Mr man just keep quiet if you can't comprehend and stop making a fool of yourself. Greatness is synonymous with exploits. What are okochas exploits that make him rank among the greatest. Give me hard facts.

Is it not the same Pele that believes that neymar is better than messi and predicted that an african country will win the world cup before 2010.lets leave what Pele thinks and give me concrete arguments

You don't even understand the crux of the matter before running your mouth and attacking me making noise like a machine for grinding pepper.Okochas quality is not in doubt and i have not questioned it in any way.he would be a welcome addition to any topside.

What I have been trying to drum into your senile brain is that he shied away from the path to greatness by having other intrrests that were antithetic to the road less travelled.

For crying out loud we are talking about a player who had the skills and precensce of mind to humiliate Oliver khan and about four defenders in the goal area before deciding to score even though he had the chance. Entertaining but not purposeful. It was late in his career that his game evolved and he was phenomenal at Bolton and by that time age had caught up with him.

Stop trying to claim one arcane knowledge on a subject as simple as simple as a club desiring or being offered a good player by an agent and choosing to sign him after some negotiations as regards his value among other things. Oga go and sit down somewhere if you no get point.

Guy reading your arguement gave me some hope for nairaland!

Investment / Re: Which Bank Is The Best To Bank With In Nigeria? by Tbamo(m): 8:43pm On Oct 06, 2014
Last year towards the end of my youth service,we needed a statement of account to process our passing out. I went to the bank forcefully imposed on me by my local NYSC Oga (ecobank).
The lady in charge told me I had to pay 600 naira into the acc, which I responded that the acc still had abt 5k in it she just ignored me so I was forced to pay into the acc. That turned out to be the least of my sorrows that day.
After paying and filling the forms offered she suddenly came up and said my signature did not tally.
She gave me a sheet of paper and made me sign like 50 times! I kept begging her to let see the reference signature bit she declined. I then showed her my other identification cards including my international passport but she still declined
I left and came back the next day and was put through the same paces. By this time I was frustrated and started threatening them, until I was joined by other corp members.
The branch manager finally agreed to show me the reference signature! To my amazement, what was missing was a dot I add which was on the new signatures but was faint on the one on their computer due to their own scanners resolution! Out of anger I forced other corp members to look at the difference
Thankfully a retired justice was I'm the banking hall, who rebuked them and threatened to take it up before I was finally given my acc statements ( it's the ikwerre road branch I'm PH city)

I don't want to conclude that you're a quack, product of many extra years. Sometimes when I read comments on nairaland I am bothered, but no longer! My greatest hope is that nairaland does not represent the feelings on the street!

Most people on nairaland come from the middle class and upper middle class! This makes up just 40% of our population! This therefore makes nairaland a voice for the middle class!

Now this is why I worry! If the voice of the middle class is one that says " f**k the doctors", or Nigerian doctors are poorly trained, it means the intellectual capacities of members of the middle class is very low!
That means the federal universities, of which most members of the middle class hold certificates, have been churning out rubbish!

What has kept the medical situation in nigeria sane,is the fact that the sorting process for choosing doctors still remain very stringent in at least the school I attended ( university of Ibadan). The cutoffs for MBBS/BDS are usually one of the highest in Nigerian universities.

Now your govt has sacked 16000 of some of the smartest Nigerians and you via racial and religious sentiments celebrate that govt, it only shows something is wrong with you!

Ninety percent of accident victims are treated as first responders in nigeria by resident doctors!
What the govt has done can be likened to what God did to Egypt by killing all the first born in the system! It can be likened to only anarchy.

Before you make a comment ask yourself,

1. as any member of my family ever had the cause to have a surgical procedure done?

2.has any member of your family ever been in an accident?

3. Have you ever sought medical opinion?

4. Have the doctors at least tried their best when you have needed them?

5.could the doctors be actually suffering in this country?

I confess I am a doctor and I have had to leave the country to work somewhere in Africa! I am treated like a king and in a few months the difference btw me and my other African colleagues is clear! The two of us Nigerians are miles ahead in patient care, knowledge and almost everything,we are only disadvantaged when we face french patients.so I put it out there - Nigerian doctors are the some of the best you can get in africa!

Your govt was foolish to sack them!!!

Rant ended!

People often say doctors are proud, egoistic etc. I am a trained Nigerian doctor, and a lot of our training is about patient management and respect.

Before this strike began the general consensus, the public had was that nurses were terrible people, never ones did I ever read on nairaLand that doctors were terrible until this strike!

I have noticed that nairaLand reflects the true state of Nigerian education, because people can't simply analyse a situation and determine it's long term effects

1.How can you sack doctors during an epidemic?
2.How can you increase the already poor doctor patient ratio from 1:6400 to 1:650000. When the WHO limit is 1:600?
3.those who have enacted this law where do they get treated?
4.what will happen when specialist don't get trained anymore?
5. If it's a negotiating tactic does the goat think doctors are dafter than all the other trade unions it has had problems with? Do you think they will not see through the ploy and stand their ground?
Would you not create a monopoly with the current consultants who will now cater only to the rich who can afford them?
6. If I'm the average Nigerian how does this affect me?
7. Will a locum doctor be as motivated to treat me when compared to a resident who is striving to please his senior colleagues?
8. Would doctor brain drain not only increase?

Please answer this questions before shouting like a park tout on nairaLand!

For the most beautiful cities in this part of the world, come to Ghana! We've got a world-class capital in Accra, and smart and liveable cities like Kumasi, Cape Coast, and Tamale.

Remember, unlike Nigeria, Ghana is 100% Ebola-free.

Ghana is one of the few countries that are capable of redeeming Africa's image and reputation to the world.

I know a mall is being built and should be completed before the end of the year beside govt house, but before that time nothing in PH can compare to that ( and note that's the smallest of the four different malls in Ibadan).

His definitions are covered within the hospitals. Are there any other lab scientists working in the hospitals apart from MLS? No.

But within the hospitals staff are divided into medical and allied medical staff
Medical staff are the doctors
Allied medical staff are nurses, pharmacist, physiotherapists etc
Non medical staff are the cleaners, accountants, gatemen etc
What we have in nigeria is a conglomerate of both allied and non medical staff for a superiority fight with the medical staff in a hospital.

Allah causes whomsoever He wills to stray in error, and sets whomsoever He wills on the straight way.
Al-Qur'an 6 verse 39

Jazakum llahu khairan

According to your quote of the quran we can deduce that it is Allah causing the BK boys to bomb innocent people.
This therefore negates man's free will since its Allah that controls us to do what he likes.
Therefore it is Allah that is bombing people.

Jogbojogbo: We always put blame on government! We have forgotten that, govt. put somebody there to do the needful.
The CMD's in charge of various hospitals should use their IGR to provide some basic instruments & equipment for the use
of the workers instead of using the money for frivolous things, things that are irrelevant to the diagnosis & treatment
Of the patients they are to look after, & that is why some people will capitalise on this to exploit patients. Therefore, the born to rule administrators (the Docs)
who are suppose to know the importance of having these instruments & equipment should use their IGR to buy them. Chikena!
They are incharge as CMDs & they should run it well.

I like the igr argument but until you find out how much it costs to run a hospital you will find out the hospitals are poorly funded.

If we privatise the hospitals like we are agitating many of these johesu fighters would be without jobs.the only job in the hospital that cannot be replaced by a computer for most part is the doctor and the nurse.
Even the pharmacist would be redundant.

The hospital has been the only sector in the Nigerian economy with a semblance of sanity but the evil spirits disturbing Naija have found some loop hole to spread discord ( the black man's crave for another man's pride).

prettyprettywow: but things are already changing, that is why we are having this strike by Drs. They want to maintain the status quo. I don't have to be frustrated because I am not even in Nigeria, So neither the strike nor the policies is directly affecting me. But It pains me when I know we can do better than we are already doing, haven seen how things are being done in sane countries. I just want to see the needed change in my dear country Nigeria. Advocating for what I believe in should't be sin. And yes, we agree that the best man should head our health institutions

It's very interesting when you say you are outside nigeria. I challenge you to mention the country where you work where the doctor is equal to any other hospital worker?

Even in the worst of places ( somalia) and the best of places (Scandinavia) the doctor is the leader.

Now to the original topic. When I was an house officer the greatest hospital in nigeria ( so I don't get anybody in trouble) kept appealing to govt to procure drills for orthopaedics and OMS departments. But after repeated appeals and no forthcoming response, with a large backlog of surgeries that could not be carried out, real consultants put some money together and purchased a drill. The patients were informed abt the situation and we're told to pay a token for the maintenance of the privately sourced drill. They were also properly informed about how the drill was sourced.

A lot of patients were quick to respond and paid for the drill. And I remember that the policy was that for every 5 paid cases 1 was carried out pro bono.
Now was it wrong what the doctors were doing?

GentleMimi: Sai! Patient's perspective indeed.
I weep for this couyntry. I've followed this strike ish for quite some time, even had a debate with some colleagues.
I read an article online abt the requests of the doctors. Nobody is disputing it. They want increase in hazard allowance to N100,000 per month, and some other things too. That is fine by us. But for NMA to boldly come out, stating it will not condone ''blackmail'' by health workers is so annoying. How does the title of ''Consultant'' result to blackmail? Is it something that has never been done before? Is it strange in other countries? Why are the doctors hell bent on being an obstacle to the progress of other health workers?
Now,back to the issue of consultant, let it be known that there are conditions attatched to the title. Medical scientists, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists attain educational level of Phd in their profession.
For example,a medical scientist specializes in haematology in masters and Phd level, obtains his fellows and satisfies all requirements by the MLSCN council. Why should such a fellow with vast knowledge in haematology not be allowed to consult with the patient and the patient's doctor on matters relating to haematological matters? It irks when i read some comments here.
In terms of salary, lets have a rethink. For example,as an intern,a scientist earns N120K, a doctor/house officer earns N170K-N180. Now JOHESU requests for an increase, relative to CONMESS scale....N150/160k. Why NMA wan come get HBP on top the matter? All JOHESU is asking for is a relative increase. Peeps who are shouting abt job the rigors of the medical duty should not undermine what other health workers go through. Being on call in haematology laboratory in a teaching hospital is like being on a rollercoaster!
It is the same time too. So what is wrong abt JOHESU requesting for shift duty/call duty allowance and other special allowance.
As an intern, hazard allowance was a mere N10k. What d hell! We handle body fluids too and get exposed to all the vile things running amok.
Those who want privatization of other health sectors are living in a fool's paradise. Who can afford it? Services in the health sector is highly subsidized, but still expensive for certain peeps.
Privatization will only make things worse.
And for the skipping of a thing, why are doctors against skipping when they are doing it? They skip from 10 to 12,we want a skip from 9 to 11. Why dem wan get headache? Lol! *SMH*
finally,on the issue of CMD,i will state here boldly that i have no qualms with doctors being the CMDs. All we ask for is professional courtsey.
So you think a house officer and an intern in the lab or pharm intern do the same things or have the same responsibilities? And so should earn the same?
During your internship can you be sued for malpractice as a pharmacist?
What do you do during your calls?
How many life threatening cases do you engage as a pharmacy intern?
And you want to earn the same as the doctor?

Let me state that all health workers are important!!

But let's also state that importance is relative!
And their are always levels of importance !
So for ease of understanding I'm going to run parallels

Highest. Middle. Lowest
Doctor. Nurse Radiographer
Soldier. Civil defense. Boys scout
lawyer. Court clerk Paralegal
Professor. Teaching assistant. Lab technologist
Husband and wife. Children. House girl

Now all are important but responsibilities vary! For these responsibilities to be carried out there are specific requirements.
If you meet these requirements you can choose to take such. But if not , you have no business trying

I remember vividly during my internship in a fed teaching hsptl, some clinicians esp consultants would plead dt our most Senior chief in d dept (chief radiographer) should handle dia case. This is because he as good as knows it all as far as rdphy is concerned. If dis chief is made a consultant radiographer, l see no way it should be a problem to d gynaecologist, obstetrician, surgeon, etc because he consults in his own field nd doesn't interfere in others' fields. Likewise other professionals in other fields. lf d civil service law stipulates dt upon reaching level 15, one is entitled to become a director, how is dt suppose to be a problem to the docs. It's high time we saw ourselves as colleagues nd teammates in healthcare nd stop antagonising each osha. A basic med knowledge is dt d patient is d most important person in d hospital, let's consider dem 1st nd stop dis ego. thing

To your point even in law a SAN would have his favorite paralegal who he wants to type his brief for him!
I have my favorite nurses I like to work with because they understand me ! One of them is even called my wife because of our almost telepathic connection when working! But that does not make her more than what she is( an assistant)!

For him to now covet the doctors consultant title is funny ! He knows how to operate the X-ray machine better than most of his surbordinates but what else does he know! Can he differentiate between a normal chest Radiograph and a defective one ! The answer his a big NO! He his just a good radiographer!

There are experienced surgeons who have worked for years and can carry out certain procedures even consultants in the speciality would not touch but they don't and cannot because of their experience abrogate the title consultant to themselves!
The same way only lawyers can become SANS, lecturers can become Professors, so is the same way only doctors can become consultants in the medical fields!!
Shikena!!

For all. Non medical personnel viewing this post let me draw parallels for you so you can understand NMAs position

LAW: paralegals fight to become SANs! Because they have worked for so many years and no how to produce law Briefs better than most lawyers
ACCOUNTING : Clerks in major companies want to be viewed as chartered accountants because they know the company's books better than the accountant
EDUCATION: lab attendants want to become professors
ENGINEERING:mechanics refer to themselves as engineers based on the road side tutelage they have received

The fact is in every sector there is always the pinnacle of the sector where a specific few who have certain qualities others lack have risen to! Most of these people are referred to as professional or are said to study professional courses in the university!

In any sane environment these distinctions help to create peace and a sense of duty! Even in the jungle a lion is a lion!

Consultants are referred to as Attendings in the USA! And I have never heard of an attending nurse or an attending pharmacist!

Why do you covet what has been nurtured and protected by doctors for years! The only reason a consultant is carried with prestige in the hospital is because all and sundry can see the pain he went through to get there!

JOHESU has bastardized the doctor tag with even the med lab guy referring to himself as a doctor ! So NMA says no to you further bastardizing our most esteemed title ! The consultant!

Find some other appellation e.g most superior nurse, the most powerful physio etc
Lollllolololo!'

pfijacobs: I'm a final year physiotherapist in the college of medicine university of lagos.. I stay in a room with 4 mbbs final year students amd I must say.. The bias to the oda sectors even @ an undergraduate level is too much. This goes to show that d level of moral decadence, prejudice and pride in these doctors is too much.. To get total and optimum medical care, u nid all aspects of the health team to contribute immensely and efficiently for d best medical performance. Imagine a stdt here telling us that they shud b given 2 man rooms dat d rest should go and look for somewhere else here.. Its outrageous.from d onset, dey believe dat dey are better and as such, prejudiced to ALWAYS be in top consideration for any form of medical consideration for profit only.. Der are physios who finished skuling before some consultants bought jamb form... There was even a day I was writing my clinical exam and I had my steth on and a.Dr friend was like 'dude go and pull dat steth jor and stop decieving people dat u r a doctor' I was like wtf? D steth is to check oscultations of d heart and not a title landmark for a Drs decoration. Enlightment is d key. They should go out.. See d way things are done outside and emulate d peace, serenity and cohesion dat exists between us as medical practitioners.. Its not our fault dat we are called doctors by d public. And very soon by the grace of God, wen the Doctors of physio, pharmacy bill are passed, and wen now started running d same 6 year parole wit dem, ehen dey will calm down.. But please let's strike for important tins.. Dis is a form of racism we so madly hate. Nobody likes to be trampled upon. So I dnt blame johesu. Make ur demands and don't counter anova person's own I'm not on anybody's side tho. I just feel I shud say dis...heck I even have an exam now sef....LONG LIVE. JOHESU!!! LONG LIVE NMA!!!! More patients, more money, more peace and prosperity... #united nigeria...

Dr.pfijacobs

The fact you assign an appellation you have not earned I.e ' doctor' to yourself lies the problem! All JOHESU,embers want to feel , earn, look, be addressed, and carry the respect that doctors have in the hospitals! But the fact remains NASU cannot become professors by a political solution! Therefore the only way to medical consultancy is by a medical residency program!
