Now that is part of the illiteracy I speak of...The honourable health minister will deploy scarce resources to where it is most needed, using the discretion of his core team..

Besides it is whether not weather...

Julietekekwe1:
True Federalism indeed. These are the reasons why we don't like Nigeria again. Weather we have it or not that is our own share give it to us.
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 1:41pm On Jan 20, 2016
I treat all people I work with, with respect.....I totally agree with you that no health worker is unimportant.. the bone of contention was the head of the medical team... stick with the facts bro..

This thread was also never about humility.. it's about Lassa and what is fundamentally wrong with the health system that has brought it to its knees.... u can't teach someone who stares death in the face everyday and knows it's not by power or might that (s)he is still alive humility... I learn that everyday from different cases I see...

AreaFada2:
What is JOHESU again? Is that another church in Nigeria? You know all funny things are possible in Nigeria. grin cheesy

Well, I had the opportunity to be with eminent physicians & surgeons. Some with the title "Sir" and "Lord" to their name. Some with Nobel Prize, and written medical & surgical books used across the world.

The greatest thing one learnt from them was not their amazing pharmacological, surgical, anatomical, research or pedagogical skills, but their humility despite such achievement that changed medicine as we now know it.

If an elderly man stands before you, he discovered drugs used to treat millions of people today, relieving symptoms, giving better QoL, prolonging lives & yet, he respects even the cleaners & care assistants as colleagues.
All people in hospitals do a good job. No one is unimportant. Without the cleaners, MRSA and other pathogens would be all over the wards.

Learn humility dude. cheesy grin

Better shut up and receive sense, who ever said it's all about lagos.... I am talking from my own point of view.... so shut that stinking beak...

InyinyaAgbaOku:
So, let Bulgari replicate what gej did with Ebola. Fed hospitals are in every state with all the manpower and infrastructure .
He can use Lagos if u think it's all about Lagos

After abuth and uduth, name another one... stop feeling smart by comparing apples and oranges.... you are the one who is not exposed here...

InyinyaAgbaOku:
How many fed hospitals in the south is better than ABUTH? And who told you federal hospitals in the north lack manpower and infrastructure? Have you gone there? You are not exposed. Smh

Pls stop playing PDP politics with Lassa Fever!

Shame on you..

francizy:
They rather tax you more, as a matter of fact, they have already started taxing us more by imposing #50 stamp duty on monies paid into our account, they are bringing back toll gates, they increased electricity tarrifs even as we wallow in darkness, etc. Nigerian government (especially this APC one) knows nothing other than tax, tax and more tax..

And the almighty Ebola was fought in the administration of the supposed "clueless" one.

What a shame..

I don't support APC, I support a better Nigeria where I don't have to emigrate to a 'better place'...

APC supporters be they doctors, professors have no brain for the bolded. tongue every state in the north has a federal hospital but how well equiped are they with infrastructure, with manpower, in terms of capacity building and health promotion..also how informed and health aware are the populace which the hospital serves.. I wouldn't even serve in the north even when I was offered almost 200k and free accomodation so many many years ago, most health care workers are concentrated in Lagos... studies and research has shown that.. so it's not about the hospital being federal.. it's about the capability of the hospital and the infrastructure and health care workers on ground
InyinyaAgbaOku:
Luth , where Ebola studies were carried out, is a FG hospital, and every state in the north has a federal hospital . So, what's your point?
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 7:42am On Jan 20, 2016
Emekamex:
-Stop spewing trash, this isn't the first epidemic of Lassa Fever that Nigeria has suffered before. Very correct, nowhere did I state otherwise
->What previous governments have always done was to contain the spread by quickly identifying patients and quarantining those that may have had close contacts with them. That is the right thing to do.. presently in Lagos, where I am stationed, contacts have been identified, contact tracing is going on, active case management is also ongoing
->The first thing that your health minister did was to play politics and blame the previous administrations without even trying to contain the spread. That's incorrect, I can authoritatively tell u that before he made that statement, work was ongoing, however I was a bit disappointed in that statement.. it was the truth but was ill-timed
->FYI Ebola didn't end in Lagos, it later found its way to Rivers State and was also contained by the previous government so you have no excuses to give. Yes, I agree EEOCs were set up in Lagos and Port-Harcourt cuz those were the hotspots.. Political will was necessary to curb ebola in both states and this was in abundance.. Amaechi and Fashola did very good work and I commend them both..
->The present administration acted late and seem not to have the zeal to vigorously quarantine suspected patients and also contain the spread. It is not easy to quarantine suspects in a disease that is endemic and not exotic... That's part of the problems s.leone and Liberia had..
->Lassa Fever is more predominant in the North not just because of poor health care but because that area is more susceptible to bush burning due to adverse dry weather and these destroys the habitats of the contagious rats who have no other choice than to scavenge for food in human settlements and homes thereby infecting them. Glad that you admit that a weak health system is one of the reasons it is more predominant.. nowhere did I say it was the only reason... wasn't writing an essay on why LF is more predominant in the north.. gave a reason that had to do with the context of the argument...
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 7:22am On Jan 20, 2016
He didn't correct me, u actually seem to both lack comprehension, the system he talked about that has consultant nurses which I have even asked him to check up cuz it was used in the wrong context is the US and what they have is surgeon general which is why I laid emphasis on that....

Nowhere in my statement did I say most countries use surgeon general. Pls read to comprehend. Thx
poseidon12:
Thanks for correcting @teamchocolate. I was disturbed by his claim that most countries don't have ministers of health but surgeon general. He was very wrong there.
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 7:20am On Jan 20, 2016
Hung up because that beef is part of what has destroyed the health system and makes lots of doctors leave the system leading to brain drain..If I take a list of medical graduates from the year 2000, more than half of my colleagues have left.. and more are leaving...leaving the health system worse off..

I am a Nigerian first before I am a doctor...thats why I will be 'hung up'
kindredspirit:
You Doctor guys must be really hung up on the beef between you and the JOHESU people. Look at the way you've gone gangsta and have started to cuss because you suspect somebody with a contrary view to yours is JOHESU. For the life of me, I don't know why y'all take this beef so personal, ever willing to lose your cool.

Please revert to the topic at hand and help us with informed perspectives on the way out of this LF scourge. Thank you.

You obviously don't work in a health system in Nigeria...
AreaFada2:
US is just one country. Even US has a Secretary of Health & Human Services. Current one is Sylvia Matthews Burwell.

UK, Eire, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, India and most commonwealth countries have one.

Surgeon-General is NOT minister of health, please don't mislead people. It's equivalent to Chief Medical Officer in UK. There is Chief Nursing Officer too.
I have even met both Liam & Sally, previous & Current CMOs.

HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 4:37am On Jan 20, 2016
You are obviously johesu! My advice to you is that you should go and read widely. The very pple who came up with this nonesense u have postulated are purely hypocritical...cuz when they wanted health care for their family, guess what? they insisted on a doctor's care.... Go and read up about this....

Consultant nurse kor, consultant cleaner ni... pls Google the word consultant nurse and come back to the forum to revert on what u read!
doctors by virtue of their training are the only ones who know each part of medicine... a nurse usually knows only her nursing, a pharmacist knows about drugs, a physiotherapist knows about physiotherapy....it is like that worldwide.. and that's why the requirements to enter medicine are that tough, we spend more years, and the training is also tough.... an allied health worker can never do a doctor's job but I can do all allied health worker's job, it can't be helped! During nurses strike, surgeons dress their wounds themselves... but if all the doctors strike the hospitals will close! Mind you, All doctors have never gone on strike before, all these doctors strikes u see, consultants (senior doctors) are still working.... But no worries since ur obviously johesu, I will leave you in your little bubble of consultant nurses and what not.

AreaFada2:
Ok.
But in developed climes, we talk of multidisciplinary team. We now have "nurse specialists, consultant nurse".....and so on.

Nurses are doing more specialised job, and delegating more jobs to nurses, provided they are trained to do so, is the way forward. Patients get treated quicker. Midwives now do a whole lot, and O&G docs don't not have to see some at all. Same with dialysis & to some extent with chemotherapy/radiotherapy.

Why this epistle? because you might be in a position in the health service some day bring progressive approach.

That way, the cat & mouse thing between docs & other healthcare professionals in 9ja will reduce.
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 1:12am On Jan 20, 2016
You have obviously misunderstood me.. there is nowhere I said minister of health equals surgeon general... Nigeria's health system is quite like no other... I was just trying to infer from my post that the head of any medical team is always the doctor (M.D) however you want to look at it...

Particularly in the Nigerian context, it is imperative that a doctor heads the health system.. allied health workers should remain just that...allied!

And just curious, the chief medical officers you met, were they doctors or allied health workers... I have had a brief stint with UK NHS, pls humor me and tell me they were allied health workers...

AreaFada2:

He insulted my teacher and senior colleague first..

In most countries that you speak, they don't have minister of health, what they have is a SURGEON-GENERAL who is always a doctor..forget the propaganda of one army surgeon nurse who is surgeon general in the US, I have had this argument countless times..
The Surgeon general is ALWAYS A DOCTOR. (M.D)

AreaFada2:
I don't really condone insulting anybody but in most countries, health ministers are not doctors, not even pharmacists or nurses. Yet they do brilliant jobs.

I know many medical profs. Most won't make good administrators/ministers. Being a a dean, VC or MD of a teaching hospital won't necessarily prepare one for such a political job.

I think they should stick to medicine/surgery & research.
HealthRe: Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States by teamchocolate: 12:50am On Jan 20, 2016
So continue to be a dullard which u obviously already are grin grin

Doctors are not magicians, if there is not structure on ground, what do u want them to do.... Ebola was an imported epidemic which was lucky to have come through Lagos which had a health system in place that worked in terms of manpower, surveillance and other favourable factors... LF is a different kettle of fish.. it is primarily endemic and concentrated in the north where there is a lot of illiteracy and health non-awareness.. I think the minister is doing just fine. BTW I worked as a volunteer during ebola and I am working closely with Lagos state on LF too so I know what I am saying..
If ebola had not come in thru lagos, and doctors were not on strike, the story may have been different because the health system is weak.. the health system comprises of all components that make health work. Maybe u may like to visit the W.H.O page and look at the 6 building blocks of the health system and rate Nigeria... there has been a systemic rot in the health system over the years.. definitely over the past decade.. it's not something that can be remedied over 6 months..wish I cud give you some practical examples but can't do that without compromising my identity...
Anyway I do hope you are better informed...

Emekamex:
I will rather be a dullard than have professors that cant practice what they teach and solve common problems. You are the one really in need of sense if you are defending an obviously clueless, inept and unprepared Health Minister.

They said if PDP continues in office Nigeria will sink, gullible Nigerians believed them! Now they are in office, they said Nigeria will still sink after all, that the rot of the past administration cannot be corrected overnight. grin grin
Again Gullible Nigerians believed them! Ebola came calling, PDP rose to the occasion, rather than congratulate PDP, they praised APC governors in Lagos and Rivers for containment of Ebola, even the powerful health minister Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu did not receive a single Weldon just because they detest anything PDP. Finally they have the power for peace to reign but God of justice who also detest injustice stroked with Lassa fever in the so called APC states, after all they are professional in containment of outbreak of diseases. Yet again out of helplessness and shamelessness they said it was the fault of past administration. gringringrin
Gullible Nigerians is now indifferent only God knows why! They said if only they could get power, insurgency will be history, gullible Nigerians believed them. Finally they have power, they said past administration did not buy ammunition but they were able to defeat insurgency in 7 months as they claim. I know Nigerians cant ask questions anymore otherwise you will visit Kuje prison convicted or charged. But i will still ask WITH WHAT AMMUNITION DID THEY DEFEAT THE INSURGENCY ? AUSTRALIAN OR CANADIAN OR BIAFRAN?
gringringringrin
Because i know they have not purchased even a single AK47 since they went to aso rock.
They said they will make fuel sell for 40 naira even when oil was above 75 naira per barrel. Now they are in charge even with their oga as oil minister fuel still sells officially 87 and un officially 100 not minding that oil price is now 30 naira and going by their assessment, assertion and calculation fuel by now should be selling for 25 naira per litre but who will talk, except you want to visit almighty Kuje prison. They said dollar being at per with naira is only a matter of may 29 2015. 8 months later dollar rate to naira hit all time high of 305. Record breaking government. I could still remember vividly my brother Chris Ngige during one of their last minute LIE in Enugu days before the fraud they called election said that PRESENTLY DOLLAR IS 220, IF DON'T VOTE THIS PEOPLE OUT, OUR BROTHERS IN ALABA WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS, do you want that to happeeeeeeen gullible Nigerians shouted Nooooooooo. He said vote APC. My question is going to Ngige my senior brother. Sir, since you claim that at 220/1usd PDP price, Alaba brothers of yours will be out of business, what do you think will be their predicament now that APC price to the same dollar is 305 and still counting? [/s]

Trash!

Ebola was an epidemic which came to Nigeria because we had a senseless govt, who had heard about it for months but refused to do anything about it.. let me not even go into the world of corruption that surrounded ebola, cuz I was part of the volunteers hurriedly conscripted into the program because doctors were on strike. this corruption was swept under the carpet because at the end with the help of Lagos State who have a health structure that can't but work, Nigeria came out victorious.

You cannot then compare ebola with Lassa fever which is primarily endemic in Nigeria. And for those of you who rly want to learn, this is what the minister of health tried to say before he was misquoted out of context, there was a health roadmap drawn since 2012 to eliminate LF (Lassa fever) because wen you talk of diseases, there is control, there is elimination and there is eradication.. but this roadmap has not been implemented cuz jonathan and his looters were busy sharing dollars.

FlirtyKaren:
How Olamide Prostrated Before Don Jazzy After Aliko Dangote Made Them End Beef

Nigerians were shocked 3 days ago when Olamide and Don Jazzy had a big fallout at the Headies 2015 while on Live International TV, and the fight spilled over to Twitter and made a bloody mess.

Fast forward to two days later, a huger, bigger surprise lay in wait. The two super icons at the same time on Instagram and Twitter, released a photo along with a statement that said they had reconciled.

Their fans and colleagues were excited but if you re among those who have been wondering how this reconciliation happened, I've got the gist for you. It's EXCLUSIVE to Laila's Blog and you can take it to the bank, thanks to a very credit worthy friend who witnessed it all.

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote was the brain behind the reconciliation. No, Vic O wasn't
involved either.

I'm told that the picture we all saw of Olamide & Don Jazzy shaking hands was taken at Aliko's place. Aliko Dangote stepped in for there to be peace. I'm also told that Olamide prostrated himself for Jazzy. Yes, my guy was shocked too when Olamide did that. All thanks to Dangote.

I'm told Jazzy has been angry since the incident happened, infact he wasn't even talking to people.
He was angry especially because Olamide did something similar last year when Reekado Banks got the Headies 2014 Rookie award.

If you recall, the undisputed street King went on stage to receive his award at the 2014 Headies and while giving his speech for the “Best Rap Album of the year ”, he clearly stated his displeasure for the omission of his Label mate and protege “Lil Kesh” in the Rookie of the year Category, the category which was won by Mavin’s Reekado Banks.

Olamide took the mic said some stuff in Yoruba and then added “I dedicate this award to my nigga “Lil Kesh” for the Rookie of the year , Bleep that sh*t'' and then returned the mic.

Fast forward to 2015, my source says everybody that was sitting next to Jazzy was sad Olamide did what he did. I hope you know Olamide and Tiwa did a song together on her recent album plus Teebillz, Tiwa's husband, I'm told, really loves and respects Olamide. I'm told the video of the song has not been finished sef, Olamide's part has not been done sef.

People were not just happy that Olamide conducted himself in such a manner. That was why Jazzy said all he said on the podium. He had been pushed to the wall.

Olamide, you all already know, destroyed things back in Headies' green room. I'm now exclusively told he also punched someone.

Anyways... Dangote called Jazzy, got Olamide's number from him and then he called both parties to his house for the settlement.

And, EVERYONE is cool now sha.

My source says Reekadobanks will release a new single this January. His label did not expect to win Headies' Next Rated.
