Wenger - We still have 'massive targets'

By Giuseppe Muro

Arsène Wenger knows Arsenal can ill-afford to let Sunday’s heartache get in the way of the “massive targets” they still want to achieve this season.

Despite the huge disappointment of Carling Cup Final defeat against Birmingham City, Arsenal are still well-placed and fighting on three fronts. And Wenger admits there is no time for a Cup hangover.

His team must pick themselves up and ensure the season ends with success, starting with Wednesday’s FA Cup Fifth Round replay against Leyton Orient.

“Of course, there is disappointment in the dressing room but the players are united, have a strong bond and are determined to go for the massive challenges we have in front of us,” the manager told Arsenal TV Online.

“We cannot let our motivation level or our confidence level drop because of that because of the massive targets we have in front of us. We have much higher targets than the Carling Cup, even though we would have loved to have won it. We all agree about that.

“We are in a massive race in the championship, we have an opportunity to qualify in the FA Cup and we have won the first leg in the Champions League [against Barcelona].”

i repeat, chelsea goes into this game to serve their own interest! They are hopelessly trying to get into the top 4, so if they lose here and at old trafford (six points) and they will still lose points from other games as their bad moment continues!so whatever they do tonite is 4 themselves and not 4 arsenal .chelsea is doomed tn fifth place whichever way the game ends!!

Dont think Chelsea will be doing Arsenal any favour if they ever beat Man united, let them lose or draw and they will remain in fifth position, any result chelsea gets they get for them selves, The club is doomed to finish fifth whichever way it ends. but any attempt to bring any other club in is nonsense. Let chelsea continue to try to save their own neck in FIFTH POSITION!! YEYE CLUB

Let the club called Arsenal handle your reply. If e still dey pain you. then go ahead and write more rubbish  but note that it does not take anything from the club as what you write here sir, you write in vain grin grin grin grin

Commenting on the interim results, Peter Hill-Wood, non-executive chairman, said:

"This is a robust performance in the current climate and is where we expected to be at this stage of the financial year and at this stage in our longer term development plans for the growth of the Club.

The Club is exactly where we want to be, competing for trophies across the closing months of the season. I know that Arsène Wenger and his players will remain focused and will be appreciative of the fantastic support they get from our fans around the world.

I also want you to know that we are proud of the fact we continue to compete at the highest level while staying true to our principles. We continue to operate as a self-funding Club. This brings its own challenges in an increasingly competitive environment but provides the platform for a secure and positive long term future."
Arsenal has since moved on--------like i said before this is one of History's greatest clubs in the making at least for those of us that are fans of Good football we shall continue to like and love Arsenal, Barcelona and the Ductch style of nice footie among other forms of entertainment . Its just fun isnt it?? there is always another game, always another season and even if a club like Arsenal wait 10 seasons i sure know the glory days is not over yet and the club has got many many many trophies to win.

@1025

did you say you quit being an arsenal fan out of frustration?? heeheheheh the problem with you guys is you dont see Football as a form of entertainment, in Nigeria the so called fans put it in their head that following an EPL club is like a job for which you have no option of loving the brand of football another club plays, you believe if you are a man united fan then all manchester city plays is rubbish even on theday they beat man united 3-0, Tevez must be the worst striker in the world all because he plays for another club. THe basis for which you follow clubs is shallow . For someone like me i watch football to enjoy myself, entertainment is the primary aim.if my favourite clubs wins fine if not that does not and can not make my life misrable, for example i enjoyed my self this last weekend, Barcelona extended their lead,Bayern munich got owned at home, a favourite club in EPL did not win a cup that the opposition here sees as a mere milk cup if they win and a point to rant about if they lose, and you expect the world to end because of that? omo football can only be enjoyed depending on the reason you attach to it,certainly not this madness in Nigeria !!Birmingham waited 63 years but their fans stayed and i can assure you some of them are  happier than any Barcelona fan at the moment WHY? because they have been going to the stadium all their life to enjoy their club play as a form of tradition and  does not give a hoot if there is a useless club named chelsea being taken over by some sugar daddy russian billionaire!! Though the typical Nigerian football fan may not understand. but Arsenal is doing very fine and the wait for trophies will end sooner than you expect but while waiting why not just enjoy your self!!  you guys follow clubs for the wrong reasons, and if chelsea goes trophyless for 5 years shebi you can still claim to be a fan of Man united abi??  grin grin grin  it is a pity!!

Like i mentioned , it is always very difficult to break a jinx. Arsenal had two to break. Wenger and the last 5 years. well it was one of those nights when you needed a victory but could not just find it. like i predicted it was going to be very HARD and hard and difficult it was. better luck next time to all Arsenal fans. it was an interesting game though! keep enjoying Football. Your trophy will come eventually no matter how longer you gotr to wait, maybe this season the next or the next. but keep trying. looking 4ward to the next beautiful game of football!!

the only trophy manchester united won last season was the carling cup,and therefore were not trophyless last season. This season arsenal is in the final and remains the only EPL team still in ALL four competitions!!!! If arsenal gets the cup on sunday it may be the mental lift needed to gun for the 3 other cups.so far this season arsenal is doing very well. Wenger knows!!

Winning the carling cup may be vital to Arsenal's success this season, it can as well serve as a mental boost to achive better result in everyother competition, Arsenal remains the only English club still in ALL competition and that is worth something. The club is doing well. Very well i must add.

Arsenal takes the day!! one  points behind manchester united ahead of United tuesday clash with the team called blues Chelsea. hmmm at the bridge.  undecided undecided undecided

Arsenal plays Carling cup final a difficult game, not because Birmingham is strong but becuase its always difficult to break a jinx.

GIST FOR ARSENAL

Manchester United has got 3 consecutive away games starting with Wigan on saturday------

Wigan v Man Utd, 15:00           Feb 26
Chelsea v Man Utd, 19:45     march 1
Liverpool
v Man Utd, 13:30   march 6

i believe if Arsenal can maintain a 100 % record ( win ) in the their next 3 EPL games against sunderland, WBA and blackburn  they are likely to be ahead of manchester united by at laest two points by the time they meet blackpool in the next fixture, although this is just a theory as there are other chalenges capable of wearing the gunners out like 1. carling cup final (worth dieing for) 2. FA cup replay 3. Second leg at barcelona all in the same period and of course a possible FA cup clash with the Devils at old Trafford.   if the gunners can come out of all this without any set back they desrve at least a double this seson. HERE COMES THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF ARSENAL SEASON The next five matches  covers four competitions!! and all is a must win. Arsenal is the only club in the EPL still in all four  but here is where they must prove they can because everything is now MUST WIN!!

A cup win on sunday might just be the catalyst needed, the win in the sail to take them through----who knows?
