ojeysky: Finally MPP is sending me a replacement board for my GK (the Comms panel was not the pro, it was the main board), but they are sending me 5kva instead.....guess they are out of stock on 3kva Boards, I screamed at them small sha.
However, I think it's blessing in disguise just that the blessing means more expenses for me as I need to now go 48v. I will be putting up some of my 24v backup LFP gears up for sale to anyone interested soon. Waiting anxiously for the highlighted |

ojeysky: I guess we are on the same page then, ultimately 2 breakers needs to be procured. Though I don't think it's necessary to connect them on a single pole, just put them separately and let them do their job. Will like to know the advantage in putting them together You are to connect them as individual circuit breakers then link them up with the cap as captured in the pix I posted. Linking them to function as dual circuit breaker will ensure that both breakers trip off instantly when the need arises. Thereby controlling the battery and PV side simultaneously and by extension keeping the charge controller off harms way. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by tchijioke: 11:24pm On May 05, 2020 |
ojeysky: This should work but current/voltage from panel to cc and cc to battery are not similar hence getting a suitably rated breaker may be a problem there. Just get the appropriate circuit breakers for the PV side as well as the battery side...then hook them up together to create the dual pole breaker as in the pix attached. These are two separate breakers hooked up as one.

terrymason: Have seen in various videos and setup where breakers/Fuse are put between panels and charger controller (Which is highly compulsory), but breakers in between batteries and charger controller are scary to me. Let say theirs a surge and the breaker between your battery and Cc tripped off and the one between the panel and CC is still on, what do you think will be the outcome of the CC in use.. ?
What's your input DIY Guru's, newbie and the house.... Use a dual pole circuit breaker...connect it such that the pv+ve cable goes through one pole to the cc...while the cc to battery +ve cable goes through the other pole to the battery. So when it trips, both poles trips with your charge controller properly shutting down. |

Solar Panels That Work at NightJeremy Munday, a professor in the electrical and computer engineering department of the University of California, Davis, recently appeared in the news for discovering a way to generate electricity from solar panels even after the sun has set. The professor and researcher have been working on a solar panel prototype which in its current phase of R & D can produce 50 watts of electricity per square meter, which is about a quarter of what traditional solar panels can generate during a bright sunny day... https://www.itsmysun.com/solar-panels-which-can-generate-electricity-at-night/ |

Systrom: Quick question on inverters
...So what’s actually the purpose of inverters? As either way, it’s costly and you end up losing The need for a more Comfortable life...people use Power Generators not because it comes cheaper than staying in total blackout awaiting PHCN to restore power supply...but they do so because they want to be in control of their life...but the truth is if you have used Generators as your source of power backup when you eventually use inverters and then solar ...its a promise your first "Temptation" will be to increase your power storage/ generating capacity...the next would be to sell off your Generator... |

eltolu: Hello All,
Is it possible to connect the AC output of an inverter (5KVA) to the AC input of a second inverter (1.5KVA)? Planning to do this to charge a second battery bank that does not have solar attached to it. Also, the second inverter and battery bank will power other isolated equipment.
What do you experts recommend? Its possible... Your major concern should be the capacity of your PV...ensure your PV output is enough to handle the additional load the 1.5kva inverter would require to charge the additional battery bank... Personally I have similar setup running without issues. |

Penuelseun: With the configuration, the panel output will be around 70v 30amps, if your cc mppt function come into play the you should get like 65amps at 14.4vdc which your controller cannot handle, going the 24v route is your best option now From the discussions and analysis, its now very clear to me that if I must use the 6 panels to achieve optimal throughput, then I must wait patiently till I upgrade to a 24v system. Warm regards |

earthrealm: Errrm..this might not be a good idea, using mppt and pwm cc on same bank, it would be worse if they r different makes. There are many cheap mppt cc in the market now. Like the powmr, about 70 dollars on AliExpress. You can get 2 units of that model...they would still be useful to you in the future...or u buy 2 ultra cheap pwm as well, if you insist on pwm cc Thanks |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by tchijioke: 1:50pm On Oct 20, 2019 |
dragnet: from the image you posted here, your CC can't accommodate more than two panels in series for your 12V system, you can't even go to three considering the voltage limit. So just forget all the permutations and combination till your system is 24V.
What you can do is to buy two cheap pwm, then split your panels into two groups, one for each pwm. Thanks |

Thanks for the technical support. With this configuration the output should be 48v 15.33amps...its within the controllers range... My other concern is that the controllers max watt for a 12v bank is 550watt, won't it be an issue since that is the only parameter that seems out of place. Thanks |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by tchijioke: 7:00pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
Penuelseun: I don't think your cc can handle the current that the panel can produce for a 12v system(about 60amp simultaneous current on a good day) How many batteries do you have by the way? You will be better off with a 24v system, but if you want to go ahead, you can go with a 2s3p configuration Pls @Penuelseun can you sketch a schematic of the 2s3p panel setup. Thanks in advance. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by tchijioke: 6:57pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
dragnet: If your system is 12V, then your only option is to parallel the batteries and same with the panels, the next question should be "all 3 batteries?" or "all six panels?". If I setup the 6 panels is parallel won't the current exceed the controllers 40amps max on a very sunny day. |

Topmost11: Six 200watts panels, three 200ah batteries. What sort of controller are your using?
From advise given me when I asked an almost similar question, if he has a mppt controller whose capacity can accommodate the load, cant he go series with the panels and push it into the 12v inverter. My only concern is will the panels take the three batteries home ie charge them to full. Alternatively, can he connect 4 of the panels and leave two in storage till he gets 24v inverter? But again, batteries will not be charged fully. The controller is 40 amps mppt |

I know a 24v system would do me a lot of good... But the challenge at the moment is getting a 24v inverter to replace the existing 12v...not yet ready for the expense. I just bought the panels and need some financial break before tackling the inverter upgrade head-on. Once again thanks, I sincerely appreciate your contribution. |
