The founder and leader of a controversial Atlanta-based megachurch has appealed online for 200,000 people to each donate '$300 or more' so that he can buy a $65 million private jet favored by high-flying billionaires.

Reverend Creflo Dollar, 53, is the head of the World Changers Church International, a Christian ministry centered around the prosperity gospel, which preaches that God wants to bless the faithful with earthly riches.

The televangelist, who is one of the most prominent African-American preachers in the United States, this week put a five-minute video up on his website pledging for donations for a Gulfstream G650 - which claims to be the fastest plane ever built in civilian aviation - so that 'World Changers Church International can continue to blanket the globe with the Gospel of grace'.

Dollar - who is known to own two Rolls Royce's and multi-million dollar homes in Atlanta and New Jersey - last hit headlines in 2012, after being arrested for allegedly attacking his 15-year-old daughter.

Among the billionaires who own a Gulfstream G650 are Steve Jobs' wife Lauren Powell Jobs, Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn add Nike co-founder Phil Knight.

There is a long waiting list for the aircraft, with the next round of planes not due until 2017.

According to the Creflo Dollar Ministry's website: 'The ministry's current airplane, was built in 1984, purchased by the ministry in 1999 and has since logged four million miles.

'Recently on an overseas trip to a global conference, one of the engines failed.

'By the grace of God, the expert pilot, who's flown with Creflo for almost 20 years, landed the plane safely without injury or harm to any passengers.'

The Christian Post first reported that Dollar insisted that he needs the jet to continue sharing the word of Jesus.

He preaches all over the world, but primarily works out of a 8,500-seat amphitheater in Atlanta called the 'World Dome', satelliting the sermons to churches all over the country.

The website pledge continued: 'Believe it or not, there are still millions of people on this planet who have never heard of Jesus Christ and know nothing of His greatness.'

'Our hearts desire to see precious lives changed and snatched out of darkness and thrust into His marvelous light!

'We need your help to continue reaching a lost and dying world for the Lord Jesus Christ," the appeal continued before asking supporters of the ministry to sow a $300 seed into the airplane fund, billed Project G650.'

However, according to Financial Juneteenth, a Report of the Senate Finance Committee, Minority Staff Review of WCCI, found that Dollar's current jet had also been used for a variety of vacation flights, including stops in Las Vegas, Nevada, Miami, Florida and Hawaii, citing Federal Aviation Administration figures.

Dollar has refused over the years to disclose his salary, but has an estimated net worth of $27 million.

He has five children to his wife, Taffi, who he married in 1985.

In June 2012, his 15-year-old daughter called 911, saying her father repeatedly punched and choked her at their Atlanta home.

The teenager also said it wasn't the first time something like that had happened and that she felt threatened living in the house.

Dollar was arrested and charged with family brutality and juvenile cruelty.

PhonesMicrosoft Wants To Take Over Your Android And IOS Phones by talktimi(op): 7:53pm On Mar 13, 2015
If you can’t build it, latch on to it and use it. Or something like that. That is Microsoft’s game plan in mobile. How else do you summarise the company’s new, fervent cross platform drive? We got full Office for Android and iOS. We got full Outlook. And now, there are reports that Microsoft is developing an advanced version of Cortana for Android and iOS.

This new version of Cortana will use research from an artificial intelligence project called “Einstein.” The idea is to have Cortana evolve into the first intelligent ‘agent’ which anticipates users needs on those platforms. Well, if that isn’t a takeover plot, I don’t know what is. Plus, that move to invest in Cyanogen’s Android fork.

As a whole, I think that Microsoft’s new drive is brilliant. It reminds me of how Google rose by riding on Windows instead of replacing it. This could just work.

A security expert, Mr. Lekan Jackson-Ojo, has said the failure of Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to pay workers for the last five months could trigger insecurity and other forms of crimes in the state.

Jackson-Ojo said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Friday.

He said it was criminal to leave workers’ salaries unpaid while the governor was funding campaigns of his party’s candidates.

Workers under the aegis of the Trade Union Congress, led by their chairman, Mr. Olatunji Akinyemi, had staged a protest against alleged unpaid five months salaries on Tuesday.

Jackson-Ojo stated that workers would be encouraged to engage in corrupt practices while traders and artisans might be lured into crimes if they did not enjoy patronage from civil servants who had not been paid.

He said, “Governor who has not been able to pay workers five months is busy funding the campaign of candidates of his party who have failed in their first term.

“Aregbesola should pay workers. It is their rights to be paid. He should not allow them to be protesting before paying them. It is unfair.

“A governor who refuses to pay workers is encouraging criminality and insecurity because poverty will lead to tension and insecurity.”

The security expert also said the people of Ijesa North Constituency were the worst hit because while the governor had refused to carry out any project in the area, the lawmaker representing the area at the House of Representatives, Nathaniel Agunbiade, had also done nothing but diverted the constituency projects and allowance meant for the area to the state government’s purse.

According to him, the lawmaker said all members of the National Assembly from the state donated their constituency project allowance to the state government to carry out some projects but he said Ijesa North Constituency had not benefited anything from the governor and the lawmaker.

The governor had since appealed to the workers to be calm, while promising that their salaries would be paid very soon.

The media aide to the governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent.

The governor blamed the economic crisis in the country for the irregular payment of workers but said that he would address the issue very soon.

Those who don't understand security matters will take pedestrian opinions like that of the op seriously. In this case, there were two high profile individuals/targets in town in which one had an assassination attempt on his life last year (staged or not) and the other is a sitting president with history teaching us that lax security has led to the death of a Nigerian head of state before (Muritala Mohammed). The death by assassination of any of these two men would plunge the country into a crisis worse than the Biafran war. The best we can ask and have to demand for is a review of our security networks with an expansion of the forces via recruitment and equiping. Although the police is under the FG but states also get security votes which are used to augment the provisions of the security operatives to suit the situations on ground in the states eg in the south south, the state governors buy gun boats for police and jtf officer and we heard these robbers came by water. It's no time for blame games as we all learn everyday through good and bad experiences therefore I believe necessary action should be taken.

Leadership in this country (especially at the States and LGAs) is filled with insincerity, lack of vision and fraud. While I cannot underrate the impact of the oil price fall with respect to Federal allocation, I find it absurd that Governors and other public servants are always wasteful with the monies they get. The Governor of Osun State cannot say that he hasn't been paid for 5 months. The Governor of Osun State and his band of Aides can never tell us that they are being owed salaries and allowances. These so-called leaders live in luxury even in dwindling oil price when they are supposed to be on austerity. Why charter planes and tour the country when your people and workers are hungry? Should Osun civil servants take to stealing? should they abscond from duty? Why not maximise the potentials of the state so as to increase the IGR of the State? why is Nigeria plagued with fraudulent and vision-less leaders? Why can't some people think? My heart is with the good people of Osun State. You shall overcome.

On The Non-Payment of Osun State Workers for 5 Months...By Bayo Adeyinka

I read with consternation about the demonstration of civil servants in Osun State on the non-payments of their salaries for the past 5 months. I also read with shock and amazement how some of my friends laboured to defend this act by claiming it was not only Osun State that owed salaries and that non-payment was due to massive corruption by Jonathan. I also read on my friends Omowaiye Oluremi's timeline that Osun owes only 3 months and not 5 months. He went further to provide clarification that 80% of workers were paid their November 2014 salaries three weeks ago. His own opinion is that things will change when GMB takes over. My comment on his wall was that someone should be covering his face for writing that.
Now here's my take on this issue:

1. Any government, be it PDP or APC that owes 3 months salaries or more is callous, wicked and ungodly. It doesn't matter whether they shout change or transformation. Not especially when the Governor chatters private aircrafts for local trips.
2. The labourer is worthy of their wages. Civil servants or public workers have a right to their pay as and when due. No politician does anyone any extra good by paying salaries. Paying salaries is NOT an achievement.
3. Dwindling oil receipts is what is accountable for the reduction in allocation. So the question is: for how long will states depend on allocation to pay salaries and meet other commitments? Shouldn't each state focus on raising their revenue profiles?
4. The fundamental problem with Nigeria is our structure. It goes beyond who is ruling Nigeria. We must revisit our structure as it is. Why should states depend on allocation to do anything?
5. Are some states viable at all?

In my opinion, Osun State has no excuse at all. For a Governor who allegedly goes around on chattered flights, no excuse makes any sense at all. Has he considered cutting down the cost of governance- his numerous aides and Special Assistants? Of what essence is the elephantine airport project he's building in Osun?

I have outlined on a thread how I believe Osun State's revenue profile can be raised. Osun State has a cocoa belt. I know at least 2 confectionery makers who can have factories in Osun State and contribute to the development. All they need is tax rebate and land. What is Osun doing with Asejire River? How come I've not heard of a single IPP project in Osun? Or maybe I missed it? That's one of the few states where the impact of IPP can be easily felt due to the congruity of the communities. Ife/Modakeke/Gbongan has the best palm wine in Nigeria. What of having a bottled palm wine factory that will sell locally and later also embark on export? With the agrarian nature of Osun State, it can be the food basket of the South West. How is agriculture being developed? What of tourism? Apart from declaring Isese Day as a public holiday, Osun State can be a tourist haven- Nike Art Gallery, Twins Seven Seven, Opa Oranmiyan, Osun Osogbo and other ancient landmarks. What about having an arts and theatre village- Oyin Adejobi, Duro Ladipo, Ajoke Asewo To Re Mecca, Yemi Elebuibon, Baba Wande and a horde of other practitioners are from Osun State. The arts can be developed and made a big deal.

Let's talk about other mineral resources. In Osun State, almost all the local governments has more than one mineral resource that can be obtained from them. There is gold in Igila, Itagunodi, Oluwu Village, Iperindo, Iregun, Okulu Omo, Ashafe, Eyinta, Igangan, Okepo, Ipole Ajoku and Aiyetoro all in Atakumosa East and West. Gold is also in Ife East, Central and Obokun. Tourmaline is present in Irewole. Tourmaline is used in jewellery and in certain electrical materials, especially pressure instruments. It's also used in making hair care products apart from other trado-medical uses. Aquamarine is in Aiyedaade. Columbite is in Atakumosa West and Ife East. Columbite ore is used as an alloy of steel to form weldable high speed steel for radio transmitting valves, heat sensitive detective devices called barometer, for jet engines and other aircraft components. Cassiterite is present in Ife Central, Atakumosa East and West. Cassiterite is a derivative of tin ore necessarily used in circuitry and its use has, ironically, enabled devices to become more eco friendly.

Talc is found in Ifelodun, Atakumosa East and Irewole. Talc is used as extender in paints, insecticide carrier, rice polishing powder and wall tiles. Kaolin is found in Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ilesha, Iperinde and Iwaraja. Kaolin is used as filters in paper paints, adhesives, plastics, drug preparation ceramics, etc. Feldspar is in Ede and Irokun. Feldspar is used in paints, glass, tiles and scouring powder. Mica is found in Ifedayo, Irewole and Aiyedaade. Mica is a mineral that is commonly used in the electrical industry, to produce shingles and other building materials, and to prepare samples for microscopy.

I once made contacts with some close aides to Rauf Aregbesola about an Iranian car maker who was willing to establish an auto assembly plant in Nigeria. My preference was Osun State because that is my State and I felt Lagos has had enough. All he needed was government commitment to buy a paltry 100 cars and he will bring $1b to establish the plant. I kept on reaching to the close aides of Rauf to give them the link and I was ready to buy my own ticket to go and meet this Iran auto maker in Dubai to no avail. The selling price of a brand new car made by this car maker is N1m. The vehicle which looks like a pick up truck comes with a Peugeot engine. Maybe they will get back to me tomorrow.

There is a general absence of critical thinking among our leaders. The major problem we have is our inability to see beyond oil. My sincere prayer is that that oil that we all so depend on WILL RUN DRY TOMORROW. Maybe we will be able to think, then. Just maybe!

A recent study by the World Health Organisation says 66 million Nigerians do not have access to potable or safe water, a situation which has given rise to water-related diseases, costing the country a whooping sum of $2.5billion as people throng various hospitals for treatment.

waterThe situation is worse in Lagos State which accounts for about 21 million people without safe water. Indeed, it is said that over 40% of them do not have access to pipe-borne water from the state’s water corporation, hence their reliance on various alternative means of water supply. The most common is by sinking wells and boreholes.

From Lagos Island to Lekki-Ajah and Lagos Mainland, the situation is the same as residents pay through their nose to get potable water. A beautician, Mr Majekodunmi Adebari, who recently moved to his new apartment in Agboyi-Ketu said he spent N300,000 to sink a borehole.

Similarly a resident of Pero in Agege local government, Mr Mudasiru Gbadamosi, claimed he spends about N3,000 per week to get potable water.

In the face of this, the Lagos State government recently revealed its intention to partner with the World Health Organisation, WHO, to provide potable water for residents. According to the plan, the Lagos State Water Corporation will be operated by a Public Private Partnership, PPP. But the plan has been widely criticised by civil society groups which are of the opinion that Lagosians will be forced to pay for the services they don’t enjoy.

At Onipanu, for instance, residents claim most of the pipes are rusty with water being supplied only twice per month. In places like Baruwa-Ipaja, Gowon Estate, Amuwo-Odifin, Agbado-Ijaye and Ikotun, to mention but a few, residents claim they do not feel the impact of the state water corporation.

To make matters worse, some areas cannot dig or sink boreholes or wells due to the topography.

Also, a recent study kicks against the proliferation of boreholes in Lagos, reason being that the ground water could have been contaminated by salt water from the Atlantic Ocean.

Last Tuesday, Ikeja and its environs witnessed a large turn out of protesters under the aegis of civil society groups who came out to register their grievances with the intention by the state government to privatise the state water corporation. They were led by Environmental Rights Action, ERA/ Friends of the Earth Nigeria, FoEN, in collaboration with other stakeholders which delivered a letter to the state house to press home their demand that the privatisation plan be shelved.

Though the state governor was absent, the letter was, however, handed over to one of the workers as the protesters promised a follow up.

Director, Corporate Accountability ERA/FoEN, Akinbode Oluwafemi, is of the opinion that the state water corporation should not be privatised. His reason was that the action will increase unemployment rate, even as residents would be compelled to pay more for less services. “Lagos State water should be controlled by Lagosians, not by the World Bank,” he said.

Corroborating his view, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Lagos State chapter, Comrade Idowu Adelakun, said the state water scheme should be managed by government which had the responsibility to provide potable water for residents.

Some of the protesters claimed water is a fundamental human right which should be managed by the government. According to Mr. Victor Oni, an advertising agent: “Privatisation has been bastardised in Nigeria. Government will deliberately ruin some public corporations through corruption and inefficiency.

“They will turn around to sell the corporation to their cronies who in turn will strip those companies of their assets, sack the workers and pretend to make it work while charging unjustifiably exorbitant fees.”

By and large, the masses do not benefit . Though we may make a case for it when the government is ready to privatise governance and the economy, as both are afflicted with same illness.

Mrs, Abiodun Irokwe, a business development consultant, added: ‘’Why is government privatising parastatals? Can’t it manage them effectively? My own opinion is that government should stop privatising. Instead they should improve the management performance.

In a similar vein, Miss Chinaza Ezechi, a self-employed worker, said that though she has not enjoyed tap water even for one day, she will not support privatisation of the water corporation. According to her: ‘’Why should they privatize it, even the so called PHCN that was privatized, now charges higher than when it was in the hand of government. In my area, we don’t enjoy electricity, yet we pay power bills. Even if the water corporation is privatised now, the charges will also rise like PHCN bills and not everybody will get the water and they will also pay for the services they don’t enjoy. Government should wake up and know the root cause of why there is no water and sack those ghost workers in that ministry. Government shouldn’t privatise all their ministries. They should do their job and provide us with all the social amenities they have promised. It is not too much for them to do; just give an order and it is done.’’

Among other things, the civil societies advised government to fully uphold the human right to water as an obligation and to reject contracts designed by or involving International Finance Corporation IFC, which operates to maximise private profit.

Meanwhile, a copy of the letter to the governor reads: “We urge you to reject water PPP projects in Lagos. The models upon which these proposals are based have failed to uphold the human right to water and have locked government into long-tern contracts.”
