Politics / Opinion: Buhari Has Been Technically Defeated by SuperPanther: 10:52am On Aug 13, 2016 |
Editor’s note: President Muhammadu Buhari was elected on the mantle of change and many Nigerians expected a lot of developmental decisions from him. In this opinion by Emmanuel Uchenna Ugwu, he argues that Buhari has already started on a bad note and therefore is likely going to fail. To succeed or to fail? It may seem too early to write off the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari. He is in the second year of his four year tenure. That amounts to a reasonable mathematical chance to change the narrative and finish well. But if the law of inertia counts for anything, the remainder of Buhari’s time will prove to be the slow motion fulfillment of an ineluctable tragedy. Granted, there is a context to the pervasive misery in Nigeria today. Buhari inherited a scorched earth. He was bequeathed a landscape of ruins. He was bound to face the challenge of building with rubble. Jonathan had the good fortune of seeing high crude price for the greater part of his 6 years-long tenure. He grossed a steady windfall of petrodollars. But he sanctioned the merciless looting of state funds. As a candidate, Buhari appeared to recognize that revamping the economy had to be a priority. He made it a go-to talking point. He hammered on it at the hustings, always checking it off with the promise to fight corruption and arrest insecurity. But in his earliest days in office, the economy was the last thing on his mind. The leisure of globe trotting was first. And he started to work his planes as soon as possible. When Nigerians, alarmed that the intoxication of power may have made Buhari frivolous, asked him to sit down and work, he plagiarized Obasanjo: My world tour is a necessary charm offensive. Nigeria is a pariah state. I am traveling to reconcile Nigeria with the world! While he lived in the air, Buhari left Nigeria without direction and without a cabinet. He took six months purporting to look for the beautiful ones. Even in a fiction, that’s too long a period to run an amorphous government after a disruptive election that saw an opposition candidate win. Naturally, that eternity of vacuum was filled with speculations and rumors. The market place was paralyzed. Investors and businessmen got edgy, confused and afraid. Because they were made to hedge their bets and wait forever for the new administration enunciate its economic policy, some took their capital elsewhere. The financial system reacted. And an epidemic of job losses began. The danger of doggedness Buhari had been advised to take drastic measures in his first days in office. Former British PM Tony Blair -whose autobiography, A Journey: My Political Life, detailed his action-packed first 100 days in office -suggested that Buhari’s first 100 days would define the shape of the rest of his tenure. Blair counseled Buhari to leverage his massive goodwill and abolish fuel subsidy and take hard decisions to spur economic recovery. Buhari demurred. He said the argument for the removal of fuel subsidy didn’t sound rational. He would not sanction a decision that would the increase inflation and suffering. When he eventually came around to realize the foolishness of his obstinacy, he had already unleashed the wilder version of the outcome he was trying to avoid so he could retain his popularity. Same thing he did with the naira. Every voice of reason counseled that it would be prudent to devalue urgently. The artificial value we were purporting to maintain at the expense of our very lean foreign reserve was incongruous with reality. Buhari refused to grant approval. He cited again the welfare of the masses. He wouldn’t bear to see Nigerians suffer more. He would later agree to the idea of ‘floating of the naira.’ But before then, market forces had so weakened the naira that his change of mind was a belated adaptation to a fait accompli. His stubbornness and delay did no good other than instigate instability and increase the inflation and suffering beyond what would have obtained if the devaluation had been done promptly. Until last week, Buhari was adamant that he would not welcome the views of the private sector on the state of the economy. He implied that private sector players were basically selfish. Their opinions would be tainted by avarice. They can’t put profit above patriotism. The consequence of having a prideful economic ignoramus that would not seek or entertain wise counsel until he sees the worst possible eventuality come in view is that the Nigerian economy has now gone far too bad than is easy to quickly reverse. Of course, this means that the incredible act of surviving as a Nigerian has become a lot harder. In ‘normal’ times, Nigerian life is a story of deprivation. Buhari has made it more so. When will Buhari realise he has not done anything? The worrisome thing is that Buhari has yet to get the memo. He lives in a bubble. And he is a captive of sycophants that are serenading him with flattery. For instance, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, recently said Buhari should not be taken to task about the starvation of hundreds of thousands of Nigerian children in IDP camps. Shehu says Boko Haram created the situation. So why should Buhari be the subject of criticism instead of Shekau? Before this, Buhari’s other spokesman, Femi Adesina, had declaimed in a PUNCH interview that Nigerians were not suffering. He said Nigerians weren’t experiencing the mildest inconvenience. Nigerians owe his principal a lot thanks for their good life! Taken together, the words of these spokespersons represent a sample of the despicable diet of falsehoods politicians and aides in Buhari’s orbit feed him. And the words also reflect Buhari’s own mindset. Buhari is averse to taking responsibility for the Nigerian economy. He habitually laments the Jonathan days looting and calls it the sole cause of the present ‘technical’ recession. On the days he wants to inspire hope, he mouths the tired promise that he would ‘diversify’ the economy! Buhari has been technically defeated Buhari has effectively resigned. He is unwilling and unable to rouse himself to the business of accomplishing something timeless and memorable. He is secure in a numbing complacency, a feeling of arrival that compels him to relax like a minimally interested observer in his own presidency. He has squandered his first year. In few months time, he will be two years in office and midway into his term. That halftime will be the real expiration date of his tenure. Beyond that moment, the polity devolves into a dirty fight to replace him. There is no sign that Buhari aspires to maximize the remaining part of his time. He has no sense of urgency. The most he is doing is actively wishing that crude price rises and yields him abundance. He had not gamed out options to pursue in case of petrodollars drought. And he is not disposed to start now. He has the preposterous notion that Nigerians will forgive him for the broken economy because he achieved the technical defeat of Boko Haram and permitted the EFCC to recover some chicken change from certain corrupt politicians on the other side of the political divide. Not all. People in developing countries tend to judge a leader in one way. The extent to which he helped make the meeting of their basic needs easier. Going by that metric and the escalation of human suffering across Nigeria in the past one year, Buhari’s administration is a disaster! Buhari walked into the highest office in the land without a plan. He didn’t do any homework. He had no sketch of policies as you would expect of a four time presidential candidate; a serious-minded former head of state that had three decades to study his country as a private citizen. He presumed that all things would align for good. The business of governance will take care of itself. All he needed was to win the election and take the oath of office. Buhari thought so lowly of the position of president of Nigeria and so highly of himself that he rated himself too qualified to ready himself for it! Buhari believes that luck is destiny. He counts himself unlucky to be the leader of Nigeria at this time. Every day, he laments the oil curse. He solicits pity for having the misfortune of coming to power now. This is a coded confession of defeat; an acknowledgement that he has no faith in his ability to pivot his administration to positive denouement. Buhari’s fatalism has convinced him of his own victimhood. He is persuaded that it is beyond his power to cause a meaningful shift. And this is why the hardship in the land is likely to morph into the worst case scenario. FFK is so on point. We all know that the only reason why the northerners are always quick to shout "One Naijeriya" is because of crude oil in the South. I dare say that if the oil had been in the north all this while as it has been in the south, the north would have asked for Arewanistan Republic and asked the infidel south to get lost. I pray they find more than enough oil in their region to be honest. Even the Civil war was fought because of crude oil as confirmed by Benjamin Adekunle before he died and regretted being used to fight just to keep crude oil for the hausa/fulani to drink. There's so much injustice in this country. 188 Likes 12 Shares

Politics / Solomon Asemota Accuses Buhari Of Appointing Islamist Jihadists by SuperPanther: 1:21pm On Aug 11, 2016 |
Editor’s note: Solomon Asemota, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), on behalf of some Christian groups in the country has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of discriminatory appointments against non-Muslims in Nigeria. The author claims that Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Ethnic nationalities, immigrants to Nigeria are pushing the nation to an implosion. The brazen and audacious imposition of Islamist Jihadists into key positions in the country is not an expression of religious piety but a deliberate manipulation of religion for cultural and political domination by three ethnic groups. This agenda commenced in 1975 after the overthrow of General Gowon. The Islamist Jihadists are a violent and domineering strain of Islam rejected by mainstream Muslims. We are reminded that after the Arab Spring, Tunisia and Egypt elected Islamists of the Muslim brotherhood into power. One year later, the two Arab Islamic Nations staged another revolution and sacked them. If Arab nations could not tolerate Islamist Jihadists’ domination, we wonder how Nigeria, a multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-lingual, and multi-ethnic nation would cope with the dire consequences of flooding government with Islamist Jihadists. It is pertinent to explain that there is a difference between Islam and Islamism. While Islam is a religion, Islamism is but a political ideology that holds that Islam is not only a religion but a political system that must dominate wherever Islam is practiced in the world. Islamism is the ideology driving the Taliban, Al Shabab, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen and others. Islamism operates through religious terrorists and stealthily through “Civilization Jihad” (deceit) both seek to undermine democratic societies and convert them forcefully to Sharia states. All attempts to draw the attention of the Buhari administration through previous press releases and press conferences have, mischievously, been interpreted as politics. We are also dismayed that the Christian Coalition Group as well as other arms of Christians in Nigeria that have expressed concern about evolving issues in the nation have been described as members of a political party (the PDP). This is a very disappointing response to very serious national issues. As Nigerians, we have the right to comment on issues that are of great importance to the nation especially when our elected representatives chose to be silent. While we were worried about the lopsided appointments in the security services, we also noticed, a few days ago, that the education sector has been privatized in the hands of only the Fulanis and Islamist Jihadists. Virtually all strategic federal educational offices/appointments, have gone to persons with Islamist Jihadists tendencies as heads in the universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, University Admissions Board (JAMB), educational funding and policy departments, etc. Our concern is not about the job and appointments but the fundamental Islamist Jihadists agenda that is playing out in Nigeria. What the list of students’ admission will look like in the nearest future in our nation with an Islamist Jihadist in charge of JAMB, we are constrained to ponder. Violation of principle of federal character in federal appointments Section 171 sub-Section 5 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) stipulates that the President in exercising his powers of appointment under this section shall have regard to the Federal Character of Nigeria and the need to promote National unity. A critical look at the list of appointments by this administration shows utter disregard for issues that promote National unity and a gross violation of the Constitution. We wonder how Mr. President can relate the impunity of his administration to his mantra; fight against corruption. By flagrantly violating Sections 171(5) and 10 of the Constitution, the President has presented himself as corrupt. Below are some of the very important appointments made by “Federal Islamist Jihadist’s imperial Government” to confirm our apprehension: Chief Executives of Educational institutions: 1. Head of Universities: NUC Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Hausa/Fulani Muslim 2. Head of Polytechnics: Hausa/Fulani Muslim 3. Head of Colleges of Education: Prof. Bappah Aliyu Hausa/Fulani Muslim 4. Family / America's Hypocrisy-Gay & Incest(american Mom, Son In Love Charged With Incest) by SuperPanther: 11:09am On Aug 11, 2016 |
Why this hypocrisy and double standard by the west? America has allowed gay rights where a man can marry another man on the gorunds of fundamental human rights but harassing people that choose incest. If gays are allowed to have their rights then why not also allow people that want incest also have their fundamental human rights? — 11th August 2016 Say nothing will tear them apart An American mother and son whose forbidden love affair could land them each a lengthy jail sentence have declared they are ‘madly in love’ and nothing will tear them apart. Monica Mares, 36, and her son Caleb Peterson, 19, face up to 18 months in prison if found guilty of incest at a trial later this year in New Mexico, United States. But police soon found out about the clandestine affair during a call over a row between the family and some neighbors. The couple was charged with incest, a fourth-degree felony in New Mexico. They were arraigned and appeared jointly in court in April but were held in custody for breaching their no-contact order. They were released on $5,000 bond and now face a trial by jury in September. But the mother and son couple have vowed to fight for their right to have a sexual relationship and are appealing to the public to donate to their legal fund, London Daily Mail Online reported. Currently Mares is not allowed to see any of her children or have any contact at all with Peterson. Yet she maintains that is has all been worth it. “It is every bit worth it,’ she said. ‘If they lock me up for love then they lock me up. There is no way anybody could pull us apart, and I really do love him. “It hurts he is far away. It hurts really bad. I wish I could see him, talk to him, but I can’t risk it.’ The Online report quoted the couple as saying they are willing to risk everything to be together and have decided to go public with their affair in a bid to raise awareness of Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) relationships. GSA is defined as sexual attraction between close relatives, such as siblings or half-siblings, a parent and offspring, or first and second cousins, who first meet as adults. Mares said: “He is the love of my life and I don’t want to lose him. My kids love him, my whole family does. Nothing can come between us not courts, or jail, nothing. “I have to be with him. When I get out of prison I will move out of Clovis to a state that allows us to be together.’ Incest is a crime in all 50 states of U.S., but the specifics of the laws and punishment vary greatly from state to state. Mother-of-nine Mares said she would even give up the right to see her other children if she was asked to choose between them and her lover. The couple who currently live separately in Clovis, New Mexico and are banned from having any contact with each other by the courts, first embarked on their love affair towards the end of last year. Mares was just 16 when she gave birth to Peterson whose pre-adoption name was Carlos and he was adopted as a baby. The 36-year-old, who didn’t raise Peterson, saw him for the first time in 18 years last Christmas when she picked him up at his adoptive father’s house in Texas and brought him to her home after the pair got in touch over Facebook. The couple soon developed romantic feelings for each other and their relationship became sexual a few weeks later. “The first time I met my son in person I was so happy and excited I gave him a big hug,’ Mares said.’I went to go pick him up at his dad’s house in Texas. “He gave me a call and asked me to pick him up, I got butterflies in my stomach. I met him outside and I knew it was him when he came towards me. He was crying and he gave me a hug. It was almost love at first sight but first it was mother love. He gave me a mother hug. “He came home in the truck and came to live with me and we were both happy as mother and son.” Mares said that at first nothing happened but she then started getting these ‘crazy’ feelings. She said it felt different because she didn’t raise him as her child yet after all these years he came back to her. “It felt like I met somebody new in my life and I fell in love with him,” she explained. She continued: “At first I told him, “I’m sorry I don’t know how you are going to react to this. I’m your mom and you’re my son, but I’m falling in love with you”. “And he said: “You know what I am too. I was scared to let you know”. He was falling in love with his mom and I was falling in love with my son.” We talked about it and we took off to the park. I said, “Would you ever date your mom?” And he said: “would you ever date your son?” And I said, “Honest truth yes I would”.’ Mares said Peterson is the best thing that has happened to her in the past 19 years and wants to be with him for the rest of her life. She understands that she risks losing all her children and going to state prison but they both want to fight it. “Caleb is willing to go through the same thing. Whatever it takes to be together,” she said. At first the couple lived happily together in Mares’ mobile home with her two youngest children Uriah and Joseph, keeping their relationship a secret from the world. Mares’ youngest son even began calling Peterson ‘dad’. Peterson said he started falling love with his mom about a week after meeting her but claims as he grew up with an adopted parents he never really saw Mares as his mother. “I never had anyone cook me meals or give me anything,’ he said. “I never got anything my entire life and she went out of her way to make me happy and after about a week or so I started having feelings for her and I guess I fell in love. “It went beyond a mother-son relationship I never really viewed her as my mom. In certain aspects I do but mostly I don’t. I never thought I was crazy for having these feelings because I didn’t see her as my mom, it was more like going to a club and meeting a random person. It didn’t feel wrong, it felt normal.” Peterson claims it was him who made the first move not his mom. He recalls: ‘We were hanging out just talking and I looked at her and she looked at me and I kissed her. “It was a real kiss it had feelings behind it, there was a spark that ever since then it just stayed. “Honestly I never thought we would get into trouble for our relationship. We were both consenting adults – when it comes down to it. She’s adult I’m adult I can make my own decisions. I never thought it would blow up into something like this.’ Mares also said that it didn’t feel strange or wrong when the couple began their sexual relationship but admits that it probably wouldn’t have happened if she had raised Peterson. “The first time we were physical ended up holding hands and then we ended up kissing and the kissing led to other things,” she said. “I felt comfortable with him and we fell even more deeply in love. “If he had been with me all his life I don’t think anything would have happened between us.’ As well as legal trouble, the couple has met opposition from friends, neighbors, family members and the wider community. Mares has been attacked outside her home and subjected to death threats. She said: ‘I’ve been having a lot of trouble from the people in Clovis. They call me incest. Mares says other moms she knows don’t understand what she’s going through but says her kids have said they will love her no matter what. But with a torn look on her face, she added: “But if I had to choose between my son and all my other kids I’d chose him.” Peterson added: “My dad walked out on me because of it. “There’s a lot of negative comments I read on Facebook and things, people say it’s disgusting, it’s gross, she’s your mom but it doesn’t hurt me or affect me at all. If they were in my situation or if they were to find out that somebody they loved was actually related to them then they’d be saying the exact opposite.” http://sunnewsonline.com/american-mom-son-in-love-charged-with-incest-remain-defiant/ Lalasticlala 1 Like 1 Share

MILITANTS DEMAND RELEASE OF NNAMDI KANU AFTER HIJACKING SHIP Militants claiming to support the Biafran cause have hijacked a merchant ship off the Nigerian coast. They are demanding the release of pro-Biafran leader Nnamdi Kanu as a ransom for the safe return of the ship and its crew. The ship was allegedly hijacked on Friday in the Bakassi Peninsula, a disputed region between Nigeria and Cameroon off the southeastern coast of Nigeria, according to domestic media outlet NewsDay reported on Sunday. A spokesman for the militants, named only as General Ben, said on Saturday in Nigeria’s southern oil hub of Port Harcourt that a 31-day ultimatum had been issued to the Nigerian government within which Kanu—who was arrested in October 2015 and is awaiting trial on charges of treason—should be released. The spokesman threatened to blow up the ship with the crew onboard if the government failed to comply. A group of ex-Niger Delta militants—who were allegedly involved in the destruction of oil pipelines in Nigeria’s oil-producing heartland during an insurgency in the mid-2000s—reportedly issued the deadline earlier in January, though it is not clear if the same group is responsible for the hijacking. Bridgadier General Rabe Abubakar, the Nigerian military’s director of defense information, tells Newsweek that the incident has taken place and that the Nigerian authorities are pursuing the hijackers, but was unable to provide further information about the ship or the condition of the crew. “This is an act of criminality, an act of sabotage,” says Abubakar. When asked whether the militants were demanding Kanu’s release, Abubakar tells Newsweek: “We don’t care about personality. What we care about is the nation, the safety of our ex-patriates, the safety of our citizens and the safety of everybody who is [in Nigeria] on legitimate contentions or business.” Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a secessionist movement that advocates the creation of an independent state of Biafra in southeastern Nigeria. Biafra existed as a republic separate from Nigeria between 1967 and 1970. Its creation by Nigerian military officer Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu sparked a three-year civil war in which more than 1 million people were killed. http://europe.newsweek.com/nigerian-militants-demand-release-nnamdi-kanu-after-hijacking-ship-421735 7 Likes |

fulanmafia: Whether you like it or not Nigeria is so dependent on crude oil. We need every single dollar we can get from the sales of crude oil due to the downturn in the economy. Things would have been much better without all these destruction of oil facilities which has also affected power forcing SMEs to close down and Nigerians are lamenting. Whether you accept it or not, the SE & SS are two sides of the same coin, you cannot fight one side without dragging the other side in. blueto: Thank you my brother. Just before the elections the APC made sure that everything was grounded to paint GEJ in bad light. They created the fuel scarcity then and also made sure that power supply was non existent. If only they knew that things would turn out this way for them. 17 Likes |
