Have you admitted the "wobbling n fumbling" goof you made? you can read can't you? Vermaelen is EA SPORTS Player of the Month!
Thomas Vermaelen has secured a little piece of history.
The Belgian defender was named the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for August and has now scooped the September prize too. It's the first time a new signing has achieved that particular Arsenal 'double'.
And you can hardly blame the fans for picking Thomas again. The 23-year-old was outstanding in defence during September and got forward to net FOUR times and race to the top of Arsenal's scoring charts.
Thomas tapped in from close range at Standard Liege and scored twice - including one spectacular effort - as Wigan were beaten at Emirates Stadium.
The Belgian contributed to a clean sheet in that game and helped keep Fulham and Olympiacos at bay before ending September in style with a venomous 25-yard strike against Blackburn.
Thomas received 39.4 per cent of the votes cast - an improvement on his August share. Vito Mannone, so impressive in goal last month, was second with 19.5 per cent of the vote, just ahead of Robin van Persie. Fabregas – Why I'm a big fan of Vermaelen
Cesc Fabregas is not surprised that Thomas Vermaelen is already a big hit with the Arsenal fans.
The Belgian defender has followed up his EA SPORTS Arsenal.com Player of the Month award for August by winning the September prize - the first time a new Arsenal signing has pulled off that particular double.
Vermaelen has been an obvious choice for the Club's official award after a flying start to his career in English football. The 23-year-old has added steel to the Arsenal defence but has exceeded all expectations by getting forward to net five times and top the Gunners' scoring charts.
Vermaelen is already being lauded as one of Arsène Wenger's most astute signings and Arsenal's captain can see why the centre back has earned the fans' seal of approval.
"I’m a big fan of him. He’s been doing so well," said Fabregas at the launch of Nike's CTR360 Boot at the start of the month.
"It’s difficult in this position, especially from centre back because you will always be compared to some other players, or if you know that your defence is one of your weaknesses then you have to do even better to be loved by the people, and I think the fans clicked straight away with him since his first game.
"He scored a goal [in his first game at Everton], played amazing, his confidence is high at the moment. And with the ball he’s really good. He’s like one more midfielder.
"These days, to have a centre back that can play, you know, these balls on the ground, between the lines, and past players, for players like me in midfield it’s really good because it gives you so much time and so much space on the ball. It’s really good.
"The way he is playing I don't think he needs any advice [from me]. I am sure he is a very strong guy with a strong mentality. You can see he has been a captain before because he is strong and he knows how to lead a team." oops! i goofed on the james peters quote see unlike you i swallow my pride and admit it when i goof. |

Despite the challenges of early life, Akwuegbu is among the luckiest players of his generation. He explained that Sebastian Brodricks, Nigeria’s former Under-17 coach "literally picked me while I was in secondary school, in form two, at St. Murumba College, Jos. I was in that class in my school when I was picked to play for the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams at the same time. I consider myself to be a very lucky player and I thank God for playing in the Under-17 and Under-20 for Nigeria." He said because of his relatively young age, the country’s Under-17 coach wanted to reserve him for the next set of the Eaglets, the 1991 squad, but Brodricks drafted him into the 1989 team when he discovered his enormous value and quality. James Peters, the Under-20 coach, also found him good enough and he did not hesitate to include him in his squad to the African Youth Championship, AYC, in Mauritius in 1993. The Under-20 team had other future stars like Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Okocha, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, and a host of others.

https://cache.images.soccerway.com/new/teams/150x150/660.gif vs https://cache.images.soccerway.com/new/teams/150x150/669.gifArsenal go into this tie on the heels of a 6-2 home victory over Blackburn rovers, and the international break. With the players back (with no injuries, save for Eduardo), AW is most likely going to field the same squad that took blackburn rovers to the cleaners, so the red and white army looks set to continue their impressive run against birminham city (p 10,W6,D3,L1). the red and white army do not have any suspended player. Birminham city visit the emirates on the heels of a 2-1 loss to Burnley, and face the worst opposition possible having picked just 2 points in 5 visits to both highbury and the emirates, conceding 7 goals and scoring only 1. it'll be an home coming of some sort for Sebastian Larsson who happens to be a product of the academy. any predictions? |

3. Kanu was in the unsuccessful Nigerian Under-20 squad to Mauritius 1993 It was while at Iwuanyanwu that legendary Segun Odegbami drew Nigerians attention to the phenomenon called Kanu after watching him play in 1992 in a match between Iwuanyanwu and 3SC of Ibadan. But it took some time before other Nigerians saw what Odegbami saw in Kanu. When Nigeria was preparing for the 1993 African Youth Championship (AYC) scheduled to hold in Mauritius, then Super Eagles technical adviser, Dutchman Clemence Westerhoff, noticed Kanu's promise and invited then Junior Eagles coach, James Peters, to pick the boy in his team. Peters, who perhaps felt Westerhoff was interfering in his duties, tactically took him to Mauritius and kept Kanu on the bench until Nigeria crashed out of the tourney after falling to the superior fire power of Ghana and Cameroon. @ ~sharon~ & dayo "the bayern monkey" kanu I hope you boys know know it might interest you that Kanu also played for the super eagles in a friendly against sweden before USA 94 (can't remember the exact date). dayokanu: ^^ Hello, He plays for freaking Denmark
Tell us who are the international players from Arsenal Clichy, Diaby, Upson, Denilson, Bothroyd, Sidwell or Owusu Abeyie slow down, take a minute to listen to yourself! the fact that the plays for denmark makes it more remarkable, especially when the likes of CR9 and messi are hoping for a miracle. |
