please visit many pig farms so they can guide n counsel u,starting pig biz without proper knowledge might lead to total loss,many pig farmer are not making profit just becos they don't the right knowledge b4 venturing it,so I don't expect intending farmer of our time to make such mistake

brewery waste is not a must but is 1 of the cheapest feed for now,bread can replace maize perfectly,maize is no go area for now,inclusion rate for brewery shld not be more dan 30percent for fatteners den 60percent for breeders,u said you need a large white about to cross they are sumhw expensive buying them at that stage will get back to you if I get a reasonable price,but if you want to get yourself make sure is either large white or landrace,try n get quality

most farmers don't like selling there growers and it always expensive will advice to go for weaners but if u insist on getting growers or weaners ,then message me on whatsap,i can ask from my members,is the growers for breeding or fattening? How many male n females do u want

wen fattening brewery waste can be use 30percent for fattening but can be use 60percent for breeders cos of high content in fiber I doubt if u can get dried chicken intestine if you can meet any chicken processor den get in large quantity n smoke dry it,or cook n add to there feed

UWC u can also try gnc n pkc,then u can totally reduce the percentage of soya cos it expensive if you can get gala waste as well is a good substitute to soya meal,ugu stem as well,once you perfected there growth rate at weaners stage once they reach grower stage they will convert easily

not necessary but u can reduce the quantity of soya for Pkc or reduce the quantity of either corn or cassava chips cos both soya n corn are expensive this days

it depends on the quantity you want but strictly for breeding purpose 1 of them will cost u 25k can't guarantee u how long the stock we last cos na popular demand,u can cross breed the female with landrace or large whiteboar or use the boar to cross breed LW or LR ,then fattening there offspring with good feed and management I can guarantee u 80kg in 7 months or less

lagbaja: I am into pig farming. Pig farming is one of the most lucrative arms of animal farming. Pigs are highly prolific, giving birth to an average of 10 piglets per farrow. Typically a pig farrows 2.5 times in a year. So in a year, a pig can give birth to about 25 piglets.

The biggest variable cost component in pig farming is feed cost. It accounts for about 70h% of the total cost. Your ability to source your feed in a manner that is most cost effective is your success determinant. Typically, pigs have FCR in the range between 2 and 4 depending on the breed and on the feed formulation. FCR means feed conversion ratio. It is a measure of how much kg of feed an animal will eat to produce 1kg of live weight.

This the is formula I adopt for my pigs

60% of cassava ( I buy them Fresh, break them into chips, dry and store them)
30% pkc
6% blood meal
2.5%. Oyster shell/bone meal/ lime stone
0.25% lysine
0.25% methionine
0.5% salt
0.25% premix
0.25% bakers Yeast ( probiotic)

The above feed formulation will cost you about N30 per kilo. 1kg of live pig is sold for between N280 and N300. If your pig consumes 3kg of feed to give 1 kg of meat, It means that it will cost you N90 to produce 1kg of live weight. Therefore you make a gross margin of N300 - N90= N210.

The other component of pig farming that is capital intensive is their housing. Pig housing has to be properly planed according to the number of pigs you intend to grow. You need to decide whether you want to do batch or continuos pig production.

The biggest pig farm in west Africa is at oke aro , Agege. Another one is at Gberigbe Ikorodu. Accomodation costs at this locations are very high. I will advice you to site your pig pen close to where you can get cheap land and source raw materials at low price. Eg cassava plantations.

Technology application will greatly hep you in your pig farming. Fr example using, pig ni.ppl.es (see picture below) will ensure that you deliver constant and clean water to your pigs , it will also reduce labor requirements. You also need to construct a manure allay within your pig house so that when they poo poo, you can flush it away via the manure allay ( the manure allay is like a gutter).

Please @ Lagbaja please how many ton of food can use to feed 100pigs in stage by stage every month eg
Weaners how many ton monthly
Growers how many ton monthly and
The last stage as well thanks

I hope this will help so times it per 30days do the calculation yourself,and with the above broadcast u send,try and calculate the cost of the feed u will use per KG

I use PKC and add some blood meal to it from abattoir. As per the enzymes you mentioned, wont that come naturally from the protein? I have been using the other type, maybe I will switch to the pill that you mentioned. As for weaners, what type of composition would you recommend that is also cheap?

no fix price,it depends on the farmer so breeds matter most u don't expect large white breeds to be dsame price with a concoction breeds, a good weaners price starting from 5k grower like 8k upward while breeder stock are more expensive

my advice to you is to get train,nobody can teach u such on a plat form,even the guru in house barely use it,but I can encourage us to embrace it,guess 2 dose cost 5000,cos u will need to inseminate your sow or gilt twice,you can get the fluid in IB, and you must atleast 8 to 10 gilt or sow that must come on heat at once b4 you can buy cos they don't sell in small quality minimum order will be from 8 upward,or beta still get a superior boar to mate your animal

Ok thanks. But which is richer, cassava pills and cassava shaft (that left over when sieving the soft cassava. Yoruba call it paki) I mix it with pkc.

cassava peels is beta but both are good,hope you add enzymes to there feeds so as to Aid digestion,what other source of protein do u use cos Pkc has more fiber so there shld be other source of protein

There is a place in Benue Nigeria where they rear pigs openly meaning the pigs are free to roam about, the pigs roam about and eat everything they see like grasses, grains even the people there digs holes outside their houses where children defecate (shit) so that pigs can eat it, Pigs are just everywhere and are big in size people only inject them sometimes, so I came up with the idea of selling these pigs to the eastern and western part of Nigeria where pigs don't roam the streets, cos the pigs here are very very cheap.

such practice are the reason y some people detest from eating pigs,such practice is bad,they will be highly infected with disease s, can't advice you to throw them away,house them in a big rooms,place them on antibiotics with the help of a Vet then after 21 days after treatment then u can sell them,or search for cotonou buyers,so far it bulk they will buy all at once with a good price like 320 per kg or even 350

cassava peels but try sundry dem or bag them in a sack for 3days or more b4 giving them,if u can get potato peels as well or add plantain peels to there diet

I did my IT @ a big farm in abuja, their piggery section is handsomely big, yet they could not meet up with demand in abuja & some parts of nassarawa. well I had a 300 capacity sty about 2 yearsagfo and it's still existing in Baruwa ipaja lagos and I rarely sold above 220 per kilo, in my over 10 years of rearing I havehad very large pigs and none ever weighed above 140 kg so I don't think it's very wise to rear a pig beyond 2 years if you are not breeding with it and then mathematically speaking a pig will have to weigh 200 kilos at 250 per kilo to go for 50k.. I hope I am wrong so I can go back to pig farming though

bro pig biz is lucrative but it involve patience n tym,official price is 350 per kilo but it can sky rocket to 500 soon,most pipu venture into piggery by not going for proper training that one of the reason y they don't make profit most pipu rear local or concoction breeds,which can't attain 70kg in 8months,that just 1 of the reason why some will say it not profitable, some will sell there weaners 3500 some will sell 8000 while some will sell 12k some will sell 20k some will sell 45k for just weaners alone,so tell me among them who will make more money? So b4 u venture into any biz make sure u get trained n av a good mentor,cos foundation rili Mata in any biz no Mata how u feed a local chicken or cockcrel it can't attain a weight of broiler chicken

I say it because I know the amount pigs were sold later two years less we talk about this year...am also am an animal scientist so I know what am saying.... this case is delicate,u can find foster mother,or make a collostrum milk for them,feed the sow with a lot of moringa leaf n unripe pawpaw,try massage her breast as well
