Politics / Appeal Court Justices Adjourn All Cases In Honour Of Colleague by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 10:03pm On Sep 28, 2015
Justices of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on
Monday adjourned all cases slated for hearing to mourn
two of their colleagues who died in the stampede at
Mina, Saudi Arabia, during this year’s Hajj.
Two justices of Appeal Court, Justice Abubakar Jega of
the Abuja division and Justice Musa Alkali of the Ilorin
division, were among the those who lost their lives last
week Thursday in Saudia Arabia during the stampede.
At the resumed sitting of the Lagos Division on Monday,
Justice Shagbaor Ikyegh called for a minute of silence in
honour of the departed justices.
He later told lawyers who had appeared in court that
their cases would not be able to go on and urged them
to meet with the court’s registrars to fix new dates.
Justice Jega, who until his death was the presiding
justice at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, was
at the Lagos Division on August 26, 2015, where read
the lead judgment upholding the election of Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode as the Governor of Lagos State.
Until the deaths of Justices Jega and Akali, the Appeal
Court had a total of 90 justices across the country,
following the elevation of 25 judges in 2014 by former
President Goodluck Jonathan.

Politics / Buratai Organises Sallah Party For Injured Soldiers by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 6:04pm On Sep 25, 2015
In a bid to motivate soldiers and give them a sense of belonging, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Friday organised a Sallah “get-together” for wounded soldiers in Yola.

Speaking at the ceremony, Buratai said the gesture was to motivate the gallant soldiers who were fighting insurgency.

Represented by Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade, Yola, Col. Aba Popoola, the army chief said the gesture was also an expression of love to the wounded soldiers and their families, especially during this festive period.

“This is not the first of its kind; if you can recall, the Chief of Army staff had organised a similar event in Damaturu for the gallant soldiers,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction that the wounded soldiers were responding positively to treatment.

According to him, the soldiers were from the 23 Armoured Brigade, Yola, and 28 Task Force Brigade in Mubi and some from Gwoza in Borno State.

Responding on behalf of the soldiers, Cpl. Jonathan Okiki thanked the chief of army staff for identifying with them and their families.

” We assure you sir, that as soon as we leave the hospital, we will be eager to go back to the battle field to fight Boko Haram,” Okiki said.

Politics / LASRRA: Lagos Residents To Collect Permanent Residency Card From Their LGA/LCDAS by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 10:52am On Sep 21, 2015

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has said that registered residents can now collect their permanent residency cards from the Local Government or Council Development Areas where they live.

According to a statement issued by Agency, there is a need to decentralise the collection of permanent residency cards for residents who had earlier participated in the on-going residents registration exercise.

While noting that many residents from the various Local Government and Council Development Areas in the State had registered at their different locations, it emphasized that it became expedient to distribute the cards to them at their different LGAs/LCDAs so as to ease the collection process.

The statement stressed that as part of strategy put in place to ensure a hitch free collection and distribution process by the Agency, every resident will receive a short message (SMS) from LASRRA as soon as their cards are ready for collection.

To this end, the Agency charged residents whose registration telephone contact details have changed to urgently notify LASRRA through the help desk lines: 01-4483440 and 01-4483450.

The Agency, however, disclosed that it is only the Permanent Registration Cards of Civil/Public Servants that can now be collected at the LASRRA Headquarters at 4, Registration Close, Off Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Politics / Stop Calling President Buhari ‘baba Go Slow’ – Governor Dickson Warns by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 9:29am On Aug 19, 2015
Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has
frowned at those calling President Muhammadu
Buhari “Baba go slow.”
He said such a disreputable title belittles the office
and persons of the President in the eyes of the
international community.
Speaking during a news conference at the Eko
Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on
Tuesday, Dickson said that calling the President
derogatory names was bad politicking.
He also flayed those who referred to former
President Goodluck Jonathan as “clueless,” saying
it was wrong to demean the occupier of the highest
office in the land.
The governor, whose tenure expires on February
28, 2016, has yet to formally declare his intention
to seek re-election in the December 5, 2015
governorship election coming up in the state.
He said, “What are you saying when you call
President Buhari ‘Baba go slow?’ In what light are
you putting the President before the international
community? When you refer to someone as
‘clueless’, what do you mean?”
“We should pray for our leaders. We should
support them. Bad politics is not good,” he said.
He dispelled the report that the wife of former
President Jonathan, Patience, was sponsoring a
candidate in the All Progressives Congress against
his governorship ambition.
“Patience Jonathan is not my enemy. I’m not
aware she’s sponsoring any candidate against me.
Former President Jonathan believes I should be
re-elected. He is my elder brother.”
He said, “All those who defected are my
contractors. Would you call someone who gave
you a contract your enemy? They are positioning
themselves for federal appointments, as my party
cannot give them that.
“I have faced stiffer opposition in the past and I
came out victorious. The PDP is solidly on the
ground in Bayelsa and nothing can shake it. In the
past 16 years, Bayelsa has always been with the
ruling party. That is why some of them are going
to the APC. It’s all part of politics. The defectors
are not my enemies,” he added.

Politics / 19-year-old LUTH Student Wins Miss Virginity 2015 by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 9:22am On Aug 19, 2015
A 19-year old student of the School of Nursing,
Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba,
Mosunmola Oladipo, has been crowned Miss
Virginity 2015.
Miss Oladipo floored 51 other self-confessed
virgins at the event held on Saturday in Surulere,
Lagos.
Speaking shortly after winning the keenly contested
crown, the new queen said despite the pressure
from many guys outside, she was able to hold her
‘golden egg’ based on her conviction.
Oladipo said, “It’s all about self-determination. It is
about knowing what you want to achieve. It is a
thing of honour to be a virgin.”
Although the originator of the competition, Princess
Adunni Adediran, noted that the contestants were
not medically or physically tested, she said it was
organised to honour and appreciate virgins.
According to her, the judges considered the
candidates’ appearances and I.Q.
Adediran said, “I was thinking of our female
children who men repeatedly use to satisfy their
carnal desires before they are finally dumped.
These girls would have undergone several
abortions till their wombs are damaged, and when
they marry, they cannot have children. Some girls
even run mad.”
She added that some of the 52 contestants were
mobilised by a Muslim cleric, Alfa Sharafadeen
Bulala.
“When he saw our handbills, he was excited at the
prospects and invited virgins in his mosque and
the surrounding neighbourhood.
“When we started, we had a veteran gynaecologist
helping us – Dr. Naimdeem Adeikemade. But
some parents were grumbling that we were
violating the privacy of their children by inspecting
their privates. The ministry of health also wrote me
a letter in 2009 on the same issue.
“This time around, God forbid that anyone who is
not a virgin would come here to contest”, she said.

Politics / Buhari To Probe Jonathan’s Sale Of NITEL/MTEL by SWAGGAVILLAGE(m): 11:38pm On Aug 18, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered investigation into the sale of Nigerian Telecommunications, NITEL, and Mobile Telecommunications, MTEL, under the administration of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.

The telecom company was sold for $252m to NATCOM consortium in December 2014.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communication and Technology, told State House Correspondents on Tuesday after briefing the President Buhari that the president had directed him to raise a memo on the whole transaction to ascertain if there were any underhand dealings.

The official also disclosed that President Buhari expressed worry over the quality of service rendered by the telecom operators in Nigeria.

He said: “The President was concerned about the liquidation of NITEL. He is not opposed to its privatization but he wants to know and he want us to bring a memo on how the whole transaction was undertaken so that he would know whether Nigeria was shortchanged.

“The President was concerned by the quality of service of telecom operators. The President is very concerned about the whole issue of privatization that is hindering the investments in ICT infrastructure, and he will personally champion this. The President talked about the potentials of the ICT sector in generating employment.”
