I'm an introvert too, but I also have severe Social anxiety disorder. sad

What kind of help should I seek out? Psychologist or psychotherapist? Or are they the same..

Also can someone suggest where I could get this sort of help in Lagos, preferably on the island.

Help.

Well, I don't think you really need to see anybody, depending on how strong you are.

You only need to build your self esteem, dress well and appropriate for every occasion, rehearsing/knowing what to say in particular situation, you might need to go out often with friends and family (people u can say anything or act anyhow to) etc

These stuffs only happen when we're scared of fuckin up or looking/sounding awkward. So

Epositive:

I'm struggling to combat with stage fright. Several times, I will dodge presentation for my department. My course mates do believe in my academic strength and how grammatic I could be in our group chats. Little do they know that, that's where my "capability" ends. They think it's pride. I also don't like answering questions in class, even when it will "liberate" my department from shame (as we have like 5 other agricultural departments taking same courses as we do and lecturers can be specific when dishing out questions in class). I used to be eager to be the "saviour" in my primary and secondary school days but it's different now.

Now, the problem is, I don't have a loud voice. You can barely hear me from the end of the room. Again, I find myself stuttering and energy-drained when in a (long) conversation, even with very familiar persons.

I will be in 300L in weeks to come and I want to get rid of this phobia as soon as I can. I'm in my early 20s.

I used to have this problem too, check this out;

1- Strong determination - I've always had this dream to go into academics. How would I become a lecturer with such attitude, how would I present, defend my assertions, address protesting students etc, I said to myself 'Oh Man, You Need To Be Strong'
Then I would raise my hand in class to answer question, did a little politics (I was our class honourable/SRC), led my group pre&post data presentation and final defense and now I'm teaching as a Corper.

2- Preparedness - Just like the Scout motto 'Be Prepared'. Before raising your hand, talking to them or going up that stage, you need to be really prepared and confident of what you'll say and likely questions that could be asked. Sometimes you can jot down the main point and practise very well before you go up, but pls don't cram.

...during our professional induction, the anchor just came to me and said "give me your name, when prof is done talking, I'll call you to come and do the vote of thanks.....
If I haven't gotten off the 'stage shii' I would've disgraced my ancestors that day, lol

hello introverts,

Going through these posts made me understand a couple of things about myself. However, my character baffles me. i may term it spiritual.

Heres the thing. i have been struggling with finding happiness in people or myself. i sometimes just drive to a park alone and watch people smile and laugh and wish i could do that. i have tried having friends but in the end happiness doesnt come through. i finally resorted to spoiling myself with choicest of gifts, this seemed to have worked for sometime but the whole fun phase dropped.
To be more descriptive, i am a single dude with 6 cars, two quad bikes and a power bike. which were gotten in quick succession all to keep the flow of happiness going.
i have received criticism from both friends and foes alike. My colleagues think i am insane, neighbours always find a way to get on my nerves cos i am the only single dude in the compound and a host of other issues that arise day to day.

Presently , its just a lack of taste in life now. i dont see any reason for me to hustle like my peers and make money. running all the machines takes a good portion of my pocket and i dont want to be a wreck and all.

i apologize for venting via my long intro but this should just be the first time i am introducing myself in reality. its really frustrating. People around me seem so happy and expect me to be swimming in happiness but its the reverse. sigh.

Anyway, i am a virgo and firstborn if this helps. if anyone's in my shoes. i did like a quote on this because it would go a long way to make me believe i am 100% normal human.

Sometimes, our interests could help, but people don't know.
No matter how introverted you are, there will be some things that really interest. You can pick these things up and make fun out of them, by so doing you'll meet people that also love those things; be free, chat with them, have fun and all.
Example; if you like basketball, you can always take like a day or two to go and play. You'll meet people like you there, you chat, have fun and all. You can even meet a future partner, we can't say
Yours could be football, music and shows, movies and theater, visiting natural heritages etc

Hello Introverts!

I've been scared of dropping my comment here.... Well, it's good to be here.

I'm an introvert... lemme say ambivert (but 80% introverted). I prefer being on my own. I cherish my solitude. When I come out of my shell, I take the lead. It's so funny I love leadership. I took the lead all through my uni days but always looked for a quiet place to refuel myself.

Sometimes, my social battery runs down faster than I can imagine. Also, I've never been in a relationship and I ain't planning on being in one soon.

Finally, sometime in 2018, i found solace and tranquility in penning my pains, fears and rejection. I wrote poems that emanated from the pains, oppression, depression and rejection happening in my surroundings.

Am I welcome here cheesy ?

You welcome mann

Men are the ones sleeping with the so called girls with questionable past, na them dey carry ashawo up and down but they always want to marry a clean fresh untainted virgin.
Very ironic abi hypocritical, I dont know which one is the right word to use sad

Forget our hypocritic morality....Sleeping with girls, carrying Olosho etc, what's the big deal in that if you've fulfilled your obligation?
They've chosen that as their business, you patronize and pay them. #business
If a man wants a Virgin-wife, that's his choice and he shouldn't be criticized for that.
If man no dey patronize, how Olosho wan dey take chop". The only thing that bothers me is the case of underage girls getting f'cked up.....

@bold

That was why I created this thread.

The fact a girl is now an olosho does not negate the fact that she was raped as a child.

When a child is raped, they react in different ways:

1. They have relationships however hate sex or frigid

2. They hate men and become lebsians

3. They become asexual

4. They associate sex with love (remember most pedos butter up their victims first) and have sex with every man that comes their way looking for that love and validation

5. They associate sex with power and have sex just to have men do their bidding.

6. They enter abusive relationships or have a warped sense of relationship.

7. They always want to relieve the sexual experience and become nymphomaniacs

The fact girl A became a nympho; girl B became a les, girl C became frigid and girl D became an olosho does not negate their experiences.

It is for them to get to the bottom and heal themselves or seek help.

I can't agree less with you, you made a valid point to be realistic.
But in reality 'you can't trust these girls'. They're mostly looking for a way to coverup there messed up past or bad upbringing, therein, you don't have any way to validate their claim.
When you check things out, go to some core areas or city, and see how small small girls dey misbehave sexually, you won't have any benefit of doubt for the matured ones..

But what we need is sexual education, parental education, a distinct moral structure, good mental rehab (for victims) and strong legislation against rape.

LOL. I was out with 2 friends yesterday, they now pointed a girl to me jokingly. I replied 'guys, this is child abuse, this one wey be like JS3 students'
One of them responded 'she fit look like JS3 student facially o, but down dow she be postgraduate student guy grin'
It's our fvcking mentality

@ bukatyne
I think we're all/every sensible person should be a bit selective on who and what we believe. We tend to judge people with their physical appearance and comportment/personality.
You don't expect me to believe a well known Olosho that she was sexually abused or raped at a tender age...because that's their usual line, these days. They'll always find a way to justify what they're doing or play on your emotion.

Well, if a cool, normal girl said that, I could give her benefit of doubt.
We all created this problem bcoz we want to be doing holy holy. What's the big deal in not being a Virginn of having sex as a matured person.

Hmmn this thread ehn

If I start my own, everywhere go full. But I'm in a relationship though. I've been with this girl since my university days (100l sef) and she's a very cool and lovely type. But most times, I just get tired and feel like being on my own and all. I've actually 'broken up' with this girl several times, but she just won't let go....she's this strong and determined type. In short, she's the reason we're still together after all these years.
I've had funny/interesting experiences with other girls too (they'll tell u that cool and brilliant boy). Mehn, e no easy o.

I've always been with my phone, TV and jotter (not diary, keeping diary is maddd) since I've been around for holiday. I don't leave this house expect for Chelsea's match and Mosque.

It's cool to find peace in yourself, to enjoy your own company, to have time for yourself and reflect, to mind your business and all...but it's necessary we find a way to balance it with life demands....

Islam for Muslims / Can A Muslim (CEO) Give/Receive Christmas/End Of The Year Gifts??? by TeeBabss(m): 8:51am On Dec 24, 2019
As-salam alaekum brothers and sisters.

This is December time and it comes with a lot of buzz and confusion all round, especially in the religious sense (as a Muslim).
Well, this is not our religious calendar, but this is what we follow for our day to day activities.....

Straight to my question Can a Muslim (CEO) give/receive Christmas/End of the Year Gifts?

Note: Just last week, were given a gift at my workplace with the inscription 'Merry Christmas' on it...and everybody (including Muslim staff) collected it joyfully
