My name is Olaegbe Basit. Am actually afriad of failing a lotta people.
Am this kind of person that a lot of people look up too, kid bro, friends, mom and dad too, i actually overheard my dad saying he was proud of me to someone, and my dad isn't the kind of person who tells you he is impressed.
And there was this my friend in school, we used to be competitors, I carry first, she carry second vice-versa. That year she wasn't able to write post jamb but she wrote jamb, this was due to a problem with the email she used to register for jamb.
I was in her house one day and she asked if I was reading for my post-jamb, and I said not really it isn't near yet. She was now telling that Basit, its you that shouldn't fail me now, you must enter school this year, so goan read your book and stop playing around.
That day my respect for the girl shot up.
And I made up not to fail her.

Phones / Whatsapp Features - Some Key Features Whatsapp Is Lacking Right Now by techtip(m): 10:15am On Jul 17, 2018
Its high time we talked about these Whatsapp feature we wanna have but whatsapp don;t want to give us. When it comes to features, Whatsapp is way behind Facebook Messenger and Telegram. Though some new features had been added recently like Group invite links and also deleting of messages for everyone.

Whatsapp also introduced a business account recently but that isn't the deal, some features which are so cool when had are still missing of the Whatsapp Messenger.
Cool Whatsapp Features we never had

Super Moderator: I use to be an admin on a group, but as a result of me not being able to be online everytime to control member, some take advantage and spam the group with irrelevant links. So I decided if I appoint someone who comes online regularly as admin, this should reduce the spam. But giving the person admin function only made him to be able to remove me.
You see that definitely whatsapp needs a super-admin features.
Bot: Bots should be allowed to feature on whatsapp, although it is said bot are allowed on whatsapp, but I don't believe that because Duta and some few bots are the only bot i ever met, i guess other get deactivated as soon as whatsapp detects them. Bots are doing really great on Telegram and when i say really great i mean it.
Games: I know Facebook Inc is the owner of both Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, so they won't wanna make Whatsapp a complete replica of Facebook Messenger by giving them same feature hereby making them competitors.
But then we Whatsapp users aren't just the social adict we love games and we wanna play some real games, cause we are bored playing duta's hangman and other games duta provides.
Large No of People in a group: Right now the highest number of people allowed in a whatsapp group is 256, which really sucks. As a blogger do i have to create several accounts for suscribers, share my link several times. The bigger a community the more likely it is to develop.
Secret Messages: This are message which are super encrypted, this feature is currently being used by Telegram. I bet whatsapp will do better with it if integrated.

Whatsapp future is at risk because its not following trends, Telegram its major competitor ain't resting, ugrading daily. Telegram beats Whatsapp with virtually everything:

Better end to end encryption
Availability of Bots
Creation of Channels
Secret Messages
Large Member
Anti-Spam Bots
etceteria

Phones / Samsung Galaxy S10 Might Come In Three Sizes, With An In-display Fingerprint by techtip(m): 3:18am On Jul 17, 2018
With the rumors of Galaxy Note 9 still flying around, we’re already moving on to rumors for the company’s next flagship phone: the Galaxy S10. According to Business Insider, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Sunday that he believes the S10 will come in three different sizes: 5.8 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.4 inches.

Those are very nearly the same sizes that Kuo expects Apple’s next series of iPhones to come in, letting Samsung match Apple one for one.Kuo says, the larger two Samsung Galaxy S10 models will include in-display fingerprint sensors while the smaller model will include a fingerprint sensor on the side.
Which definitely means the smaller model is just Samsung’s way of saying “Hello World”, while the larger models will have higher-end specs and features. The Galaxy S9 comes in a 5.8-inch and a 6.2-inch model, with slight differences in specs; the larger model has a second rear camera and more RAM, for instance.

Kuo has predicted that Apple will similarly debut its flagship phone in a range of sizes this year, offering several price and spec options. He believes all three of Apple’s new iPhones will look similar to the iPhone X, with a nearly fullscreen display, save for a notch cutout at the top for Face ID sensors. That’ll make it harder for Samsung’s phones to standout; whereas for this current generation, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus look basically the same as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus from 2014. The next iPhones should be announced in September.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is still a ways away — Samsung usually introduces the line in late February. But the company will have news soon: it’s holding an event on August 9th to announce the Note 9, but major changes aren’t expected.

Phones / Skype Is Getting A Call Recording Feature Nearly 15 Years After It Launched by techtip(m): 8:22pm On Jul 16, 2018
Microsoft is finally adding call recording to Skype. Later this month, will be updated to include built-in call recording. The new feature will be cloud-based, allowing you to access Skype call recordings across devices including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and even Linux.

“Call recording is completely cloud-based, and as soon as you start recording, everyone in the call is notified that the call is being recorded,” explains Microsoft’s Skype team. “Call recordings combine everyone’s video as well as any screens shared during the call.”

The new call recording feature is the first time Skype has had built-in call recording since its original release nearly 15 years ago. Skype users have had to rely on a number of third-party apps to record calls, with Avaer becoming one of the most popular. Microsoft has also started experimenting with a new Content Creator mode for Skype to allow streamers, vloggers, and podcasters to easily integrate Xsplit, Wirecast, and Vmix into Skype.

Skype’s new call recording is part of a number of new features that are coming to the app this summer. Microsoft is even redesigning the desktop client with a mobile-like design for PC users. Skype’s call recording feature will start rolling out at the end of July, and will be available to all the latest versions of Skype over time.

Phones / LEAKED!!!! Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Leak Suggests It Looks A Lot Like The Note 8 by techtip(m): 7:47am On Jul 11, 2018
An allegedly official render of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been posted over at Android Headlines, but the thing is there’s not a lot to see.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has leaked a number of times over the last few weeks, with images surfacing that either show off a grainy view of the new smartphone, a view hidden behind a case, or a depiction of the phone that’s primarily based on known information and not claimed to be authentic.

Unfortunately though the image doesn’t provide basic information, notwithstanding the image will act as a confirmation of what Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will look like. Like the Galaxy Note 8, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will not feature anything of note on the bottom of the phone – with the only noticeable hardware elements positioned on the top bezel.

In summary we would just have no option but to call it a carbon copy of Samsung Galaxy Note 8, having similar features such as identical hardware lineup, with the front-facing camera, iris scanner, earpiece, proximity sensors, and LED flash all literally in the exact same positions.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Note 9 at an event on August 9th.

Phones / Whatsapp Plans To Label Forwarded Messages by techtip(m): 11:37pm On Jul 10, 2018
WhatsApp is now labeling its forwarded messages, in a move that the company hopes will curb some of the app’s viral misinformation problems.

In a blog post published earlier today, WhatsApp announced the new label, which will indicate when a message has been forwarded to someone from another user. The label will apply to text, image, video and audio messages, according to Poynter.

“This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow,” the blog reads. “It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else.”

EU may fine or block Google for making Chrome and Google Search default apps on Android

Prior to launching the feature worldwide, WhatsApp had beta tested these forwarded labels in India — the company’s largest market — and Brazil. More than 300 million citizens use the app between the two countries, and in both, the platform as been linked to enabling the spread of dangerous viral rumors. In India, rumors of child abductions and child traffickers disseminated through the encrypted messaging app have been linked to roughly a dozen deaths since May. In Brazil, meanwhile, some reporters have speculated that misinformation about the yellow fever vaccine spread by the app has caused the disease to resurge in unprecedented numbers.

This update is the latest in the myriad steps WhatsApp has taken to address its fake news problem, including offering cash rewards for researchers studying misinformation spread through the app, and wrangling local law enforcement and fact-checking organizations to fight the fake news propagated through the app.

Webmasters / Amazing New Web Tool Lets You Create Micro-sites That Exist Solely As Urls by techtip(m): 5:46pm On Jul 06, 2018
Former Google designer Nicholas Jitkoff, who’s now the vice president of design at Dropbox, has created a really nifty new web tool he’s calling itty bitty sites, or self-contained microsites that exist solely as URLs. You can create your own by following this URL: itty.bitty.site. From there, you can fill the equivalent of about one printed 8.5 x 11-inch page with any combination of plain text, ASCII characters, or emojis. The actual byte limit depends on where you’d like to share it; Twitter and Slack allow for around 4,000 bytes, while the Mac version of Chrome can accommodate up to 10,000 bytes.

Read Also – How to run the same app in split screen Android Oreo phone

The site isn’t actually hosted anywhere — the entirety of the webpage exists as a URL compressed using what’s known as the Lempel–Ziv–Markov chain algorithm. In an explanation page for itty bitty sites — stores, of course, as an itty bitty site — Jitkoff says this allows for a “significant reduction in size for HTML, and allows for a printed page worth of content in many cases.” From there, the compressed content is converted from binary into a string of characters that can function as a standard web link. The actual data is stored in the end of the link, comprised by everything after the # symbol. You can also share itty bitty sties as QR codes as well, so long as the site can be compressed into about 2,610 bytes.

According to Jitkoff, even this portion is kept private, because a web browser will usually not send that fragment of a URL to a server. “Instead, the web browser (usually) uses them to scroll to the right section of the page when it is loaded,” he explains. Jitkoff doesn’t quite know what people will do with his creation yet, which exists as an open source project on Github. But he does suggest using it for standalone poetry, bypassing Twitter’s character limit, and using it as a clever alternative for domain redirecting, so you can host larger-than-normal portions of text as standalone URLs.

Phones / How To Upload Long Videos Using IGTV App? by techtip(m): 11:06am On Jul 03, 2018
Instagram rolled in a new app called the IGTV app, and also have already started creating contents for this platform. This IGTV app being new, its usage is not well known to most people. If you want to put your content there, then you’re certainly in the right place.
The IGTV feature is available for both Android and iOS smartphones, and apart from that, it can also be used in the web version of Instagram. Supporting a maximum of 60 minutes long videos, though this is meant for only large and the verified accounts. For small scale accounts, the time-span is just 10 minutes.

Now lets get to business, note however if you have a large and verified account and you want to upload a video which is more than 10 minutes using the IGTV app, this would not be possible so you would need to use the web version of Instagram.

How to upload videos to IGTV app from Mobile?
For uploading videos in IGTV, you have first to create an IGTV channel. For creating your IGTV channel, follow the steps given below.
1. Download the IGTV app.
2. Open the app and go to “Settings” and then click on “Create Channels”.

3. The basics of IGTV will now be explained to you, after going through it, click on “Next” and then click again on “Create Channel”. You have now successfully created your channel in IGTV.
How to upload using your smartphone
1. In the IGTV home screen, tap on the profile-icon to see your channel. You can either tap on the “Plus” icon which is placed on the top-right side or directly tap on “Upload Video”.
2. IGTV will now seek little permission, give them the required permissions and then select that video that you want to upload. Please note that IGTV doesn’t allow you to shoot a video from the app itself.

3. After uploading the videos, fill out the details about the videos. Feel free even to change the cover of the video from “Edit Cover”.

ITbomb:
Waste of data
Just because I visit nairaland often doesn't give the bots any right to use my data and be downloading articles from nairaland JUST BECAUSE I MIGHT NEED IT

Phones / Chrome Browser Data Saving Feature Can Now Download News Articles Offline by techtip(m): 4:11am On Jun 25, 2018
Chrome browser eases the way through no more waste of data swiping through some article when chrome browser could virtually download it for you. Google has made this possible as it had added another useful data-saving feature to its Chrome browser. I will croon it Chrome browser data-saving feature.

This new Chrome browser data-saving feature automatically helps you download or save news articles when your device is connected to the internet, so that they can be made available when you have turned off your data connection.

How to block Ads in Chrome on Android

And you don’t have to worry how Chrome will know what to download for you, bots have been getting really crazy these days, Chrome will download these article for you based on your history and also popular contents in your location, say for example, World cup is the trending keyword in Nigeria, its going to download relevant World Cup articles, this sounds cool right.

Read More: Chrome Browser Data Saving Feature Can Now Download News Articles For Offline Access

However, Google says the feature is mainly targeted to its Next Billion Markets (NBU), and has been made available to over 100 countries, including Nigeria.

In conclusion, the feature can be very helpful, especially if you are the type that reads articles a lot. You won’t have to spend and waste data online, but instead they would be present at your doorstep.

Don’t you think that is a great innovation? What’s your say?
