Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), while addressing his congregants today, applauded his wife for standing by him in the wake of rape allegation against him.



In case you missed it, we brought you the major highlights of how the service went at COZA, Abuja today, (here).

On Friday, there were allegations that the COZA pastor raped Busola Dakolo, wife of singer Timi Dakolo, when she was a teenager.

Busola, during an interview with YNaija, alleged that the clergyman raped her twice in Ilorin, Kwara state.

But the clergyman has since denied the allegation, saying that he has never raped anyone in his life.

“My husband is not a rapist. Even if he was not a believer, he would not be a rapist,” his wife said in Church today.

Thereafter, Pastor Fatoyinbo said: ”Having you in my life, I am the most blessed pastor in the world. It took me a long time to get here today. I did not like what I saw today. Some if you came early, this is not what I want to put you through. I will only say something to you, if I was not a pastor of this church, I will be a member.”

“I have been relating with all my mentors, you know I am a man under authority, I really love to listen to them. Fadipe said that when the network for one reason or the other is impaired, it would take a bit of time to bring back the poles, string the lines and other things needed to restore power.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), says that it cuts-off electricity supply most times when it rains to save lives, properties and to protect its equipment.

Oyebode Fadipe, AEDC’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, gave the explanation while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr Fadipe was reacting to complaints by consumers that whenever it rained, electricity supply was cut-off for days.

“The issue of electricity supply going off, especially when it rains could be viewed from two perspectives, which could be electricity lines and poles being pulled down by the rains or some other major interruption.

“To avoid any form of destruction to lives and properties, the system is programmed to go off when it is about to rain.

“Customers would have also observed that after rain, attempt is made to restore the supply which is called “ flashing’’

“If we try to restore supply and it is not stable, it means that maybe a pole or two is broken and the conductor is lying on the ground,” he said.

According to him, AEDC’s duty is to look for the problem and try to restore supply as the speed of repair is totally different from the speed when destruction takes place.

He said that when the network for one reason or the other is impaired, it would take a bit of time to bring back the poles, string the lines and other things needed to restore power.

Speaking on the issue of laying cable underground as was being done in other countries, Mr Fadipe said that the issue was not alien to them.

He said that in Abuja, the network was underground and AEDC had to buy a specialised vehicle to be able to trace any fault on those cables.

“We have a specilised vehicle which when you connect motorized equipment to even if the fault is at Sheraton Hotel, it will give us the location.

“We have invested in equipment, unlike the old practice before privatisation when there is a fault, we will have to dig from one point to the other and you destroy the roads.

“And also, most of our network is overhead so that you don’t have to destroy the roads and you don’t have to spike the cables,” he said.

He, however, assured consumers that AEDC was working on ensuring effective power supply in the territory.

An FCT High Court Maitama, on Tuesday, sentenced a clergyman Pastor Basil Princewill, founder Mountain Mover Ministry International Nyanya, to seven years in prison for rape.

Princewill was charged with four counts bordering on rape, impersonation and attempt to cause abortion and abetting miscarriage.

Delivering judgment, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf said,

“l must consider the faith of a young girl and the society.

“It is even worrisome when the person involved is a man of God who we should look up to as next to God, those who serve in the Lord’s vineyard are expected to be an example to the society.

“We have a duty to send signal that this attitude should not be tolerated, it is regrettable that the person who called himself man of God will be involved in such shameful disgraceful and satanic act,” he said.

The judge said that by this conduct, he deserved to be kept away from the public.

He would face the prison walls like a monastry so that when he comes out, he would have been born again.

He said to consider the fact that he was a first offender, “accordingly the accused person is sentenced to seven years for the offence of rape and five years for the offence of abettment which will run concurrently.”

NAN reports that Baba-Yusuf held that out of the four count, the defendant is convicted on count one, which is rape and count three which is abettment to cause abortion.

He said that the testimony of the three prosecution witnesses are collaborated, PW1, was the mother of the victim, PW2, the victim herself and PW3, the doctor where the victim was taken to.

“I believe the evidence of the PW2 (victim ) to be true and the PW1 (her mother ) told the story in the same way the victim told the court too.

“The evidence of the accused was inconsistent, and confusing also and the direct evidence given by the victim to her mother narrated the ordeal the victim went through in the hands of the accused,” he held.

He said that though, the convict denied not raping the victim but his evidence contradicted itself and therefore, convicted on the allegation of rape.

In the third count of abettment to cause abortion, the pastor was also convicted.

He was however, discharged for the offence of impersonation and attempt to cause miscarriage.

According to the judge, the prosecution did not prove the ingredients of the alleged offence.

The clergyman was alleged to have forcefully had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl, between July 27 and Dec. 31, 2011 at Mountain Mover Ministry International and his house at Nyanya, Abuja, without her consent and impregnated her.

He was said to have given her drugs with a view to aborting a pregnancy.

Princewill was also alleged to have, on or about January, 2012, attempted to cause miscarriage on the victim when he gave her drugs to take and abort the pregnancy, which resulted to her bleeding.

The witness, Dr Felix Ogunbade of Fountainhead Medical Centre, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, told the court in the course of hearing that “the examination conducted on Favour as of the time she was brought to the clinic revealed that she was given an abortion drug.”

The witness, who had earlier testified in the case as the third prosecution witness, was recalled by the prosecution after the charge was amended.

The case was filed by the police on June 4, 2012 with the prosecution closing its case on Dec. 9, 2016 after calling four witnesses to prove its case, with the defence also closing its case on May 24, 2017 having testified for himself without calling any one.

The offence according to police, are contrary to sections 282, 179, 95 and 85 of Penal Code.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has deferred hearing of the case filed by former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, to challenge probe for alleged corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The judge adjourned the case which were originally scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, to await the decision of the outgoing Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati following the letter written by the EFCC requesting the re-assignment of the cases to another judge of the court.


Justice Taiwo on Tuesday adjourned Okorocha’s case till July 2.

The lawyers representing the plaintiff and five of the six respondents to the case were present at Tuesday’s proceedings.

Only the Inspector-General of Police joined as the 2nd respondent was not represented by a lawyer.


The rest of the respondents – the Attorney-General of the Federation, the State Security Service, the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau, sent lawyers to the proceedings.

After the lawyers announced their appearances in court on Tuesday, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr. Sunday Onubi, reminded the judge that Okorocha’s case was scheduled for a hearing.

In response, Justice Taiwo said, “Actually, I am not going to take the matter today

“ I am still awaiting the decision of the Chief Judge as regards the letter written by the 4th respondent (EFCC).”

The judge then adjourned the case till July 2.

The EFCC had in a letter sent to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, on May 21, 2019, accused Justice Taiwo of being biased against it.

The letter personally signed by the EFCC’s acting chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu, was in protest against the ex parte orders made by Justice Taiwo on May 9 and 14, restraining the commission from continuing its investigations of certain corruption allegations against Saraki and Okorocha.

The Leader of the proscribed secessionist group, the IPOB Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said that anyone who hates Biafra and is against the creation of the State of Biafra, can never make heaven. According to him, the angels in Heaven speak Igbo language.

The Ogun state police command have arrested two suspected armed robbers, 30-year-old Ebenezer Olubukola and Olajide Oladejo, 29, who specialize in lurking around Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cash points to monitor withdrawals made and thereafter, move to dispossess their targeted victims, mostly those who make heavy withdrawals.


The suspects were arrested on June 19th while trying to steal from their next victim at Sango.


Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said

"Their mode of operations is to lurk around banks, to observe those making substantial withdrawals and trace such person(s) with their stand-by motorcycle to a convenient area before dispossessing them of the money.


Items recovered from the suspects include a locally-made pistol and five live cartridges, as well as a Bajaj motorcycle marked AKM 490 W.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, spoke on the Nigerian justice system, wondering if getting justice was still possible in the country.

Omokri was reacting to the rejection of the application by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to inspect the server used by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the last election.


The Presidential election petition tribunal had on Monday dismissed the application which was filed by Atiku and the PDP.

Justice Mohammed Garba, Chairman of the panel, had ruled that granting such application at this interlocutory stage would preempt the substantive petition.

An Ado Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a former Chairman of Ado Local Government, Mr. Taye Fasuba, to six months imprisonment over unlawful entry into a land and malicious damage to a property.

Senior Magistrate Omolola Akosile, in a judgment delivered on Monday, found Fasuba guilty as charged in two of the three-count charges before the court and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine on each of the two counts.

Police Prosecutor, Insp. Monica Ikebuilo, had told the court that Fasuba, who is former Special Assistant to former Governor Ayodele Fayose on Union Matters, committed the offence on January 14, 2018 at Moferere area, Ado Ekiti, in the Ado Ekiti Magisterial District.

Ikebuilo had said Fasuba, on the said date “did unlawfully enter into the land which is in actual and peaceable possession of one Catherine Ashowo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 81 of Criminal Code Cap C 16 Vol 1 Law of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2012.”

The prosecutor also said he “did maliciously damage fence wall properties of one Catherine Ashowo valued at N350,000 and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 451 of the criminal code Cap C 16 laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2012”.


Fasuba was also charged with the offence of conducting himself “in a manner likely to cause breach of peace in public place and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) of Criminal Code C 16 Vol 1 Law of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2012.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In the judgment, Akosile held that the defendant had “run contrary to the principle of law by entering into the land in possession of the complainant and pulling down her fence”.


The senior magistrate declared: “On count 1, the defendant is found guilty as charged, he is hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine. On count 2, the defendant is found guilty as charged, he is hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine” as he was discharged and acquitted of the third count.

“The prison term is to run concurrently while the fine is cumulative,” the chief magistrate said.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sworn in the six newly-appointed Permanent Secretaries just as he announced the redeployment of some serving ones.


A statement by the Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri- Okunola said that the action was to reinvigorate the State’s policy implementation apparatus, adding that the appointment of new Permanent Secretaries took effect from June 1, 2019.


The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and their portfolios are: Dr. Ademuyiwa Benjamin Eniayewun, Health Service Commission; Mr. Olumide Olufolami Erinle, Education District IV; Mrs. Okelola Oludara, Education District VI and Mr. Wasiu Adedamola Akewusola, Ministry of Housing.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company Higher Ground has signed a deal with Spotify to create a series of podcasts for the music streaming service, which is seeking to diversify its content.
“We’re excited… because podcasts offer an extraordinary opportunity to foster productive dialogue, make people smile and make people think, and, hopefully, bring us all a little closer together,” the former US president said in a statement released by Spotify and Higher Ground.

The former first lady also said she was “thrilled to have the opportunity to amplify voices that are too often ignored or silenced altogether.”

For the past year, Spotify — better known for streaming music playlists — has been moving into the business of podcasting. In February, it paid $230 million for the respected US podcast production house Gimlet Media.

Several major players in the industry are seeking to shift podcast production away from the current model, where the audio broadcasts are free and producers earn revenue from advertising, towards a platform where users pay for content.

Luminary, which has already raised $100 million from investors, launched its new platform for a monthly subscription fee of $7.99 in April.

On Tuesday, the French service Majelan was launched with programs accessible in 50 countries for a monthly fee of 4.99 euros ($5.63).

She was believed to be the tiniest on record to survive premature birth, as he was born weighing just 245g (8.6oz).
However, she has been discharged from hospital in the US.


Baby Saybie weighed the same as a large apple when she was born at 23 weeks and three days in December 2018, beating all odds against her to survive.

While fighting for life, the baby was transferred to the intensive care unit at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital in San Diego, California.
Doctors told Saybie’s parents she had just hours to live. But five months on, she was discharged weighing a healthy 5.6 pounds (2.5kg), confounding all expectations, BBC Reports.
A nurse who cared for Saybie as she battled for survival said her recovery and release earlier this month was a “miracle”.
The Tiniest Babies Registry said Saybie is thought to be the world’s smallest surviving premature baby.
Saybie’s mother gave birth to the little girl by emergency C-section three months ahead of schedule after she was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia – a pregnancy complication involving high blood pressure which can prove fatal for mother and baby.
According to the mother, the birth as the “scariest day of my life”.
“I kept telling them: ‘She’s not going to survive. She’s – I’m only 23 weeks [pregnant]’,” the mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said.
Her birth was so premature, doctors considered her a “micro preemie” – a baby born before 28 weeks’ gestation. Babies are typically born between 37 and 42 weeks into pregnancy, the hospital said.
She was so small she could “fit in the palm of the hands of her care team”, it said.

‘It was as if the cloud was telling me to click “like”. I was so excited,’ said a student who photographed the rare moment yesterday evening in the city of Shaoguan.

The student said she was preparing for the upcoming university entrance examination when she saw the cloud at about 6:40pm and hoped that the cloud could bring her good luck.
