Islam for Muslims / Re: RIGHT Or WRONG? - Yesternight Taraaweeh (asamu) Before Sultaan's Announcement by takleboy(m): 11:26am On Jun 18, 2015
PhunsukhWangdu:
In the Name of Allaah, The Entirely Merciful, The Especially Merciful.

As much as I detest sounding rude to authorities (particularly that of Islaam). And as I do solemnly abide by whatever the Sultaan announces, with all due respect I will say he ought to have announced on the16th of June being the 29th of Sha`baan, that since the crescent was not sighted, sha`baan would be completed as thirty yesterday, the 17th of June and that today, 18th of June would thereby be the first day of Ramadhaan. Not doing that resulted to depriving some Muslims from observing the Taraaweeh in congregation yesternight because of their respect for the Seat of caliphate. In fact, Saudi Arabia made their own announcement on Tuesday, the 16th of June.

It was not comfortable for me yesterday hearing them claiming 17th of June to be 29th of Sha`baan again. It showed how much we have neglected the sunnah. The sunnah is to search for all the twelve crescents in a year to ensure proper up to date follow up and not just for Ramadhaan, Shawwaal and Dhul Hijjah.

I swear by The One in Whose Hand my soul is, myself and some brothers sighted the second moon of Sha`baan after Sọlaat ulmaghrib on the 19th of May when I was still in my hometown and it lasted quite long before it faded off. Unless anyone will convince me it was the crescent we sighted. In essence, 19th of May should be the first of Sha`baan and if we backdate today to 19th of May we will eventually arrive at thirty.

So I insist 17th of June is not 29th of Sha`baan (even in our province here).

Although I do not support those that observed their Taraaweeh last night but they might not be wrong if their intention before performing it was based on the fact that 17th of June was 30th of Sha`baan and not 29th. Conversely I, myself had to beg my brothers in the Masjid that we would not, since the Sultaan was yet to announce, even though I believe we were already in the night of Ramadhaan and that today would be the first of Ramadhaan.

Salamn Alaykm #brodaly
base on some literatures and text i read during my few days in Islamiyah as regard Ramadan and sighting of the crescent, thus, in brevity; "when you sight the new moon, Fast, but when its obscured to you, count shabaan to the 30th day then Fast" this is but clear. The issue is the counting and the sighting and there is always no problem with them except the month of Ramadan perhaps it depicts how sensitive it is.
My brother to your qstn, in my own humble opinion may Allah have mercy on me, it isnt unacceptable to have prayed taraweeh yesterday before the announcement of Sultan for we all know that no other day it could have do it other than yesterday.
If i were to go by your observation, yesterday was 30th day of shabaan base on your count so should you have refused taraweeh prayer in your mosque with your brothers? Its sunnah should have benefited from.
Please you need to know we have council of erudite scholars at all level championing the affairs of Muslims around the Sultanhood and making sure the unite the muslims when it is absolutely neccessary.
To cap it all, base on your observation you are right and the other party too are right. I thereby seconded to the point of highlighted by PassingShot.

Well whatsoever you called it, one of the significance of #Ramadan is to bring you closer to Allah cleanses you from vices and mend you ways thereby making you more pious and return get a manifold reward for it. so everybody is hoping to achieve it. Remember Allah said "khuliqa l-insanu dhoeefa" # -human is created weak-. So as human we pray for forgiveness surely we have wronged our soul, hence Ramadan is one of the yardstick Allah has put in place for us to achieve it.

Have learn a lot from here ooo
@OP yours in better because your still at decision stage.
As for me, have been admitted, paid school fees before asking the question someone asked earlier on this thread.. "why am I doing this masters self"
Like you, I have a job too.. Am like a personal assistant to a petroleum merchant.. Supervise and audit the account of 4 of his stations. My salary by the book is small but my off the book income is like time three (hope you get what I mean by off the book)... But am of the opinion that it's a one man business and bla bla bla... that I need a career job.. Am underutilized and other things.
I was still valuable and my boss ask all station managers to send daily report to me for review... That's my first week in school... Then I had a second thought.... Considering the economic situation of Nigeria, I felt if I blow this chance, it s my fault.
A week later, it's fuel scarcity that lasted for weeks and I have to return back to work.
Now and keenly looking into various options that has been mentioned here.
OP, am not here to say you shouldn't pursue your masters.. But weigh the cost.. Leverage on all the factors earlier mentioned on this thread. I graduated with 2.1 Economics too and I can count many aptitude test have attended with M. SC holder in attendance.
Cheers
Gbamm!!!

Career / Re: I Want To Leave My Job For Masters by takleboy(m): 4:48pm On Jun 14, 2015
Having gone through so many commentators comments, i can hereby categorised all into three:
1. Those that never think its unwise to leave your job for Master
2. Those that deem it feasible to combine both
3. Those(very few) that believe its worthwhile to dump the job to pursue yor programm.
For sure all have basis for their perception, but let me chip in this; it must be ascertained that some individual enjoy being in class thus learning.
To the OP, pls search your mind and define what you want before picking up any advice.
I must say this; I graduated 2012, served in Lagos feb 2013-mar 2014, luckily for me i got my current job Nov 2013 thats 3mnths to d end of ma nysc although i didnt applied they just pulled my CV from an institution where i was running a professional course during my service which reckoned on me skills that are parallel to the career(engr) i am passionate about. I was absorbed into the coy as an intern with little pay despite my skills and knowledge worth more than that but i accepted the offer because i myopically thought it was plus for me to get d job as a corper.
I combined the job, nysc plus my professional training altogether then even as the job required 6am-6am, mon-sun working time as i young dude i believed i can rugged it not knowing it was at my detriment.
Before i finished my first degree i had idea of the i wanted to do my second degree and vowed i wouldnt waste time on it, i picked up the next available entry form during my service yr still, i had to write entry exam so i need to prepare for it hence i combined this to the combination i aforementioned. I got the admission start the programm, so have idea of the whole thing i have to do, it was not very funny but what pains me most is that i accepted offer that does not support my career progression, it does not backup my kind of person and prevails no prospect to me, just because i am abuseminded that its hard to find job. And while working their i had couple of invitations from serious coys and i could not make attendance or some i attend but no further feedback just because my current job didnt allow me time to prepare my self for such opportunities, but recently that i read XFIRE article on 'my dream Career my experience and my lesson' i am a new person with disabusedmindset.
So dude my advice is that, stop to think you can grow farther than where you are now, that you didnt worth more than what u getting now or if u quit that you doomed, but still you should know that years of experience matters and that might just be the onlky one thing you need to pull that dream job, if you need to quit your job for Msc, pls do or better still combine both. Do remember that you need time to integrate all these resource u sought for together to make u better. To be contn....

Oh my God, i am enthusiastic about making comment on this.
Wooooww! I knew Bayo will thus go farther than this, i met Bayo the first time at City Mall at the 50th aniversary of Martin Luther King Junior ' i have a dream' he was one of the speakers there, i went as a corps member serving in Lagos then. After the program i was moved to meet Bayo and have a talk with him in which he gave me his complimentary card, Bayo Omoboriowo profile agitated my inquisitiveness about meeting him. When i heard he graduated from Chemistry with 4.0 above in Unilag and was offered lecturing job which he turned down the offer to go for photography, thats was rare. Bayo speak about his project to me and i also told me about my proposed CDS project which i may need him too, and with humility it was a great session with. Plus his girlfriend never let him go anywhere alone we were at the table for two all together. Lol to the babe, just chewgumming him wish both the best in life. @BAYO i almost wish you remember this scene.
