sharwama: We already know VOs are unpredictable, they should stop breaking the hearts of students who worked their asses off to get accepted into good schools and even went an extra length to get funding. We know they are unpredictable, mummy LagosismyHome please tell them we know and we need no more conviction. I am in pains right now, it's been a tough day for me reading/ hearing about these denials. My heart goes out to all who were affected. I pray you learn the lessons, correct your mistakes(if any) and pluck up courage to rise again. Dust yourself up and try again. To those who are yet to have a conversation with the VO, it's okay. You've got this, just go do your thing. I know you are nervous and probably anxious(yeah I was there few weeks ago). You will be fine. Don't let the rejections get to you, your case is different. I am sending you lots of love, light and hope. Go get that visa! May the force be with you! Madam please reply my mail na hian |

bracelum: I don't review transcripts via emails. Post it here - I can't guarantee that I will review it here, but if I don't, someone else will. Me- Good Morning VO- Morning, pass me your passport and i20. VO- Where are you going? Me- I am going to the University of Toledo for my Masters in Civil Engineering with concentration in Environmental Engineering. VO- Why US and not Nigeria? Me- As a future lecturer, achievements are measured mostly by the level of research one has undertaken. There are no active researches being carried out on the use of biotechnologies to understand the role of micro-organisms on environmental engineering systems in Nigeria hence why I want to go to the US. VO- How did you know about this school? Me- I carried out research on usnews.com and gradcafe, streamlined the search with my research interest in environmental sustainability and UT was among the schools. VO- How many schools did you apply to? Me- University of Maryland College Park, Toledo and New Haven. VO- How many gave you admit? Me- All gave me admit. VO- Why this school over others? Me- The University has one of the best Environmental Biotechnology Laboratories in the country to carry out the research. Also, I am interested in the ongoing research work of Prof Dae. He is working on employing multiomics technologies and bioinformatics to investigate the role of microbiota on environmental engineering systems. My decision was also aided by the 50% scholarship I received from the school. VO- Why this course? Me- The MSc degree in Civil Engineering is the next step in my career plan. It will give me the required qualification to take up a lecturing job in my alma mata as I finished with a first class grade in my department. VO- Tell me your study plan Me- I will take 21 credit hours of coursework and 9 credit hours of thesis. I will take courses like Air Quality Modeling, Environmental Engineering Chemistry, Environmental Systems Design etc. VO- Did you write any test? Me- Yes, I wrote GRE and had 310. VO- I can see you have some form of scholarship. How did you get this and who will cover the rest of the tuition and fees? Me- The department probably took cognisance of my strong application profile especially my statement of purpose, GRE and GPA. My aunty will cover the rest of the fees. VO- What does she do? Me- She is a businesswoman and the owner of **** ventures, a company that deals with the importation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. |

bracelum: I admire your guts. For you to have a BS in Geology and targeting an MS in Computer Science shows you are a very impressive student.
Have you taken prerequisite courses in computer science from your undergrad? If no, that might be a stumbling block for you. If you haven't done the prerequisites, you might want to take either of these two options;
1. Apply to a college that will take it slowly with you Since you are a switcher, target schools that take a very lenient approach for switchers like you. Some of them allow you to take prerequisites while you complete your master's degree while others allow you take your masters for three years, instead of two years.
I will also advise you throw in one or two Ph.D. apps because it may give you enough time to learn the concepts very well
2. Use this gap year to take prerequisites This option is more expensive but it makes sense. You can use the gap year to take prerequisite courses from online community colleges or from college extension programs. Once you get them done, you can then apply to solid two years programs with or without loans (it will pay off if you attend a top top computer science college). I don't consider Northeastern to be a top computer science college so I won't advise you to take that deal. You will get cheaper deals from better computer science colleges if you do your homework.
I won't advise you to take route 2 because it may be a lot of work for you because you will have to combine GRE study with taking prerequisites. Also, it will be an expensive option and from your comment, I don't think you are prepared to pay $800 per course (and you willl need to take 4 courses at least).
So, my ultimate game plan for you include;
1. Ace your GRE and TOEFL and target 315+ and 100+ respectively. You strike me as a brilliant student so I don't think this will be an issue for you if you put in the needed dedication. If you score below this threshold, you will sell yourself short and you will attend colleges that do not befit your status as a first-class student.
2. Target schools that will take it slow with you and at least two PhD programs. Look for schools that are lenient to switchers.
3. Make sure you can demonstrate to the admissions officers that you will not struggle with CS modules. You can show this through previous technical projects OR completed prerequisite courseworks with good grades. If you have a particular area of interest, that will sell you more by showing your work in those areas
Any more advice from this, I will charge you my consulting fee I sent you a mail boss....no reply yet |

fairheart: I know he can use company, but if he do that, her sponsor as he will write on the dsform will not be aunt but company name. If you write a company name as sponsor, you will have to say it is the company sponsoring you during interview. If he say it is aunt but company name is what the VO is seeing on the dsform, don't you think that will make the consular think he doesn't know what he's doing or saying?
The idea is to present himself as simple, accurate as possible, to make it easy for himself. |

Time2win: You can but personal account is advisable. There are people who have liquid assets and the only huge cash they have are channeled into there businesses hence their business accounts have huge sums. People who use company accounts backed up with sponsor letter indicating the sponsor's name should not be at a disadvantage. |

My friend went for his F1 visa interview at Abuja on Thursday last week. He was given the white paper but they held on to his bank statement that they need to verify it which he agreed to.
He got a mail today that his visa was denied which I have attached the letter below, and also on the visa web page its showing refused.
His account statement is 100% its his Dad personal account and the money Is still intact till date.
What could be wrong? And pls check if he received any ban. Thanks It doesnt have to do with the SOA. He was refused cos he didnt show enough strong ties in Nigeria and he was not banned. |
