Onyeoma3:

PhD comprehensive exam is a compulsory exam for PhD students 2 years into their programs. One has to prepare very well for it cos of you fail to pass, you won't be able to proceed to complete your program.

You're typically tested in all areas of the course you're studying, and you're questioned till your breaking point (more like drilling) but not to fail you. It's more intense than PhD thesis defense.

Finally, the good news is that if you prepare well, you must pass it.

Cc: supermum

Thanks @ Onyeoma3. Sounds like Candidacy exams to me- has an oral and written part, done within 24 months of the start of the PhD program etc

Hello supermum, am new to thia forum, I have been a silent observer, I have read all the rrends and info about traveling to Canada.
I recently got a mail from CIC to come for my medicals and I have done that, which I passed...they sent me a mail after 2 days to tell me I passed . Please I would like to know how long it takes for them to request for passport after the medicals have been passed. Thanks in advance for your time

Experiences differ with CIC and timelines. Just keep your hopes up. You will get your passport request in no time.

Hi Supermum, I will like to know when the school says PhD comprehensive exam what do they actually mean?
Thanks

I'm not sure what that means to a PhD but it is relevant to a master's ( came across it in the Master's degree guideline). You might want to send an email to your intended school to clarify.
What I am aware of is Candidacy Examination for PhD students.

Yeah, we for Winnipeg suppose jam oh. I'm sure you enjoyed your journey. May you reap the good fruits of maple land.

Also, @IyaEjima is also in Winnipeg. She has really been of great help since I got here.

Hello fellow Winnipeggers, I'm sorry I haven't been able to update you on my travel experience.

Flight was long and tiring. Didn't get any of our 6 boxes (air France wahala). POE was however smooth and easy.

Still trying to settle in. We should definitely hook up.

Thanks BeulahHephziba for your response. I am the applicant with 2m and my sponsor has 8m. My dad anual income is 11m. But as at today, he has abt 50k balance in his account, so he want to request for a letter from head office stating his anual income is 11m and he can assist I and my spouse incase of any immagency. but can I include my dad statement of account with #50k balance ? Or is the letter from head office okay?

Waiting for response pls..

Hello,
If you intend to apply at the same time as your wife, then I would suggest you beef up your account or that of your wife. If you are yet to pay your fees, then you need to consider that your fees and living expenses will be taken off the 10m naira available to you.
It is okay to have your father as a sponsor/co-sponsor even as a married man. However, he can state in his letter to the embassy that he has so and so amount of money available to him, he has so and so number of dependants and he is happy to support you and your wife should you need any financial assistance (in this case you have most of the funds in your account and he is just stating that he can support you I there is any shortfall).

@Team12 and Supermum. I join eridemilade to officially beg you madams to guide us on how to go about SOWP. I remember asking to be directed here once buh I got no reply. I guess u guys didn't read my post then sha. Is it online or is it by paper route. The last time I checked I didn't see it online. Thanks for your help already.

@ justicia and Eridemilade, I applied paper route. Don't know much about the online route but I don't think the documents you need should be any different.
In my case, applied alongside my hubby. I listed my docs earlier.
If there's any specific question you would like me to answer, please ask as I will be happy to help out

Okay...make I gist the house my little experience.

Easily got my study permit at Montreal. The officer just requested for my letter of introduction and on seeing my admission letter that it's from UofM, he seemed impressed from his comment and quickly went ahead with preparing it. My epistle ends here for now. So, for people whose visas were stamped in London not Accra, they don't have a problem.

It is well.

Hello Sholay, thanks for the feedback. Glad you landed Winnipeg safely.
I would be joining you @ U of M soon and I hope my journey is drama free. Although sometimes drama is good as it lands you a business class seat.

I thought the same until minnietope applied for the spousal open work permit with her hubby and got it.

My husband applied for SOWP not EE.

favour0011:
I don't get it. Are you talking about spousal work permit (sowp) or express entry (ee). One of the conditions for sowp is that the applicants spouse is based in Canada either as a citizen, pr or student . I stand to be corrected tho. Please enlighten us.

@ hayqinsbfx, I'm sorry about your delay. You've been very helpful on this thread and I trust that you'll get your heart's desire very soon.

@ bimbofela, we applied for a SOWP not a visiting visa. I also thought I had to be a registered student before we could apply for the SOWP but minnietope's testimony encouraged us to apply

BluntlyMe:

Thanks tnuola. The form ish nko? Am I good to go

Hi @bluntlyme. I think you should print the form first before coming to the conclusion that it is blank. I had the same experience when I tried to view my IME number on the form (on my iPad).
I guess the form comes in a protected view of some sort.

supermum,
@supermom,
Biko use his /her Us passport while completing your application and family info form cos these guys have a way of finding out their infos. You do not need to pay application fee for a US born. A US citizen can enter canada, UK with their passport, no visa required, You only pay for yours . Just package your application well and be prayerful( Purpose of visit) cos those guys may feel you wanna go drop in their country again. All the best Regards

thanks Pampem

I don't know what you mean by "seep rate form", but you will pay the application fee for visitor's visa and also do medicals for him/her

Abeg forgive my typos o. For some reason, I have been having quite a number of them.
Thanks

Hi @Supermum,

You are required to fill separate application for your child(ren), pay for your child's application and medical fees.
@Team12 suggested the IOM in Ikeja for children.
Their rates are cheaper than other IOM and I think she said they are children friendly.
All the best with ur application.

Cheers
Thanks sis. This was helpful

Hello house,

For a baby who has dual citizenship (Nigerian and American) whose parents are Nigerian and intend to study in Canada, what passport is most advisable to use for visa application.
Does it matter if baby uses her US pp while parents use their Nig pp. some pole have advised against this.
Gurus in the house, what do u advice
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Supermum: 8:21pm On Jun 30, 2015
Hello House,

Team12 and other members who applied with their babies did you have to fill a seep rate form for their visa application? Did you also have to pay for the application and medical fees for them.
Baby is less than a year old.

Thanks

Yea,you should. You are on d AA operated leg from Heathrow to Dallas. I already paid for my ticket before I realized intown won't make provision for check in later than 7pm.

Yes I am. Chose that because it was quicker but I'd have to change terminals unlike if I had booked a BA second leg.
