Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, died on Saturday at the age of 62. It was learnt that he died of a high blood pressure. Alamieyeseigha, who died around 4pm, was earlier rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital from his residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday. A source told SUNDAY PUNCH that the governor stayed briefly in Yenagoa last week before he went to Port Harcourt where his health condition worsened. It was learnt that the ex-governor later slipped into a coma and had been on life support for two days until his death on Saturday. His remains, according to a source at the UPTH, were later moved to the mortuary in the hospital. The source said, “He was down ‘somehow’ for the past few days. He was in Yenagoa and from Yenagoa to his Port Harcourt house. It was from his Port Harcourt house that they moved him to UPTH. “He was moved to UPTH from his house in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. He died this afternoon around 4pm. They said his death was as a result of cardiac arrest.” When contacted, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Aaron Ojule, declined to speak on the matter and referred our correspondent to the family of the former governor. Another source at the Port Harcourt International Airport told our correspondent that one of the sons of the ex-governor known to be a very cheerful person was moody when he was seen at the airport on Saturday. “He has been a very cheerful person. But today, he appeared very moody. We never knew the reason for this until we heard that his father just died,” the source said. Often referred to as the ‘Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation,’ Alameiyeseigha had a turbulent political past when he was the governor of Bayelsa State. He was once accused of corruption and allegedly disguised as a woman in London in order to evade arrest over charges of money laundering and was later impeached as a governor. Alamieyeseigha was a die-hard supporter of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson. The United Kingdom had in 2013 requested for his extradition to the country to face trial but Jonathan, did not grant the request. The administration then granted him presidential pardon. The British government, again, sought the support of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to extradite Alamieyeseigha to London for trial on alleged money laundering. He was the governor of Bayelsa State from 1999 to 2005. Alamieyeseigha, died a month to his 63rd birthday. Pardoned by the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for his conviction on corrupt practices as Governor of Bayelsa, he was recently thrown into a panic state by the request of the British government for his extradition. The request by the government of United Kingdom has however been a subject of criticism as Ijaw groups and political leaders had described it as suspicious and a political vendetta by the President Buhari Administration. Alamieyeseigha had in recent times also been a strong advocate of the second term aspiration of the incumbent Governor of the state, Seriake Dickson. In his last outing as one of the political leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Alamieyeseigha had been clamouring for the people to vote for the PDP. He had perceived that the upcoming onslaught of the All Progressives Congress in the state during the forthcoming December 5 governorship poll would not work as the state is solely for the PDP. The news of the demise of Alamieyeseigha, who until his death was regarded as one of the greatest leaders the state had ever had, hit the residents like a thunderstorm. In every nook and crany of the state, particularly in Yenagoa, residents, especially of the Ijaw stock, were seen discussing the death in hush tones. In his reaction, Governor Seriake Dickson described Alamieseigha’s death as a personal loss to him, the government and people of Bayelsa. He described the deceased political icon as a strong pillar of support to his government, stressing that his demise was a painful and monumental loss to the entire Ijaw nation, which he had always stood firm for in all its ramifications. Dickson in a statement by his media aide, Daniel Iworiso-Markson said, “The Bayelsa State Government also commiserates with his wife, Margret, his immediate family, the Alamieyeseighas, the entire people of the state. The Ijaw nation has indeed lost a rare gem.” |
This story got my attention, even though I do not have so much to give but if all the people that will read the story can donate #200. then we would have saved a life. Please read and push to other social media...... The parents of six-year-old Joshua Takon have appealed to Nigerians to come to the aid of their son, to prevent him from going blind. Speaking to Sunday Vanguard in Abuja, Mrs. Kate Takon Neji, from Cross River State, stated that Joshua, diagnosed with cleft palate from birth, needs N3.5 million for facial reconstruction surgery in India and save him from losing his second eye after losing the first. Neji stated that four months after his birth, Joshua, born with a ‘divided face’, underwent a surgical operation at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital to correct the anomaly, adding that few months after the surgery, they started noticing spots and pus on the face. She explained that Joshua underwent a second surgery in 2011 at the General Hospital, Asokoro, Abuja, which she said was not successful. The mother said, “We had to return to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital to tell the doctors about the development. Specifically, water and some whitish substances still come out of the only functional eye and this is a major challenge for him at school, as he finds it very difficult looking at the chalkboard. “It was from there that we were referred to Primus International Super Specialty Hospital, Abuja, where we were told they do not have the facility to carry out this type of surgery. The hospital later referred us to their branch in India.“We were told by the hospital that it would cost a minimum of $16,000, about N3.5million, for medical, transport and other expenses for the trip to India. We have spent all we had on the first two surgeries. I am a seamstress while my husband is a cocoa farmer. All our earnings have been spent on the first two surgeries, while my husband had to dispose of his land to meet the cost of one of the operations.”She said the family spent N870,000 and N500,000 on the first & second surgeries respectively and have been spending huge sums of money on drugs since after the surgeries. Neji appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the family to save Joshua from losing his sight and his life, especially as the situation is making it difficult for him to breathe. Giving a breakdown of the cost, a letter from Primus Hospital showed that approximately $10,000 is required for the cost of the treatment; $3,500 for air ticket (return) for two persons to India and $2,500 for accommodation and miscellaneous expenses. The mother stated that donations to save Joshua can be paid into Ecobank Account Number 5341006154, and Account Name: Takon Joshua Neji. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/boy-born-with-divided-face-loses-one-eye/ |
The Enugu State Government has commenced a comprehensive audit of staff in the 17 local government areas in the state in a bid to fish out ghost workers. The exercise commenced in two of the local councils – Igboeze South and Igboeze North – on Friday. Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ordered the verification, shortly after he assumed office, following indications that the presence of a large number of ghost workers was among the reasons the councils found it difficult to pay salaries. Speaking during the exercise, at the secretariat of the Igboeze North Local Government Area, Chairman of the Local Government Audit Committee, and Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubosi, stressed the need for all genuine workers to turn out for the verification. He also expressed satisfaction at the large turnout recorded at the commencement of the exercise. “I sincerely commend local government workers in Igboeze North for coming out in large numbers and for their maturity in complying with government directives,” he said. Explaining the procedure adopted by the committee, the Speaker said every worker is required to produce the original copy of the first appointment letter, and other relevant documents including confirmation letter, declaration of age and voter card. The workers are also expected to state their expected due retirement date. Those verified so far include primary school teachers, local government staff and pensioners. The 11-man audit committee, set up to carry out the exercise, was mandated “to ascertain the real staff strengths of the local councils to track down possible ghost workers, as well as make inquisition into the factors that make it impossible for some of the councils to pay staff salaries.” The committee was also directed to “determine the financial implication of the staff in respect of monthly salaries of each local government council, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board and Pension Board.” The audit committee was equally instructed to ascertain the outstanding salaries and allowances of each local government council, ESUBEB, Local Government Service Commission, as well as the local government pension board. In the same vein, the committee is to ascertain and verify the total number of primary school teachers in each of the local government councils, as well as the total number of pensioners on the payroll of the pension board. The governor also mandated the committee to determine the total sum of outstanding gratuities owed to retirees in the concerned establishments. |

Disney has announced that it will be producing its first animated feature film with two openly gay lead characters who will fall in love and, by the end of the film, even find happiness in a fairytale, same-sex wedding. The film, titled Princes, will be released to theaters and thereafter become Desney TV content in the fall of 2015.The entertainment giant has had a long history of supporting LGBT initiatives. In the late 90′s the company was among the first to extend healthcare benefits to partners of homosexual employees and Gay pride events have been hosted at Disney World since 1991.Many have also speculated that other Disney movies have been Pro-Gay, albeit in a more subtle way. Disney’s blockbuster hit, Frozen, was riddled with pro-gay subtext. Elsa hiding her ice-powers can easily be interpreted as a metaphor for the closet and the Oscar- winning “Let it Go” sounds exactly like a coming-out anthem. However, Princes will certainly mark the first time that the company will produce an animated children’s film starring openly gay main characters. Princes is an adaptation of the children’s book, “The Princes and the Treasure”, by Jeffrey A Miles. In the book, two handsome princes, Earnest and Gallant, set off to rescue a princess, but fall in love with each other instead. The fairytale story ends with the two princes getting married and living happily ever after. The book has recently been released internationally after initially being available in the United States in February of 2014 Since, our laws is against homosexual how do Government intend to stop this movie from gaining entrance into Nigeria. please I need your advice http\\:www.amplifyingglass.com/disneys-first-openly-gay-animation |
MosquitoREBIRTH:yes boss,Code of Conduct Bureau noted instead of bureau for statistics. |
EverestdeBliu:The coordinating minister for finance said that the government work force is overloaded, and Buhari's fastest way to create employment is by direct government employment. My question then is, do he want to further add more load to the already overloaded workforce or? |

I am a bit apprehensive about this manifesto, because the first item on the manifesto (Public declaration of assets and liabilities) has been encumbered. Buhari declared his asset secretly before bureau for statistics. He then said that those who are interested should contact bureau for statistics through freedom of information bill. |
Today marks President Muhammadu Buhari’s first official day at his desk, after Friday’s inauguration rites. And since he’s reeled out a litany of plans for a new Nigeria, starting from the electioneering period, it is time to begin to deliver on the promises, writes theTHISDAY Politics Deskhttp://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/time-to-walk-the-talk/210866/ |
