Another chapter in the road to the 2015 elections was opened after Punch and The Sun newspapers published a controversial advert by Ekiti state governor Ayo Fayose.

The controversial ad showed late past leaders who died in office such as Murtala Muhammad and Musa Yar’ Adua, and urged Nigerians not to vote for someone who would die in office.
The advert drew widespread criticism from Nigerians, and even the PDP disassociated themselves from it.

Daughter of the late Sani Abacha, who is also mentioned, Gumsu Abacha, also heavily criticized the poster.

In a tweet, Gumsu said, “When will our leaders learn to respect their predecessors?? I am utterly disgusted by this poster. Shame!!! I still cannot believe it.”

After Cynthia Morgan got on Instagram to threaten Queen Ure for suing her over the song ‘Popori‘ and winning, Queen Ure has responded to the reggae diva.

Queen Ure gave a response to Cynthia’s post while speaking to Saturday Beats on the phone, and by her explanations, she said she wouldn’t ‘stoop so low’ going to social media to exchange words with anybody. She further said:

“The court has said that her song should not be played and that is it. The title of her song is the same pronunciation as mine even if it is not spelt the same way. The court is aware of all of these and the difference in spellings even before it gave the injunction.”

“The order is yet to circulate to all radio stations and it will be done soon. The injunction is there and anybody who doesn’t want to comply with the injunction knows the consequences. Rev, Father Ejike Mbaka who delivered a controversial statement on President Jonathan’s administration and described it as full of ‘bad luck’ & poor performance revealed during a Sunday service on the 4th of January that he has been receiving death threats.

The clergyman said however, that he was not afraid of anybody and that he has delivered the message he was sent to deliver. He says he has been accused of receiving money from APC Presidential candidate Gen Muhammadu Buhari, a man he claimed he doesn’t know in person.

“Tell them I am not afraid of them. I have said what I was asked to say. The only word I have for them is Isaiah 54:15,17: ‘Surely they shall gather, but because the gathering is not of God they shall scatter. No weapon fashioned against me shall prosper.’

They said Buhari gave me money, but I have never met with Buhari. I don’t know him in person. I only delivered the message I was given and I stand by that message because the future of this country is bleak with Jonathan on the saddle.” he said

Fr. Mbaka said he would have delivered his message to Patience Jonathan privately but efforts to reach her failed on several occasions.

“When she came here, I told her to give me her number so that I could give her messages, but thrice she refused. It was later she told one of the pastors with her to give me his number. So, before that message, I had called the number for two weeks but it was always the Personal Assistant to the pastor that picked the calls”he said

He said if President Jonathan is re-elected, “the next four years will be hell for the country. People are crying of hUnger but then you will see what is hunger.”

About 300 shops were lost to a fire that blazed through the Sabongari Zaria main market in Kaduna state.

The Vice-Chairman of the Butchers Association of the market, Mallam Adamu Ibrahim, said the cause of the fire – which started early on Saturday morning – was unknown.

“Reports received from eye witnesses so far, indicated that the fire started either by midnight or early morning of Saturday and it is suspected to be caused by electricity problem,” he said.

“It took the intervention of good Samaritans and men of the fire service to put off the fire and prevent its escalation.

“However, more than 300 shops have already been destroyed. We are therefore appealing to government to come to our aid.”
