Politics / Parliamentary Polls: INEC Pledges To Assist Chad by teexlcusive1: 11:24pm On Aug 23, 2019

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed its readiness to assist its counterpart from the Republic of Chad to conduct free, fair and credible parliamentary elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu gave the assurance when he received delegation of Chad’s Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), led by its Vice Chairman, Mr. Adama Djibert, to INEC headquarters on Friday in Abuja.

He commended Djibert for acknowledging Nigeria’s support to Chad’s electoral process and democracy in the recent past
Yakubu pledged that the INEC would work within its powers to offer technical assistance in certain areas for the conduct of the elections.

“Both at this meeting and in our private discussion in the office, you raised a number of issues and I want to respond as follows.

“The first issue is insecurity resulting in the displacement of citizens including voters.

“One area we can share the experience with the Republic of Chad in this regard is to share with you our framework for Internationally Displaced Persons (IDPs) voting.

“The second area is in the registration of voters and the preparation for voters register; we will share the experience with you in this regard as well.

“We will also share the experience with you in deepening stakeholders’ engagement, particularly with respect to Political parties, civil society organisations, and the Media.”

“As you prepare for the parliamentary elections, one important area we will discuss is inclusivity for women, youths, and persons with disabilities,” he said.

Yakubu said that for material assistance, it was entirely a bilateral matter between the Chadian and the Nigerian governments.

“I am happy that the man in charge of our embassy in chad is here. If there is anything we can do to facilitate this we will do so.

“Arising from the meeting, I want to propose that we set up two technical teams from the two countries’ electoral bodies.

“We will be very happy to welcome the team from Chad to come and understudy our processes and procedures in Nigeria.

“On your request, we will also be happy to send a team of experts from Nigeria to see how we can further collaborate.

“Be rest assured that if there is anything of value that you think Nigeria can share with the Republic of Chad for the purpose of organising free, fair and credible elections, consider us your friends and brothers.

“We will support you in any way that we can,” Yakubu said.

Speaking earlier, Djibert solicited the supports of Nigeria in the conduct of its forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Djibert said that present parliamentary members of Chad, whose four years tenure was supposed to end on June 21, 2019, had practically completed two tenures.

This, according to him, was due to some problems including insecurity, especially Book Haram facing the country, which made Chad close its borders with Libya, Sudan, and the Central African Republic, while declaring a state of emergency in those borders.

Djibert said they were in INEC to appreciate the good bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Chad, the presidents of the two countries, as well as Nigeria’s previous interventions in the past elections in Chad, especially in 2016.

He said that Nigeria had to be the first country to intervene in different forms of supports for the elections in Chad.

“We have considered Nigeria as a brother. That is why we still turn our face to you and in that respect to seek for your assistance for the conduct of elections in Chad.

“We understand that Nigeria is participating in the UN basket fund, but as I am talking, I want to make it clear that none of the countries, not even organisation, has come to help the Republic of Chad.

“We have received some promises from the European Union, but up till now, there is nothing tangible from there.

“Now we have taken the matter to a bilateral electoral relationship. That is we have turned you.

“Just as you have done in the past, we are sure that Nigeria which used to do so will come to assist INEC in the Republic of Chad.”

Djibert said that Nigeria has always extended assistance to Chad and other sister countries.

Nigerian Charge d’Affairs to Chad, Mr. Nasiru Waje, who was part of the delegation, commended the good relationship between Nigeria and Chad and their presidents.

He pledged to consult with his principal in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see how Nigeria could assist Chad.

Usman Adamu, the Nigerien Man that made headlines after hanging on to the wing of
an Azman aircraft that was preparing to take off from Lagos to Port Harcourt, has been deported to his country.

The Nigerien at the center of the July 19 stowaway incident at the restricted area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), was found to be mentally imbalanced after he was interrogated, profiled and subjected to psychiatric tests by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Usman was deported by road on Friday August 16, through Lagos.

Immediately he was arrested at the airport, by
security agencies, he was interrogated and asked series of questions,
and later taken to the psychiatric hospital for a test. It was at the
hospital that it was confirmed that he had a mental challenge.

“But despite that, he was still kept in detention for another round of
questioning, which didn’t produce any meaningful result. So, he was
handed over to us and as the law required, we returned him to his

Politics / Buhari Seeks Support For Health, Education by teexlcusive1: 7:44pm On Aug 23, 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday in Abuja, said his administration will maintain focus on health and education and would require the support of well-to-do individuals in the country to achieve success in these areas.

The President, who noted the attainment of three years without a recorded polio incident, achieved by his administration with local and international support, said it was something not only to cherish, but one that also requires sustained vigilance.

Buhari spoke during a courtesy call on him by Mr. Andrew Young, the former Ambassador of the United States to the United Nations, accompanied by the board of Emeka Offor Foundation in Nigeria.

Buhari, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said: “The best asset to give to the people is health and education. You free them from the tendencies of under-development, especially religious and ethnic manipulations which are challenges facing us at this stage of our development”.

He however expressed optimism that these challenges will wither away with time.

“We have to march gradually. It is impossible to be in a hurry. We are seeking inclusive development without leaving a majority of our people behind,” the President said.

He also commended the social and humanitarian activities of Sir Emeka Offor, especially in the areas of education and health:

“You are translating the success you achieved into social service. This is what the government is doing, so you are helping us in many ways. I commend your activities in the area of health and education to other successful Nigerians.”

In his address at the meeting, Ambassador Young expressed happiness with the Buhari administration’s effort toward Polio eradication.

He commended the President’s leadership of the country, saying, “at a time when nations of the world are pulling apart, we are happy that Nigeria is stable and secure under you. We will continue working with Nigeria because we consider ourselves as part of the family.”

In his remarks, Ambassador Howard Jeter, a former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria said President Buhari’s re-election was, “a real boom for the future of Nigeria.”

He outlined on-going efforts of the Emeka Offor Foundation, in partnership with the Andrew Young Foundation, to supply millions of books to schools, ensure the complete eradication of polio, attack River Blindness with about 40 million afflicted mostly in the South-east and the South-south areas of the country and, in the near future, also start a campaign against cervical cancer, for which Nigeria holds a world record.

Politics / Muslim Parents, students Drag UI, School, principal To Court Over Rights Violation by teexlcusive1: 4:15pm On Aug 18, 2019
Some Muslim parents, whose daughters were banned by the authorities of the University of Ibadan International School Ibadan (UI ISI) from using Hijab (head scarf), have returned to court to enforce what they termed as fundamental human rights of their wards in line with their religion belief.

DAILY POST recalls that the Hijab controversy became a public issue last November when the parents under the banner of UI-ISI Muslim Parents’ Forum petitioned the University of Ibadan, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) who doubled as Chairman of the board of Governors of the school, the school principal, Mrs. Phebean Olowe and school over the denial of the female Muslim students in the school to wear Hijab.

The crisis generated a lot of arguments for and against from parents, students, academic and other stakeholders as the development led to the shutting of the school for a week.

The Muslim parents on behalf of their wards later approached an Oyo state High Court in Ibadan, asking the Court to mandate the school to allow their wards use Hijab on top of their school uniforms.

Those that were joined in the suit which was filed together by the parents included the school principal, Phepan Olowe, University of Ibadan, its Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) who also doubled as Chairman of the board of Governors of the school.

However, Justice Ladiran Akintola of Oyo State High Court 9, on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, struck out the fundamental human rights suit filed by the parents on behalf of their wards. Akintola in his ruling, premised his judgement on the fact that the section of the constitution on human rights issues should be filed individually and not collectively as done by the parents.

It was however gathered that the school principal, Mrs. Olowe and some staff of the school including the school Accountant, Mr. Odewale had since then been allegedly molesting, harassing and intimating the Muslim students.

The development had made the Muslim parents to petitioned the Department of State Service (DSS) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

But the Muslim parents, while speaking on Sunday, said that they had complied with the court directive to file the cases individually.

Chairman, Muslim Parents’ Forum of the School, Alhaji Abdurahman Balogun, while speaking with DAILY POST, maintained that the applicants have now complied with the court directive to file the matter individually.

Balogun told DAILY POST that, “We are back in Court. This is to inform you all that sequel to Court directive to file the matter individually as regards Fundamental Human Rights, we had since complied and new cases assigned as follows:

(1) Fareedah Moshood vs UI is on Monday 19 Aug 2019 at High Court main premises Ring Road before a vacation judge, (2) Hamdallah Olosunde vs UI is coming on 20-8-19 before court 17 Iyaganku, (3) Iman Akinoso vs UI is coming on 20-8-19 before court 17 Iyaganku, (4) Raheemah Akinlusi vs UI is coming on 21-8-19 before court 17 Iyaganku, (5) Ikhlas Badru vs UI is coming on 21-8-19 before court 17 Iyaganku, (6) Mahmudah Babarinde vs UI is on 27 Aug 2019 at high court main premises ring road before a vacation judge, (7) Aakifah Dokpesi vs UI is on 27 Aug 2019 at High Court main premises Ring Road before a vacation judge, (cool Aaliyah Dokpesi vs UI is on 27 Aug 2019 at High Court main premises Ring Road before a vacation judge.

Balogun maintained that the decision of the students to return to court is simply to “liberate our children and Muslims who religiously oppressed intimidated and coerced not to express their faith freedom as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“You are equally invited to join us in this struggle as you did in the past so as to liberate our children and Muslims, especially in South West, from the shackles of oppression, intimidation and coercion in the free practice of our faith- Islam, as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

US billionaire, Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in his jail cell on Saturday while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, hanged himself, the much awaited autopsy has confirmed.

A spokeswoman for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner disclosed the finding on Friday, August 16th. The wealthy and well-connected money manager was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan, triggering investigations into the circumstances of his death. He was 66.

Epstein was arrested on July 6 and pleaded not guilty to federal charges of sex trafficking involving dozens of underage girls as young as 14.

We are sending the determination out very shortly. It is suicide by hanging,” Office of Chief Medical Examiner spokeswoman Aja Worthy-Davis told Reuters.

Epstein was already a registered sex offender after pleading guilty in 2008 to Florida state charges of unlawfully paying a teenage girl for sex. Prior to his conviction, he had counted the rich and powerful, including U.S. President Donald Trump and former President Bill Clinton, among his associates.

Politics / UTME Candidate Arrested For Forging His Score To Study Medicine by teexlcusive1: 7:58am On Aug 17, 2019
A 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate incurred the wrath of the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for editing his result in the examination, and will now be handed over to the police.

Kingsley Unekwe reportedly increased his score from 201 to 269 after contacting some fraudsters, in a bid to deceive his parents who wanted him to study Medicine. He was however apprehended.

JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede revealed that the boy confessed to tampering with the original UTME result in the presence of his mother and other officials on Friday August 16, while pleading for mercy amid claim of not knowing it came off a fraudulent act.

The registrar said, “Anybody who does post-result infraction will have their results withdrawn by the board. You (Unekwe) are the fifth person. Two of the other candidates are already being prosecuted because we showed them clearly that they forged their results to deceive their parents who are desperate, like your parents are, to study medicine.

We will prosecute you for attempting to tarnish the image of the board. We told your father that we have all the facts; since we now see that your claims are not correct, you will be prosecuted.”

Politics / Shi’ites Vow To Resume Protest As El-zakzaky, Wife Return by teexlcusive1: 10:49pm On Aug 16, 2019
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shittes, have vowed to resume their street protests following the return of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife,Zeenat. The Shi’ites say their street protest will continue until their leader and his wife are given proper medical attention.

El-Zakzaky and wife arrived the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport aboard an Ethiopian airline flight and were immediately taken away by the security operatives.

A statement by the President Media Forum of IMN, Ibrahim Musa reads

“It is glaringly clear that the Nigerian government had an ULTERIOR MOTIVE it was nursing using its connections in India when it violated court order and interfered with the procedures of the Sheikh’s treatment. This can also be deduced from the way the security agents whisked him away to unknown destination after arrival at Abuja International airport, without allowing him to have audience with the journalists that were waiting for his arrival.

The Islamic Movement will however continue its struggle to ensure that our leader gets the appropriate medical treatment he deserves as ordered by the Kaduna High court. And as we continue with the struggle, we wish to reiterate our call for the federal government to comply with an earlier Abuja high court that has freed him since 2016. We believe obedience to this court order will finally solve the crisis that has been lingering since the Zaria genocide of December 2015.

As our leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky has landed safely at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport today, we wish to set the records straight in order to disabuse the minds of Nigerians from the false claims perpetrated in some sponsored stories and articles in the media concerning his aborted medical treatment in India.

However before we do that, we vehemently condemn the way the security agents whisked him away upon arrival without allowing the multitude of journalists that were waiting for him for hours to have a chat with him. We urge the security agency holding him hostage to declare to the public where they are keeping him in the country.

It is a well-known fact that the Nigerian authorities had tried all their antics to see that the Sheikh wasn’t given a medical leave. Distrustful of the Nigerian government’s offer of a jet to take him to the destination, having survived its attempts to poison and kill him while in detention, our leader Sheikh Zakzaky declined the offer and chose to pay for his trip through the Emirates Airline.

Their ordeal started right here in Nigeria when they were schedule to board the plane to Dubai. After a 2 hours’ drive from Kaduna to Nnamdi Azikwe international Airport in Abuja, they were not given enough time to rest before boarding the plane. They endured an 8 hours flight to Dubai and another 3 hours flight to New Delhi. Under normal circumstances, as patients suffering life threatening ailments they shouldn’t have been subjected to such exhaustion. Nonetheless our leader and his wife endured the journey hoping that they will get good treatment when they reached New Delhi.

However, despite their need for rest, they were forcibly wheeled to a hospital on arrival without their personal physician that accompanied them from Nigeria. They were then subjected to physical examination in the absence of the doctors that initially examined them in Nigeria and when they requested for their presence, it was turned down. Another physician that came from London was also denied access to them despite his familiarity with the Sheikh’s case from Nigeria. It was at this point that Sheikh Zakzaky lost confidence in the whole process and refused any further attempt to have him forcibly treated.

Moreso, the Hospital compromised its independence and medical ethics, treating without obtaining consent of the patients. The health workers were further more interested in taking selfie with the Sheikh and posting on social media, thereby violating their privacies.

When the Sheikh noticed some physical assault in addition to the background circumstances, he lost complete confidence in the hospital and demanded to see his own doctors for a substitute arrangement. It is well within every patient’s right to decide whether or not to be treated and to also decide who attends to his health.

It is called giving of consent, which every sane autonomous person with capacity is entitled to. Contrary to the Nigerian government’s press statement, that misinformed that it was against “medical ethics and standard practice,” it is in fact at the very essence of medical ethics, which every elementary medical person knows.” the statement read

Nigerian university workers comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, under the auspices of the Joint Action Congress(JAC), have vowed to commence a one-week warning strike from Monday.

A letter signed by the chairman of JAC, Samson Ugwoke and issued on Friday, said the warning strike was aimed at pushing the Federal Government to meet their demands.

According to the unions, the contending issues include payment of earned allowances, University Staff Schools matter, renegotiation of 2019 FGN/Unions agreement among others.

“At the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum, Sunday 18 August 2019, without a positive response from the Federal Government of Nigeria, members shall proceed on a 5-day warning strike in all Branches from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August 2019.

“You are, therefore, directed to properly mobilize our members for this action. All defaulting branches shall be sanctioned accordingly. Please be guided,” the letter reads.

The Non-Academic staff Union of Universities had earlier planned for a nationwide protest on July 15 ahead of an indefinite strike over the failure of the federal government to implement its agreements with them.

Meanwhile, Joint Action Congress(JAC), University of Jos branch, had given the Federal Government a two-day ultimatum within which to meet their demands or face a five-day warning strike.

Politics / Court To Rule On Suit Seeking To Stop Inauguration Of Ministers On Monday by teexlcusive1: 10:59pm On Aug 15, 2019
The Federal High Court Abuja will on Monday deliver its ruling in a suit seeking to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from inaugurating the 43 ministerial nominees over the exclusion of a Federal Capital Territory indigene from the list, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The applicant, Mr Musa Baba-panya, who was also the counsel in the case, had on Thursday approached the court with an ex-parte motion, asking it to stop President Buhari from going ahead with the inauguration.

Baba-panya, who is also an indigene of Karu in the FCT, said the President’s action was contrary to an Appeal Court judgment delivered on March 15, 2018.

President Buhari is the 1st defendant, while the Attorney General of the Federation is the 2nd defendant in the case.

The lawyer in his suit, said, “The 43 confirmed ministerial appointees now awaiting swearing-in or inauguration as the Federal Executive Council is incomplete, illegal, unconstitutional, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.

“The 1st defendant stands in contempt of law and court for his brazen refusal to comply with the tenor of the Abuja Division of Court of Appeal judgment of 15/1/2018 compelling him to the immediate and forthwith appointment off an indigene of FCT, Abuja, as minister of the federation.

“Allowing the President to go on with his decision would mean that he is going to constitute an illegal cabinet.”

Justice Taiwo Taiwo ordered that the suit should commence during the vacation period of the court.

Crime / EFCC To Freeze Nigerian Student’s Accounts by teexlcusive1: 6:50pm On Aug 15, 2019
The Federal High Court Abuja, on Thursday, granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s request to freeze two bank accounts linked to a 26-year-old Nigerian student based abroad.

According to the EFCC’s Counsel, Richard Dauda in an exparte application number: FHC/ABJ/CS/921/2019, the commission is investigating a Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) received from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) against the suspect, Mr Damilare Oluyemi.

”The investigation revealed that the suspect in the case under investigation is a student who was involved in suspicious transactions between May 11,2018 and June 6, 2018 amounting to 133, 955. 00 dollars and 40, 000 pounds,” he said.

He said investigation further revealed that the suspect had ”substantial amount of funds in his Access Bank account number: 0790473099 and the Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) account number: 9024884541590 which have not been touched.”

”A copy of the statements of Access Bank and GTB of the suspect is attached and marked as Exhibit EFCC 1 and EFCC 2 respectively,” he said.

Dauda told the court that all effort made to invite the major depositor, Lucy Otubo, has proved abortive, NAN reports.

He said available intelligence report suggested that Otubo had relocated to Turkey and frequently carried out transactions on these accounts.

The counsel said the commission had been making efforts to ensure that the fleeing suspect was tracked and possibly deported back to Nigeria to aid further investigation but efforts so far made had not yielded positive results.

He, therefore, told Justice Taiwo that it had become imperative for the EFCC to apply for a freezing order and an order of interim forfeiture in order yo prevent the suspect from making withdrawals from the listed accounts.

He argued that investigation had not been concluded due to the absence of the principal suspect directly linked to the suspicious transactions who was still at large.

Dauda urged the judge to grant the commission an order to freeze Oluyemi’s accounts for a six-month period.

”We seek an order of this Honourable court granting the chairman of the commission or any officer authorised by him power to instruct a bank examiner to issue an order as specified in Form B of the schedule to the EFCC Act 2004 to bank managers of banks or any person having accounts shown hereunder for six months pending the completion of investigation and possible arraignment,” he said.

Justice Taiwo, however, held that granting a six-month period for freezing the accounts would be too long.

The judge, who ordered that the two bank accounts be frozen for 40 days pending the conclusion of the commission’s investigation, said the owner of the accounts must be put on notice through his banks on the freezing order within 14 days.

He also held that the commission could seek for extension of the days if it was yet to conclude its investigation based on the order of the court.

The judge then adjourned till Oct. 4 for further hearing.

Politics / New Minimum Wage: NLC Breaks Silence In Delayed Implementation by teexlcusive1: 6:33pm On Aug 15, 2019
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has dispelled ongoing reports that negotiations between the organised labour and the Technical Committee on Consequential Adjustment of the new minimum wage had stopped.

Mr Ayuba Wabba, the NLC National President, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the negotiations were still ongoing.

He said even although the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) were not directly involved in the negotiations, they would step in if any disagreement occurred.

It would be recalled that the new minimum wage bill was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in April.

However, deliberations were ongoing as the issue of relativity/consequential adjustment of salaries still persisted.

The Federal Government had on May 14 inaugurated the relativity/Consequential Adjustment Committee which in turn set up a Technical Sub-Committee to work out the template for the adjustment of salaries of Public Service Employees.

However, with negotiations resuming on Aug. 14, Wabba noted that Nigerian workers had waited so long for the new minimum wage.

Wabba said people would want to see an end for its full implementation, adding that it was the desire of the organised labour that this became a reality.

“In spite of that the NLC and TUC are not directly involved during the process of consequential adjustment, the process is ongoing; because I read in the papers of how people were saying it had stopped.

“The report that I read from the Joint Negotiating Council is that they are meeting, and if there is any stalemate we will be informed and will step in to assist and all the details of their discussions have been made public.’’

Wabba said that the delay on the issue was not caused by the NLC.

“For anybody on that table to come and say that labour is the one delaying the process he/she is not saying the obvious.

“This is because I learnt that the person that made the statement is the chairman of the technical committee; so clearly speaking, I think it is not in good faith.

“I think also that workers are becoming very concerned, including us because the process must actually have an end where workers will benefit.

“How can a worker or unions that are at the receiving end be the ones delaying the process.

“For us as a union we wanted this money to be in workers pockets long before now.’’

Politics / Strike: Workers Give Buhari Govt 48-hour Ultimatum by teexlcusive1: 6:25pm On Aug 15, 2019
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) under the auspices of the Joint Action Congress(JAC), University of Jos branch, has given the Federal Government a two-day ultimatum within which to meet their demands or face a five-day warning strike.

Mrs Esther Ezeama, the chairperson of the union, gave the ultimatum during a news conference on Thursday in Jos.

NAN reports that Ezeama said that JAC was asking the federal government to pay them their outstanding N30 billion earned allowance arrears and also ensure equity and justice in all Nigerian universities.

She called on the federal government to obey the court order mandating it to pay them their owed arrears.

According to her, if the federal government fails to meet their demands by 12 a.m. on Monday, the joint union would embark on a five-day warning strike.

The chairperson said if the federal government failed to meet their demands after the five-day warning strike, they would embark on an indefinite strike.

Similarly, Mr Bitrus Dagwer, the chairperson of NASU, called on the federal government to do the needful by paying them their arrears.

Politics / Buhari Govt Reveals New Method To Fight Corruption by teexlcusive1: 8:08pm On Jul 04, 2019
The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) of the Buhari government says it is working on an alternative approach towards the fight against corruption by using non conviction based assets forfeiture regime.

PACAC Executive Secretary, Prof. Sadiq Radda, disclosed this while speaking at an Anti-corruption Agencies Strengthening Initiative Project meeting and launch organised by Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said government was committed to the anti-corruption fight, NAN reports.

“Fighting corruption is a duty that must be done with the collaboration of everybody and the government is serious in continuing to fight corruption in its second regime.

“The only thing that might be different is the approach, this is because we have had our frustration using the legal system, it is very slow, sometimes it is rewarding other times not very rewarding.

“Therefore, we are likely to see the use of non conviction base asset forfeiture regime in which the anti-corruption agencies will go after the property not the individual,’’ he said.

According to Radda, if government goes after the property, there will be quietness from the human rights community, no civil right issues, no serious constitutional issues and the onus of proof will now shift from government to the person. This, he said would make the fight against corruption to be more innovative with more momentum adding that the committee was working with other anti-graft agencies for a more coordinated effort.

Mr Kole Shettima, a member of CDD Governing Council said that the issue of coordination is a very critical factor in anti-corruption fight that remains a challenge to all anti-graft agencies.

“You see it in our intelligence services that is why you have some of the problems we are having; different agencies claim superiority over each other, so no coordinated strategy to prevent the problem from happening.“So that is why we are very excited in some ways that this meeting is happening because stakeholders have come together to have a working plan.

That for me is the beginning of the kind of coordination that needs to happen because if all the agencies have similar work plan knowing what the other person is doing corruption would be minimised,’’ he said.Shettima urged all agencies to set aside their claim about mandate or independence and egos to collaborate so the country would not suffer.Mr Abdulrahman Mustapha, Associate Director of Intelligence, Investigation Support and CTR Analysis Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) stressed the need for strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

Nigeria is not an Island, we work in a global committee of nations; one key thing is that even in your house, if you do not agree with your spouse, things will not get done; so there has to be an agreement, everybody has to focus on what the mission is.

“The agencies have different levels of understanding, they have been found to be bickering over who is going to prosecute what, but these things cannot happen individually; crime affects virtually everybody.“People look at crime as a global thing so we should not be looking at it as individual thing but collectively and everybody has his own role to do because what is raw material to you will be a finished product to someone else,’’ he said

Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) expressed concern over duplication of cases by anti-graft agencies adding that it result in wastage of millions of government’s resources Represented by Dr Esa Onoja, his Chief of Staff, Owasanoye said that an average investigation case minimally cost N4million so the government lose a lot of revenue noting that ICPC entered into an agreement with some agencies on cases being handled already to avoid duplication.

Politics / Military Parades 15 Suspects For Killing Alex Badeh by teexlcusive1: 10:11am On Jul 04, 2019
Military parades 15 suspects for killing Alex Badeh
A 51-year-old suspect, Jibrin Ibrahim, and 14 others were on Wednesday paraded by the Joint Investigative Panel comprising of representatives of the Defence Headquarters, the police and the Department of State Services, over the murder of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.

Two AK-47 rifles, two locally-made guns and other weapons were recovered from the suspects who confessed to collecting N2m ransom before releasing Badeh’s friend Joseph Okpetu, who was in the same vehicle during the attack. It was learnt that the sim card used in negotiating Okpetu's release, belonged to 51-year-old Jibrin.

Usman, also known as Chiroma, said to be the gang leader who spoke to newsmen during the parade, revealed that he alongside 6 others attacked Badeh, whom they assumed to be a wealthy man and not a retired military officer. Recall that it was reported that Alex Badeh was shot dead by gunmen on December 18, 2018, while returning from his farm along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Nasarawa State.

Confessing to the attack, Usman said;

“It was a Friday and I came to the Gitata Market; I was the one who brought the job to the gang. I am a taxi driver. So, while I was driving to Panda village, in Nasarawa State, one Alhaji Maube Gani told me that there was one wealthy man, who owned a farm in that area and that we could make money from him. I told him I had never attacked any person in my life, but he said I should not worry.

“Then later on December 18, I drove my car out and Alhaji called me that the man had come to his farm as usual and that we should come to attack him. So, I called the other members and we met Alhaji in the Gitata area.

“At that stage of the operation, I did not know Badeh’s identity; none of us knew that the man was a military officer. There were seven of us, who participated in the operation. We just got to the road, shot the man and took away his friend.”

Also speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the Joint Investigation Committee, Maj. Gen. Bamidele Shafa, who stated that effort to arrest other members of the gang has intensified, disclosed that 20 suspects had been identified out of whom 15 had been arrested.

Shafa said, “After thorough investigation, the panel made the following findings; one, the attack and killing of ACM Alex Badeh was criminal and did not have any political undertone. Two, 20 persons were involved in the crime, out of which 15 have been arrested.

“The suspects in custody confessed to their direct involvement in the crime. They employed automatic weapons and locally-made guns in the killing of the air chief marshal. This was buttressed by the result of the autopsy and weapons recovered from the residences of the suspects. The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate agency for investigation and prosecution.”

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu And Sowore Meet In New York, Vow To End Domination And Oppression by teexlcusive1: 10:42pm On Jul 02, 2019
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Omoyele Sowore, candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2019 general elections have met in New York to strategize on what they describe as injustice in Nigeria, SaharaReporters reports.

The duo made their position known on Tuesday in New York after a series of closed door meetings.

In a Facebook live session to address the public, Sowore said:

“We met to talk about things we’ve both been passionate about but on a different plane and we respect those boundaries but we’ve had very useful conversations today so that everybody that is aspiring for a fair and just society can come together and rise up now and bring an end to the sorrow and suffering and the domination and the oppression that has become almost synonymous with our generation and our genes in Nigeria.

“Those of you out there who think we have big differences and that we can’t talk, know that when people have revolutionary minds, these minds meet and bodies eventually meet.”

On his part, the IPOB leader hailed the meeting describing it as liberation for those trapped in the contraption called Nigeria.

Kanu said, “I met with my good friend Sowore and it has yielded today a confirmation that people can come together.

“There isn’t much of a difference for what we are fighting for because we are fighting for justice. We know and hope that the people that found themselves today trapped in that contraption called Nigeria will one day be free and it takes people to do it.

“I doubt it comes from heaven and we have to do it, we have decided to do it and it must be done.”

Politics / Bobrisky Fires Heavy Shots At Bbnaija 2019 Guys; Says Their ‘d#cks’ Are Small by teexlcusive1: 3:36pm On Jul 02, 2019
Popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, aka Bobrisky, has shown some real interest in the ongoing Big Brother Naija 2019 reality television show tagged “Pepper Dem“.

Recall that he had found himself in a dilemna when he exposed the fact that he was in favor of two of them, Tacha and Mercy and was seen lamenting on who he would have to support.

Now, he has come out to blast the male housemates over the sizes of their ‘cucumber’. This happened on Day 2 of the show. The male housemates include: Omashola, Frodd, Ike, Nelson, Isilomo, Tuoyo, Sir Dee, Seyi, Gedoni, Jeff and Mike. The first shower hour of the ongoing show had held on Monday night, July 1, with more than 10 housemates in attendance.

The shower hour which took place at the Jacuzzi was boycotted by some housemates including Tacha, Tuoyo, and Nelson among others. Housemates that participated in the shower hour include Avala, Khafi, Omatshola, Frodd, Ike, Ella, Mercy, Jeff, Kimophra, and Mike. They were seen in their bathing suits and spotted enjoying themselves in the water. Unfortunately, it didn’t go down well with drama king, Bobrisky.

Reacting, the male barbie, as he is popularly called, took to his Snapchat page to slam the male housemates addressing their private parts. He said the male housemates weren’t well endowed in the ‘downstairs’ department. He said, “I have been looking out for the guys with D!CK while they were in the jacuzzi but I guess all of them have small d!cks. I have been looking at their boxers’ prints.”

That wasn’t the only thing he said about them. He went on to ask the housemates to start showing some ‘pepper’ worthy stuff on the show. He said, “Can all these Big Brother housemates start kissing and f#cking already. They are just talking. Mtcwwwwwww.”

Politics / 3months Jail Term If Found Eating And Driving – Lagos State Government. by teexlcusive1: 2:11pm On Jul 02, 2019
A Twitter User with the handle @Crhedrys had posted a picture of a billboard erected by the Lagos state Government, with the caption “ Well, the Prison is about to be full and lit!!!”

The inscription on the billboard reads, “Did You Know? Eating and driving with one hand = 3 months in prison, obey traffic laws.”

3months in prison? Well, this is a good initiative from the Lagos state Government to sensitize and curb excess road accidents.

Safety first, the drivers as well as pedestrians should be fully educated on the vices and ills of bad driving. Pedestrian bridge orientation among many other road safety tips should be aired. As drivers you do not have any business eating, smoking, drinking, and using phones while driving.

Hopefully Nigerian drivers will abide to the rules governing them, and also defaulters will not find their ways around not going to prison if found guilty.
