While waiting for the full release of BlackBerry Priv which is expected to launch 6th of November, BlackBerry has already started uploading some custom apps for the BlackBerry Priv already. This is recently sported in Google Play Store.

The good news is that these newly uploaded apps will work on other Android devices – a PLUS for all android users. Sad part is that the apps aren’t available for download yet. We’re guessing this situation is pending till the official launch of the phone. This is also a good move. Instead of waiting for techies to mod the apps and upload theme themselves. Below is a list of the already apps by BlackBerry:

Notes
Tasks
BlackBerry Calendar
Contacts
BlackBerry Hub
BlackBerry Device Search
BlackBerry Launcher
BlackBerry Keyboard
BlackBerry Services
Password Keeper
BlackBerry Camera
DTEK by BlackBerry, and
MicrosoftexFAT

Awesome list I would say

ProgrammingFacebook Launches Techprep: ‘there Will Be Over 1M Programming Jobs By 2020’ by TechLector(op): 5:22pm On Oct 22, 2015
CEO, Facebook Mark Zukerberg has launched an avenue (TechPrep) for teaching people and their parents and guardians what programming really is. TechPrep is a Facebook-led initiative, supported by McKinsey & Company, to promote computer science and programming as a career option and to provide resources to get started. People from everywhere can come together to learn more about computer science and programming and find resources to get them started.

In the world that we are where computers are everywhere around us: in our cars, cell phones and televisions. But here’s a secret: they need a program to tell them what to do. Programmers are the people who dream up new things and then write the instructions that bring their ideas to life.

TechPrep brings together hundreds of resources, curated based on who you are and what you need, such as age range, skill level and what kind of resource you are looking for. The website is designed for both English and Spanish speakers.

We created TechPrep in response to our understanding, supported by research from McKinsey, of the participation of underrepresented minorities in programming careers. We found:

There was great self-confidence about their own potential among Black and Hispanic learners despite their underrepresentation in the industry. 50% of Blacks and 42% of Hispanics say they would be good at working with computers, compared to 35% of Whites and 35% of Asians.
However, 77% of parents say they do not know how to help their child pursue computer science. This percentage increases to approximately 83% for lower income and non-college graduate parents or guardians. Yet being encouraged to pursue computer science by a parent or guardian is a primary motivator for women, Blacks and Hispanics.
Lower awareness of computer science in Blacks and Hispanics is driven by less access to both people in CS and CS programs, and is a major driver of Black and Hispanic drop-off when pursuing programming as a career path.
Men are 5 times more likely than women to say that they “know a lot about computer programming.”

TechPrep connects people to resources including games, books, in-person opportunities and community events to help learners as well as parents and guardians guide their kids in to computer science and programming. It also includes profiles of real people pursuing these careers.

Parents and guardians are influential figures in students’ lives. By exposing people to computer science and programming and guiding them to the resources they need to get started, we hope to reduce some of the barriers that block potential from meeting opportunity.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Rumour Has It: Jumia Just Laid Off 300 Workers In Nigeria by TechLector(op): 1:38pm On Oct 21, 2015
One of the questions a lot observers on this side of the table are asking is why Jumia is downsizing and the reason why it has done so in the manner being rumoured.

We are still unsure about the firings, but a lot points to the fact that this may be true. For one, the approach in which the firing was rumoured to have been done (and the scale too) is true to Rocket Internet’s script on downsizing. Rocket Internet – the majority investor in Jumia – with the Samwer Brothers at the helms have been known to hire and fire on a whim. In one of many similar actions, Rocket Internet closed some of its offices in Turkey in 2012, firing 400 workers in the process.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Rumour Has It: Jumia Just Laid Off 300 Workers In Nigeria by TechLector(op): 4:25pm On Oct 20, 2015
However, if this is true, that’s about 30% of Jumia’s 1000-person strong workforce in Nigeria. Jumia has not commented on the firings and has yet to release any official statement regarding this, but we have reached out to them and expect a comment.

Hmmmmmm.... Let me Park my bentley here...
Meanwhile, if someone steals the phone and wipes it, *Opari* E don go be that... So what is the essence of the apps?
?
Phones5 Indispensible Android Apps For Security by TechLector(op):
Android no doubt is a wonderful operating system (OS). Over the last few years, it has won the heart of many smartphone users, especially now that the product is relatively affordable and lots of low end products in the market.

While it is a great operating system, it also comes with its own challenges. And one of them is the security of data. A recent report by Google (owner of android) revealed that about 50 malware infested apps have been deleted from the play store (i.e the android market).

This is so because Google operates an ‘app love’ policy which enables third party app developers to add any app to the play store, and this is the reason why android seems to be extremely app loaded. And with this load of apps come security problems. I’ll list below the top 5 security apps that will give you somewhat peace of mind whilst you’re enjoying your smartphone.

McAfee Wavesecure: This is a popular company that has created a niche for itself in the security industry, however unlike just the virus scan or firewall protection which you might have known this company for, this wavescure also comes with some special features which would afford you the luxury of remotely locking your phone(to avoid unauthorized access),you can wipe data from your phone, backup and restore wiped data. You can also track and map your device using GPS. This app is free. (wavesecure.com)

mSecure Password manager: Are you in the habit of forgetting passwords?…you misplace your notepad or so?…not to worry. This app would help you remember or save your password. From bank account numbers, phone pins, etc, you’re covered with this app. It encrypts your data to avoid theft using the 265 bit blowfish technology for encryption. Should you forget its own password, it has a password hint that would give you a clue or security question. If you find it difficult generating passwords, it will do the job for you, by generating strong passwords on your behalf. (msevensoftware.com).

Antivirus Free: This app according to statistics is very popular(it has been downloaded by over 12000 users) on the android market. It also has received an average rating of four and a half (4.5), this is because the app is a straight forward and effective app. Once installed, it scans already installed apps using its own database of malicious apps, if it detects any, it’ll alert you. So I’ll recommend this for detecting malicious applications.(creativeapplications.net)

Titanium BACKUP PRO key: while mSecure protects your passwords, this one backs up your data so you won’t lose it at all. Every application you have on your phone is kept safe because this backup pro backs them up for you. It also encrypts, so no one would ‘steal’ your data. There is a batch verification should you want to freeze apps on your phone. And also,if you want to ‘kill’ apps that take too much space on your android, there is an experimental bloatware melter meant for that purpose.(matrixwriter.com/android).

AppSCAN Beta: Aegislab’s appscan beta is designed to stop you from downloading a malicious file in the first place. It scan about to be downloaded apps for spyware or malware, if any is found it flags them as suspicious. Also, if you hate adverts this app is for you, because it will also scan apps for unwanted adverts.(aegislab.com)

This are just my 5 most recommended security apps for your smart phones. Feel free to add any trusted app you know using the comment area below.

PhonesInfinix Mobility Becomes D Ruling African Smartphone Market With Online Strategy by TechLector(op): 2:18pm On Oct 14, 2015
After the huge success of Infinix HOT, the fastest selling device launched last year, Infinix Mobility, the 3 years old smartphone company which is the No.1 Online smartphone brand in Africa has moved to another level by reaching more hands in Nigeria and all around Africa.infinix

Controlling the market with 2 powerful series
Infinix product range is not as large as its competitors; two series are covering the market – ZERO and HOT series. Under the HOT series, Infinix NOTE product are more likely mid-range devices focused on entrepreneurs who need smartphones as working tool. While the ZERO series offers higher ends devices targeting the developing Nigerian middle class.

Nevertheless, the manufacturer manages to reach its target audience. The smaller product range allows the manufacturer to focus its attention on the research and development of each product.

Infinix Mobility the No.1 Online smartphone brand in Africa sold 157,860 units of HOT 2
The smartphone manufacturer has sold over 150,000 units of its latest device. 70% of sales are driven by E-commerce by passing the need for costly physical distribution networks. While 30% are achieved through traditional channel including operator’s retail stores.

The HOT series offers affordable device below USD100. Infinix HOT series smartphones are designed for youths with a restricted budget. Infinix HOT 2 is the proof that entry level gadgets can provide interesting specs and perfectly fit end users needs. To enlarge its audience even more, Infinix Mobility released two versions of Infinix HOT 2. 1GB RAM at ₦ 17,500 and 2GB RAM at ₦ 19,500.

Software speaking, HOT 2 is coming with the latest operating system in the market, Android Lollipop 5.1. As technology is moving fast, Infinix is following. The smartphone also manages your power and data usage. The device will receive an automatic and free update of Android Marshmallow 6.0 this month.

Recently, Infinix mobility developed its own User Interface (XUI): better design, faster screen responsiveness and energy efficiency. When you have a look at the smartphone market, all manufacturers provide pretty same user interface, that’s where Infinix Mobility stands out of the crowd, delivering customized interface that suits consumer needs.

The company’s approach to e-commerce has really set it apart
Infinix devices come with pre-installed e-commerce applications such as Jumia.com and Konga.com. Mobile applications are popular ways to experiment online shopping. One of the most important factors is that mobile applications consume 3 to 5 times less data than directly browsing. Moreover, access to content is easier and it appears that users spend in average 9 minutes against 6 minutes from mobile version or PC.

Bruno Li Infinix Mobility country manager stated: “Youths are always connected looking for the latest trends. Using the right channel is the key of success, the demand is online.”
Infinix Mobility provides smartphones that come with high specifications at affordable prices. Smartphones are available on traditional retail stores and also on e-commerce platform. Online channel offer up to 10% difference with traditional channel. Products are also supported by service centers across Nigeria. Retail stores such as SLOT and YUDALA are also investing in the online space.
Online, Infinix smartphones are often sold out few hours after the official product launch. This scarcity brings on a lot of excitement on social media.

An active and efficient use of social and online media
Infinix Mobility has a great understanding of how fans use their smartphones. Social media is extremely important to consumers. Recently, Benjamin Jiang the CEO of Infinix Mobility opens up his page to the public https://www.facebook.com/Benjamin-Jiang. In only few weeks, his profile gathers over 3000 fans.
Benjamin Jiang said: “We talk to our fans as they are our close friends. Infinix fans are much more than users, they are our main concern. The most important thing for us is to understand what consumers need, to provide smartphones that fit their needs”.

The success of the No.1 online smartphone brand in Africa is built around online end-users feed-backs. The loyalty of fans is cultivated through a BBS forum owned by the company. Users are welcome to share their suggestions about products through a loyalty program. Sometimes suggestions can be transferred to market facing product improvements. Infinix Mobility is not buying the loyalty of its fan base but definitely earning it.
“How Infinix became the No.1 Online smartphone brand in Africa?” Bruno Li country Manager said: “My answer is customer’s participation. Infinix is not only selling devices, but the desire for its fans to build and be part of High-tech improvement”

PhonesWindows Softwares Will Soon Start To Run On Your Android Phones by TechLector(op): 1:13pm On Oct 10, 2015
What if I told you that even Windows apps can be made to work fine on Android device or tab? Do you remember BlueStacks – a Windows emulator designed to enable Android applications to run on Windows PCs and Macintosh computers. And the process continues, Windows applications will soon be able to run on Android devices with the aid of codeweavers’ CrossOver and Wine.

Different software programs are designed for different operating systems, and most won't work on systems that they weren't designed for. Windows programs, for example, won't run in Linux or Android because they contain instructions that the system can't understand until they're translated by the Windows environment. Linux and Android programs, likewise, won't run under the Windows operating system because Windows is unable to interpret all of their instructions.

Wine has shown a lite version for Android which was first shown off some years back, and work has been going on since then. It is no big deal top you that you can run Android apps on Windows, and soon the reverse will be true also.

What is codeweavers’ CrossOver and Wine?

CrossOver and Wine (recursive acronym for Wine Is Not an Emulator) are free and open source compatibility layer software applications that aim to allow applications designed for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating systems (Mac or Linux OS). They also provides a software library, against which developers can compile Windows applications to help port them to Unix-like systems.

Running Windows applications on Android

However, these open source compatibility layer software applications have their limitations. They will only work on Android x86—Android systems with Intel or AMD processors, also there might be issues with Windows applications not working well with Android’s touchscreen and virtual keyboard. Typical Android systems, with ARM processors, won’t work. That’s because all the Windows binaries out there in the wild are x86 or x64 applications. The app is still in testing mode and the company plans to launch it before the end of 2015.
