Am a novice,will soon venture into piggery,just have some few question,let assume u buy a purebreed parent line,how will u generate a slaughter line from it,what are the average litter it do give birth to? How many month will it takes to attend 70kg,wen feeding with cassava peels + PKC or Brewery waste? And the current price per KG is 300 so even selling it for slaughter they can't buy it 1000 per KG,so bro try and convince us here why u feel PIC is better for breeders than the Normal large white which most people breed

grsscttrs eat fresh cassava and not the peels. The sliced fresh cassava is mixed with other ingredients before serving. Besides cassava other fruits and vegetables are included in their diet once in a while.

i hear you bro but everybody needs somebody. No man is an island. There's no such thing as a self made man because behind every success story there are people that served as pillars of support and guidiance. The most important people in a mans life is his family and a man with out family has nothing really. Besides if you could do everything on your on you wouldnt be here soliciting for funds or partnership from strangers. Apart from your sibblings what of your uncles, aunties, inlaws and cousins? Well having an assisstant or "farm boy" as you call it is ok as long as you dont leave him unsupervised. More, the primary concern of someone on a thight budget is cost reduction. So employing a "farm boy" will add to your expenses. All the best sha.

If I feel my family or relative can do it am sure I won't have open this thread,I pray sumtin bad shld not happen to me oooo,but that wen u will no u av family,within 1 week they can raise 500k if is an emergency case,but in the case of empowering u,in my family is like all man for himself,so have tried my best nothing came out of it,even my YY fwends refuse to help,I av a cousin dat worth 50m like 2years ago,and we grew up 2geda but wen I ask him for help till now,u will kip hearing stories,so I just decided to open this thread,the most annoying thing is maybe after empowering urself and u need little help they might now assist so they can make mouth that they contributed to your wealth,Still hoping for miracle

yea you are somewhat right. Much of the budget for a grsscttr farm is swallowed by the land, animal house, stock and cages while feed is relatively cheap because it's sourced locally. Nonetheless, the start up capital is still high. Also bear in mind that as the farm grows cost of feed will increase substantially because grsscttrs eat a variety of food though grass is their base diet.

Like I said earlier if I want 20tonnes of brewery waste per week,I can get,so feeding is not the barrier the start up capital is the main tin,in ibadan I believe it easier to source for cassava peels n dry them,the only cost of feed I might incure is PKC,as for the grasscutter,they can feed on brewery waste n cassava peels as well with enough grass to feed on

lol my broda u wont understand till you actually start practicals. Animals are like children that need care and attention. They are sensitive to it. Rearing pigs or grsscttrs is not just about dumping their feed and going your way. Their living quaters needs to be cleaned, their feed has to be sourced on time, repairs will be made, unexpected circumstances will be addressed etc. In fact my animal house is like a time capsule. When i enter and come out hrs have gone by and i keep wondering how come. Anyway, i suggest you table the issue of funding before your relatives first before going public. Remember blood is thicker than water.

Yes you are right,but surely I will have a farm boy,I don't mind staying in ibadan as well,I receive lectures Saturdays n Sundays,so I will only be in lag by weekends,the issue of feeding I have a sure source which make tinz easier,Like the issue of Family,it a long story,my Brothers are well to do,but it just seems as if all man for himself,I even help my bro wife to establish her farm 1 acre promising after the project I will also start my own piggery farm as well,but at the end I was just being use and dump,if u reach the farm now u will see the 30tonnes of dagbolu sand,1500blocks 10tonnes of gravel n 5tonnes of granite wasting on d site,after she finish her own poultry house that wen she told me she don't want piggery house on her farm again after wasting my time and man power,but atleast I gain a little,knowing what is entails to start a farm and I use the opportunity visiting diff farms my bro av wasted so much resources to buy all the necessary material,my bro can't do anytin behind his wife,so I just left there house wen they don't have any plans 4me,so my bro it good to struggle on your own than to rely on any blood

I read somewhere after the initial investment of housing and buying breeding stock, grass cutters are quite cheap to rear. Piggery I know for sure needs a lot of capital and time.

Yes boss like I said it need capital n time,the capital aspect is been taking care of,cos I have were to get cheap or free feed,I don't have to wait for 2years b4 making profit if I combine it with fattening,what I just need now is capital for both housing n land

You are right about that,but am planning to do both breeding and fattening aspect,if you have 30 weaners in less than 7months you sell them off,d skul, aspect piggery is not like poultry were the owner must be present always,in piggery all u need is availability of feed n water so it not compulsory I must be there always,and am entitle to 10tonnes of brewery waste per week cos the person incharge of brewery waste in ibadan is like my uncle,they do dispose like 30tonnes weekly so for a start 10tonnes is okay per week,so feeding shld b problem,so I don't have to wait for 2years b4 I start earning profit

Many guys have added me on fb cos av contributed on different forum about pigs,but to there surprise after calling me to seek diff opinion about pigs,the next tin they will ask is were is ur farm sir,but to there surprise I will tell them I don't have a farm,so I just don't want to have such ideas n still be suffering like dis,if u feel u wish to test my ability u can add or request for my number so we can talk 1 on 1,some pipu will say u can start earning profit after 2years,but am planing to earning profit from my 1st year,if I can get just 6 gilt n a male,with 30weaners cos I have access to more or like free feeds,and am start with exotic breeds,under 7 to 8months I should able to achieve 70 to 80kg,I notice in all live stocks feeding takes like 70 to 75percent of your profit,and I believe I can cut my own expenses to like 40percent cos of labour n transportation cost,I went to a farm around ibafo side,they achieve up to 130kg less dan a year,and they feed there pigs strictly with pkc n cassava peel,they even told me 1 of there pigs have weigh 220kg b4,so Breeds matter most in pigs,most pipu rear mix breed I.e local+exotic at the end they hardly weigh 60k in 8months,I do go to oke aro pig farm,come and see agent sourcing for pigs to buy,they do buy up to 120pigs at a go,out lagos they don't mind the distance they buy at rate of 280 per kg while in lagos it 290,so we have large market for pigs even if u have up to 1000 they will buy it within a month,so for those people asking if there is market for it,u don't even have to advertise they will keep cumn to your farm begging u to sell for them,atleast they do slaughter up to 50pigs or more at oke aro per day just imagine in a months some farmers do feel reluctant to sell,so they won't go and sell there breeders

Boss as an undergraduate u no say graduate never see job finish not to talk of us,just don't want to be idle or wasted cos time is money,concerning the capital,my mum promise me 200k only if she is convince that I have diff support from else were so I won't just stuck in the middle

Yes boss part time student,lasu external campus,u no it very difficult to find a job,cos they count us as O level student cos no certificate to show 4 it,but if nairalander can connect me with a very gud job I don't mind cos I no am not lazy,I base in lagos don't mind working to raise the capital for this project

Thanks for your response,am not living in my own house or my dad house,so it very difficult to rear it in rented house,and again rear it on a farm land has numerous advantages,lastly like I said if am in ibadan I have access to unlimited brewery waste,so I guess ibadan is the best place
