Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has read the riot act to Igbo leaders and monarchs in Lagos State, warning that he will make life unbearable for them if they sabotage efforts being made to ensure that the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, emerges as the next governor of the state. The monarch, who summoned all the Eze-Ndigbo in the state to his palace, said the support of their kensmen for the opposition party in the state could frustrate current efforts being made in all quarters to ensure that Lagos was no longer in opposition with the Federal Government. He said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode, who I picked, that is your end. If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a b*****d and it is not my father who gave birth to me. “By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water. “For the Igbo and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they did not come with all their houses. But now, they have properties in the state. So they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God. “I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he could never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere you cannot do it here.” http://www..ng/2015/04/06/youll-die-within-7-days-if-you-dont-vote-for-ambode-oba-of-lagos-threatens-igbos/ |

Boko Haram takes over Bama as Military withdraws to Maiduguri Soldiers at the war front in Borno state have told newsmen on Tuesday, in Maiduguri, that Boko Haram insurgents have taken over Bama local government area after hours of fierce battle. According to a soldier, the insurgents were attacking them like flies. “You kill and kill and kill but these people are coming like flies. We have to withdraw and allow the Air force do their job. We do not know what is now on ground in Bama, but we have all withdrawn to Maiduguri. “My brother, Maiduguri is not safe. Please take your family as fast as you can out of Maiduguri to a safer place for now because if the Air force fails to finish these people in Bama, they will reground and advance to Maiduguri. We are not praying for that, but the truth is that, they are in large numbers. We killed over a thousand, but these boys are on drugs.” He said. Also on Monday night, another security source who was not authorised to speak to the press told DailyPost reporter that, as at 10:00 pm on Monday, they were told that, the insurgents have taken over Bama. He said they wanted to come to Maiduguri from Banki but could not do so due to the insurgents’ invasion of Bama. “We cannot come to Maiduguri because we were communicated that the insurgents have taken over and are inside Bama town now. Because of our weapons, we need to do one or two things to have passage through Cameroon. I did not call because I know that you people would be worried.” He said. dailypost.ng/2014/09/02/boko-haram-takes-bama-military-withdraws-maiduguri/ |

It was a pathetic drama in the Owerri High Court premises Friday morning when an inmate who is believed to have awaited trial in prison for upwards of seven years was acquitted of any wrong doing and discharged by an Owerri Magistrate Court. Instead of the usual jubilation that follow any ruling of ‘discharged and acquitted’, crimefacts.org gathered that the said inmate, Sylvester Obata (not real names); wearing a long face, headed straight for the Prison van that brought them to court, only to be intercepted by a prison guard who reminded him he was free to go home. To the chagrin of eyewitnesses, Obata said he was going nowhere demanding to be allowed entry into the Prison Van back to prison. The prison guard who mistook Obata’s statement for a weird joke was jolted when he tried to push him away from the prison van and was defiantly resisted by the freed inmate. What seemed like a mild drama turned nearly absurd when the calm of the court premises was shattered by Obata’s shouts and pleas to be allowed to go back to prison and he thrashed about and struggled with several prison officials who wanted him out of the court and on his way home. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to crimefacts.org, it took the effort of over six prison officials, court workers and policemen to get the freed inmate out of the court premises. Obata who refused to budge even in the face of threats of brutality by security men, had to be dragged on the floor while he raised hell in the court premises. Outside the prison, Obata sustained his raving, telling whoever cared to listen why he should be allowed to remain in jail. According to him, setting him free was no big deal, but his plight outside prison is what the court should have also considered. Said he, “I have no place to go or anybody to go to. I have no job or business.I want to go back to prison where I can at least be sure to eat something everyday.” The evidently apprehensive former prison inmate, demanded to see the Chief Judge of the state to plead his case himself and explain to him why it was better to keep him in prison than outside prison. Slightly after mid-day, when crimefacts.org news sources went to check the outcome of the agitation of the former inmate, nobody seemed to know what became of him and his demands to be taken back to jail or to the state Chief Judge. http://crimefacts.org/drama-in-court-as-freed-prison-inmate-refuses-to-go-says-he-prefers-prison-where-he-can-at-least-feed-daily/ |
The Arewa Youth Movement, after a rigorous screening exercise, has listed 60 Nigerians, most of them of northern extraction, to succeed Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as President of the Federal republic of Nigeria. These are persons they believe can tackle the present level of underdevelopment, insecurity and disunity in the country. Although the nominees cut across different ideological orientations and political parties, they are mainly liberals, progressives and even radicals. Three names have been selected from each state, on the basis of geo-political representation and considerations that favour merit as well as ethnic, gender and religious inclusiveness. Clearly, some states have stronger candidates than others, and the process is continuous, based on agreed criteria for further pruning. In drawing up the list, consideration was also given to leaders from different vocational backgrounds. Additional criteria included credibility, good education, consistency, reasonable levels of low or lack of corruption, public sector experience, patriotism, national and international acceptability, and firmness and strength of character to implement fundamental development projects. The Movement is very optimistic that one of its nominees will emerge as the next President of Nigeria, after a continuing process of processing, including public debates and public scrutiny of the potentials of the candidates. The other nominees will then be expected to support the winner to run the country well on the basis of collective leadership. Symphony007: Rubbish! Do this people know the meaning of priorities? They are building a bridge in a areas which will have little or no economic impact in nigeria but there is no road connecting port harcourt to bonny island, the location of the largest oil terminal in west africa, largest LNG plant in africa, the only plave in nigeria that has uninterupted power supply. Do you know what a road linking it to port harcourt will do for the niger delta economy? Yet they keep doing lip service for years. Common sense is not common.I believe ur just ignorant...cos ur command of words don't look stupid...ibeno is the host community of Mobil.... |

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Karu, a suburb of Abuja has struck out the case of alleged terrorism and illegal importation of firearms leveled against four Lebanese nationals, Mustapha Fawaz, Talal Roda, Abdulla Tahini and Kossay Nourdin. At the resumed trial, the prosecuting counsel, Cliff Osagie, in his application to withdraw the charges, told the court that further investigation against the accused persons revealed that the offences for which they were charged before the court are clearly outside the scope and jurisdiction of the court. Lawyer to the accused persons, Ahmed Raji in his response informed the court that he had already filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case and therefore will not object to the application for withdrawal of the charges filed by the prosecutor. Having listened to both parties, Magistrate Muyiwa Oyeyipo granted the prayer of the prosecutor and struck out the case against the four accused persons who were subsequently discharged. The men are suspected of having links to the Islamist militant group Hezbollah with terrorism and possession of illegal arms, after authorities said they found heavy weapons in one of their homes. http://www.hopefornigeriaonline.com/court-drops-charges-against-lebanese-arms-dealers/ |
simpleseyi: You are right ACN is confused that is why on May 29, Fashola commissioned the first Electric Bridge in Africa while the whole South East and South South eleven states out of which eight are PDP have been begging federal government for donkey years to build second Niger bridge or repair the old one there. Oyo, Osun, Ekiti & Ogun states have been commissioning projects while PDP governors are using the masses money to buy jets. Amechi used state resources to buy jet, Akpabio too used state resources to buy jet while his people are house boys/girls in ACN states, Suntan or what is this governor of Taraba of blessed memory too used state resources to buy jet, his people cursed him & he has been in coma or full-stop since he crashed. ACN governments delivered projects on May 29 while GEJ delivered speech and presented magazine of zero performance for us to mark. You don't need a magazine nor a textbook nor a marking scheme to see the first Electric Bridge in Africa built & commissioned by Fashola. Tinubu is mad for presenting his wife as Senator but how do we explain the Abuja first/last lady that is also permanent secretary in Bayelsa?Ignorance stinks |

The defence of Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, and his co-defendants in two of the many fuel subsidy trials they are currently facing at the Ikeja High Court has taken a new dimension as a result of a novel application filed by a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN). Agbakoba in the application is seeking to quash the charges against his clients. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had preferred a 10-count charge against Ogunbambo and other accused persons for allegedly using forged cargo and freight documents to obtain the sum of N976. 6 million as subsidy claims from the federal government. But Agbokoba application has raised three major constitutional and jurisdictional issues against the EFCC. The first issue touches on what he referred to in legal parlance, as “Miranda Rights.” Miranda rights are secured rights of persons arrested or detained to have legal representation immediately on arrest and before making any statement. THISDAY checks revealed that this may be the first time a court in Nigeria is called upon to determine the issue of non-administration of Miranda Rights by law enforcement agencies. These rights, the former NBA boss argued, are contained at Section 35(2) of the Constitution and Section 3(2) & (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State. The purpose of Miranda Rights is to prevent coercive and involuntary extraction of statements by law enforcement agents a widely acknowledged practice, in Nigeria. The rights guarantee voluntariness of statements. Agbakoba argued that Miranda Rights were not administered to the defendants by the EFCC before charging them to court. The second issue in the application challenges the competence of a federal agency, namely the EFCC, to prosecute federal offences in a state High Court and in particular, and whether the Lagos High Court has jurisdiction at all to try offences relating to the revenue of the federal government, that is, fuel subsidy. The third major issue challenges the legislative and judicial competence relating to the trial of the defendants under the Advance Fee and other Fraud Related Offences Act. In an affidavit in support of the application, Agbakoba argued that prior to the interrogation of the accused persons, the EFCC did not inform them of their right to consult a counsel of their choice before making or writing any statement; or answering any question put to them. The affidavit, which was sworn to by Jude Ehiedu, said the anti-graft agency’s operatives did not inform the accused persons of their right to remain silent or avoid any question until after consultation with their lawyer. He further contended that the commission did not inform the accused of their rights to refuse to answer any question, make or endorse any statement. “After the applicants were arrested by the operatives of the respondent, the applicants were interrogated and made to write statements without being informed of their rights to silence and counsel. The applicants made written statements at the instance of the operatives of the respondent without consulting or engaging a counsel. “The respondents did not inform the applicants of their right to apply for free legal representation from the Office of the Public Defender, Legal Aid Council or any such agency. “From the information obtained from the applicants at the meeting referred to above, I am aware that the manner of arrest and extraction of written statements from the applicants infringed constitutional and statutory safeguards for fair hearing and due process,” he said. No date has been fixed for the hearing of the application, which was filed last Wednesday. Meanwhile, the substantive case comes up on May 28 and 30. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/subsidy-fraud-agbakoba-joins-ogunbambo-s-defence-team-seeks-to-quash-charges/147980/ |
