expected to grow to over 9 billion people” and this is unacceptable to them . By applying pressure to social programs and resources, the BMGF want to use family planning as an investment for all national governments globally.

Delegates at the LFPS will team up with non-governmental organizations like The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA) wherein they have pledged to make sure policies and political leaders are properly swayed in the direction of support their campaign.

The Department for International Development (DID) claims that as women die from unwated preganacy, those victims are prime candidates for their depopulation agenda. By simply controlling their ability to be fertile, the lives of countless women will be saved. Andrew Mitchell, aide to the DID said: “It is a shocking fact that pregnancy can be a death sentence for many girls and women in the developing world. What is all the more devastating is that many of these pregnancies were unintended.”

Mitchell is working intimately with Melinda Gates as she makes family planning her “top priority”. Gates hopes that the LSFP and her work with the DID “will galvanize a global movement” to sterilize and enforce contraceptives onto the majority of the under-developed nations populations; thereby ensuring that conception cannot take place.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yRXT3hLoQXI

BMGF have already been part of the UN’s land grab efforts in Africa, and now have given donations in coerced acquisition of African dairy farms. An $8.5 million dollar grant was extended through governmental channels in support of the East Africa Dairy Development project (EADD).

The NGOs associated with the UN in usurping lands from African farmers is also involved in the clever imitative with the BMGF to takeover profits and infrastructure of small dairy farms.

These groups are Heifer International (HI), who received $8 million in funding from BMGF, is in partnership with TechnoServe, The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), World Agroforestry Research Institute and Africa Breeders Services.

In London, Gates has had her rhetoric prepared in response to the supposed controversy surrounding contraceptives.

Speaking with CNN, Gates gave her diatribe on how she justifies her position as part of the global Elite who are actively seeking to depopulate the planet by 90%; starting in the third world nations

Gates, who spends quite a bit of time with under-developed nations like Africa, says that the LSFP is “a partnership of national governments from developing and developed countries, foundations, the private sector and NGOs is launching a groundbreaking effort to make sure” that those in poorer nations do not have the expressed ability to procreate, but rather will be inundated with forced sterilization under the guise of family planning.

By supporting this effort, Gates believes she can prevent 40% of people who would otherwise have been born, there by justifying family planning as a scheme to make women healthier who have “families are more successful and their communities are more prosperous.”

Simply put: the BMGF has classified “unwanted” pregnancies and they are focusing on eventually eliminating this number to reduce the world’s population. Africa, a big focus for the BMGF is being targeted along with Muslim nations.

In Senegal, Gates explains the BMGF “are investing in a pilot project to ensure that health clinics are always stocked with the full range of modern contraceptives, including implants, injectables and IUDs” to make sure their depopulation agenda is secure. The more sterilized women in poorer nations, the faster the overall human population will decrease.

BMGF has partnered with drug corporations like Shanghai Dahua Pharmaceuticals in China to develop implantable fertility controls that will be used in over 20 developing countries to curb population growth.

Gates has created a propaganda cartoon where the campaign to sterilize millions of women with Depo-Preovera is celebrated. She also remarked at a TEDxChange conference that Depo-Provera is best because it enables women to receive a shot behind their husbands' backs. Gates says: “Unfortunately this year a billion couples will have sex with one another . . .” and Gates’ only contention is that sterilization by way of contraception would “give them the right to decide” whether or not to have a child.

In the propaganda cartoon, the depiction of brown and black women as disfigured potatoes having much more fun because they have fewer children is not only offensive, but telling of how these global Elite view the people they purport to be “saving”. By preventing births, the film says that 600,000 people would not be born. Contraception as a first step in the global Elites' plan to depopulation by appearing to help save lives of women could be quite effective.

The racial slurs in this “promotional video” are offensive to even supporters of the BMGF, who said that it is “condescending, inaccurate, and racist to imply that only dark-skinned people need our (white-skinned people’s) help,” and “loses all credibility the way it is.”

The future has no fathers, according to Gates. Only one child, only one woman.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhAhg-PdJ1Q&feature=player_embedded

The focus of BMGF on third world nations is clear. They are the most densely populated areas of the world. Their governments are able to take more advantage of their citizens than in industrialized countries. And they are less educated as to the real dangers posed by these NGOs, the BMGF and makeshift medical clinics where surgical procedures to force sterilize their countrymen and women.

Politics › New Igbo Group Vows To Avenge Killings In The North by Sunofgod(op): 10:02pm On Jul 11, 2012
A new Igbo group, the Conference of Igbo Youth Organizations, CIYO, has warned that Ndigbo will no longer watch in silence while their brothers and sisters are slaughtered like animals in the northern states in Nigeria.

The group vowed that henceforth, it will be tit for tat. Most of the victims of the ongoing massacre in the North are Christians mostly of the Igbo stock in eastern Nigeria.

Also, the Igbo youths in a statement endorsed by 10 youth leaders, including the National Coordinator, Igbo Youth Grand Alliance, Dr. Uchenna Uchehara, who read it after their emergency meeting in Owerri yesterday said: “Events of the past few months in Nigeria have become very disturbing to stakeholders, especially the Igbo nation that played a major role in the founding of Nigeria and in spite of the tragedies of the Biafran war, resolved to give total support to one united Nigeria.”

He lamented that the ugly experience of Ndigbo in Nigeria had been the persistent and unprovoked killings of Igbo citizens outside Igbo land.

Similarly, a pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionist Movement, BZM, has announced that it had commenced the process to launch the struggle for a state of Biafra with the international community, saying that the formal declaration of the new Biafra Republic is slated for 5 November, this year.

National President of BZM, Benjamin Onwuka said Biafra Republic could not be realised over the years because of the inability of Biafrans to get the support of world powers like the United States of America to back the project.

“As we approach the end of 13 years since the mobilization and struggle for Biafran independence began under the aegis of MASSOB and other groups, the people of Biafra have not made much effort in realising our dreams because the struggle has been internalised since 1999,” Onwuka said.

He expressed regrets that the international community did not know the aspirations of the Biafra people, saying “ the aspirations of Biafra people must therefore be made known to the international community because the forces preventing the dreams for our independence are vested in the United Kingdom.

‘’Biafra can only be achieved when we secure the support of the United States of America; the day USA comes to our side, that day we shall be free from Nigeria; the story of South Sudan where a bloody civil war was fought for over 24 years is a typical example.”
