A Wired network is far more reliable than a wireless network. The bandwidth is much more and workstations and other devices on the network respond on time to one another.
The problem your network may be facing is that either improperly configured ip addresses or the response of the workstations towards one another is slow due to the fact that you chose a wireless option of connection.

@kasiem and blackweever, you do not need to purchase new computers b4 you can have access to win7, purchasing original win7 dvd from any reputable software vendor and installing it on your pre-existing machine will do.

Update your antivirus software and scan the whole of your computer. If that doesn't work, replace the avast with up2date avira, then use it to scan your computer.

Win xp will lose it's microsoft support from 2012. The implication of this wil be loss of access to security updates, thus your computer's security wil be at stake. Apart from this, xp might not provide all the drivers for your pc, thus some hardwares may be rendered useless. Continue to use ur win7, it's the best microft o.s. so far. I hope you'll yield to my advice.

I just got a Linksys wireless router/gateway. The router links to the internet but I want to monitor and account for clients connecting to the internet though this device by requiring them to enter valid usernames and passwords through their respective web browsers before gaining access to external websites.
