Hello guys. Please I'm not sure if this is new on CGI. My F1 visa was delayed about 3 weeks ago ,so while filling a new VISA application, I came across this page below. If I select No it will take me to document pick up location page and lastly payment page. However, If I choose YES, it will take me to the second screenshot.

Is this normal as I haven't been issued a Visa before let alone having an expired visa? Will this have any implication on being able to see a date .. just worried! Has anyone encountered this before? . Contribution /input will highly be appreciated .Thanks.

Moshkom can you help review this pls?

Hello Nairalanders
Cc
@Chibertha, Moshkom, Ummzayd e.t.c

I’m back in the house again…I was away for about 4months scouting for interview appointments date (One of the most difficult processes) in getting a student’s visa. Fortunately, I was able to secure a date yesterday which is too close to my class start date

Please help me review this on how to structure what to tell the VO during my interview

[Here is the thing:

My Orientation Program date :- 13th August 2022 (Will definitely miss as I haven’t gone for interview yet)

Visa Interview Date :- 18th August, 2022

Class start date :- 22nd August, 2022 (Will miss as passport/visa will still be in process with embassy, which usually takes about 3 to 5 business days to process) – Worst case scenario 25th to 26th to receive before final arrival date.

The remarks section on my I-20 says this:

‘’Tuition, fees and insurance subject to change without notice. Tuition fees /expenses for 9 months(fall/spring). Missing international programming in mid-August could delay course registration. To maintain F-1 status, student must register and enroll full-time (Minimum 9 credit hours for graduate students). Must arrive before last day to schedule classes: August 30, 2022’’

Can visa officers use the close class start date and missing orientation as a yardstick to refuse a visa , irrespective of the fact that I have an extension in the remarks section above till the 30st to arrive?

Please what is the best statement/words to convince them to cover the missing orientation date and first week of class? . The school doesn’t have issues with my resumption after the 22nd of August, 2022 till the 30th.

Need your input guys …please, Ejowo oo, Don Allah, Biko. Thank y’all!

Question # 2
How do I change my intended travel date / tentative travel on DS-160 and update my appointment profile on CGI to reflect same? Please, note that I have already submitted my DS-160 (Reason: It was submitted cos I used it to apply for EA, which was eventually denied).
Any step-by-step guide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Moshkom:

August 30 for interview for Spring session is VERY OK. Shoot!!!

Regular search. EA was denied a week before I saw it on regular (Just 1 slot was released that day). Thanks!

taiwogabriel:

1. It's not your fault you had a late interview date but it might affect your chance if you do not express yourself to the VO clearly. I will advise before your interview commence at all, make the VO aware that your school have no issue resuming late so he's already aware that your program start date shouldn't be a determining factor. It's a 50-50 thing though.

2. However, the best possible thing to do is to request that your school adjust your I-20 so it doesn't impact your chances of approval in case you are not okay with the first option. Also, request that a letter of extension or late resumption be issued you to enable you avoid problem at the point of entry. It is one thing to get the visa approved, it is another to enter US itself.

3. If I may ask, did you get your Interview date on Regular Search or EA search? Thank you!

That's grace right there! Congratulations bro!
Donfide:
F1 Visa Approved.
Venue : Abuja.
Date: 23rd May , 2022.
Course: Corporate law, Commercial law and Trade.
School: University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Funding: $33,000.
Deficit: 21,824.

My interview was just God showing his mercy and presence. I was very tensed prior to the interview. When I was in the queue, what was going through my mind was "I cannot travel all the way from Anambra to Abuja to collect coloured paper and go back". Whenever I see an interviewee coming out with a Green paper(rejected). My heart will start palpitating vehemently. I started singing 'Too faithful by Moses Bliss' to calm my mind. I was almost taken to the white man in window 9 who basically was in the business of denying people Visa before window 11 became free. (A beautiful American lady)

VO: Good morning. Pass me your documents (Whilst looking at me directly).
Me: Good morning. (Trying to sound confident and calm while passing the documents).
VO: Have you left Nigeria before?
Me: No ma, I haven't had a reason to leave Nigeria.
VO: (Conducts biometrics for me).
VO: What will this course do for you?
Me: Yes, I ...(rampages through my brain to get the answer). Asides the fact that I intend to establish my own corporate law firm in future and also have my master's degree in the course, I am currently working in the law firm of _____ at _____ , and the law firm intends to establish another corporate branch at ___ for which I have been singled out amongst others to head the department (She nods), so therefore, I require and need every existing knowledge available in order for me to weather the challenges of the corporate world.
Having a master's degree will also at a geometric rate enhance my Curriculum vitae.
VO: There will be a promotion right?
Me: Sorry, I didn't hear you.
VO: promotion right? After the masters ?
Me: oh yes of course! Will be promoted to a Senior associate. (she smiles and nods)
VO: I went to this university, I am also a lawyer(points at my university on my I-20 and I know a brilliant professor there. (My tension reduced immediately and I tried to strike a conversation, "what's his name ma?". She says she doesn't remember but the prof doesn't work there anymore".
Vo: So I can see you have a funding of $33,000 , who will cover the rest?
Me: My uncle Mr.______,
VO: what does he do?
Me: He is into ____ and ____ and ____.
VO: okay I will be granting your visa, take this white paper which will serve as a etc. (didn't hear the rest).
(I took the white paper and smiled my way out through my face masks, from the building).

Tips:
-Get a good course in a good university that matches your degree.
-Prepare well! Believe your answers.
- Be confident while answering your questions, what did I say? Be confident, be almost loud , but not loud, i.e speak out! Soro soke o! If not, they might deny you with that bedroom voice you came with.
-Finally, pray very well! Sing to calm your Nerves. .
Goodluck!! ✨.

Please I would be having my visa interview later this Thursday in Abuja but I reside in Lagos. I would like to get my passport as soon as I possibly can. I do not have a place to stay in Abuja after the interview so I plan to have my passport delivered to Lagos.

Does anyone have an idea of how long such delivery would take??

Not all schools ask for evaluation. Some universities have their internal evaluation unit. Better still , you can use other evaluation companies in the US aside from WES but ensure you check with the university first.

Good day, Am at a cross road at the moment, I graduated from one of the Benin Republic (Cotonu) University 8 years ago. I decided to pursue my masters now that have sponsorship but WES is not evaluating my school. I don't know what best to do, my sister suggested undergraduate school but what are my chances at 32 and with over 17years SSCE result. Please kindly advice.

Good job ny11. This will help prospective applicants to make their payments with ease. I just downloaded the app too. I can see that it allows you to make SEVIS I-901fee , WES evaluation fee and other payments right from the comfort of your home in Nigeria.

Here is what(Screenshot) I found ...I haven't used it though but its worth trying.. Goodluck Guys!
