Sh0lar: What is happening to GT bank. The share keeps falling. It is currently at 24.95k just 0.6k higher than Zenith Bank. Well me I think it is a bargain price as I keep buying more of GTbank.
But is there any news or event we are not aware of that is making the share fall? bad result |

locodemy: Although I have not been able to monitor upl because of it's nature(seasonal stock) but I think the 1m bids you are talking about are not being filled and keep on appearing day by day because there is no adequate offers to match the bids.Remember the rule is for a stock to change in price, there must be a 100k block units to effect a change in price. I will watch the movement of upl tomorrow. Buying upl is not the issue but to hand over is the koko. Oga my point is: NSE rule is that, if the price must move the highest bidder have to be filled first before the lowest bider. If they are crossing to themselves no matter the volume they should leave the stock price the way it is. The question is how do they move the price about 10% lower than the previous day's closing price with just 100k shares, without first filling those about 1million shares bid at 10% above the previous day's closing price? |

OBAGADAFFI: What is happening in UPL it has been on full-bid for a while Good evening House, it's been a while. How are you fearing? Talking about UPL though I am not their shareholder, for about a month now I have been observing the price movement and I am suspecting that it is being manipulated. How can a stock be on full bid with about 1 million shares bid at 10% above the previous closing price, and the stock still close 10% lower than the previous closing price without filling those bids that are at 10% higher than the opening price that remained there until the market closing time? Or is there a new rule on ngx that permit such that I don't know about? |

emmanuelewumi: What will you say about those who bought land banana Island in 2010 at N800 million,, who are currently looking for buyer for the same land at N600 million in 2020.
That same N800 invested in Zenith bank shares and dividends reinvested would have grown to N2.67 billion in 2020 We were not comparing real estate investment and stock Investment, rather we were comparing very along term investment on the NSE and short / mid term (or selling when you see your profit) NSE investment style. Besides, my major concern was that Zenith bank is one of those companies on NSE that can be said to have performed better than others during the period under review, yet their case is like that. What about those ones that did not fair so well during the period, how will their own data be if they are to be analyzed? |

DrAwo: Apologies for replying late...
In this model, we assume one buys 1million units of Zenith bank during their IPO in 2004 at N10.90.
All dividends are reinvested on 01/04 to buy zenith bank shares. I however could not get historic prices between 2005 - 2008. Hence we assume that it is bought at N20/share for those years (which is quite generous)... I remembered that the big banks in Nigeria (Intercontinental, Zenith, FBN, etc) traded within the range or N50 - N65 from 2007 to 2008 before the 2008 economic crisis |

zimams: This just brings it home.
Just found out in the past week that I hold 27,000 units of Wema Bank Shares which I bought sometime btwn 2007 and 2008 at N9/share. And I bought Zenith around that same time for N48.05/share, and Japaul at N3.25. Luckily I jumped out of zenith at a loss in 2009. But held on to Wema and Japaul.
Found an Old CSCS statement in my files last week that showed these. Called the stock broking firm I used then, asked for an updated CSCS statement and Alas... the shares were still there..
I felt sick to my stomach. I thought I sold everything then .. when the bubble bursted.
So my Japulian brothers & sisters! I dey inside that bus o! with a terrible entry point....
On a serious a note I wonder if it's really worth it long term... I wish to read some success stories around our NSE. My experience and few others I've read including @Dr.Awo's post isn't encouraging. Short to medium term JIJO suddenly seems like a good idea before weevils decimate person hard earned money. The problem is not about Dr.Awo's post. Infact I really appreciate his effort takes his time to do those research/analysis and posting them here. The problem really is that the stock market (especially in an economy like that of nigeria under the current leadership where the currency is devalued at random) on the average does not favour long term investors except of course one controlling intrest (enough intrest to be called to the board of the company). If the data of a very good company like Zenith bank can be like that in the long term, how about the nse average or the poorly performing companies? |

CashDiMkpa: That's why holding any stock for ever mindlessly does not make sense. Once the market prices your stock higher than your valuation, why hold on to it? You can sell and buy back later.
Imagine those that sold Zenith at close to N40/share in early 2018 and buying back now. Compare them to those taking N2.50k profit every year since then. Who is better off? exactly I believe in taking your profit when you see it |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by talk2me2: 7:40pm On Jul 18, 2020 |
DrAwo: If you bought Zenith bank on 01/01/2010 using N100,000 and reinvested all dividends received to buy more zenith bank shares on 01/04 each year, how much would your investment be worth as at 01/04/2020? this makes the wohle effort look like a waste of time. N100,000 in 2010 was more valuable than N338,354 today. |

jamace: *IMPLICATIONS OF THE NEW CBN POLICY OF GLOBAL STANDING INSTRUCTION*
The CBN yesterday released a new policy called GSI (Global Standing Instruction). The policy is a very welcome policy. Below, i try to summarize the major points of the policy.
1. It applies to all financial institutions in the country.
2. If you take a loan in any bank (say GTB) and you refuse to pay back, we would look for any other bank(s) in the country (say Access bank, and Sterling bank) where you have accounts and there is money, we would take the money from those accounts and pay GTB back. E.g you take 30k Loan from GTB and you fail to pay back. You have 10k in your Access bank account, 15k in your Sterling bank joint account with your wife and 8k in your child's First bank account that you help her manage (because she is still a minor). We would sweep the 15k in your Sterling bank joint account with your wife, sweep the 10k in your Access Bank, and take 5k out of the 8k you have in your child's First Bank account. We would send them all to GTB. The remaining 3k in your child's First Bank account would not be touched. That's a promise.
3. Even if its a joint account that your BVN is found on, money would be moved from there!
4. If we find out that you have an account that we should have moved money from but you have done chua-chua to not put your bvn on that account, then your BVN would be watchlisted. My brother, that is a major gbege! You are finished!
5. Only principal and interest would be swept from your other accounts. Penalty charges would not be included. CBN don try for us o.
6. If a bank wrongfully activates GSI on you (you have not defaulted on your loan and they go make the system sweep from your other accounts) , the bank would pay a fine of 500k sharparly. No begging.
7. If you complain about a wrongful activation of GSI on your accounts, and the bank claims you are wrong, you then decide to request for arbitration. If the arbiter rules that you are correct, then the bank pays a fine of 10M. No story!
The GSI becomes effective from August 1st 2020.
This helps the system to fight serial loan defaulters and allows banks to more readily give out loans. As a matter of fact, a bank can now choose to give you a loan without you previously having an account with the bank.
It's a new dawn in our country.
*- Otunba Fad.* I am more intrested in those fines If the fine of 6 or 7 is paid by the defaulting bank, who will take the money the CBN or the customer? |
