In my day-to-day life, I haven’t met even one person outside government circles who supports what’s going on. Yet online, especially here, they’re everywhere.

Are these views actually representative, or is there coordinated messaging pushing a particular narrative? Is there a troll farm somewhere for these people to strategize on their messaging?

Genuine question — because the disconnect between real life and online sentiment is hard to ignore.

All these people online defending this government, do they live in this same Nigeria? I would like to meet one of them because I have not met one single Nigerian in my daily life that is not in government and supports this government.

Suddenly they are everywhere on Nairaland. Is there a troll farm for these people to collectively push a particular narrative?

Nigeria is too hard right now. Prices are up, people are struggling, and complaining online won’t fix it.

All these people online defending this government, do they live in this same Nigeria? It cost 92K to fill up petrol yesterday. Cost of everything is up.

We need consistent, lawful civic pressure:

Hello everyone, given the whole accountability discussion we've been having regarding Abia State expenditure and who got what, I decided to compile the official budget history of the state from the start of the 4th Republic in 1999 up to the 2025. Might be fair to ask where some of the money went oh because me I'm not understanding.

Public finance data can be hard to find in one place, so I’ve put this together using official records from the CBN Statistical Bulletins, BudgIT, and the Abia State Appropriation Laws amongst other sources. The goal is to look at how each governor spent state money, the shift from salaries to infrastructure, and the massive impact of the exchange rate on our state's purchasing power.

The Data: Abia State Budget Timeline (1999–2025)

Key Observations:

The Dollar Reality: In 2013, the state had its highest purchasing power ever ($872 Million). Even though the 2025 budget is N750 Billion, it’s only worth about $484 Million because of the exchange rate. Looks like TA Orji is the "Dollar King!"

Infrastructure Shift: For 20 years, the state spent roughly 60% on running the government. Since 2024, that has flipped. We are now spending over 80% on Capital Projects.

Governance Trends: Notice how the budget contracted during COVID-19 (2020) and exploded in 2024.

Call for Correction & Discussion: Finding exact historical state budget numbers can be difficult. If you have access to official documents or signed Appropriation Laws that show different figures, please feel free to post them and I will update the table. Let’s keep it factual and focused on the data!

In my view, this thread is so wrong in many different ways. If he did this to someone else, they would have corroborated your story. But no one has done so. He has always been upstanding when dealing with me. Calling him that name and then putting it online is a bit of a stretch.

I ventured into agriculture many years ago to create jobs, create wealth and food security so iykbethany farms is a project that is very important to me, but the journey hasn't been easy at all. There have been trials and errors along the way and I have been documenting everything so others can learn from the process, my mistakes and struggles.

I already have other farms for banana, plantains, oil palm and pineapples but one other venture that really caught my eye was greenhouse farming due to its immense potential to improve crop yields and maximize the use of limited land.

The Decision to Venture into Greenhouse Farming
The idea to invest in greenhouse farming came from my observation of Nigeria's agricultural sector.
Agriculture remains a critical part of our economy, yet many farmers still rely on traditional open-field farming, which is vulnerable to weather fluctuations, pest infestations, and inconsistent crop yields. With greenhouse farming, I saw an opportunity to leverage controlled environments to optimize crop growth, especially for high-value crops like habanero peppers.

Initial Setup and Consultation
The first year I ventured into agriculture, I went into Plantain and cassava farming without consulting any professional so the project failed woefully. So these days I do a lot of research and I consult widely. Since greenhouse farming was a new venture for me, I knew that consulting an expert was critical to ensuring the project's success. So I turned to a greenhouse expert I met on Nairaland. After several discussions, I hired him to oversee the construction of the greenhouses and other necessary infrastructure on the farm.

The project plan included:
Setting up two greenhouses: One dedicated to habanero peppers (Habanero F1) and the other for bell peppers (Hercules F1 red and Abbey F1 yellow).

Constructing a water tank stand: This would support two large water tanks that were crucial for the irrigation system.
However, it wasn’t long before we encountered a significant setback.

Unfortunately, the tank stand collapsed on the very day we filled the tanks with water. It turned out that the contractor used inferior materials, specifically low-quality metal, for the structure. As a result, the tank stand could not support the weight of the filled tanks, leading to its collapse.

Damage and Financial Losses
When the tank stand collapsed, the two water tanks were severely damaged, leaving them unusable. This resulted in unexpected financial losses, as I had to buy two new water tanks.

Moreover, the entire tank stand had to be reconstructed from scratch but this time I used manual labour and I decided to use blocks and cement. 

The total damage and reconstruction costs included:
The cost of buying two new water tanks.
The expense of reconstructing the tank stand with stronger, more reliable materials—this time, I opted for a tank stand made from concrete blocks and cement instead of metal.

Lessons Learned from the Setback
While the setback with the water tank stand was a major hurdle, it also taught me several valuable lessons about managing a greenhouse farming project. As an entrepreneur, it’s essential to not only focus on the potential profits but also to be mindful of the process, quality of materials, and the people involved in the project. Also, I have found out that water tank stands made of block and cement are stronger than those made of metals. And it is cheaper as well. 

After completing the greenhouse construction, I decided to hire a farm manager/agronomist to help oversee the operations. I will never repeat the mistakes I made years ago when I planted cassava and other crops without proper supervision. So I found someone from UNIPORT who had the knowledge and skills I was looking for. Since he’s still a student at Uniport, he requested free furnished accommodation on the farm, along with cooking utensils, to make it convenient for him to manage the farm while continuing his studies.  

This is a pilot project so I am still learning and documenting the whole process. 

Phase 1: Seed Germination and Nursery
- Raised 1,000 seeds each of red and yellow bell peppers and habanero peppers- Germination occurred after 7 days- Nursery duration: 28 days before transplanting

Phase 2: Farm Preparation
- Cleared the farm
- Created ridges
- Installed irrigation system
- Opened holes for planting
- Applied manure and NPK 15.15.15 fertilizers

Phase 3: Transplanting and Greenhouse Setup
- Transplanted seedlings into two greenhouses:   
- Habanero F1   
- Bell Pepper (Hercules F1 red and Abbey F1 yellow)
- Set up:   
- Binding wire (upper and lower lines)   
- Staking rope

Feeding Pattern
- Week 1: Plain water
- Week 2: Nitrogen application
- Week 3: Calcium nitrate application
- Week 4: Potassium nitrate application

Conclusion
Greenhouses are a valuable tool for improving agricultural productivity in Nigeria, especially for crops like habanero peppers and bell peppers. By providing a controlled environment, greenhouses help farmers overcome the challenges of traditional farming, such as unpredictable weather and pests. The structured approach to farming, from seed germination to transplanting and feeding, ensures high yields and quality produce.

Most Nigerians do not know that the reason foodstuffs are expensive is because of insecurity in the North. Northern Nigeria is our food basket but sadly bandits and terrorists are attacking farmers on a daily basis. In some Northern states, farmers cannot access their farms without paying hefty ramson to bandits and there is no guarantee you will come back alive even after paying the ransom.
If the government can tackle insecurity, food prices will drop dramatically.

Please, parastatals are revenue generating agencies of government. Abia State teaching hospital doesn't offer free healthcare same with Abia State University and Polytechnics. These agencies receive subversion to help subsidize charges not the the money to run the agencies.

First of all, I have zero interest in pushing propaganda. None whatsoever. What's my own on whether Abia is good or bad? I'm just calling out bad (Terrible?) governance. My beef with any terrible government/governor is that they are not performing. If you do a deeper analysis to determine why or how they are not performing, you'll realize that one issue is that they grab an inordinate amount of money for themselves alone. In other words greed.

The security vote is very likely at or around 1,000,000,000 monthly. It stood at 700 Million monthly as of 2010. I said it was a rumor because only very few people can confirm the actual amount because the governors don't need to account for it. You can always prove me wrong if you think I'm talking nonsense.

On the issue of parastatals generating revenue, my understanding is that states in Nigeria receive all of their internally generated revenue and then reallocates those funds according to their agenda. So revenue from Abia Teaching Hospital or the state schools go to the state government first and then "logically" should then receive enough money to run itself but that has not been the case for ages.

Again, please prove me wrong if you think anything I've stated doesn't make any sense.

Also see the page attached. The governors security vote alone is larger than allocation to Ministry of education, health, sports and a bunch of other ministries COMBINED. Abia has an Abia Angels Football club? Wonders shall never end; they are receiving more money than Ministry of Sports. I read online that Abia State University Teaching Hospital staff haven't been paid for 13 months or so, is the N2.4 BN per year going to be enough for them? This state budget is shameful. I pity their citizens.

Based solely on the comments here it looks like Okezie Ikeazu is winning. Based purely on people who responded to the poll, Okezie Ikpeazu has 40%, Bello has 40% and Governor of Cross River and Benue state dey share the rest. The voting is still ongoing, I'll post up the final result afterwards.

This should not be applauded. Sacking them simply for being non Abians is against the One Nigeria everyone wants. We need to be one and that should start by stopping all this tribalistic nonsense.

So I just spent sometime digging around online and talking to a few people and this is what I pieced together. I'm going to dig into Kogi budget too if anyone comes up with some numbers I can start with.

The N2.5Billion you mentioned earlier is just the personnel cost for the executive office of the governor. It doesn't include N9.5 Billion for

Orji Kalu used to get N400,000,000 (400 Million Naira or roughly $2.7 Million then) monthly. Not to be outdone, TA Orji asked for and received a nice N300,000,000 increase; so his vote was N700,000,000. Not to be outdone either (because nobody wan carry last), Okezie Ikpeazu then increased his by another N300,000,000 to N1,000,000,000 monthly. Looks like they might have agreed to keep it around ~$2.7M monthly adjusted for inflation. I don't know.

Attached is the 2019 Budget for this year. It shows that the gov and deputy governors office got approx N13 Billion for this year. I think that doesn't include the security vote because I don't think he really needs to account for it anywhere.
