That was it for the year 2017. I found out a branch of art....Hyper-realism....i decided to adopt the style. I also met an artist on facebook by name Chuka. He's ahead of me and i always view his art when i need inspiration. |

I later did another large sketch a month later, of which i can't find the photo (i'd upload as soon as i uncover it) Then, in the first week of December, decided to do something for my eldest sis. I learnt to use the grid method for accuracy and applied it to this Christmas drawing. The size is 20" by 16" and it took me two whole weeks (weekends inclusive). 1 Like

After the previous sketch, i was very hopeful. It looked so real, and i almost thought i'd "arrived". Later realized i had not even started. 1 Like |

At this point, i decided to step up a bit. So around August 2017 (after like 4months without practice, due to time spent on my project work), i decided to do a work for someone, i joined 2 A4 papers to get a larger size of paper. Unlike previous works whick took less than for hours, this one took me six hours. 3 hours per day for two days (had to rest my eye). 2 Likes

After about a month, tried to do another. Still on A4 paper with my few pencils. When i think back from now, i realised i lacked patience. Which is a requirement as an artist. Here goes.

And thus my journey began. I decided to start with A4 papers (i learnt that there were different drwaing papers which gave different finishes). My first was a shirtless picture. I was beginning to learn the ropes of shading. This was done around January 2017.

If you noticed, my last drawing is without a head. Yes i sucked at drawing the human face, so i knew i had to deal with it. I did that by learning how to draw the parts (eyes, nose, mouth) individually. Then i combined what i learnt.....and got this.

So the above sketches were made with regular classroom HB pencils. At that time, i knew little about technique. I got really interested around October 2016. I was on break when I came across an art magazine....and fell in love anew. I immediately went online (what can we do without google?), and learnt about the pencil range (12H to 12B), types (charcoal, graphite), and even oil painting. I located the nearest art store (about 60kms away) and got some pencils, 2H, 2B, 4B and 6B, to start practicing with. |

I've always loved anything art, born in an art inclined family. Most time, during a boring class in high school, i'd try to sketch something in my note. Below is a photo of one of my earlies sketches. This was done around 2010 back in high school....abeg no laugh...its my humble beginning.

Hello nairalanders, call me Teesha (pronounced as "teacher"). I've created this thread to share my progress story (and photos of course) as a pencil artist. Let me begin with a brief introduction. Like wrote earlier i'm TeeSha (nickname my parents gave to me), i'm a Forensic Scientist (B.Sc Hons)......in my early twenties, highly introverted. I think that's enough intro for now. Lets get to my humble beginings. |

Agriculture / Re: My Two Plots Of Maize Farm (planted 16/02!2018) by TeeSha(m): 11:58am On Sep 22, 2018 |
Hey guys.....thanks for the thread. I just graduated last year and i intend to start a maize farm next year.....as a newbie. 1. I'd like to start with 4 hectares. Is it advisable as a starter. 2. Is it posible for 3 persons to handle such size (2 part time employees while i'll be available on weekends). I'd use weeding machine, planters, etc to ease the work. 3. I'd like to sell to local traders....while any remnant would be dried, decobbed and bagged for sale (to avoid spoilage) Kindly advise me generally and based on the above data. P.S: no matter what......i'll start that farm next year. |
Crime / Re: Policeman beats LASTMA officials in Lagos. by TeeSha(m): 8:20am On Sep 19, 2018 |
XD3G: Oga....not to get involved in you guys debate.....just need to point out a thing or two. The Lastma vehicle was blocking his.....so.....yes.....he had all the time in the world to remove the obstruction. Not every Policeman out there passed through Police Academy. Most passed through police colleges......there's a difference. If the lastma officials really cared about the lane being free, they shouldn't have blocked it. To me, they just wanted to seize the opportunity to "deal with" a mopol (remember after blocking him, they went to mobilize more of themselves even before the Mopol became violent, so the themselves never had a genuine intention). Just my own analysis of the situation. 1 Like |

Career / Re: What Can One Do With N42k Salary? by TeeSha(m): 8:08pm On Sep 18, 2018 |
I used to earn 120k, i saved 40k. Sent 15k and 10k to my mum and kid sis repectively. To be left with 55k which i was ok with. Now lets see what i would have done if 42k was left. Rent monthly 7k (if its more than this, get a roommate to split) Feeding 15k (if you eat a lot like me, but can be less) Tips: cook your food yourself, use gas stove instead of kero, buy foodstuff in bulk, make your food basically balanced (e.g rice-beans and stew, not rice-beans-plantain-egg sauce and chicken......you go jus wreck). Try not to eat outside unless you have no time. If there's a little piece of land at your backyard, plant ugwu, ewedu, pepper or okro, which would save you some money eventually. Buy one piece of clothing in two months to add to your wardrobe (about 4k) Avoid asoebi like a plague. Avoid show off too (Bola is wearing Gucci, you want to wear too, what you don't know is that Bola begs for garri) You have no business with a television at this stage, so....scrap. Mobile data 1k (do i need to explain this?) At this point, you've spent 25k for your very basic neccessities. Savings 10k (use this for small investments which i'd talk about later) You're left with 12k right?, you keep that for misc. (airtime, charity, treats, visits, get together e.t.c) but be prudent. Now coming to investments. You could buy clothes and sell at your work place, or grow some broilers (chicken) to sell before Christmas (breeding 50 birds shouldn't cost you more than 55k). Go into egg retails etc. The truth is a Police man i know earns 45k, and i told him even if i earned that, i'd still "make it" after a few years. Just avoid show off and competition, because that's what makes people remain poor. Cheers! 7 Likes |
