AnthonyAk:Although I have garnered experience in the health and financial services sectors, my major experience in the civil service is mainly administrative. From my findings, my job classification is included in the Canadian NOC. My professional certifications are spread across HSE, EIA, Fire Safety and Prevention, CPR and First Aid, Oil and Gas Environmental Management, etc. I also have adequate knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office and some other statistical package like SPSS. I intend to enroll for more ICT related trainings though. Three of my siblings over there are married save one. They all have their citizenship now. They are doing white collar jobs and are very okay. They reside in different provinces; Winnipeg, Ontario, Alberta. I have quite some savings plus a land property in Abuja (cost about 3m) although my siblings keep reassuring me of picking up all necessart expenses needed to migrate successfully. Last month alone (despite the COVID-19), they sent me 120k altogether for my upkeep. Thanks |

TheManhattan:really? What will make it genuine? Posting my picture or my appointment letter or perhaps my work ID to prove I am a public servant? Or post screenshots of my conversations with my siblings to validate the thread? Anyway, it's your opinion and thanks for contributing still. 2 Likes |

mkoabiola:Are you a civil servant? I bet you are not, else you wouldn't display this level of ignorance. People like you are why civil servants steal and do all manner of shady deals. You simply expect too much from us. Well, not everybody works in FIRS, NNPC, PPPRA, NIMASA, CBN, NDIC and the likes. Please go and research on the new minimum wage and you'll know there is nothing to celebrate about. An entry level university graduate earns less than 60k monthly in the new minimum wage CONPSS structure. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Jack500:LOL. When I mentioned going far, I didnt mean in terms of my salary. I meant in terms of my years in service. But I also reason with the popular comments here. My salary is the reason I haven't settled down yet. I'm not even in a serious relationship cos of fear. Thanks for your honest contribution. |

Holyfield1:Thank you. If I'm consider the option of leaving, I'll be using the express entry route. I only need to prepare for and ace IELTS as other factors such as age, work experience, academic qualification and having siblings who are canadian citizens put me at advantage. Precise, my family has a good migration history in canada. Even other families use our assistance to migrate. Actually, I'm considering that option because of my unborn children. I know training children with a salary of less than 100k in Nigeria can be herculian. My siblings told me their kids enjoy free education in canada. 1 Like |

martineverest:I quite agree with you that canadian visa aint easy to come by, but my mum travels at least twice a year to the same place. My family name has a good migration history with no crime record with the canadian government. Also, we settle really fast due to the support we give each other. All my siblings have acquired canadian degrees and have white collar jobs. Settling down over there isn't my fear but abandoning the career I have built here. Thanks for your contribution. 2 Likes |

PoliticallyInco:Thanks for your kind contribution. If I leave, I intend to pursue a new degree and subsequently a professional career in public health or ICT. Although my master degree is in environmental and marine pollution management and my current job description is administrative in nature. My siblings are really supportive and they are quite successful. One is a lecturer in Winnipeg, one an engineer in Ontario and so on. Settling down over there should not be a problem. |

Career / Should I Pursue Another Federal Job Or Leave For Canada? by TallNigerian: 6:56pm On May 22, 2020 |
Hello Nairalanders, I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job. The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff. I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications. I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult. However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver. I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there? My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career? Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks! @CrazyMan @1forall Please I need your help in pushing this forward for a wider view. Thank you. 41 Likes 8 Shares |
