PhonesChristmass Giveaway - Best Apps For Your New Android Phone by techtip(op): 2:09pm On Dec 26, 2017
Are you the the type that just got your new android phone, well am going to be sorting out some of the best apps for your new android phone. Your phone might come pre-installed with some apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and some games. Now its time to get serious with some really cool Android apps.
Best apps for your new Android phone

Facebook Lite: Things in this world has gotten faster than anyone can comprehend, so also are some apps, do you care more about speed than features, this app is the simplified version of the normal Facebook app, though some features like calling has been removed it still makes sense, its over 4x faster than the normal app.

Messenger Lite: This also like Facebook Lite is a faster version of Facebook Messenger app. With some features like polls, app integrations, and video chatting removed the app is just too fast.

Pocket: The word pocket should give you an idea on what the it is used for, well its used for saving articles that you find while browsing the web, Twitter, Facebook, and so on so that you can read them later. If you’re someone who likes to read on their commute or catch up on articles later in the day when they’re off work, Pocket’s the way to go. Just pull up Android’s share sheet, tap the Pocket icon, and the article will be waiting for you later.

VSCO: Vsco got the best filter any app can give you, i can bet my house on that.It has an overwhelming breadth of filter options that’ll make your photos look closer to the film masterpieces you envisioned them as, and it has some basic editing tools built in beyond that to finish up your post-processing work.

Gboard – the Google keyboard: There isn’t any match for this Gboard among all its counterparts, one of the best features is that Google search is integrated in this app, that is you can search for things anywhere on your Android. With lots of theme, you could even google a gif using the keyboard. Its just too good.

Greenify: The battery is the source of power of any phone so why won’t you want that battery to last a little longer, though latest OS like Nougat and Oreo now have their set of battery-saving tools and modes, but greenify goes beyond all that. Greenify helps hoe much battery apps use, it kills and freezes apps you tell it when you aren’t using them.

PhonesThe First Real 5G Specification Has Officially Been Completed by techtip(op): 3:14am On Dec 21, 2017
First real 5G specification has been in development for a while, but has finally been officially completed. According to a report from Fierce Wireless, 3GPP — the organization that governs cellular standards — has officially signed off on the first specification for 5G (specifically, the 5G NR standard) at a meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.

The standard format on how 5G networks will look and feel like has also been agreed on seems cool as it would give companies a hard work on what they need to be building.

The finished 5G specification covers a wide range of spectrum, ranging from the 600 and 700 MHz bands to the millimeter wave portion of the spectrum at 50 GHz.

I personally believe setting a target for companies on what 5G networks should look like is just perfect. Companies like T-Mobile and Verizon already promised to roll out 5G by 2018 and 2019. Seems like 5G is really making some serious progress.

You remember the “I Don Get Alat” Song by Korede Bello. Well Facebook now alerts users if they are spotted in someone else’s photo. But to get this feature it has to be enabled. If you enable this feature and you are spotted in another person’s photo even if you are not tagged in the photo, Facebook will notify you.

Facebook also revealed that the functionalities uses the same face recognition technology that currently used to suggest friends you may want to tag in photos.

The company also revealed that they will soon roll out another feature that will notify you if someone is trying to impersonate you in Facebook by using your photo as their profile display picture.

What happens when Facebook doesn’t tell you a friend has died?

However, this feature will be available in all countries except Canada and EU, where Facebook doesn’t offer face recognition technology.

PhonesApple Might Be Slowing Down Old Iphones To Preserve Battery Life by techtip(op): 3:16pm On Dec 20, 2017
Reddit users have noticed that Apple appears to be slowing down old iPhones that have low capacity batteries. While many iPhone users have experienced perceived slowdowns due to iOS updates over the years, it appears that there’s now proof Apple is throttling processor speeds when a battery capacity deteriorates over time.

Geekbench developer John Poole has mapped out performance for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 over time, and has come to the conclusion that Apple’s iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0 updates introduce this throttling for different devices. iOS 10.2.1 is particularly relevant, as this update was designed to reduce random shutdown issues for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Apple’s fix appears to be throttling the CPU to prevent the phone from randomly shutting down. Geekbench reports that iOS 11.2.0 introduces similar throttling for low iPhone 7 low capacity batteries.
Some Reddit users report that replacing their batteries has returned performance and CPU clock speeds back to normal. The reports are particularly troubling because any perceived slowdowns by iPhone users might tempt owners to upgrade their entire device instead of replace the battery. “This fix will also cause users to think, ‘my phone is slow so I should replace it’ not, ‘my phone is slow so I should replace its battery,’” says Geekbench’s John Poole.

Foreign AffairsKaspersky Lab Challenges The U.S. Government Ban On Its Products In Court by techtip(op): 8:16am On Dec 19, 2017
On Monday, Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab announced its intention to push back against the U.S. government’s ban on its software. The ban, which the Department of Homeland Security announced in September, has resulted in a lengthy back-and-forth between Kaspersky and the U.S. government over allegations that the software maker’s products are an asset for Russian espionage efforts.

In a federal appeal filed under the Administrative Procedure Act, Kaspersky Lab argued that the Department of Homeland Security acted unconstitutionally, violating the company’s right to due process when it issued Binding Operational Directive 17-01. The directive instructed U.S. government agencies to “remove and discontinue present and future use of [Kaspersky Lab] products,” including its popular antivirus software.

“Because Kaspersky Lab has not been provided a fair opportunity in regards to the allegations and no technical evidence has been produced to validate DHS’s actions, it is in the company’s interests to defend itself in this matter,” Kaspersky Lab CEO Eugene Kaspersky said in a press release. “Regardless of the DHS decision, we will continue to do what really matters: make the world safer from cybercrime.”

Earlier this month, Kaspersky announced that the company would be closing its D.C. headquarters after deeming them “no longer viable” in light of the U.S. government’s public suspicion toward its business.

Foreign AffairsUS Declares North Korea The Culprit Behind Devastating Wannacry Ransomware Attac by techtip(op): 4:22am On Dec 19, 2017
The US has declared North Korea the perpetrator of the widespread and financially devastating WannaCry ransomware cyberattack that rapidly spread across the globe in May, hitting hospitals, companies, and other critical institutions in countries around the world. The announcement came in the form of an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal authored by President Donald Trump’s Homeland Security Advisor, Thomas Bossert.

News of the administration’s announcement was reported earlier today by The Washington Post, which reports that the White House will be issuing a formal statement tomorrow. It was reported back in June that the US National Security Agency was in possession of evidence that pointed to North Korea. Bossert’s op-ed publicly confirms the NSA’s findings with support from evidence gathered by foreign governments, independent cybersecurity firms, and corporations directly hit by the attack.

“We do not make this allegation lightly. It is based on evidence. We are not alone with our findings, either. Other governments and private companies agree. The United Kingdom attributes the attack to North Korea, and Microsoft traced the attack to cyber affiliates of the North Korean government,” Bossert writes. “The consequences and repercussions of WannaCry were beyond economic. The malicious software hit computers in the UK’s health-care sector particularly hard, compromising systems that perform critical work. These disruptions put lives at risk.”

It’s unclear if the Trump administration will use WannaCry as a way to put more pressure on North Korea via sanctions, as is already the situation with the country’s nuclear program. Bossert concludes his op-ed with the line, “We will continue to use our maximum pressure strategy to curb Pyongyang’s ability to mount attacks, cyber or otherwise,” suggesting the administration is openly looking into measures it can take to combat North Korea’s capacity for cyberattacks. Bossert also says hackers must continue to receive harsh punishments for cybercrimes and corporations likely to be victims of such attacks should step up security and proactively take measures to fight back against malicious bad actors and foreign governments.

PhonesDoes Phone Radiation Give You Cancer by techtip(op): 3:45am On Dec 19, 2017
This question ‘does phone radiation give you cancer” has been around for a while, have heard from a lot of people, from messages on Whatsapp, Facebook and many other social network. It comes from a very reasonable place of discomfort — few people understand how radiation works, we put our phones right beside our brains all the time, and technology in general often feels like it ought to be causing some sort of societal ill.

Cell phones has been around for decades and will still for decades or even centuries. Our current understanding of radio waves says that, in theory, phones shouldn’t give you cancer. Let me start my post in a simple way for easy understanding, by defining radiation.

In physics, radiation is the emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through space or through a material medium. This includes:

Electromagnetic radiation, such as radio waves, microwaves, visible light, x-rays, and gamma radiation (γ)

Particle radiation, such as alpha radiation (α), beta radiation (β), and neutron radiation (particles of non-zero rest energy)

Acoustic radiation, such as ultrasound, sound, and seismic waves (dependent on a physical transmission medium)

gravitational radiation, radiation that takes the form of gravitational waves, or ripples in the curvature of space-time.

Radiation is often categorized as either ionizing or non-ionizing depending on the energy of the radiated particles. Ionizing radiation carries more than 10 eV, which is enough to ionize atoms and molecules, and break chemical bonds.

Read Also: Bing or Google Search: Which one should you prefer

But phone radiation isn’t like the radiation being emitted by radioactive elements. Phones emit a much lower energy radiation (lower even than visible light) that’s considered to be “non-ionizing.” I should however let you know that non-ionizing rays are not capable of tampering or destroying the DNA the way ionizing ray does. But could still react with the body to cause some minor problems due to long term exposure.

Research has shown that there might still be minor chances that you might get some minor diseases due to long-term exposure only. Personally i will say absolute NO! to the question “Does phone radiation give you cancer” because you’re surrounded by cellphone signals, Wi-Fi signals, and all other kinds of radio frequency radiation day in and out — not just when you put your phone up to your face. And also scientifically its prove to be of little or no risk. So just accept the simple fact that phones don’t emit ionizing radiation that causes cancer.

In general, building a good search engine is not an easy task at all, as it takes loads of investment and years of work. As the day progress, we are seeing more number of searching emerging from various places. Out of those, majorly used are Google and the second most is Bing by Microsoft.

Today, we have jotted down the major differences in both Bing and Google that might help you in choosing a good searching for yourself.

Search quality

When it comes to search quality, many users claimed that the quality of the result is better with Bing than Google. This happens because, Google has done some refinements in the algorithm, where it focuses on figuring out what users needs instead of their wants. In this case, Bing always provides the result for basic information. If you are in the marketing industry, Bing will help you in reaching more customers and also provides you with aligned results with what user needs.

Video search

Talking about the video search, Bing has an edge over Google as it fetches better search results for video. This happens because, Google prioritize the videos in search, and filters out the results if it is an adult content. Microsoft's Bing, on the other hand, shows users more videos in its search results, giving you more content.

PhonesApple Let A Fake $5 Cuphead Game Into The App Store by techtip(op): 4:51pm On Dec 18, 2017
A version of run-and-gun game Cuphead unexpectedly showed up on iOS — but it’s a scam.

TouchArcade reported that an iOS version had been published today, linking to what seems like a legitimate App Store app. It’s got real game screenshots, and it lists the seller as Cuphead developer StudioMDHR. But the support page links to “studiomdhrgames.com,” instead of StudioMDHR’s actual site, “studiomdhr.com.” If you buy the game, you’ll see an incorrect name as well: “StudioMDHR Entertainment Inc.”

The site “studiomdhrgames.com” is registered to someone named Walter Gregor, who isn’t listed as a StudioMDHR employee and apparently lives in the city of “Wasinghton, Wasinghton.” (StudioMDHR’s real site is using a privacy-guarding service — as you’d expect from a serious company.) It would also be weird for the studio to quietly break its highly publicized exclusivity deal with Microsoft, especially only a couple of months after release. One Twitter user posted a screenshot that shows StudioMDHR confirming it’s a scam, and StudioMDHR confirmed to us as well. “Fake as hell. We are working on having it removed,” director of experience Ryan Moldenhauer told The Verge.

* Facebook Reveals Browsing Facebook Can Put You In A Bad Mood

You actually can play this version of Cuphead using touch controls, but it’s… a little off. The backgrounds look low-resolution, the animation is primitive. Some basic elements don’t seem adapted to a touchscreen: its menu screen still tells you to “push any button,” for instance.

It’s not too surprising that somebody would try to rip off Cuphead for a platform like iOS. But it’s surprising that Apple would let it slip through its generally tough submission process, when its legitimacy falls apart under basic investigation — especially because Cuphead was one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. The game’s tagline is “Don’t deal with the devil,” but Apple doesn’t seem to have gotten the message.

Update 9:50AM ET: Apple has pulled the app; we’ve got an archived version of the App Store page here. Apple didn’t immediately reply to a request for more details about the submission, or whether buyers’ money will be automatically refunded.

PhonesDid You Know You Can Block Mark Zuckerberg On Facebook? by techtip(op): 2:34am On Dec 17, 2017
Did you know you can block Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook? Up until September of this year, it was a little-known secret that anybody, including Zuckerberg, could be blocked on the site. But after the company acknowledged this, it was discovered that high-frequency profiles — like the one owned and operated by the creator of Facebook — couldn’t be blocked due to an error that tripped up the feature if a page had been blocked by a large number of users in a short period of time.

You’d receive an error message that said something like, “Block Error. Sorry, there was a problem blocking Mark Zuckerberg. Please try again.” This wasn’t intentional, Facebook told BuzzFeed News when the publication first noticed the bug that prevented users from exercising blocking powers against the site’s CEO. It went largely unnoticed.

Matt Navarra, the social media director at The Next Web, tweeted today about his revelation that Facebook’s blocking ability could be used against Zuck. The sheer thrill of removing Zuck’s ability to dip into your News Feed is enough to put anyone on a power trip:

"I just blocked Zuckerberg too, and it feels okay. I wouldn’t say I’m drunk with blocking powers, as I unblocked him immediately after pressing the block button. But yeah, it’s nice to have this ability. I appreciate it, and the recognition from one of the world’s most powerful and influence-wielding corporations that some users may not want to get PR-scrubbed updates from its leader. Thanks, Facebook."

Sure, you all can now block Mark Zuckerberg now, tomorrow and always. You could just test these new feature which i woul like to mimic from Matt, “blocking powers”. Thanks.

PhonesFacebook’s News Feed To Push More Videos To Users, Tweaks Video Ads by techtip(op): 9:05am On Dec 15, 2017
Facebook said on Thursday it would begin to promote videos more prominently inside its News Feed, leveraging the social network’s centrepiece product to build interest in episodic shows and compete more directly with YouTube.

Facebook, in a blog post, also said it was tweaking the kinds of advertisements that run in videos on the network.

Facebook’s News Feed, which comprises posts from friends and businesses, is the first thing its 2.1 billion users see when they open the mobile app or go to the website, making it valuable online real estate.

A complex ranking system determines which posts people see first, and last year, Facebook released a statement of “News Feed values” emphasising that posts from friends and family would come first.

Facebook, though, is investing more money in video. In August it created a video service, called Watch, initially with shows from the likes of Vox and Discovery Communications Inc but with plans to let people submit shows as they do on Alphabet’s YouTube.

With the update, people in Facebook’s News Feed are more likely to see videos that Facebook thinks they want to watch, based on their search history and pages they have liked. They will also see new episodes of a show if they watched an earlier episode.

“Engaging one-off videos that bring friends and communities together have always done well in News Feed and will continue to do so,” the company said in the blog post.

Though Facebook’s revenue is growing quickly and the number of users worldwide is still rising, the company is struggling to keep people spending time on the site and sees video as a possible answer, Pivotal Research Group analyst Brian Wieser said.

“They see that YouTube is still growing, rapidly. Facebook is not. So you can make the argument that they’re trying to increase total time spent,” Wieser said in an interview.

One advertising change announced by Facebook could also increase time spent. In its blog post, Facebook said it would no longer allow ads in the middle of videos unless the videos are at least three minutes long, which Wieser said may encourage companies to produce longer videos.

Facebook also said that next year it would begin testing ads in its Watch service that run at the beginning of videos, known as pre-roll ads, something the company previously avoided.

PhonesHonor 7X Sold Out In The Second Flash Sale – Creates Record Again; by techtip(op): 9:03pm On Dec 14, 2017
Honor 7X was sold out in seconds in the first flash sale that happened last week. The smartphone has yet again received an overwhelming response in the second flash sale. Just like the first sale, all stocks were sold within no time and stocks were closed thereafter.

We are humbled by the response received, yet again, by the consumers with the second flash sale of the Honor 7X and would like to congratulate all those who managed to get their hands on the device. Owing to the great demand, we are ramping up our stocks to look at another sale in the near future” said Mr. P Sanjeev, Vice President Sales, Huawei India, Consumer Business Group.

The Honor 7X, priced at just NGN 105,000 (for 32GB Version) & NGN 140,000 (for 64GB Version), was recently launched at an event in London and had received more than a million registrations for its first and second flash sale.

Honor 7X has turned out to be a favorite among the customers for offering optimal performance at economical price. Just to recall, with its 5.9-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display that delivers a screen resolution of 2,160×1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9, it has one of the highest screen to body ratio.

Under the hood, the smartphone is equipped with an octa-core Hi-Silicon Kirin 659 chipset that is teamed up with 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. There is a hybrid dual SIM slot that supports up to 256GB of expandable storage as well. The battery capacity of the smartphone is 3,340mAh, which is quite impressive.

The Honor 7X flaunts a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. The dual camera system is capable of delivering impressive results with several modes such as panorama, Bokeh effect, and more. The selfie camera is an 8MP sensor.

The connectivity aspects of the smartphone are standard including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and dual SIM support. As the smartphone flaunts a full-screen design, the fingerprint sensor has been positioned at the rear of the device. The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat topped with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1.

Overall, Honor 7X is an outstanding mid-range smartphone, packed with advanced specifications. And now with flash sales in association with the ICICI Bank, Kindle and Airtel, the Honor brand has delivered on aggressive pricing and discounts as well.
