HealthBoy Attacked By Dogs In Stable Condition – LASUTH by teamup(op): 7:59am On Oct 31, 2014
The management of the Lagos State
University Teaching, Hospital, Ikeja has
denied allegations of abandoning four-
year-old Omonigho Abraham, who was
attacked by two dogs.
However, in a swift reaction, Omonigho’s
father, Odia, argued that the hospital
authorities were lying as the doctors had
neglected his son until PUNCH Metro’ s
report was published.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Wale Oke, said the victim was going through a healing
process which should not be misconstrued by his relatives that his condition was deteriorating.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that Omonigho’s father, Mr. Odia, had expressed anxiety over his
son’s condition.
Odia had said Omonigho’s head was giving off an offensive odour, because he had been abandoned by the
medical personnel in LASUTH for two weeks.
He had also alleged that the hospital was still asking him to buy drugs, which forced him into seeking
support from members of the public.
But Oke said Omonigho had not been abandoned and his condition was stable.
He said, “The boy was brought here about 34 days ago. He had been bitten by dogs. He had sustained
severe injuries to his scalp.
“By the time he was brought here, we saw the injury was extensive and that he had some dead tissues.
Because of the extent of the damage, we had to stop the bleeding, remove the dead tissues and administer
antibiotics to the boy for the healing process to begin. It is after this (granulation), that you can develop a
plan to cover the scalp.”
The CMD added that the odour Omonigho’s father was referring to was not as a result of decay but due to
the chemical composition of Omonigho’s skull which had been blown open during the attack.
He added that he had not seen any application for a medical report of the boy’s condition.
He said, “The governor instructed the Ministry of Health to take over his case and subsequently, all money
spent was refunded, the boy has had two surgeries, he’s been on admission, he’s eating, his wounds have
been dressed and the hospital has not asked him to pay a dime.
“Mr Odia said doctors have not been coming to attend to his boy, whereas he’s not always with the boy in
the hospital. He’s left many times and his wife has been the one to stand in for him. Doctors make entries
every time. There is no way you will come to LASUTH with that kind of injury without getting attention.”
Oke accused Omonigho’s father of taking advantage of his son’s condition to solicit funds. He, however,
maintained that Governor Babatunde Fashola had intervened in the matter.
Odia, however, marvelled at the hospital management’s explanation, insisting Omonigho had been
abandoned.
He said the hospital management had been rattled by publications on the health condition of his child and
was making desperate efforts to save face.
He said, “They should stop saying that they didn’t abandon my son for two weeks. It keeps irritating me.
For those two weeks that the boy was here, the consultant who I know as the doctor, never showed up. It
was the student doctors that came here.
“I spend most of my time here. The students would come, write their report and leave. I would ask them,
‘my son’s drugs are finished, can you write a prescription for me? And they would reply, ‘wait for the
professor.’ I asked them when the professor would be coming, and they wouldn’t answer me.
“If everybody said I should wait for professor, at least he should show up once to recommend drugs to us,
which had finished. Last week, I was fed up and carried my son. I told my wife I was getting mad because
my son was not getting better.
“I later learnt my wife, who had earlier noticed the boy’s condition, had told the nurse not to let me know
because I wouldn’t be able to bear it. I later saw his head being opened one morning and broke down into
tears.”

PoliticsI Go To Beer Parlours Every Friday – Fayose by teamup(op): 7:59pm On Oct 30, 2014
Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said he goes to beer parlour every Friday in order to
enable him to get close to the common man in the state.
The governor spoke with journalists in Abuja on Thursday while defending the concept of what he
described as “stomach infrastructure” introduced by his government.
He said it would be wrong to assume that stomach infrastructure means only sharing of food and money
to the people.
Fayose defended his decision to go to beer parlours, saying that it would be wrong to equate governance
with church or morality.
He said, “I also go to beer parlour on Friday to stay with the common men there. Governance is not
church; it is about diverse characters and you must relate with them as such.
“Christmas is coming. Why do people go out of their ways to be shopping or doing other things if it is not
just to make people merry?
“So, I’m grooming chicken, buying rice, yams, plantain, and the rest of them. I am sure if I give it to
families during the festive period, they will be happy. So, stomach infrastructure is a way of life.”
Fayose said most people, who commit crime do so because they felt that life was no longer worthy of
living for them and that there was no one to tell them that there was life for them.
He said it was because of this that he set up a department for stomach infrastructure and also appointed
a special assistant and a personal assistant on it.
“So, my style without apology is that stomach infrastructure is a way of life for me, I will relate well with
my people to alleviate poverty and hunger,” he added.

PoliticsDeputy Gov Sends Stinker To Amosun by teamup(op): 1:13pm On Oct 30, 2014
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Segun Adesegun, has thrown a jab at Governor Ibikunle Amosun through a letter in which he detailed alleged injustices against his person and his office.

The letter dated October 24, 2014 confirmed speculations in the Government House that all is not well with two topmost public office holders in the All Progressives Congress state.

The state government denied knowledge of the letter.

In the 10-paragraph letter obtained by The PUNCH on Tuesday, Adesegun accused Amosun, among other things, of starving his office of funds and allocation of old vehicles to his office.

He claimed that the governor had failed to deliver on his promise that he “would enjoy his tenure as the deputy governor while contesting the governorship election in 2011 under the(defunct) Action Congress of Nigeria.”

Adesegun added in the letter he addressed to the governor that even his September and October feeding and out-of-pocket and sundry allowances had yet to be paid.
The letter

The letter

The deputy governor said, “My governor, as I am writing to you, the feeding and out-of-pocket allowance of the deputy governor for the months of September and October 2014, as well as the monthly sundry expenses for the months of September and October 2014 are yet to be paid.”

Adesegun claimed during this year’s Eid-el-Kabir and Eid al-Fitr festivals, funds were released to government functionaries except him and his aides.

He said, “Last year, in my letter to your good self on the affairs of the state, I concluded by reminding you that at a meeting held in February, 2011 at Alhaji Rafiu Ogunleye’s house, while you were the governorship candidate of the ACN, you called me aside and promised me that I will enjoy my tenure as your deputy but since then I have not felt the benefit.

“I write to say that rather than improving, the situation is worse.’’

Adesegun also alleged that seven months ago, electricity supply to his official residence was cut off “because the state government owed the then Power Holding Company of Nigeria.”

He said he had had to spend an average of N30,000 daily on diesel to provide electricity for his residence.

The deputy governor wondered why his lodge was not initially connected to the state mini-power plant even “when it is on record that several government premises, including private residences and organisations enjoy power supply from the plant.’’

He said, “I informed you personally (and severally) during the State Executive Council meetings, requesting necessary action from the appropriate quarters. Up till now, I am still living in darkness.

“Of course, your Excellency knows that till date, I remain the deputy governor in Nigeria without a portfolio, in spite of entreaties made to you from various quarters. Worse, several attempts made by me for the office of the deputy governor were rebuffed by your good self. And I keep wondering why this is so.”

Adesegun also alleged that while the July 2014 monthly running costs of ministries, departments and agencies in Ogun State were duly paid, that of his office was withheld.

He added, “Another very relevant issue is my official car. The engine knocked in December last year. Your Excellency will recollect that you were formerly using the car and that it was when you rejected it that it was transferred to me. So, when it had problems, I thought you will appreciate and understand my plight, rather you ignored me.

“I had cause to remind you many times, but nothing was done. I resorted to using my personal car as back-up even when I was aware that you were giving vehicles, including Custom-made bulletproof vehicles to others. It was when a Good Samaritan bought a Tundra Truck for me that you deemed it fit to send a Toyota Prado XL V4 engine to me in late August.

“My convoy of old vehicles break down intermittently when travelling. On numerous occasions, we have had cause to stop while on a journey to effect repairs on vehicles . Obviously, these vehicles are to be changed every two years under best practices, even when newly bought. These vehicles in my convoy were used by the last administration and transferred to me.

“Your Excellency may also note that the fund you approved for my vacation with some members of my immediate family and two aides in August 2014 is yet to be paid. Please recall that I discussed the vacation with your good self in May, and you graciously conceded that I should forward a memorandum in June, only for it to be approved in August.

“Despite your approval, the fund was not released. I made several spirited efforts to no avail. It got to a stage that I was being bounced between you and the Commissioner for Finance. I eventually proceeded on the leave without collecting a dime.

“I am therefore constrained to ask if the non-payment of these allowances is as a result of the state government not being able to meet her financial commitments. Or is the state financially bankrupt that it cannot meet its responsibilities.

Adesegun asked the governor to fear God and ended his letter with a warning : Amosun’s second term bid may fail.

He said, “Your Excellency, while writing this letter, my thoughts race to my university days in Ile-Ife, Osun State where I joined a group of bikers travelling around the country out of youthful exuberance.

“During this period, one of my pastimes was reading inscriptions on cars and buses to amuse myself. In 1978, I witnessed a fatal accident near a big tree at Alakia Junction in Ibadan on the way to Ile-Ife involving a white Peugeot 504 station wagon. Nearly everybody in the car died; shockingly there were several amulets hung over the car that had the word “I shall not return” boldly inscribed on both sides. Unfortunately, it did not return. I therefore conclude that we all must fear God.”

When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information, Yusuf Olaniyonu, said he was not aware of the letter.

“I’m not aware. I don’t know anything about the letter,” he said.

PoliticsDaniel’s Family May Sue Amosun Over Isoko Descent Claim by teamup(op): 8:55am On Oct 03, 2014
The lineage of the former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Oje
Olowobaiye descendants on Thursday threatened sue the incumbent
governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for claiming that Daniel hailed from Isoko,
Delta State.
But the family, however, said if Amosun could retract the claim and cause it to
be published in print media and aired on broadcast media within ‘a reasonable
length of time’ they might softpedal.
Representatives of the Oje Olowobaiye descendants said this when they
addressed journalists in Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on the
matter.
Amosun while on a working tour to Odeda Local Government on Wednesday
September 17, claimed that the former governor was from Isoko, Delta.
He added that he was among those who aided him to assume indigeneship of
Sagamu, Ogun State.
The incumbent governor had reacted to a claim made by Daniel two weeks
earlier during a Labour Party rally that he (Amosun) had sold all the 14
government farm settlements in Odeda Local Government area.
The Ojo Olowobaiye family had representatives from the four lineages -
Ogunsemowo, Oditan, Oyefero, and Otesile.
The representatives are Abiodun Adeyemi, Michael Sonubi, Obafemi Ogunsola
and Otunba Oluwole Ogunjimi among others.
While they reiterated that Daniel belongs to Otesile lineage, an arm of the Oje
Olowobaiye dynasty, Makun, Sagamu, they termed Amosun’s claim as
“unfortunate, reckless and preposterous.”
They further said it was a calculated attempt to malign the integrity and
destroy the reputation and bring the dynasty to shame.
They said,”Therefore we are demanding a retraction of the statements made
by Governor Ibikunle Amosun and also calling for an unreserved apology from
the governor.
“Should Governor Ibikunle Amosun fail to tow path of honour and decency
demanded above, The Oje dynasty shall, of course be left with no option than
to seek redress in the law court.”
When asked what would be the time frame they would give the incumbent
governor to retract the story and through what medium, they said, “To err is
human and to forgive divine. If the governor apologises, we will forgive him.
We shall wait for him to retract the claim that our son hails from Isoko, Delta
State.
“We are not expecting him to come to the family. We are not going to give him
an ultimatum, but we will wait for a reasonable time frame after which if he did
not retract it, we will go to court.”
They said Daniel only adopted his late father’s first name and that the father’s
name was Daniel Ogunjimi.
