Business / Upwork Vs Fiverr: Where To Start Freelancing. by Techvenge: 8:35pm On Nov 23, 2023
The most important thing you need for freelancing is a skill you will offer to your clients.

The second thing is the platform where you will get these clients.

But...

The sea of the internet is vast and turbulent, with millions of freelancing platforms drifting along its currents.

For anyone embarking on this journey, charting a course can be daunting. But there are two common platforms, among others.

The question now: Upwork or Fiverr?

These behemoths of the freelance world both promise fame and fortune, but which one is right for you? Let's dive in and find out!

I will not waste your time and give you a short answer based on my experience:

Both can be right for you.

Why did I say so?

First, let's look at the way they both operate.

Upwork: On Upwork, you register your account, create your profile, and add your relevant skills.

From there, their algorithms will bring jobs that match your skills to your feed.

When you apply for jobs on Upwork, you must use connects, which are like special tokens. Each job requires a certain number of connects to submit a proposal, ranging from 2 connects up to 12 connects.

Think of connects as tickets to ride the job application rollercoaster. You need enough tickets to take the ride. So be strategic in choosing which exhilarating jobs to apply for with your limited number of precious connect tickets.

What's more?

If you don't find any job that is relevant to you, use the search bar to search for your skills, and available jobs will pop up on your screen.

Let's now look at Fiverr.

On Fiverr: You create your profile and add the necessary information.

But here is the difference...

You have to create a gig on Fiverr. A gig is an opportunity to showcase your skills to potential buyers.

It is the gig Fiverr's engine will rank on their system. So in this case, the client doesn't post any jobs.

Instead, they search for those offering what they are looking for. And if your gig ranks on the first page for the term, you might be lucky to be picked by the client.

But over time...

The line between Upwork and Fiverr has blurred.

These once separate gig platforms now intrude on each other's turf. Freelancers can now have gigs on Upwork, and clients can post jobs on Fiverr.

But the basic mode of their operation remains the same.

Now back to the first question.

If you ask someone who has found success on Fiverr, surely he will tell you Fiverr is better.

And vice versa for Upwork.

Here is what you can do instead:

Why stick yourself only to one platform when you can explore both?

And this is exactly what I did when I started. I had accounts for both Upwork and Fiverr.

But as fate would have it...

I got my first client on Upwork, and from there, I didn't look back to Fiverr.

Although I spent more time on Upwork, and that's because the model seems more reasonable to me.

That is...

On Upwork, you are the hunter, prowling for jobs with your ready quiver of connects. On Fiverr, you are the prey, camouflaged among the gigs, hoping to catch a client's roving eye.

But here is the takeaway:

People have found success on both platforms. And the right platform is not something anyone can decide for you.

Go out and explore them.

Good luck!
Education / The Strangest Secret In The World by Techvenge: 2:54pm On Nov 23, 2023
Ever heard the strangest secret in the world?

The year will cross the finish line soon. And most people will start setting their goals for the new year.

But let me ask…

Do you often set your goals to conform to the society?

Before we talk about the danger of conformity, Let’s see what the “strangest secret in the world” is all about.

It’s a 30-minute motivational audio by Earl Nightingale on YouTube.

Take my word for it…

It’s not like those Instagram wannabes that tell you to take a cold shower or take 10,000 steps per day.

Not any of that nonsense.

The audio explains in clear terms what you need to know about success and failure (or in this case, conformity).

The message has been recorded for over 40 years. And it’s still one of the most powerful and influential messages ever recorded.

But how dangerous is conformity?

Or how is it the opposite of success?

Let me explain with an example we can all relate to.

Surely you recall when we completed JSS3, and then it was time to pick a class in SS1?

There are usually three options:

Science class. Art class. Commercial class.

The crux of the matter is...

More often than not, most people don’t know what they want. They are like wind that can be blown in any direction.

So with these 3 options staring at them in the face, they are left confused.

What do they often choose as their best option?

To CONFORM with their close friends. They follow their friend who is heading to science class like a shell following the snail.
If their best friend is heading to art class, they do the same.

Or sometimes…

Other people use their elder siblings as a roadmap. Another way to FIT-IN.

That’s why at the end of the term…

You see, few students pass with excellent results with minimal effort.

And most of the students?

Struggling not to drown in mediocrity.

And a few others: Thrown out of science class like expired food in the fridge.

This same conformity is an octopus that spreads its tentacle to different areas of life.
How often do we silence that inner voice urging us to push ahead, fooled by the siren song of conformity?

Want to fill a course of study? Most people trail others like following a path.
Place of study? Put in where their mates want to study.

The space of personal thinking is filled with CONFORMITY.

“I have to do like others, I don’t want to be the strange one out”

But for those who want to stand TALL among others.

Who wants to be among the 1%...

There is no space for HERD MENTALITY.

Success is for those who have set ambitious goals before themselves and…

Achieved the GOAL.

They have burst forth from the cocoon of conformity, unfurling the wingspan of their dreams toward dazzling heights.

Want to be a world-class copywriter?
Want to be a large-scale farmer?

Regardless of one's envisioned ambition.

The most important thing is getting there
And the only way to do that…

Is to be responsible for your own thinking.

Because once you conform, at best, you reach other people's goals.

Forever lurking in their shadows.

Education / Personal Account: SS1 Mathematics Journey From F9 To A1. by Techvenge: 8:54am On Nov 18, 2023
When I started SS1 in a new school around 2011, I knew my popularity was poised to soar like a NASA rocket launched into space.

Because my father taught at least five of the teachers during their undergraduate days, including the Principal and the school guardian.
The expectation was for me to excel, especially in mathematics, just like my dad did. I even made a strong impression during the entrance exam, scoring the highest score among all the candidates.

But from the moment I set foot for resumption, it all went down like a waterfall.

When the CA results started trickling in, the signs that this was going to be a bad first term started showing.

At the end of the term, my maths and further maths results glared at me in glaring red ink, a parade of F9s marching across the sheet. It felt as if there was more red on my result sheet than blood flowing through my veins.

I can't recall my dad's reaction to the result, so it won't matter here, anyway.

The holidays were over as soon as they came, and we began the second term.
This time I came determined to slay these giants on my way. I prepared, read, took notes, and any academic advice you can remember.

At the end...

The result was no better. F9 was dancing in red robes in the Maths and Further Maths column again.

The school's policy started racing through my mind: if you fail math or English by the third term, you'll repeat the class. Failure to make it again the following year means you are not fit for the school.

This was the moment I started asking myself, "Was I going to repeat the class while my mates move ahead? A whole son of a mathematics lecturer failing maths,"

I kept wondering what others were doing so that they could get excellent grades.

After all, we are all in the same class, the same teacher, and the same schedule.

What was missing?

These thoughts followed me everywhere I went during the holiday.

Then we resumed the third term. This time again, I came prepared.

This was the last chance. I was entering a boxing ring with mathematics and only one person must come out alive.
I told myself, "I must come out alive. Nothing must stand in my way"

From there, I dissolved myself in mathematics textbooks. During Geography class, I was solving equations.
Break time? I was breaking down mathematics formulas. Siesta period? Not interested. I wanted to see my mathematics book.

Tests came. Exam came. The results were dished out while hot.

My heart was already running above the speed limit. My hands trembled uncontrollably.

My eyes quickly stared at my mathematics grade. And there it was...

C5 staring back at me.

My brain whirred with calculations, attempting to comprehend the grades before me. I actually had 75A for the third term, but the cumulative with the previous terms brought it down to C5.

"Conditional promotion to SS2" was the comment by the class teacher at the bottom of the result sheet.

Health / How Diabetes Occurs in The Body. by Techvenge: 9:56pm On Nov 14, 2023
If you go to the street and ask people what causes diabetes, the answer you are likely to get is SUGAR.

But are they right?

Let's break everything down to find our answer.

First, to understand diabetes, you need to know about blood sugars.

When you eat, your body will break it down into glucose. But this glucose will roam in your blood like a lost kid on the street, where it shouldn't be.

It needs to enter your cells where it provides energy to your body.

The problem is that...

The glucose cannot just enter the cells, their doors are closed like a bank vault.

This is where insulin arrives like a guardian angel, keys in hand, to open the door of the cells.

Insulin will then open the door of the cells to allow glucose to enter. The process works seamlessly in our body without you knowing anything.

In the case of diabetes, glucose has overstayed its welcome in the blood. And the blood is now saying "Hey G, your time is up. You need to go"

And glucose, lost and confused, is saying "Bro, a little more time, insulin will soon be here to take home."

But there is an issue: the body cannot produce insulin. Because there is an autoimmune reaction, the body attacks itself by mistake. This reaction destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin, called beta cells.

This is called Type 1 DIABETES.

Is there Type 2 diabetes? You bet there is.

In type 2, the body can produce insulin. However, the cells have become resistant to insulin. The cells slam their doors shut, stubbornly resisting the turn of insulin's key.

It's akin to returning home after a long day at work, attempting to open your door with your key, only to have the door resist.

The glucose won't be able to enter your cells.

There is no one reason the cells resist insulin, but factors that can contribute include:

Overweight

Obesity

Physical inactivity

Extra belly fat

Genes and family history

Medicines.

What are the signs you need to look for in your body?

The symptoms of type 1 diabetes develop faster than type 2 diabetes. They are usually sudden, developing within weeks or months. Symptoms for type 2 will usually take years to show up.

You can even have type 2 and not even notice any wrong for a long time. But you want to watch for signs like:

Increased urination, especially at night.

Being really thirsty.

Unusual fatigue

Noticing you are losing weight than normal.

These signs are common to many other diseases. That's why regular medical checkup that is recommended for everyone.

So back to our question in the beginning, taking too much sugar on its own will not directly give you diabetes. But it can make you overweight.

That's why moderation is the key to taking sugar. It's the key to taking everything.

Investment / Before You Open Sportybet This Weekend, Read This. by Techvenge: 11:03am On Nov 10, 2023

Nobody bets on football matches expecting to lose. Nope, you open the Sportybet app on your phone, thinking you'll be the next big winner. You look over the odds, place some bets on your favorite teams, and wait for the games to finish. Your goal? To win thousands of Naira. And yet, like the millions who've gambled on matches before you, it never clicks that bookies don't make profits from winners, but from the LOSERS.

What's worse is that these losers are always hopeful. Going back to the app every time to play with hope again. But the bookies are even wiser. They want you to lose your money, but they don't want you to lose hope.

So to keep the flame of your hope burning, they make an announcement of someone who won 50 million Naira with only #100 bet. The news goes viral, and it ignites your dying hope. You thought to yourself, "This could be me one day".

Here's the catch: Your brain, capable of working for you, can also work against you.

How? You see, when you bet and lose money, your brain looks for ways for you to make the money back.

It's like when you lose a game to someone, you will do everything in your capacity to beat them back.

The brains always seek revenge. But the more you seek revenge against those bookies, the more you are likely to lose.

That's not all...

The brain is never satisfied. Remember Oliver Twist who always asks for more? That's the brain.

When you bet your money and, by luck, you win. The brain floods your system with dopamine AKA a feel-good chemical.

Now you want to win more. You want to feel good again. This innocent feeling makes you bring out your debit card and credit the account of these bookies.

Then when you lose, the cycle starts again. When you win, you want to win more. When you lose, you want to make your money back.

The grip of gambling tightens on you. You borrow money, use school fees, house rent, and some even go as far as possible to steal just so they can gamble.

The vicious cycle continues, sinking its claws deeper into your psyche. Your brain tricks you into thinking your big win is just around the corner. But the house always wins in the end.

So before you open that betting app again, pause and think - is this a game you can win? Or are the odds systematically stacked against you? Don't let the bookies manipulate your mind and money any longer. The ONLY way to stop losing is to walk away. Your hope lies not in the next bet, but in freeing yourself from the grip of gambling for good.

The road ahead may be difficult, but reclaiming your life is the only sure bet.

Phones / The best launchers of 2019 for Android smartphones. by Techvenge: 6:04am On Jul 15, 2019
1) Shade android launcher

It’s an android launcher that sticks close to the Google pixel aesthetic but probably the most differentiating features are the themes that can instantly add a fresh coat of paint and smart unread which on your home screen presents you with what it thinks is the highest priority notification.

2) Blackberry launcher

It is not the need to stop there and the full-size ads they put in your app drawer is kind of a kick in the teeth. But I do like how you can swipe up on apps to temporarily open up widgets and the wallpapers that come with the launcher are pretty slick.

3) AIO Launcher.

AIO android launcher basically places your entire smartphone’s capability in a list. This one page shows everything from your frequent applications to a news feed to a voice recorder and you no longer need to pull down your status bar to access most of your phone’s shortcuts.

4) Flick Launcher.

Flick launcher for me was a slightly frustrating experience. On one hand, I love the fact that you get a ton of control and it’s presented in a way that isn’t overwhelming but on the other hand out of the box it looks laughable.

The Android launcher starts by asking you what colours you’re into and ends up creating this Frankenstein of a home screen. With time though, it is a good launcher.

5) Lightning Android Launcher

Next up we have the lightning launcher and you thought you’d seen customization but this android launcher right here is the absolute king of it. Instead of getting multiple different app pages you actually just a single big one which introduces verticality to your setup.

You could have one homepage to the right, you could have another one to the left but then you could also have one below you. It is a bit of a shame though that straight out the box it’s kind of rough looking, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done here.

Education / The Five: Unsung Female Scientists Whose Work were Overlooked. by Techvenge: 6:14pm On Jun 19, 2019
The history of science has often seen women’s work overlooked and their credit stolen.

1) Jean Purdy

Contemporary letters revealed this week that a key figure in the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978, embryologist and nurse Jean Purdy, was excluded from a plaque at the Oldham hospitals involved. Attempts by one of the two men credited with the discovery, Prof Sir Robert Edwards, to include her name were rebuffed by the local health authorities. Edwards was later awarded a Nobel prize.

2) Jocelyn Bell Burnell

The British astrophysicist was a PhD student when she discovered repeating pulses of radio waves after studying months of radio telescope data. These became known as pulsars – spinning neutron stars which weigh more than the sun. Burnell’s supervisor, Antony Hewish, was credited with the discovery and awarded a Nobel in 1974.

3) Alice Ball

While at the University of Hawaii in the early 20th century, Ball worked on a treatment for leprosy (a big problem at the time in Hawaii). She died at the age of 24 and another chemist later took credit for her work – for several decades her treatment was known as the Dean method. Ball was the first woman and first African American to receive a master’s at the university, and also its first female chemistry professor.

4)Rosalind Franklin.

Jim Watson and Francis Crick are widely credited with discovering the structure of DNA. However, Franklin’s X-ray crystallography data was key to the duo’s discovery. Whether they stole her data or merely used publicly available data without her permission is a moot point, but it is generally accepted that when Crick and Watson were awarded a Nobel in 1962, had Franklin been alive, she ought to have been included.

5) Lise Meitner

Lise Meitner with Otto Hahn at Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Chemistry in Berlin, c1935.
Along with Otto Hahn and Otto Robert Frisch, the Austrian-Swedish physicist was part of a trio who discovered the nuclear fission of uranium in 1939. This led to the development of nuclear weapons in the second world war, and later the generation of electricity from nuclear reactors. Meitner was nominated for a Nobel many times but it was Hahn who received the award in 1944.

Phones / Ios 13 System Requirements: Will Ios 13 Run On Your Iphone Or Ipod Touch? by Techvenge: 1:37pm On Jun 04, 2019
iOS 13 has just been previewed, but can your existing iPhone run the new operating system?

Well, if you have an iPhone from the iPhone 6S and above you’ll be fine – also if you have a new, latest-generation iPod touch. The iPhone SE also survives to die another day as it has essentially the same internal components as the iPhone 6S.

What about the iPad we hear you cry? Well, things have got a little more complicated.

Apple has announced it is splitting off the iPad operating system as iPad OS. Apple wants to provide iPad users with more complex, PC and Mac-like features and obviously believes a separate approach is the best way to do this without making the software too bloated for phones.

The finished version of iOS 13 will be available for general download in September but a public beta version will be available in July.

Phones / Re: Google Ban On Huawei : Implication On The Present And Future Huawei Business by Techvenge: 9:51am On May 25, 2019
Cletus77:

Am telling you bro...
The implications will only have a temporary effect because the Chinese will soon launch their own OS and what will become of Android if China's large market plus the African and Asian markets decides to patronize it?

You may be right. But remember that Huawei already sell smartphones in China without Android OS because they are banned there.

The major issue now is how Huawei is going to beat Android at its own market in the west, Europe and Africa. Already they dominate the China market but that's simply not enough. Also, it will take serious miracle to convince developers to move their OS.

More like how do you convince people to leave Facebook and move to another platform, something Google tried with G+ and failed.

Or how do you tell people to abandon Google search and move to your search engine. You see the problem there?

This current move will hit them negatively and their hope of becoming the best selling smartphones in the world by 2020 has been pushed back to an unforeseeable future.

Phones / Google Ban On Huawei : Implication On The Present And Future Huawei Business by Techvenge: 6:17am On May 25, 2019
It’s been a while since the tech world has seen a story so complex and with such serious and far-reaching implications as this.

Even when the P30 Pro was launched, Huawei didn’t dominate the headlines as it has over the past few weeks while it battles against serious threats to its business.

Some may think this story began recently but the truth is, this has been battling away under the surface for years. The US has long considered the Chinese firm a threat to national security.

The accusations that Huawei could exploit alleged backdoors in its network infrastructure on behalf of the Chinese government for espionage actually stopped the Mate 20 Pro from launching in the U.S at the beginning of 2018 after deals with networks fell apart due to government pressure.

The U.S meanwhile continued to call Huawei a threat to national security. An accusation that so far has not been backed up by any evidence shown to the public and one which Huawei has consistently denied saying it will not and will never implant backdoors.

Fast-forward to 2019 and the situation escalated. In January, the US Justice Department filed criminal charges against Huawei accusing it of stealing technology from T-mobile and also alleged that two companies said to be tied with Huawei, along with Huawei CFO Wanzhou Meng who was arrested in Canada at the end of 2018, violated sanctions by clearing transactions with Iran.

READ: WHY FOREIGN TECH COMPANIES ARE BANNED IN CHINA

While Huawei responded by filing a lawsuit against the US government stating that it was unconstitutional to block Huawei from selling its products and equipment in the U.S.

At the same time, foreign governments came under pressure from the U.S not to use Huawei equipment for their 5G infrastructure with the UK currently still undecided about the firm’s level of involvement in it soon to launch 5G Network.

If all this wasn’t serious enough, on May 15th the US Department of Commerce added Huawei to its entity list. This prohibits the company from acquiring US made parts, components and other products from US companies without government approval. This sent shockwaves through the tech world and caught everybody’s attention.

Huawei situation was no longer just about national security and allegations of spying. It has suddenly become a serious piece of leverage in a large politically motivated trade war between the US and China.

Google was the first to comply with the ruling, without the ability to purchase Google licences Huawei would not have access to crucial Android security updates or potentially Google services for future devices.

At this point, the drastic move was quickly revised by the US government and a temporary general license was issued until August 19th allowing Huawei to maintain existing commitments and purchase licenses for existing products.

Intel, Qualcomm and perhaps most importantly ARM have also complied with this ruling. ARM is key because its processor architecture is used to build the Kirin mobile processor used in almost all Huawei smartphones including the p30 pro and the Mate 5G folding phone.

Without a license to use ARMs architecture, without a license to use Google services on Android or the ability to buy any components it may need from US companies. Huawei smartphone business in the West could be crippled if the situation is not resolved.

Huawei, however, is not perturbed by these events the company founder has been quoted by the Chinese media by saying it won’t experience a supply shortage and that is very well prepared. in China, it already sells millions of smartphones without Google services because they’re banned there.

It already has its own App Store and is spoken about developing a smartphone operating system presumably for use outside China without Google’s involvement. This story is changing by the day so as you read this further event would have almost certainly taken place.

But what does all this mean for the Huawei smartphone in your hand? Well, at the moment Google Play and play protect updates will continue but after August 19th if nothing has changed, main Android software updates will stop and the software on your Huawei smartphone will remain as it is on that day.

Beyond that time and because the story is constantly evolving, it’s difficult to predict what will happen next to Huawei, its current smartphones and any future products.

Unless the situation is resolved quickly Huawei will become a very different company than it was even at this time last year.

Phones / 5 Things To Consider When Buying A New Smartphone. by Techvenge: 4:04am On May 06, 2019
1) IOS or Android.

The first thing you need to decide on how to buy a phone is to answer the question “whether you want to use an Android or iOS.” This might sound pretty common sense but really what you want to think about is do you want to customize, do you really want to dig into your phone and have a robust file system then you definitely want Android.

Also if your aim is to have more freedom feeling phone, if only you feel like you can tweak and do whatever you want at your own risks then you should definitely consider an android phone.

However, if you want a very secure operating system that you know you could count on each and every day that is going to be very fast, fluid and reliable then you want to really take a look at IOS.

If you’re the type of person who wants a more simple phone to use. In my opinion, you should either look at the Google Pixel series or the iPhone, these two are the most simple phones that you can buy right now.

2) Price.

The second thing you want to consider when you want to get your next smartphone is the price. Here, we are talking about value for price. Now you don’t just look at a premium smartphone and think like oh I don’t need that type of phone when you might just need that much phone.

This depends, if you’re a person who has a laptop and a tablet and are both powerful enough for your needs then you might not actually need a $1000 smartphone to do everything. It is worthy to point out that a lot of people will buy an iPhone X and also buy a Galaxy S8 just for a fashion statement or just to have the best in their pocket.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But when we’re talking about value for money, do you really need that? Well again, in my personal opinion, I would say if you have a strong and durable laptop you don’t really do.

If you are the type that doesn’t really use your phone for all your work-related stuff, you don’t use your phone for all your photography or you don’t use your phone for stuff that can really bring you back the money out of the phone then you might want to consider a phone in the range of $500 – $700.

3) Size.

Next up on how to buy a smartphone, after you consider the ecosystem and price for value, is the size. Without a doubt, there are a ton of big phones as well as smaller phones. But you want to consider how big is your hand before you buy a new smartphone.

Now, if you have really small hands you definitely want to take a look at the iPhone SE. It’s one of the only phones on the market that rocks well with small hands, also you could take a look at the Sony’s XE compact series which is also a nice phone and it got a wide-angle camera.

However, if your choice is larger devices, you should definitely take a look at what Samsung has to offer in the S9 or the S8. These phones are really putting up a nice big screen and an almost a perfect form factor small body just like the Pixel 2. You could see it has big bezels but it’s about the same size as the Galaxy S8 or the LG G6, for example, a small body but a big screen just like the iPhone X.

You have to decide on the size. Do you want a big screen or a small screen? If you want something that’s not as small as an iPhone SE or XE compact, take a look at the Pixel 2 or the iPhone 8 these two are some of the best you can get in the small size phones.

4) Phone Features.

After that, let’s take a look at the features that matter the most to you. Do you want a great camera, great battery life or do you want a great screen? Most of the phones you will be seeing will offer those things in one package but don’t discount older phones because older phones have great cameras as well.

Like the S7 Edge, it still has a dual pixel AF camera, although it might be a little bit older looking than the newer phones, you’re going to get a similar camera as the newer phones. You can actually get a good camera on a one to two-year-old flagship. If you are in the market for great battery life, I definitely want to recommend Samsung’s devices I think they get better battery life right now than the iOS side.

In this guide on how to buy a smartphone, we will use the Note 8 for example of older phones that still offers premium value. The phone could keep going and going. Pixel series also does very well with the optimizations to Android 8.1. If you care a lot about software updates, you should pick the IOS, go with basically any iPhone it’s going to work well.

5) Underdogs Options.

One of the best ways on how to buy a smartphone is to look at the underdog’s options. This is going to save you a lot of money here in 2019. Take for example the LG G6. Of course, you’re not going to get your money back that much out of the device but you could find this phone at under $300. Do you believe that?

When you compare the LG G6 and the iPhone X side by side, you will notice some similarities between them such as the dual cameras, similar size form factor and both have screens that are really nice in a small body and you’re going to get that for less than most of these premium phones.

Just because LG is not a popular brand anymore and they’re just not competing in the marketing with Samsung and Apple but doesn’t mean they’re not making equally as great phones, they pretty much are.

You know LG v30 is also plummeting in value so you can get an LG phone for much less money and you’re going to get a similar experience so consider that underdog brands even Oneplus for example.

Phones / The Difference Between Snapdragon And Mediatek. by Techvenge: 6:01am On May 02, 2019
If you are one of those guys planning to buy a new phone and you are really confused about whether to buy a phone running on Snapdragon or MediaTek chipset this post is for you.

As against what many of you think, Snapdragon and MediaTek are not just processors, they are called system on a chip or SoC in technical term. So what exactly is an SoC? It is a single chip which contains your CPU, GPU, cellular modem, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth modules etc.

Now if you are wondering why your old phone doesn’t support 4G that’s probably because it doesn’t have the necessary radio sensors built within its SoC. So it is important to know what SoC is used in the smartphone you are planning to buy. The two leading SoC makers at the moment are Qualcomm with its Snapdragon range and MediaTek with its MT chipsets. That leads us to a question.

Which SoC is better?-MediaTek Or Snapdragon
.

To answer this question, we need to compare the chipsets and find out what’s the difference between them. Considering the CPU, both Snapdragon and MediaTek processes are based on architecture. It is an architecture that is designed primarily for low energy consumption, for example, a typical quad-core processor has two high power cores for high performance and two low power cores for low energy consumption.

Now you may be wondering if both chipsets use the same architecture what’s the difference? The main difference is that MediaTek doesn’t tinker with the architecture whereas Qualcomm modifies architecture to optimize its chipset for better performance and low power consumption.

Considering the GPU, Qualcomm uses its own Adreno GPU in its chipset while MediaTek uses Arms Mali GPU. Both the GPUs are great but developers usually prefer Adreno to develop and test their games, so some apps and games will not be compatible with phones running on MediaTek Mali GPU.

PERFORMANCE
.

When it comes to performance. There is no comparison since MediaTek concentrates mostly in the budget segment whereas Snapdragon, on the other hand, is the standard chipset for all high-end phones. So how does Snapdragon chipset achieve high performance? The secret is heterogeneous computing.

Let me explain with an example, if we use the camera app on a Snapdragon chipset there is a separate camera module that processes the images and this utilizes less battery whereas in MediaTek processor both CPUs and GPUs are involved in image processing, this leads to more heat dissipation and faster battery drainage.

MediaTek believes in profit from volumes rather than bigger profits from selling lesser units. This is what has made the company the go-to chipset manufacturer for low-cost handsets, on the other hand, Qualcomm Snapdragon is all about cutting-edge technology and is a bit pricier.

Due to this reason, phones using Qualcomm chipsets are usually much pricier than the MediaTek counterparts.

So, finally which chipset is better? There is no simple answer for this, it really depends upon your usage and the price you are willing to spend. Go for MediaTek based devices if you are looking for budget smartphones. On the other hand, when your budget is higher going for a Qualcomm port smartphone is a better idea.

Phones / Why 5G Isn’t Quite What You Think. by Techvenge: 4:35am On Apr 10, 2019

Pretty soon everything else will be 5G, if you’re reading this you probably have an internet connection but what if we told you it could be so much faster.

Fast like a cheetah with a rocket tied to its back, 5G is here but what is it and will it live up to the hype.

We have the facts

5G means 5th generation and it solves the biggest problem holding back 4G, that is, latency or lagging speed. Our phones today operate at about 50 milliseconds of latency, 5G, however, runs at less than one millisecond of latency you will just have to trust that means really fast connection.

Assuming a speed of 10 gigabytes per second, in 5g it would take less than a second to download a one-gigabyte photo and with all your free time it takes only another 30 seconds to download the entire first season of Game of Thrones in HD.

This transformation rewrites the future in countless ways and it already has a name the “Internet of Things or IoT” and everything from remotely controlled surgeries to super smart homes to truly autonomous vehicles will be connected but to achieve instantaneous speeds the infrastructure must come with it.

5G networks require a completely new system of cell towers that operate at a different frequency that must be positioned closer to people’s homes and businesses to repeat their signals.

The world’s leading economies are all vying to be the first to go 5G on a national scale and experts say the US, China and South Korea are the frontrunners for an economic boost of 500 billion dollars and 3 million new jobs but there’s a catch, building the infrastructure will cost lots and lots of money.

For example in South Korea, with a small population and great infrastructure, the cost of 5G is set to exceed 8 billion dollars for a single service provider and according to Bloomberg the upgrade to 5G would cost 200 billion dollars a year in order to be built.

In the USA, AT&T became the first wireless carrier to launch a mobile network based on the 5G standard, it went live in 12 cities on December 18th, 2018 but it’s not fully operational yet.

Once it is, however, AT&T said it will charge consumers $70 per month for 15 gigabytes which is not exactly cheap and t-mobile promised to have 5G up and running in 30 cities with actual usage starting this year and Verizon plans to release a 5G hotspot as well.

Mobile companies will do their best to market and advertise their efforts for the latest 5G enabled phone.

We’ve seen this before with the transition from 3G and 4G, if you remember after 4G was rolled out it took some time before we saw a significant speed increase. So give yourself time before diving headfirst into 5G related products.

That 5G enable phone is no better than the current 4G without the infrastructure upgrades so beware of the early rollouts that use 5G buzz words or other gimmicks like ultra-wideband, 5G+ and 5G evolution. They may not actually give you the speeds that 5G promises and get ready for more confusing names with 6G Wireless and 10G broadband just around the corner.

The momentum for 5G is coming fast but not quite cheetah with a rocket fast and even so it’s slated to be pretty awesome.

Phones / Apple’s WWDC 2019 Keynote Date Is June 3, And Ios 13 Will Take Center Stage by Techvenge: 6:20am On Mar 18, 2019

Apple has officially revealed that its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2019) will start on June 3, per 9to5Mac. This is about when we expected, given the event has happened on the first Monday in June for the last couple years.

WWDC 2019 will once again be in San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center, where it’s been held for the last two years.

If you want a shot at getting in, Apple’s using its traditional lottery method for tickets. Starting today and until March 20, you can register for a shot at getting in – after which you’ll have to pay $1,599 for the ticket to get in.

If the last few years’ events are anything to go by, we expect to see software (and only software) announcements at WWDC 2019. Most of these will likely be updates for operating systems across Apple’s suite of mobile devices and laptops/desktops.

The big announcement will almost certainly be iOS 13. While iOS 11 fixed a lot of issues and bugs, and iOS 12 refined stability and sped up older iPhones, the next version is expected to bring some long-awaited features like dark mode and a home screen/interface redesign.

As in years prior, we also expect Apple to announce new versions of watchOS, tvOS and macOS at WWDC 2019 that bring updated and additional features.

Probably the most important question is: will WWDC 2019 excite us? The last couple years didn’t ‘wow’ us much, and even the new hardware – iterations on the Apple Watch, the HomePod – didn’t raise too many eyebrows. And given the conference comes a month after Google IO (kicking off May 7), Apple’s got its work cut out for it.

Phones / The Best Smartphones From MWC 2019. by Techvenge: 6:51am On Mar 06, 2019
7) Energizer PowerMax p18 k-pop

This is a big phone literally. The Energizer PowerMax p18 k-pop it’s a long name but the name explains it all, you get a whopping non-removable Li-Po 18,000 mAh battery with fast charging and a follow-up module with two selfie cameras.

Other than that, the phone packs are MediaTek processor, 6 GB of RAM 120 GB of storage and it runs on Android 9 pie. I guess you could say that it’s more power bank than a phone at this point and the device does look like a brick, either way, it’s impressive

6) Nubia Alpha

Popularly described as the smartwatch pretending to be a smartphone, the wearable phone the Nubia Alpha really does materialize our wishes of having a smartphone you can wear and it doesn’t disappoint with a four-inch OLED display, the Nubia Alpha has a 500 milliamp-hour battery that can last two days. It also supports voice commands and gestures and then I mentioned it looks really cool.

5) Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

Number five goes to Xiaomi, now that 5G is highly anticipated this year Xiaomi decided to introduce a new 5G variant of the Mi Mix 3 and this is very interesting because Xiaomi is known for coming out with high spec phones at low prices.

The Mi Mix 3 5G so far comes with a 599 Euro price tag beside that, it has a slide-out camera, Snapdragon 845, up to 10 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage,

Availability for the variants, of course, will depend on your region.

4) LG V50 THINQ

The LGV 50 Thinq is not exactly a foldable phone but it does have two screens. You have the option to use through screens if you want or just use it as a regular smartphone, it is a folding phone but it doesn’t have to be.

It has a 6.4-inch secondary display which is kind of the dual screen accessory the v50 thinQ is also one of those phones that boast ultra-fast 5G.

3) Sony Xperia 1

The number three is the Sony Xperia 1. 19 by 9 displays are dead at least according to Sony, the Xperia 1 has a 6.5-inch 4k OLED display tuned by the Bravia team that has a really tall 21 by 9 aspect ratio.

The thinking behind this is that Sony wants to bring the experience of a TV onto your smartphone. Under the hood, it has a Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Aside from the Xperia 1, Sony also introduced the Xperia 10 and 10 plus which are mid-range phones that have the same 21 by 9 screen.

2) Nokia 9 Pureview.

We have a comeback from Nokia and this time, it is the Nokia 9 Pureview. It has a whopping total of five 12 MP camera lenses at the back, two of them are dedicated RGB cameras while the other three are for capturing black-and-white data.

This innovation is expected to boost your photos to give you more details and lifelike images. Other specs include a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy S10: All You Need To Know by Techvenge: 2:40am On Mar 05, 2019
The Samsung galaxy S10 is flagship phone of 2019 so far from Samsung and as it turns out its actually three phones. There is the Samsung Galaxy S10, the galaxy S10 plus and the galaxy s10e so three new phones each of them familiar in many ways as a Samsung phone but each of them also have their differences so first off here we going to focus on the two main ones, that is, the flagships the Samsung galaxy s10 and the galaxy s10 plus.

You can bet they do look pretty good I mean no one ever thought Samsung phones were ugly at all but these look quite nice we kind of saw this coming from the renders so first off the new stuff for the galaxy s10. There are three main improvements and then a lot of small ones but the main ones are the display, the fingerprint sensor and the cameras.

Display of the Samsung Galaxy S10

So the new display it’s simple, it’s got a 6.1-inch display for the s10 and a 6.4-inch display in the s10 plus and they continue the tradition of Samsung having literally the best displays in any phone for a couple of years running now and it continues to get even better.

That means, you have a 90 plus per cent screen to body ratio now and it’s still a super-high resolution with a 19 by 9 tall aspect ratio but it’s now also HDR 10 plus certified and they’ve changed the name a little bit they’re calling it a next-level infinity display but still it goes right up to the very edges.

You have the camera cutout right in the top right corner as we’ve seen in all the leaks, it is a laser-cut hole in the AMOLED panel to precisely cut this hole for just the camera to come through and nothing else and it’s a single 10 megapixel selfie camera for the galaxy s10 plus, it also comes with an additional depth sensor next to it for the dual cutout in the S10 plus, sadly, so no ultra wide selfie camera.

It seems like Samsung’s cutout is maybe a little, just a little bit smaller than honors. It’s not too distracting it pushes the battery and the signal indicators over from the right edge.

Samsung cleverly included a bunch of wallpapers that are slightly dark in the top right hand corner to make the whole bunch less jarring and they also draw some fancy animation around the cut-out when you switch to the front-facing camera so I guess they’re kind of embracing it so there it is, Samsung can now say they’ve technically never done a notch.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Fingerprint.

The number two main new thing is the new fingerprint sensor, Galaxy S10 has officially moved to the ultrasonic under the glass fingerprint reader which is pretty dope so you see the word ultrasonic in there and that’s not just a name they’re just making up. It’s actually means something as far as the technologies use for you and me.

Although we’ve had under the glass fingerprint sensors in phones before namely in phones like the Oneplus 6t, they’ve mostly been optical fingerprint sensors shining a light on your finger to actually read your fingerprint. This Samsung galaxy S10 ultrasonic ones don’t use that so they have a couple of vintages.

1) They’ll be faster

2) They don’t need to shine up super bright light on your finger to read it so it’ll be way less annoying and dim light or at night and

3) It can read the fingerprints before waking up the display at all that is a pretty sweet feature.

So that’s the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor we are looking forward to using them so then that brings us to
number three the third main new feature with galaxy s10 which is the cameras.

The Samsung galaxy S10 Camera

So galaxy s10 now has the triple cameras on the back which mean Samsung is finally doing the three different focal lengths i.e one main camera, one telephoto and one super wide which is slick we have been waiting for that and hope Apple gets on this train next.

But the new cameras on the back are already welcome, the main camera is a 12-megapixel sensor, dual aperture F/1.5 or 2.4 with OIS then the telephoto is also f/2.4 and has OIS and the ultrawide it doesn’t have OIS but you hardly need it at 123 degrees anyway and it opens up to F/2.2. We hope everyone adopts some sort of ultra wide camera.

You can sort of seamlessly zoom between the cameras and it’ll switch automatically which camera you ran depending on how far you zoomed in it also keeps the intelligent camera with the improved scene recognition and all that honestly it’s looking like a winning package in the camera Department

Phones / Amazing Impact Of Smartphones On Business by Techvenge: 1:11am On Mar 03, 2019
Smartphone Apps for Commerce

One of the strongest features of smartphones is their use of applications or apps. These little programs help customers check up on their favourite stores and services with a simple push of a button.

Businesses have also used apps to help themselves market, use accounting services, and easily check stocks to determine investment opportunities at a drop of a hat. More information and easy access have greatly profited businesses.

Business Text Messaging

With the popularity of the smartphone also came the preferred use of texting over phone calls. Texting has allowed people to passively communicate on their own terms.

It has also allowed businesses to utilize business text messaging between their stores and their customers. Almost 90% of customers prefer to engage with a business via text messaging than other methods.

Not every customer likes to have an in-person conversation. Texting makes the experience far more convenient for them and has benefited businesses also by improving their customer relationships.

Accessibility in New Markets

Another aspect where smartphones have impacted businesses in a huge way is allowing them to easily access new markets. Nowadays, a savvy business can even find customers in third-world countries where they might not have been able to make a profit before.

Smartphones have increased connectivity. With phone plans making phones themselves quite cheap, practically everyone has one regardless of what country they’re in.

With applications designed to translate, language barriers are broken down and businesses can sell their products in non-native speaking countries.

Increased Attention to Social Networks

Many businesses have wisely used social media as a means to expand their advertising and marketing with little cost. Social media remains a strong avenue for businesses to reach their customers and inform them of sales and promotions that can bring customers to their doors or to their website. It’s also a great way to keep them informed about any new product lines or services that the business is developing.

There is also the customer interaction part to consider. Customers can interact with representatives directly and have their needs and concerns met in real-time. This wasn’t always possible before smartphones and their close relationship with social media.

Smartphones have utterly changed the way people function in today’s society. It has created an environment of connectivity and easy access to information. For businesses, it has allowed them to forge stronger customer relationships and new chances to enter into new markets.

1) Yahoo Weather Apps

Of the majority of the weather apps available for download, this could easiest be the most pretty of all. First, you would notice this weather app have beautiful background images that are pulled from Flickr, which is not surprising given that it is a picture service by Yahoo. Yahoo weather app was Released in 2015 and the app has amassed a total of over 10M downloads and with an average rating of 4.4/5.

The free to use weather app allows you to check the latest weather hourly, 5-day and 10-day forecasts. It has a great layout which allows you to check multiple location weather. You scroll up and down to get weather information about one location and you scroll sideways for forecasts about multiple locations. The app also sends notification about the weather to users twice a day. The Yahoo weather app is available for free download from the play store for a little over 20MB.

2) AccuWeather

This is perhaps the most popular and most downloaded among the weather apps. Although the app is m0netized with ads which can be at times annoying due to the way it pops up. You can, however, get it all removed for a one-time purchase of $3.99.

The unique feature of this weather app is the Minutecast which shows you live precipitation minute by minute i.e you can know exactly how minutes more until it starts to rains.

3) Dark Sky

It also has a radar view in an animated version that will definitely appeal to fans out there. Some downside to the app include the fact that to access premium features, you would part ways with $2.99 yearly and the app is only available to users in the US, UK, Ireland and Puerto Rico.

4) 1Weather

Other weather metrics are also avaiable just like you will find on other android weather apps. The app provides the option to get a 12 week weather forecast also known as the PRECISIONCAST which means you can make plans for up to three months and know the weather condition in mind. For users in the US, you get to recieive notifications when there is severe weather condition through the National Weather Service.
