The truth is that core medical professionals are primarily the doctors as head of the team, nurses and pharmacists! Many people think the fight is all about being the CMD,but it's much more than that! It means that the doctor looses that role as head of the team and the nurse can choose to discard his treatment plan , contest the plan and criticise the plan! And that is not possible because the nurse (whether consultant or not) does not have the skill set and was not trained to do that!

Secondly the nurse should not assume that she carries the same burden of treatment the doctor carries! She is there to assist the doctor in his work and not vice versa!

Thirdly , in 90% of malpractice claims the doctor is the only liable personnel and the nurse as long as she changed the patients bedspread is free! Therefore the doctor is far more responsible for the patient than any nurse!

The volume of training a doctor is subjected to prepares him for the leadership burden placed on him and that cannot be said for the nurses!

JOHESU proponents are quick to show us a utube video of a consultant med lab guy in the UK ! And that shows the level of their ignorance ! The guy is just a pro at operating test machines and has nothing to do with patient care!
In his own words he advises his follow lab guys the best way to perform tests! He has practically nothing to do with patient care!

The problem is not the term consultant but JOHESU guys want to bastardize the highest medical title available in Nigeria by propagating it up to the cleaner e.g consultant environmental officer! Just because the want to feel the prestige but they do not understand the pain to get there!

Why don't they look for another term e.g queen nursing officer, or superior pharmacist why do you want to plagiarize the consultant tab!

I know that doctors ESP consultants carry themselves like Gods in hospitals but they have earned it! 12 years of being surbordinate to some jerks is not a joke!

Let JOHESU guys prove themselves this week and show us whether they can run the hospitals without us!!

Consultant gateman, consultant gardener , consultant ward maid, consultant !!,Lolololol

bumfem: I am kept aback at the shallow level of intelligence most physicians demonstrate in their post in here. I was expecting a better argument. Their presentations are misdirected. That somebody should go back to write JAMB is definitely not intelligent way of driving home a point. We are all professionals and very proud of it too.

I got lots of friends in medicine, pharmacy, dentisry, medical rehabilitation(physiotherapy), nursing,,, when in health sciences in OAU. They are all very brilliant and exceptional. That somebody read nursing bc is not good enough in most cases is fallacy of overgeneralization. I was the best in my secondary schl finals and was the best in physiology in our MB1 in ife yet i was not in medicine. Today I make more money than many of my physician friends bc of my chosen career. None of them would ever tell me that i didn't read medicine bc i was not good enough bc they know that is not the case.

Everybod should be happy at what he is doing to care for ur patient. Never make money a priority. Care for others ought to be a calling.

NMA is traveling up hill in this matter. So much energy shall be spent on little achievement. No one can drive against global norm and win.

Eeyah see pain oh ! You embody the perfect JOHESU member they keep on ranting I was the best in this I was the best in that! If you were not a medical student how did you take the mb1 exams! Or are you saying you we're the best in physiology but you failed biochem and anatomy and you were booted out of the course to the lesser ones??

And the fact that you can boast that you earn more than a doctor is where the trouble is!
In no country in the world is the doctors hazard allowance the paltry 5000 naira that it is here!but doctors have soldiered on! Yet when we take a small break for our JOHESU consultants to prove their mettle , there is noise and the insults are more than that of Steven keshi !

If JOHESU is as important as they claim the hospital should not have a glitch when the doctors take a break!and let me remind you ! Doctors who run private practices usually do not have so many of these extras in their clinics but they still save lives ! I guess the consultant pharmacist( LOL) should take up all my planned surgeries for the week!

I actually need a break ! Residency is hell and with the paltry pay! Make I go try that new dominoes pizza jare and some ice cream! Time to splurge!

YourHealthlabs: Let me sound a note of warning. If the FG compromises on the agreement it has with JOHESU. How can a non-labour group go on strike just to stop a group of people from reaching the peak of their careers.

JOHESU which comprises of 85% of health professional and workers will also withdraw their services.

Pharmacists through PSN will shut down all hospital pharmacies, they also have the power to declare closures in Idumota.

Nurses won't touch any patient in the hospital ward, patients with burns or catheter will have to make do with the skeletal services that Almighty doctors can offer.

Scientists will shut their blood-banks, people in casualty and emergency wards have died because of this. We once learnt about the CMD of UBTH that tried running lab procedures but ended up spilling the blood samples and killing patients.

Physiotherapists won't offer their services to rheumatic patients in the physical therapy department. They'll have to be in pains till JOHESU resumes.

The effects will be worse than this, but i'll stop here.

Every professional in the health sector is a distinct professional, on group seeking to control the professional growth of other enlightened professionals WON'T WORK.

Please refer to past rare JOHESU strikes and understand the effects.

When the hospitals close down when JOHESU goes on strike , the patients will come pouring into private practices where doctors are kings!!

TechRev:

You are right in this you function without me. Cause what do you have to do with an engineer??
But you guys are killers!!!!

Who wins?? you guys or Bokoharam?? Doctors are The only group that increase their pay by killing and spilling innocent blood!!!

It's funny when JOHESU goes on strike they are being marginalized ! But when doctors flip the coin we are boko haram!
Ask relevant questions
1. Who does the most work both physically and mentally in an hospital?
2. Whose qualification based on skill , years of study and general rigor is the highest in the hospital?
3. Which personnel in the hospital goes through the longest training periods?
4. Which personnel in the hospital is the most essential for the name hospital to receive credibility ?
5. Who places the patient first in most hospitals?
6. Who works the longest hours in Nigerian hospitals?
7. Who is paid lowest when compared with international standards and yet is not allowed to complain via the only means our national govt listens?

When you answer those questions ask yourself these also
1. When my child grows up do I want him to aspire to be a doctor or a med lab scientist based on the impact he will have in the society
2. If the guys in JOHESU are right then the hospital should not be grounded when the doctors go on strike?
3. Who do I want to have the final say on what happens in an hospital. A doctor who trained for 12 years and a nurse who trains for 5 years?or a medlar scientist who trains for at most 4 years?

lurvy: Its very unfortunate that people who took an oath to save lives are now involved in politicking for ridiculous reasons!

I think those leading the NMA are leading the doctors in the wrong direction and should be called to order.

It would have been better if doctors are striking for more money, but rather striking for flimsy reasons like... "I spent a long time in the medical school, I should always be the BOSS in the hospital ", "Nobody except doctors should be bear the title- CONSULTANT, etc... all these are uncalled for!

Everyone in the hospital is important, no matter what (even the cleaners).

Everyone should be more concerned about doing what he/she was employed to do in the first place!

Everyone is supposed to work together for unity, everyone is virtually important!

Nobody should say Mr. A. is not important or Mr. B. is not important, that's gross!

I wonder when doctors began taking so much interest in a title rather than in research work!

Please if there is any good and strong reason given by the doctors for the strike, then please educate me, aside that I think the strike is ridiculous and TOTALLY uncalled for!

There is no medical system, in the world that reduces the doctor to equal votes with med lab scientists and nurses! Infact in every medical system including the British NHS people are rife to quote, doctors have a veto on all hospital decisions and the doctor comes first.

Medical training in Nigeria is built on the foundation of " the doctor is the head of the team". I heard that statement even from matrons throughout my med school years!

The NMA's stand is supported by almost 99 percent of doctors in Nigeria ! People viewing from the pages of newspapers are giving the false impression that JOHESU are a group of oppressed individuals ,which is totally false! They actually are very insubordinate , troublesome and contribute to more than 70% of the lag in hospitals! Just ask how long patients queue to get there FBC's at most major hospitals or the crowds you find at the radiography sections of hospitals!

The fact remains that the doctor is the primary person a patient comes to see in an hospital ! If not why don't pharmacists open their own clinics and give diagnosis!

Medicine and Dentistry still remains one of the best thought courses in Nigerian universities and receives the best students from all over the country.that cannot be said for any course under the JOHESU group

The fact remains that it's because govt is the major player in the medical economy! Once hospitals begin the privatization process we would know who is in charge NMA or JOHESU

And the strike ( though a selfish reason) will only affect the poor and JOHESU members because hospital traffic would be redirected to private clinics where a lot of JOHESU members work for peanuts to buffer their govt pay! And guess what !who owns these places ? Doctors!

And according to your argument , when you go for your next hospital assignment please ask to see the cleaner!!!!

Good plan but a few things should come into focus 1. Investors in such projects cannot all come from the north for the project to be successful
2.the north has eroded all trust the southerners had in investing in their projects due to book haram and the usual religious intolerance
3. It may end up being bought up by northern money launderers
4. This will lead to this cities being ghost towns except the almajiris are allowed to leave in them free of charge
5.which makes the project another white elephant project!
