CrimeI Had Sex With Five Dogs, Boy, 18, Tells Police by teamup(op): 7:22am On Aug 17, 2014
*Taboo …gods to be appeased — Villagers

*Suspects to be charged with unnatural offence

By Simon Ebegbulem, Benin-City

Amid the fear of the Ebola virus in the country,
it was with disbelief that residents of Iguosa
community in Ovia North East Local Government
Council of Edo State ran to an uncompleted
building in the area to see an 18-year-old boy,
simply identified as Ighodaro, making love to a
dog .
Curiously, the dog was said to have enjoyed the
sex before the crowd stormed the scene.
Ighodaro was in JSS 2 before he dropped out
from school, due to the inability of his poor
parents to pay his school fees.
He learnt welding, but, while doing that, he
became a lover of dogs. He confessed to
Sunday Vanguard that he has slept with
different dogs five times until this last episode.
It was learnt that a member of the community
was passing by the uncompleted building when
he sighted the boy making love to the dog and
raised the alarm that attracted the villagers.
Mr George Ogbonmwa, owner of the dog,
expressed shock at the incident, explaining that
when he saw the young man with the dog, he
did not know he had an ulterior motive. “I
thought he wanted to play with the dog only for
him to end up in an uncompleted building
where he had canal knowledge of the dog.
This is like another dream to me because I have
not seen this kind of thing in my life before”.
Following what the villagers described as an
abomination, the Odionwere (head)of the
community, Elder Clifford Igiehon, was invited to
the scene and expressed shock over the incident
which he described as a taboo.
He said,”We have never seen this kind of thing
before in this community. This is an abominable
act and we don’t want the suspect to come and
corrupt other people here. What he committed
was a taboo. We will call the parents to come
and atone the gods but the boy will go on his
own, because we cannot kill him.
But we have killed the dog because that is the
first thing to do. And because we don’t want
this kind of taboo to happen again, we decided
to hand the boy over to the police. This kind of
thing has never happened before, the boy has
to face the music. The parents will perform
traditional rites, it is going to cost about a
hundred thousand Naira.
The boy knows what he is doing, he is not mad.
We know him from the beginning, he was in
school before he went to learn welding; may be
the parents could not pay his school fees. We
were even shocked he said he has had sex with
dogs five times; that will tell you he knows what
he is doing”.
The community leaders further used the
opportunity to appeal to the police: “Give us
more policemen in our area because a lot of evil
things are happening now. Like what the boy
did is a taboo and they must cleanse the land
with the appropriate sacrifice. We need the
police to be around us so that these evil
happenings will stop”.
The suspect, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard at
the Edo State Police Command Headquarters,
Benin-City, said he did not know what was
wrong with him, admitting that he enjoyed sex
with five dogs while two bit him during the act.
“I learnt welding around Iheya. I don’t know
when I slept with the dog, I slept with dogs five
times. Some of the dogs bit me, I have been
bitten two times and each time I have a dog bite
my grand father will treat me”, he said.
Asked about the tactics he deployed to attract
the dogs, Ighodaro stated: “When I call them, I
will be rubbing their head, petting them so that
they will feel free with me. I will be playing with
them and they will follow me. They will bark at
me some times, and when I notice that it is
serious I will leave them. Any one that is
friendly with me, I take that one to an
uncompleted building and have sex”.
The suspect who was asked about his girl friend,
said he broke up with her last year and started
making love to dogs this year. His words: “ I had
a girlfriend last year but we are no longer
together. I started sleeping with dogs this year
around March. I don’t know what is wrong with
me.
None of my relations knows I sleep with dogs. In
this particular case, the dog is very familiar with
me; so it was easy to lure it away. While I was
having sex with the dog, one man saw me and
ran to inform the Odionwere. They now came to
pick me and they asked the police to go and
check me and see if I have any disease. I don’t
know what is wrong with me”.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo,
who reacted to the incident, narrated: “It was
the people of that community that arrested the
boy and called the police.
He was taken to Owotubu Division before he
was transferred to the state Police Command
Headquarters. What he has done is classified
under Unnatural Offences, Section 214 Sub-
Section Two which says that any person who has
carnal knowledge of an animal is guilty of a
felony and he is liable for imprisonment for 14
years if he is found guilty. We are going to
charge him to court. You can see that the guy is
not denying anything.
He made a confessional statement that he has
been sleeping with dogs since March and he has
done it five times. I was very worried because
this is an unnatural offence and it can bring
problem to any community.
You can imagine a human being sleeping with a
dog what will that dog produce in some months
time; , you can see it is a bizarre situation. The
boy looks normal unless if he has spiritual
problem because I can’t imagine some body
sleeping with a dog.
He said he had a girl friend before; you can
imagine if he decides to sleep with another
woman what he will give the woman and that is
how they spread diseases particularly now that
we have different diseases, It is really shocking
that we experience this type of issue every day
in our country. I am very worried but thank God
that the community people have killed that dog
because they said what the boy committed was
a taboo”.

Politics3 Killed As Police, Okada Operators Clash In Lagos by teamup(op): 7:08am On Aug 17, 2014
Although normalcy has returned to the area,
controversy has continued to trail the alleged
killing of three people at Iyana School Bus Stop,
along LASU-Iba Road, Lagos State on Friday.
Contrary to reports that commercial cyclists in
the area attacked a team of policemen from
Isashi Division led by the Station Officer (SO)
and the Operations Officer, investigations
revealed that policemen from the Division
stormed the Okada park at Iyana School Bus
Stop, seizing commercial bikes, an action that
was met with heavy resistance from the cyclists
who alleged that the ban on Okada in Lagos
State did not apply to the area.
Trouble started when the officers allegedly
started shooting sporadically which sources said
resulted in the death of three persons.
A food vendor (Iya Bukola), who claimed to have
witnessed the incident, told Sunday Vanguard
the story: “We were all here when policemen
came to the park and started seizing bikes from
the Okada riders. When the Okada riders
resisted, they started shooting sporadically and
they killed two people instantly while several
others escaped with gun shot wounds. When the
shooting started I ran out of my shop for fear of
being hit by stray bullet. It was while I was
running that I fell down and sustained this
injury on my leg”, she narrated.
Lamenting, Abimbola Aliu, a commercial cyclist,
said, “See how they have changed the story,
they said we attacked them. Is it possible for
Okada riders to attack the police? The law of
restriction on certain routes by the state
government does not affect this place. So when
they said they were attacked by commercial bike
operators at a black spot, they should please
show the world where the black spot is at Iyana
School Bus Stop. We have been enduring all this
intimidation and it has become unbearable. One
of the victims was at the car wash when a bullet
hit him”.
Confirming the report, Lagos State Deputy Police
Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), Mr Lelma Kolle,
said police men from Isashi Division were
detailed to storm a black spot after receiving
series of complaints about criminal activities of
hoodlums and, on their way, some Okada
riders, who misconstrued the mission of the
police, started pelting the team with stones and
the police avoiding confrontation with the Okada
riders, retreated and ran back to the station
Kolle said the Okada riders pursued the police
to the station and attempted to burn down the
station.
He said to prevent them from carrying out their
dastardly act, the police fired into the air to
scare them away but two of the Okada men
were shot in the legs.
“As I am talking to you, the two injured persons
are responding to treatment in hospital”, he
said.
He said that police preliminary investigation
showed that some hoodlums who cashed in on
the situation later engaged in a free for all and
one of them was stabbed to death.

PoliticsLiberia Appeals For Nigeria’s Understanding by teamup(op): 8:54am On Aug 08, 2014
The Liberian government has appealed to
Nigerians to show understanding to its citizens
on the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease.
A Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, imported the disease
to Nigeria, which has led to the death of the
matron who attended to him at a Lagos hospital.
The doctor, who attended to the late Sawyer,
has also tested positive to the virus. There are
also other five cases of the virus.
Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof. Al-Hassan
Conteh, made the appeal yesterday during a
meeting between Minister of Health Prof
Onyebuchi Chukwu and foreign missions.
Conteh also informed the gathering of the
efforts of his home government in containing
the virus, which included the declaration of a
state of emergency.
He also asked for protection for his people in
Nigeria, stressing that reports have indicated
that Liberians are being harassed.
He said: “The President of Liberia declared last
night the state of emergency in Liberia effective
August 6th, 2014 for 90 days to institute extra
ordinary measures in combating this disease.
“The measures are indeed extra ordinary, even
to the extent of under our constitution of
curbing certain rights of individuals to pot this
disease to an end.
“I would like to appeal for the indulgence of
Nigerian government. The attention of our
embassy has been brought to several cases of
harassment of Liberians, especially in Lagos and
other places.
“The harassment is based on stereotyping,
sometimes expression of collective guilt. I think
as we combat this disease, I would like to
recommend that our responses in the public
campaign to indicate that association is not
causation.
“So, that the index case came from Liberia does
not mean all Liberians in Nigeria have Ebola.
People have been harassed.
“I would like to commend the media; they have
been very effective but there is one case I will
like to bring to your attention, that is The Sun
newspaper of Sunday, a cartoon, it is a very
funny cartoon but it is based on this collective
guilt we are talking about.
“The cartoon illustrates a plane that has just
landed and people are running from the plane,
and a man said: ‘There is a man who looks like a
Liberian inside the aircraft, run, run, run, Ebola!’
“We join you in this fight and Liberia is playing
its part but I would like to appeal to you
because there are law abiding Liberians living
with you here in Nigeria who have been
harassed. So, I appeal for your indulgence as
you frame your responses, especially on radio
because people have been making derogatory
remarks that have been brought to our
attention.”

LAGOS — The 31-year-old man, who allegedly
strangled his 39-year-old international business
woman lover to death in her apartment at
Green Estate, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, last
month, told a crowd yesterday that he did it out
of jealousy.
The suspect, Kelechi Williams, who was paraded
at the Lagos State Police Command, was
arrested at the border between Ghana and Cote
D’Ivore by operatives from the Area ‘E’
Command, Festac Town and those of
International Police, INTERPOL, while fleeing
with the deceased’s Range Rover Sports Utility
Vehicle, SUV, with number plate LAGOS EKY 509
AZ.
The incident, according to him, occurred on July
19, 2014, at about 2 am during an altercation
over the late arrival of his lover, a mother of
four identified as Njideka Lizzy Nzewe.
How she was killed
Narrating how he snuffed life out of the
deceased, the suspect, who hails from Umuji in
Ndemili North Local Government Area of
Anambra State, said: “Lizzy was my girlfriend. I
knew her three years ago. But we started getting
serious in February this year.
“I came back from Ghana to visit her on July 16,
2014 which was on a Wednesday. The next day
we went out and came back late.
“On Friday, she told me to stay back at home
and rest because I was tired. She left the house,
saying she was going to the new apartment she
was to pack into, assuring me she would be
back as usual by 6 p.m.
“But she did not return by 6pm. Rather, the
gate man came with a power generating set,
saying madam had gone to drop the workers.
“When it was 8 p.m. and I did not see her, I
started calling her on phone but she did not
pick. I called her up to 30 times without
response.
“She came back by midnight and when I asked
why she did not pick my calls, she said the
phone was in silent mode. I brought out my
phone and called her line only for it to ring.
“At that point I noticed she was drunk. I got
angry and asked if that was the way she would
pay me back for leaving everything in Ghana to
come and spend time with her. I threatened to
quit the relationship. But at that point, her
phone rang and I told her to pick it but she
insisted that I should pick it and when I did, the
caller, who was a male, asked ‘baby are you
home?’
“Immediately she discovered it was a male’s
voice, she snatched the phone from me and
asked why I should pick her calls. I reminded
her of a similar incident when she came to visit
me in Ghana and my phone rang. She pick it
and on discovering it was a female, she
smashed the phone on the ground, without
knowing who the caller was.
“I reminded her also that she collected my other
phones from me and brought them to Nigeria.
In anger, I took the phone and smashed it on
the ground.
“Before I knew it, she threw my things outside,
saying I should leave her house. I told her to
give me the N300,000 she borrowed from me to
buy an air conditioner, if she wanted me to
leave but she said she had no money with her
and gave me her ATM card which she said had
just N140,000.
“At a point, she slapped me and we started
fighting. She held on to my manhood and
started stretching it. That was when I held the
wrapper that was around her neck and used it
to strangle her, thereby forcing her to let go my
manhood. She fell down and became
motionless.
“Immediately, I took her three phones, ATM
card and went outside to meet the gate man to
see me off to any ATM machine, where I
withdrew N100,000.
“I dropped the gateman at home, and told him I
was going to pump the tyre. At that point, I
knew I was in trouble. I did not go back to her
house for fear of being arrested.
“I drove straight to Mile Two, from where I
picked a driver who drove me down to Ghana. I
spent some days in Ghana before I decided to
leave for Cote d’Ivoire, where unfortunately I
was arrested.
“I never wanted to kill her. I have never fought
in my life, let alone kill somebody. I did not also
steal her jewellery and N8 million as claimed by
the Police. The only money I withdrew was
N100,000 and her phone.”
Suspect gives thanksgiving in church
Briefing newsmen earlier, the command’s boss,
Umar Manko, said after the suspect killed the
woman, he locked the door from outside,
apparently to make it look as if they had gone
out. He further disclosed that a new
International Passport which bore the suspect’s
name and the surname of his deceased’s lover,
was found on him, suggesting that the motive
was pre-empted.
Back in Ghana, preliminary investigation,
according to the Police, revealed that the
suspect took the SUV to church, declaring it was
his. Police sources said he made an unspecified
donation to the church and also threw a party to
celebrate the new car.
How I discovered my madam’s corpse—Guard
On his part, the gate man, John Tungwim, said
he suspected something was amiss when the
suspect dashed out from the apartment that
night.
According to him, “he told me he was going to
the club with madam but that she asked him to
go and withdraw money with her ATM card first.
“I went with him because I know madam’s pin
code. But we came back, he told me to go
inside that madam said she was tired and could
not go. So, he drove out alone.
“I never suspected anything until the next day
when I did not see madam. I called one of the
children’s attention to it. Out of curiosity, I
climbed a ladder only to discover that madam
was on the floor foaming in her mouth. I
contacted her brother who called in the police.”

Nairaland GeneralIf A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words, This One's Worth A Million by teamup(op): 7:36am On Aug 06, 2014
They say a picture's worth a thousand words,
but this one may be worth a million.

11 year-old Liang Yaoyi wanted to be a doctor
when he grew up, but unfortunately that dream
will never come true. He passed away last Friday
from a brain tumor.
But what's so remarkable is what he said to his
parents before he died. He told them if he
didn't survive, he wanted to donate his organs
so that others could live. As Liang's body was
being wheeled into surgery to remove his
organs, the doctors all bowed and formed a sort
of honor guard to show their respect.
"There are many people doing great things in
the world," he said to his parents. "They are
great, and I want to be a great kid too."
And a great kid he was.

Popular Yoruba actress, Omotunde Ogundimu,
who has been off the movie scene for a while
now, is presently battling with fibroid.
According to reports, the mother of three
needs about N500,000 to undergo surgery to
have the fibroid removed.
Recounting how the problem started,
Omotunde told Nigeria Films thus:
“I noticed it last year before my husband
passed away. Anytime we had intercourse, I
would always bleed. I took it for something
else, so I didn’t really pay attention to it. But
when he became sick and we couldn’t have
intercourse any more, it (the bleeding)
stopped. Then, I didn’t have time to study it at
that period too.
“But what I noticed is that my menstrual circle
changed, so I would menstruate twice in a
month with very heavy flow. So, at that time, I
just felt it was one of the signs of menopause
because I am way above 40. But last year, I
had to go to the hospital to complain and the
doctor said I had fibroid, even before the tests
and scan were conducted. When the scan was
done, it was discovered that the fibroid was
fully grown in my womb,” she explained.
Soliciting for help, the actress admitted that
didn't have that kind of money because she
has been single-handedly taking care of her
three children who are in school since the
demise of her husband.

Students of the National Open University of

significant hike in their fees.
Some of the protesting students said they were
infuriated by a decision by NOUN’s

The students demonstrated yesterday at
NOUN's study center in Benin City, capital of
Edo State. They carried placards and sang
protest songs demanding an immediate reversal
to the old fees.
Several students who spoke to a correspondent
of SaharaReporters contended that there was no
justification for the increased fees. They vowed
to oppose it until the school administration
returned to the former fees.
Two of the students disclosed that their
colleagues at the Lagos campus were organizing
to commence demonstrations as well, adding
that protests would continue at the Benin
center.
Outrageous increases in students' fees without
prior warning have triggered student protests
and resistance in different parts of Nigeria.
Students at Lagos State University (LASU) are still
protesting increased fees at their institution. The
state government hiked fees from N25, 000 to
between N250, 000 and N350, 000. In reaction
to the protests, the Lagos State government
recently announced token percentage
reductions, but the students have rejected the
gesture, saying they were determined to
continue with their protests.
Also, students at the Obafemi Awolowo
University (OAU) in Ile-Ife have continued to
resist a vacation order from the campus after
they protested against a sudden increase in
fees. Describing the increase as “outrageous and
irrational,” the students voiced their resolve to
continue their protests despite verbal threats by
the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole.
Mr. Omole has threatened to proscribe the
students' union and is accused of working to
victimize its leaders.

Students of the National Open University of
Nigeria (NOUN) yesterday staged a huge
demonstration to protest a sudden and
significant hike in their fees.
Some of the protesting students said they were
infuriated by a decision by NOUN’s
administration to jerk up tuition fees from N58,
000 to N115, 000.
