In any case, for the scenario you mentioned that i highlighted, the tax on such deals if any will be paid to the Feds not the state government. You would have to prove otherwise to convince me. When paid to FG, it will be counted for Lagos state and that is why Lagos always have the highest VAT allocation. |

EMANY01: I said half mind you.
I READILY agree that its not only oil (before some tribal bigot jump on my case) but that oil business is tied to a lot of businesses and opportunities (too numerous to mention) that were drawn to Lagos , by virtue of the oil HQ's .
IT and financial services anchored in Lagos to serve and profit from the Oil players their branching out to serve other aspects of the economy was incidental. Before the telco revolution, IT firms like GS Telecom, and indeed Computer warehouse made their numbers from the oil cos and NNPC and then the banks and related institutions that proliferated to service the oil companies financially.
New companies and firms sprang up to provide services to (if not the Oil cos or the Telcos or the Banks directly then) then their people, personnel. So there goes the rise and proliferation of Real Estate services,Hotels, Electrical/mechanical/Civil contracting firms and so on and so on. Its kind of like Facebook's graph relationship algorithm model.Someday i will expend energy and time to document the branching tree relationship.
There are other factors too, most readily identified is(are) the port(s?) in lagos. The same relationships applies here. While i have always known this because i helped a friend of mine make connections to people within the National Bureau of Statistics when she was working on a project to use data analysis to explain the growth of business and investment opportunities in Nigeria ,specifically lagos for her dissertation, the reality of the numbers was brought home to me between this year and last when i had to make a lot of road trips home (Delta).
The sheer numbers of trucks carrying CLEAR AND IDENTIFIABLE OIL INDUSTRY HEAVY EQUIPMENT and other manufacturing industry heavy equipment(some of which were headed for the South East) all the way from Lagos (port(s) to the Niger Delta was mind numbing. Most especially when you consider that these items could have been brought through any of the ports/related facilities on the Eastern side of the country cutting transshipment and logistics costs.
I don't see why till tomorrow afternoon, pipes(for pipelines), derricks and the likes would be shipped to Lagos, then trucked all the way to the eastern side of the country where they are actually required.
I don't have to draw the full picture for you , if you are as intelligent as i believe(know) you are you can "see" the branching relationships that gives Lagos its 200+ billion naira internal revenue and what the oil companies relocating as well as the soon-coming Ibom port can do for the IGR of the NG/SE states. The 3 biggest Financial Centres of the world, do not have oil revenue, and they command a substantial amount of financing of the oil sectors in the world. London, New York and Hong Kong. The same is with Lagos. If you relocate the HQ of oil majors to Timbuktu or Torah Borah mountain, Lagos will still always be financing them and the taxes on such deals, will still be paid in Lagos. There are functional ports in Warri, Onne and Calabar. Why are the importers from SE and SS not making use of them. The truth is importers are at the mercy of the freighters and the freighters will tell you the port they are going to and the ones they won't go to. Ask importers, they will confirm this. Usage of those ports can only be possible if SE businessmen can enter into agreement with major freighters to be plying those ports. Apart from that, it's a very long thing. |

AfricanGod2: Chai, Olodo rapata. Imo generates the least IGR in the entire South East, if you want to compare Imo with any state compare it with Ekiti.
BTW, until the trooping extends beyond Nigeria it is not outside any Nigerian's region, so note that until you accomplish this your dawn initiative or Oduduwa abi Oguguru republic or whatever, the reality on ground is that some states of MY country, namely Lagos, Rivers, Delta, and Enugu are striving hard to become self reliant and are always open for me to visit, work in, live in, play in or do whatever the Bleep I want to do in . So basically I can make all the noise I want and troop wherever I want when it suits me best whilst not minding naive Nigerians like you who think that the benefits of development in any part of Nigeria is only restricted to ethnic groups in that part of Nigeria. Olodo times 1000. How old is Imo State in comparison with Ekiti. Compare Editing and Ebonyi. |
Politics › Chad Bans Muslim Face Veil by superstar1(op): 11:08am On Jun 18, 2015 |
Chad has banned people from wearing the full-face veil, following two suicide bomb attacks on Monday. Chad's government accused Nigerian militant Islamist group Boko Haram of the bombings which killed more than 20 people. The prime minister said the veil was used as a "camouflage" by militants and said the security forces will burn all full-face veils sold in markets. Chad is to host a new regional force set up to tackle Boko Haram. The militant group has not commented on the attack but has previously threatened to attack Chad, after its forces started to help Nigeria. At a meeting with religious leaders, Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi Deubet said the ban applied everywhere, not only public places. He added that any clothing that covers everything but the eyes was a camouflage. The attackers were on motorcycles when they blew themselves up outside two police buildings in the capital, N'Djamena.
A cleanup operation has been going on at the scene of the attacks Borno state, at the heart of the insurgency, is on the Nigerian border with Chad and Chadian forces have played a key role in helping Nigeria battle the jihadist group. The US announced on Tuesday that it will give $5m (£3.2m) towards a multi-national task force headquarters in Chad.
The BBC World Service's Africa editor Richard Hamilton says Boko Haram militants have increasingly been using female suicide bombers in Nigeria, as they are more likely to smuggle bombs into public places without detection. The majority of the population in Chad is Muslim and the burka is worn mainly for religious reasons, but also helps protect women from the hot, dusty climate of the Sahara. The full-face Islamic veil was also banned in May in public places in Congo-Brazzaville, to "counter terrorism". Although there has never been an Islamist attack in the country and less than 5% of the population of Congo-Brazzaville is Muslim, thousands of mostly Muslim people had fled the neighbouring Central African Republic and had taken shelter in mosques. |

InyinyaAgbaOku: We are yet to see the recent results of the rest of our states and you are already making a regional analysis . Ekiti, anambra, abia, ondo, ebonyi stats are not there, so why are you making comparisons? in old stats, Enugu didn't rate high but with the right leadership, it's topping the states that used to surpass it.
About Forbes list, where you not the one who FIRST said yorubas don't depend on oil? In the same list, igbos in the first 10 are not oil dependent
In fact in the top 20, ifeanyi uba is the only Igbo with oil stuff, all the yorubas are. So, who is oil dependent? Lesson: Dont start what you can't finish If you decide not to play in the oil sector, by preferring trading in goods from China, who bloody gives a hoot. Oil sector is for the big boys and not a no-brainer trading kind of biz. The bottom line is 4 out of the top 10 are from the land of oduduwa. Deal with it and get over it. |

zendy: Your penchant for quoting nonsense is Legendary. Western Nigeria starts from Asaba? Because someone told you that Asaba is in the south-South? Asaba is the capital of the Delta-Igboland and the indegines of Asaba are 100% unadulterated Igbos. Even the Obi of Asaba will tell you this. There is not one Asaba man or woman I have met who denies their Igbo identity, they wear it with pride. Very soon, some people will say that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Ogwshi-Uku is not Igbo because she has been carved into the SS. Will you just keep your mouth shut and read up on the regions of this country. If you claim Eastern Nigeria, what stops the North from claiming the old Northern Region and the SW claiming the old Western Region. Asaba was under the old Western Region and it will go back to the old western region. Whether they are Igbos or Igbira is none of our business. All we want is the old order re-established. Igbos want Eastern Region, we want western region of old and Northerners want their northern region of old too. That is what we all want. |
