OP needs to press the power button until phone turns off, and comes back on. Then he should leave the power button when he sees the Apple logo.

OP's phone is old. It's inevitable that it slows down at some point. That phone is at least as old as the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Try using an S8 this much and you'd see that it would have a similar result.
