No addiction comes close to tobacco's. At different points in my life, I was involved in at least one of the things listed except cultism of which cannot be properly called an addiction, but I gave all of them up immediately the will kicked in. Quitting cigarettes takes only a special kind of self-will and grace. If you are not a smoker, wake up every morning with a heartfelt prayer never to start.

I'm hardly moved by these arrogant display of wealth and quest for relevance which Nigerians call philanthropy! It never contains anything genuine.
While I'm totally not against generosity, I feel that it should be conducted quietly, without demeaning the beneficiaries.
The food stampedes across many states recently happened because the "philanthropists" gather large crowds in their quest to display wealth, earn public admiration and exaggerate their importance.
The unfortunate thing is that their supposed acts of charity never get to their immediate personal circles. Their domestic and formal staff are underpaid, exploited and hardly have access to the basics of good, dignified life.
