Lol... I'm actually thinking of dropping the complete e-book this coming Saturday.. I'm THINKING ALOUD ni o Okay, let me get 20 comments in approval and I'll make it available.. For FREE. |
EPISODE TWENTY “Could it have been that her ex-boyfriend that did this?” Fola asked with deep concern. “You guys have to go home now, it is getting too late and if you get stuck in this Lagos traffic, it wouldn’t be too good.” Feire told Fola. Fola looked at his phone and back at Feire. “I don’t know what to say.” “Me too.” She said silently. “I think you guys should go get some rest. We should see tomorrow, Fola keep me updated on the issue, please.” Fola sighed. “Okay.” ** ** ** Kike turned on the mattress and memories the time spent with Fola rushed back to her head. They were best friends and he really cared about her. Sometimes she would wish she never left him to fall into the hands of the good for nothing Uche, but it was too late. She never deleted his contact even though he deleted her own, but never forgot her mobile number. That was the first time they would be talking since they left each other, Kike knew it couldn’t have been Fola. He wasn’t that type of fellow and wouldn’t have done something as grievous as that. Her mind drawled back to where Fola sat down during the party to recall anyone who sat near him but she could only remember Stella. She felt at least the one who gave them invitation card or whose invitation card they used should be seated close to him but she couldn’t remember anything at that moment. She heaved a sigh and her mind went back to Uche again. She imagined if the truth about the baby slips out, her father would never forgive her and he would deal with Desmond as well. She didn’t know much to do but she must conceal this truth till her last breath, she felt. ** ** ** “It can’t be any other fellow, Bayo. I am convinced that it is that lady.” Bayo dropped his legs from the table before him. He was confused as he thought of who could have kidnapped his friend. He hit the table angrily and hissed. “What has this guy gotten himself into, what exactly?” “Just calm down. This is not the time to be angry with that idiot, it is the time to find him before they do something bad to him.” “Like killing him, right?” Subby shrugged. “I don’t know. I am just saying I think the best thing to do right now is to look for the solution, not blame him. Would you call Kike again to ask her if there is any suspect?” “Okay.” ** ** ** Feire shut the door and walked to a seat quietly. She could see Mosun cleaning up the dining area. She already cleared the living room and appeared as though she was almost done with everything she was doing. Fola called her name as she looked around for her phone but didn’t know where she dropped it. “I am coming, babes. What is happening?” She heard Mosun’s voice from the kitchen. She already took some things to the kitchen. “Come here.” Mosun walked towards her in no time. “Kilo shele?” She asked what was wrong in yoruba. “Don’t start this Yoruba thing this night.” “You have stayed with me for how long? You understand the language, so don’t form like I just spoke nonsense.” “Desmond is missing.” She announced. Mosun’s eyes bulged. “He is missing? How? When?” Feire shrugged. “I don’t know.” She explained how Kike called Fola to break the news. Mosun sat down beside Feire. “Could it have been Uche?” Feire looked at her. “You also feel the same right? Considering how he came to ruin the wedding today, I also feel he might be the one.” “I actually told him to come and do what he did, Feire.” Mosun broke the news, turning her face away from making eye contact with Feire. “Huh?” “I did. I was angry and that’s why I gave him the invitation card to come and just scatter the whole thing.” “Why did you do that? You should have just left them to their own issue, Mosun. I actually don’t think it is the best thing to have done.” “I did it for you. I was angry with them. But could it have been that Uche now planned a kidnap when he was thrown out of the party?” Feire shrugged. “What else would it be?” Mosun hissed. “This is painful.” “Can you contact him again to ask him questions?” Mosun held her hair tip bouncing on her shoulder. “What if he is not the one?” “You better call him and ask. You better end what you have started.” Mosun picked her phone and dropped it again. “Don’t let me lie, I am the one.” She spat. Feire froze. “You?” “I actually planned with my cousin to help me out and he did.” She replied. “Mosun, are you okay?” “Calm down, Feire. I just did it simply because I want him to open up. Like, I don’t mean to kill him or do anything, dear. I just want him to confess.” “About what!” “That the child is not his own! He can’t ruin you and be walking around happily. I only want him to confess to her family that he is not the father of the child in Kike and ruin all the nonsense they have called love.” Feire sprung to her feet. “You are not serious, Mosun!” She crossed her leg and she punched some buttons on her phone. “I knew you would act like this, that is why I never carried you along.” “You can’t be serious. You are joking right?” “I am not. Caleb did everything for me. I don’t know the guys he used, I just hinted him and he assured me he would get it covered.” “Caleb?” “That my cousin. See, never mind.” “Mosun, please free him right now.” “Just calm down!” She shouted at Feire. “Do you think I am wicked and heartless too? Is that what you feel? What benefit would it be for the child to come to this world and meet a wrong father? For someone who could do this to you, only God knows what he would do to the child that is not his own.” She dashed to her feet too. “What is your business with that, babe? What is your business?” “That is exactly what is causing problem in this world. That phrase of what is my business, or I have nothing to gain, or maybe all men are the same and they should be left to be like that, huh? I do not plan to kill Desmond, I do not plan to harm him at all, I just need him to promise that as he is leaving that place, he would go and confess that he is not the father of the child, that is all.” “Okay. Can you get the men to free him then?” “After we strike the deal, don’t worry.” “So you are planning to let him see you, right?” “No. I would just tell the right source to do everything and he would be freed.” “Good. I will not tell anyone about it, not even Fola.” “Better.” Mosun hissed. ** ** ** Mosun did as Feire told her to and it didn’t take time before the kidnappers got back to where they left Desmond. Everywhere was already dark and they didn’t want to take time before getting out of there and dropping him off the road. She had asked them to ask Desmond to confess if he was the father of the child in Kike and if he confesses, he must agree to go back to her parents and confess before he would be freed. Desmond didn’t take time considering the pains he was going through, he confessed about the pregnancy immediately they asked him and agreed to the terms he was given. The guys called their master to tell him that Desmond had agreed while he called Mosun to inform him about the development and Desmond was taken inside the vehicle to drop him off the road without disclosing whoever was behind the kidnap. They had threatened to kidnap him again and kill him if he wouldn’t go to her parents to confess his sins. Desmond still counted that as a better choice to being killed inside the place he was kept. As they dropped him and uncuffed his hands, it took some minutes before he was able to bring his hands forward and stand up from where he was. He removed the mask on him and found his way near the road to go to Kike’s place immediately. ** ** ** “But why do you think Desmond agree to a child that is not his own?” Feire asked, puzzled. Mosun chuckled. “I don’t even know what to call him, dear. Could it be that he was even forced?” “Forced? A full grown man that is forced to lie that he owns a pregnancy that he has no business with? I think that is not really possible, dear. I don’t think that is possible.” “Or could it be that Kike promised him a great sum of money or something? I don’t want to imagine Kike having one jazz or charm that she used on him.” Feire chuckled. “That is weird. It is not possible, please.” They laughed. “I am still in the dark, Mosun. I find it so hard to believe that Desmond could get married to another woman with the baby of another man who is alive perhaps for the sake of money.” Mosun shrugged. “At least let us watch the drama as it unfolds. He is going to confess his sins tonight.” “And might want to come back to me. You know what, I am going to be the suspect here.” Mosun laughed. “Of course.” “You are mad. I know nothing about all these and before him, he would think I did everything just to get him back.” “At least by the time he comes back, he would find out that you have gone ahead with Fola.” She winked and stuck out her tongue. “What if he doesn’t confess?” Mosun lost words. ** ** ** The gatekeeper opened the gate immediately he heard it was Desmond. He helped him pay the bike rider who dropped him and helped him inside to the main door. It was very late and it seemed as if everyone had gone to bed already. He hit the door but there was no response. He kept hitting it as he sympathized with Desmond until he heard footsteps approaching the door and it was Kike’s father. ...to be continued... |

FEIRE - EPISODE NINETEEN Feire noticed Fola’s countenance as she stood before him. She didn’t know if she should ask him what was wrong with him or who he talking to but she didn’t want to sound as though she was already doubting him just few minutes into the relationship. “Won’t you ask me who called?” Fola threw at her. She grinned. She didn’t know what to reply him with. “It’s Kike.” He said as he glimpsed at his phone and back at Feire. “Kike?” Feire was shocked. “Yes. I don’t know why she is calling me. As I saw the mobile number, I knew she was the one calling me. I still know her number offhand.” “What did she say?” “I haven’t heard her out before I ended the call when I noticed you were coming behind me.” Feire chuckled. “Why?” “I was just scared so you wouldn’t think I still have contact with her.” Feire laughed. “What are you people discussing that you left me out?” They heard Stella interrupt them. “You better chill. When the husband gets to know the wife, every love planner must step aside.” Stella laughed. “It isn’t your fault.” Feire scratched her head. “What can a newly married woman be calling you for? On her wedding night for that matter.” “I don’t know.” “Are you sure it is her mobile number?” He nodded. “I am very sure.” “Call her back.” She shrugged. His eyes widened. “Call her back?” Feire grinned again. “Let’s hear what she has to say.” “Okay.” He punched some buttons on his phone. ** ** ** Flashback to the wedding… Feire, Mosun, Stella and Fola already got a comfortable seat. They all came in with Mosun’s invitation and sat together. Feire raised her head from the pamphlet given to watch the groom and his men as they enter and she smiled. He didn’t see her, probably because his mind never told him at least once that Feire might have heard, not even after Kike told him that she already sealed the security and made sure whoever doesn’t have the invitation would not get in. He already forgot that Kike already gave the invitations in office and Mosun would have gotten one. He stood by his decorated chair while Bayo stood behind him as the best man. As soon as that was concluded, Mosun stood up to excuse herself for a jiffy as her phone buzzed. She soon returned to her seat to watch the bride’s father and the bride walk in too. It was Kike, her boss. They were not all wrong after all. _ Uche chuckled. “How did you get to know the lady?” Susan asked “You know I told you I went to Kike’s office. As I was leaving the office that day she followed me and told me she wanted us to discuss. At first, I thought she was just one lady who was trying to shoot her shot at me or maybe she was trying to introduce me to some kind of business until we got inside my car outside and she told me her name was Mosun and she was working with Kike.” Susan adjusted on the seat. “Interesting.” “She said the guy Kike wanted to get married to, which she got married to today anyway that he is her best friend’s fiancé and he has been dating Kike while he kept her friend in the dark. She explained how this evil guy has been lying to his babe that he was working for Kike, not knowing that they were planning their wedding. She was the one who told me that I shouldn’t worry, she would slot her invitation out for me to scatter everything.” Susan laughed. “Now this is serious, Uche. Like, I am not comprehending this at all. You mean the guy that was kidnapped has a babe also, then the friend works with Kike and she was the one who gave you the invitation?” He nodded. “Yes. The plan was that I should come and disrupt the wedding.” “But what is giving you the assurance that you are father of the baby?” He shrugged. “I have been suspecting, Susan. You know I told you about all these things. How would Kike have such a wedding? And how many months after our breakup and she has gotten pregnant? Then from the way the lady…” He stopped abruptly, trying to remember Mosun’s name again. “Mosun or what did you call her…” “Yes. From the way we talked, it was obvious that this guy and Kike just met recently. I just know that she got pregnant and she doesn’t want me to know about it, thereby telling this guy to cover up for her.” Susan shook her head. “I don’t think that is possible.” “That is the only uncertainty that I have. How would a guy accept a pregnancy that is not his?” “I feel the guy owns the baby, Uche. Because another thing you need to understand is that the more you fight for this baby that you aren’t sure if you are the father or not, the more they get to the truth that you raped her.” He glared at her. She chuckled and shrugged. “It is a bitter truth you also have to face, brother. You have your ugly part in this case also. You raped her!” “Stop repeating it.” “Truth is bitter.” “Just let’s get out of here.” ** ** ** “Hello.” Fola said to the receiver. “Hey, Fola.” “Is she the one?” Feire whispered and Fola nodded. “Good evening.” Fola said. He didn’t know what to say to her. “Good evening. I… I don’t know how to say what I called you for.” “What is it?” “I was shocked to see you today. How did you get to know about the wedding?” Fola gazed at Feire, not knowing what to reply with. Feire threw her hands into the air. “Er.. Don’t worry, that is personal.” “So personal you can’t tell me? I am just amazed how you got the invitation to get in.” “I know how to make my moves, Kike. I just came to wish you well.” “And kidnap Desmond after, right?” There was a short silence before Fola was able to digest what she meant. “I don’t understand.” “Desmond is missing. He was kidnapped as we left that garden and my mind tells me you might have done this to retaliate.” “He is missing?” Feire whispered again. Fola nodded. “See, I don’t understand what you are saying, Kike. I just came to wish you well, I am even shocked that he is missing. How come?” “Please, I am sorry for all I did to you, Fola. Can you just release him? Please.” “I am serious. This sounds alien to me. I didn’t do anything, I don’t even know the guy.” “Then tell me how you got the invitation.” Feire waved at him not to disclose. “I am sorry, the fellow who helped me out wish to be unknown. I don’t know about his disappearance, I am telling you the truth. I only came to see how you are doing after some years and wish you well. I didn’t come there for any ulterior motive, neither did I come to wreck any havoc. I don’t know anything about Desmond.” Kike heaved a deep sigh and the call ended. Fola and Feire just kept staring at each other for some seconds, not knowing what to say.” ** ** ** ...to be continued... |

FEIRE - EPISODE EIGHTEEN Uche stroke his beards as he sat before the officer. The man didn’t look nice at all, his old and dark face was still screwed up as if he was going to smash Uche’s head if he wouldn’t speak up. He also didn’t seem like he cared, he didn’t know why he was brought in for interrogation again. He tried to wreck the wedding but he didn’t end up wrecking the wedding, he was thrown out and now? He has been arrested again? “Where is he?” He heard the husky-voiced officer ask him. “Who?” He shrugged. “Who else?” His eyes bugged as he hit the table. “I don’t understand the question you are asking.” He replied. “Where is her husband?” He exclaimed. “Husband?” He stuttered. “I don’t know anything about what you are saying.” The man inhaled deeply. “I am losing my patience. Where is he?” “Sir, I don’t understand what you are asking me. Who are we talking about here? I was in my house when they came for me and just took me away. I don’t know why I am here yet, I don’t have answers to the question that I don’t understand.” “You think we are here to joke, right? You think so, is that not it?” He smiled. “Sir, I don’t know what you are talking about.” “Did you go to a wedding ceremony today?” He nodded. “Yes, I did. I went there to say nothing but the truth.” He shrugged. The officer snickered. “The truth? About what?” “I own the pregnancy she is carrying, not the guy she got married to.” He replied unapologetically. “What do you mean by that? Who told you she is pregnant.” He chuckled. “I know she is pregnant, officer. At least you guys have started the investigation, please do investigate it well. She is pregnant and the baby is mine!” “So that is why you nabbed the husband, is that not it?” “I don’t know anything about that. I just went there to express my mind and I was bounced out. Any issue relating to the husband or whatever, I know nothing about it at all.” “You can’t tell me that. You can’t be lying here that you have nothing to do with this issue when it is so obvious.” “I repeat, I don’t know anything about this case. I never even knew that the husband is missing. How did it happen? Like, I can’t provide an answer to all these.” He glared at him for a moment before he stood up and walked out of the room. Uche’s instinct told him he had gone out to make a call about the latest development. ** ** ** The living room was already a shadow of itself when Fola and Feire stepped inside. Everyone was just confused, didn’t know if they were to leave or just stay, console or ask questions. As they stepped in, Mosun was about to stand up to pull Feire aside so she could whisper some things to her when she noticed that they were holding hands. She was taken aback as she stood still and watched the drama unfold. “Here we are. Do it again.” Feire said with a smile on her. “I don’t even know where to start from again. You have scattered my head.” She shook her head with the smile still on her. “I am sorry for the other time, please do repeat those sweet words again.” Fola’s smile widened as she began his epistle again. Everyone was on their feet with smile on their faces. It seemed as though they have all forgotten that something just happened a moment back, the love in the atmosphere was enough to block the remembrance. Everyone just anticipated her response to the whole epistle Fola was reeling out. Feire stood still for a moment, staring into Fola’s eyes while he knelt on one knee and held the ring close to her. She giggled with her face beaming as she suddenly gave him a yes and he slid the ring into her finger. The dead excitement came back to life immediately. Mosun and Stella just stood there and watched the drama unfold, not believing what the two went outside to discuss that changed it all. Mosun was showing signs and signals, asking Feire what happened but she was still wrapped up in Fola’s arms, not able to send her gesture back to her friend. The night would be full of discussions, she already knew. ** ** ** “Kike!” Kike heard her father blare her name over and again as she rushed down the stairs. She felt it was a good news he was calling her for as he kept on screaming her name. She had gone inside the room to relax before she suddenly heard her father’s voice. “Has he been found? Has Uche confessed?” She hastened towards her father as puzzles were all over her. “Who is Uche?” She noticed her father was stern. The question wasn’t coming easy on her like her father would have asked on a good day. Then, why would he be asking her who Uche was when she already explained to him before. She didn’t want to think wild enough that he might have spat out that she was carrying his baby. She shook off the thoughts and decided to play brave. “I don’t understand.” “Is Desmond the father of the baby in you or Uche?” She continued staring at her father. “Are you not the one I am talking to?” “I don’t know why you are believing his word over mine. How would have I said Desmond is the father of the baby when Uche is? Then wouldn’t Desmond have known? The guy is just a gold digger who wants to ruin me completely and you are not even believing me!” She shouted. “Calm down, dear. Everything is for the betterment of what is going on here. I don’t mean to disbelief you but I am just checking if you have not allowed him have something to hold on to.” “He is not the father of the baby, daddy. He is just trying to get into my life, just trying to meddle with everything and cause me to lose my joy.” “Okay. I am sorry. It was the officer that called and informed me that he was saying he owns the pregnancy.” He calmed down and gave a deep breath. “But how did he know about the pregnancy? We didn’t tell anyone, neither did you.” Her mother broke her silence. Kike didn’t know what to reply with instantly, she turned towards her mother slowly and threw her hands into the hair. “When he visited me in the office last week, or when did he even come?” She stopped abruptly and tried to remember when he came around. “He came to my office, I just can’t remember when he did, he said he knew that the only thing that can make me start rushing for wedding and not making it announced is if I am pregnant and he owns the child.” “Have you been sleeping with him?” She glared at her mother. “These questions sound awkward, mum.” “Answer my questions so we don’t fight for you, lose and even end up in jail for this case.” “No.” She shook her head. “Are you sure?” She shook her head again and turned around to leave their presence so as to avoid more questions. ** ** ** “How did you know she is pregnant?” The officer asked Uche as he resumed back to his seat. Uche laughed. “I am the father, how won’t I know I have gotten someone pregnant?” “No. It is the mother who knows the father of her child.” He shrugged. Uche laughed. “Maybe that was then. How can someone get pregnant about a week or two weeks after our breakup and wants to suddenly get married to another fellow?” “What if she was seeing Desmond while with you?” He disagreed. “No. I know she was not. She is not that kind of person.” “So can you truthfully tell us what you know about Desmond’s whereabouts? I have softened my pedal now and Kike’s father is ready to cooperate with you.” He frowned. “I mean this that I have been saying. I never even knew that he has been kidnapped not to talk of where he is. I really don’t know anything about this case.” The officer stared at him for a moment and walked out. Uche relaxed his back and faced the ceiling, thinking. He seemed not to really know anything about the case. Maybe, or maybe not. ** ** ** Feire hugged Mosun so tight. “Thank you for everything. She looked happier than when she even saw the surprise they have planned for her. It was late already and everyone was about to take their leave at that time. “You have to attend to your visitors and see them off, we still have all night to talk.” “Tomorrow is Sunday!” “So if we skip tomorrow’s service, we are going to die, right?” Feire grinned. “Idiot.” “You can talk now because they have put a ring on it. Just attend to your visitors, I am here for you.” She sat down by the flare of one of the sofa as she stepped in the middle of everyone to appreciate them and followed them outside. She knew Fola and Stella wouldn’t leave at that moment, they were still going to stay for a little more time before leaving. They all walked to the gate while they exchanged hugs and chatted till they got into their cars and left. Stella was holding on to Feire’s hand as they watched all the visitors leave while Fola was standing at their front. Soon, they all left and they got inside the compound. “That was dramatic.” Stella whispered to Feire. “I was scared. I felt it was coming too fast, like I wanted to just die.” She laughed heartily. “I know it seems too fast but delaying doesn’t add any value, does it?” “So what are you two talking about?” Fola tried to put his head in between them but they pushed him off. “Ladies’ talk.” Stella hissed. “So it has gotten to this, right?” He stood akimbo while they still walked to a corner in the compound. “Yes, it has. You have shone, let me have my own time too.” Stella replied him. “Why are you the one talking, what’s wrong with Feire?” “She is mannered. She doesn’t cut talks between in-laws for one guy.” Fola laughed. “You are not serious.” He walked towards them. “I don’t know if I should call this jealousy.” Feire mocked. Fola’s phone buzzed and stopped walking towards them. He stared at his phone and raised his head to look at Feire and Stella and got his attention back to the phone. He swallowed as he turned around and picked the call. “Hello.” He said to the receiver and heard some footsteps towards him and he quickly took the phone off his ear, he felt Feire was walking near him. He managed to end the call as he placed the phone by his trouser side and saw Feire walking towards him with a smile. She seemed as if she wanted to ask him about something but it was written all over him that he was scared she was suddenly coming. “What is it?” He caught his breath. “Nothing.” He smiled. ** ** ** “Sir, I am releasing him. I will tell him to come back tomorrow afternoon.” The officer said to Kike’s father. “You absolutely can’t do that. What if he runs away? You are not meant to take things easy with that guy there! You are not meant to.” He shouted over the phone. “I really have to free him for the night. My instincts tells me he has an iota of truth in all he is saying. Perhaps, he is the father of…” “Hold it there! How can you just judge things based on instincts? So you feel I am wasting your time, right?” “No. I just feel there is more to this issue. I just feel there is more that your daughter has to say also. Even if this guy kidnapped him, I feel we should free him for the night while some officers trail him between tonight and tomorrow afternoon to know his movement so we can catch him in the act. We don’t have any special proof yet and he is not meant to also be detained.” He explained. “Okay, you feel he might take us to where he has hidden Desmond unconsciously, right?” “Exactly! I would also love to have some words with Kike.” There was a brief silence before he agreed to the officer’s proposal. The officer hung up and ordered for Uche to be released and kept under heavy surveillance between that night and the following day. Uche stepped out of the interrogation room and met his sister waiting. He stepped forward to hug as her as they got outside and stepped inside the car. “What’s happening?” Susan asked. Uche began to explain everything that was going on to her. “Please tell me the truth, Uche. Do you know anything about this case?” He chuckled. “No. I don’t. But I suspect someone who might.” He said. “Who?” Susan asked. Uche laughed as he clasped his hands. “The wedding was strictly by invitation, has it ever crossed your mind how I got the invitation card I tendered?” Susan stared at him as she wondered. ** ** **

“I don’t understand.” “Is Desmond the father of the baby in you or Uche?” She continued staring at her father. ... |

EPISODE SEVENTEEN FEIRE No one would understand my fears, no one would understand my plight, and everyone might be thinking why could I not give him a yes and start a new chapter? It is not that easy. I loved Desmond, and I think I still do. His love was also this real, he meant every word then, he meant everything he was telling me! I never doubted him, not even for once. I never knew he was building our castle in the and today again, another one has come to begin another building. I am not sure I am ready for this again. My heart haven’t let Desmond go yet, Fola is also cool but I am certainly not ready for this yet. As painful and embarrassing that could have been, trust me, I didn’t have choice. ** ** ** “Do you think there are people he has offended also?” Kike’s father asked her. “I don’t think so.” She shook her head. “I never heard of any threat whatsoever. I don’t think there can be any other person apart from this Uche.” Her mother sighed. “Why did you break up with Uche also?” She frowned and shrugged. “He’s not my type of person.” She turned her face away and heard her mother laugh. “You got into a relationship with someone who was not your type of person and left him for another person. I feel you shouldn’t have gone into any relationship with him from the scratch.” “See ehn, this is not the time for this type of talk. I think our main plight now should be how this boy would be found and how that idiot would be arrested.” Her father cut in. “Exactly.” Kike thumbed up for her father. “I knew you wouldn’t let one talk. I knew it.” “That one is gone already, dear. Does it now mean that he was meant to kidnap Desmond? Is it a must that you marry someone?” “I hope this has not been proven yet. This is an allegation, not finalized yet.” “Mum, who else could have done it if not this guy? Who else?” “Like you have said, you don’t know if he has any fight with anyone. I think it would also be best to meet his friends and ask them questions also.” “It couldn’t have been those guys.” Her father shook his head. “I never said they were the ones. I said we should ask them questions, perhaps they might suspect someone too. They are friends and they would know much about their friend and perhaps someone he has offended.” She explained. Kike nodded. “That might be true. I will call Bayo to ask him.” “You have his mobile number?” “Yes, I got it during the week.” She stood up. ** ** ** Susan has been lashing her brother, Uche for attempting to ruin the wedding over an allegation he wasn’t sure of. She was still ranting and venting her anger when the police arrived to arrest Uche. It was getting late already and she didn’t want to call their parents because the mother had high blood pressure and the news might scare her off the earth to grave. She didn’t know how to handle the case especially when the police didn’t allow her follow them in their vehicle. She quickly got into her brother’s and followed them to the station he was being taken to. That was what she was still vexing about, she felt Kike’s family must have done this to punish her brother for trying to obstruct the wedding. It was late already and they couldn’t wait till morning before coming to arrest him? She didn’t even know any lawyer she could call, she was just following the police vehicle till they got to the station and he was detained. She was mocked as she said she wanted to pay for his bail and they advised her to just leave or sit quietly while they plan to take Uche to the interrogation room for questionings. It wasn’t more than thirty minutes when he was taken away from Susan’s sight into the interrogation room. ** ** ** “I am sorry.” Feire muttered courage to speak to Fola as he came outside to meet her. “I understand your current state, Feire. I understand that you have been shattered and you might just need time to pick your pieces together again. I am not going to pretend as if my proposal didn’t come too fast, dear. I just wanted to pull you out of that thought of Desmond. See, a great percentage of times that you people want to heal and these words you people use, it is just the time you spend crying and crying over again. The time you spend caging your soul and body and inflicting yourself with unnecessary pains again. If you turn that time around and you invest it into what can give you joy, don’t you think it would be better?” He smiled. She didn’t know what to say as she took her eyes off him. “I just feel all these is overrated, Feire. It would do you no better favour than to wreck you more. That will be the time you will spend to take some decisions that would not pay off at the end of the day. Trust me, let me shed some light on this issue for you. Even if you have got two years to get yourself together again and heal, cheating is still going to remain a choice. Whoever you end up giving you heart to, even if I am not the one, the fellow will still be in that posture to either cherish it or trample on it. Relationship has always been a big risk, a risk of insuring your whole in someone’s hands, but the outcome of it doesn’t necessarily depend on the time you spend to think and take decisions many times. Those things are overrated.” He paused. “I am not saying all these to cajole you and make you take decisions you don’t want to take, but at the same time it is not the guarantee that after many months and you decide to give your heart to me that I won’t repeat what Desmond just did.” Feire sighed. ** ** ** “A babe?” Kike frowned as Bayo unveiled Desmond’s secret to her. It was just as if she was calling the wrong person with the new things Bayo was feeding her. She has never heard about the case of Desmond and any lady before, not to talk of noticing that the lady was around for the wedding party. She dropped the call and wondered what she should tell her parents. If she should let them know about this case, sooner they would know that the pregnancy was for Uche as well. She decided to keep quiet about everything and not believe that Desmond’s new ex was the one who kidnapped him. “He mentioned someone right?” She smiled and nodded. “Yes, something like that. He was telling me they have gotten into a fight with someone recently and the fellow even came for the wedding party.” She explained. “Really? What’s wrong with you these kids of these days? You all get into a brawl that is stronger than you and pay for it later. Who’s this new person like this?” Her mother asked. “They don’t know the fellow also. I just feel that it might still be Uche.” She said and heard her father’s phone buzz. “Hello sir, what’s the latest?” He asked and there was a short pause. “Very good. Please make sure he confesses. We will be there first thing tomorrow morning.” He said and ended the call after few seconds. “They’ve caught Uche, right?” Kike asked. “Yes. He said they’ve taken him in for interrogation and he said we shouldn’t worry, the truth will soon be established.” He explained. ** ** ** “Come and propose again.” Feire held Fola and led the way inside the living room. “Are you serious?” Fola brightened up. She stopped and looked at him. “Firstly, I wouldn’t want this to end up as an embarrassment before these office clique, secondly what you said is true. Thirdly, if this is what will make me get over Desmond easily, then I think I will go for it. Lastly, Fola…” She stopped abruptly. “What, Feire?” “I might react sometimes, I might be scared sometimes, and I might act funny sometimes, in fact…” He pulled out his hand and held hers. “No matter how crazy you turn out to be, I am determined to help you get over him till you are fit enough to love me completely. Pushing me aside won’t solve your issues either.” “But frustrating me because of my actions would add to it, Fola.” “That, I can assure you that I wouldn’t do.” “Is this a promise?” “Yes.” He winked. “I still feel a part of me is with him.” “You will heal, Feire.” “Even if I call you Desmond by mistake?” He chuckled. “You won’t have the chance because you will soon forget everything about him.” “I am scared.” “This time around, you have Stella, Mosun and the host of office clique bearing the witness. This is not a hidden thing you cannot express your mind about. My sister is a loyal friend who will not even allow me turn my head to look at another lady now that she really likes you. Trust me also, I am not that type of fellow.” “But doesn’t it sound weird that I just left a union and joined another in a jiffy?” He chuckled. “You have never been in one. By the way, the first reason for joining this is because you have to heal not just for the love sake.” “You words are too sugarcoated.” He smiled. “The lady he got married to today also did the same to me. I know how much I have been in the bondage for a long time and giving my heart out to you healed me, not the time I spent getting angry and hiding from women.” She hummed. “Let’s go.” They stepped inside together. ** ** ** Okay, can we have 30 comments before 6pm and I'll drop another update today? ![]() |

EPISODE SIXTEEN Millions of thoughts were running through Desmond’s mind as he was bundled down from the trunk of the car and led inside a room. His face was still covered with mask and his hands still cuffed to the back. He was placed on a seat and tied to the seat with his hands still cuffed. He was in pain, if they could just remove the cuff and just tie him, it would be better than the agony of his hands right behind him and still being tied to the chair. As his head dropped and he kept moaning softly, he heard one of the guys speak on phone, informing someone that he has been captured already and he was already in the destination they had planned. His mind couldn’t tell him someone other than Uche. He knew Feire that much, she couldn’t have done this to him. “Please who is doing this to me?” He asked amidst his pain. “If I hear a word from you again, I have told you before and count this as my last warning. I am going to blow your brains off.” He heard a voice thunder beside him. “Does he even have a brain for you to blow off?” Another sarcastic tone replied and they laughed at him. He shivered on the seat. Who wouldn’t shiver? Not even after the atrocities he has committed, he was not even sure of the fellow who could be doing this to him. He never knew this was how he would end his life, he wished he amended his ways before all this had happened. He kept hearing the footsteps of the guys around him, perceiving smoke of cigarette and clinking of cans. He felt they were waiting for the fellow who sent them to arrive. ** ** ** Kike got inside the car, crying. “Just take me home.” She said to her father. “What is going on?” He asked her. “Where is Desmond? Why are you here and what exactly is happening to you?” He kept shooting his questions, wearing a worried look. Kike was mum, she didn’t even know how she would start her explanation. She knew her father was really worried too for him to be the one to come pick her himself. “Let’s just go. Let’s leave here before they come for us too.” He kicked the engine and moved the car. “Who are they? Where is Desmond?” “They have taken him away and they dropped me here.” “Who?” He was losing his patience. “I don’t know. I don’t know him, Dad.” “Is it the guy that stood up during the wedding?” She shook her head. “No, but he must have sent this person who came to pick Desmond. He disguised as our driver and drove us here, dropped me and took Desmond away.” “Did he take your phone away as well?” “I left my phone at home, dad. I am not sure he was with his own phone too. We could have called so the caller would hear whatever was going on, or at least call you immediately they left.” She replied. “Who was the guy?” “I don’t know him.” She wiped her face with her cloth. “I am asking about the one who stood up during the wedding service.” “He is Uche, I have dated him before and he has been on my neck not to marry Desmond. I have been having that feeling that he would come today, I just never thought he would go this far.” Her father picked his phone and dialed a phone number, pressing the phone to his ear. “Hello, D.P.O. good evening.” ** ** ** “Hello everyone!” Fola clasped his hands to get the attention of everyone. “Good evening.” He grinned. “Good evening.” They chorused. His eyes caught Feire standing by a corner in the living room, clad in her sparkling wine gown. He had seen her earlier but has been finding it hard to get his eyes off her again. Her cloth was beautiful, her smile was charming, her face was glowing, her appearance was hitting every button on him that he wished he could just go hold her hand and never let it go. Perhaps this can be described perfectly as the feeling of butterfly in his belly. “We all know why we are here today, right?” “Sure.” He heard some people chorus while some chorused yes. “That is because of the beautiful OAP, Tombri Feire. Am I right?” He grinned. They replied. He was just trying to get his words together to make something meaningful just to lighten the atmosphere. “So I am inviting the celebrant to step out and let us see her beautiful face once again.” There was cheer all over, everyone was on their feet, smiling. Mosun stood by the wall leading to the dining, just shining her teeth. She already warned Feire before they stepped out that in case Fola proposes to her, she must not disgrace him and give him a no. She had tried all she could to make sure that she would not fumble in case Fola had it in mind to propose to her already. She also opened up how they had planned the surprise that morning and how Stella mobilized the event planner who handled everything within the short notice. She was proud to be involved in the plan. She winked at Feire as she walked to the middle of the living room and Feire shook her head, smiling. “So, how do you feel today?” He asked her. She nodded. “I don’t know how to explain.” Everyone cheered again, humming and murmuring as she was dropping her head and shying away from seeing their faces. “Just explain with a word, Feire.” Fola held her hand. She shrugged. “I feel loved. I am so grateful for all these, I never saw…” “Hold on, Miss. We only asked for how you feel, not to give a vote of thanks.” Everyone laughed. “At this time, I would want each person here to say something about Feire before we proceed to the next thing.” Fola said. “We start from you, Gloria.” He pointed to the lady sitting at the extreme end of the sofa near the door. ** ** ** “Is that all?” The officer asked Kike. “Yes.” She nodded. She was already dressed in a round neck shirt and black trouser as she got home before the officers arrived to ask her questions. “What did the bouncers do to Uche when he was taken out?” She shrugged. “I can’t say. I think he was just thrown out, I am not sure they harmed him or beat him up.” “Can I have every detail about him? Then also every detail about Desmond’s friends.” The officer asked. “Okay. I can give you Uche’s mobile number and address and that of his sister, but I don’t really know anything about Desmond’s friends.” She replied. “Oh! No problem then, let us start from Uche.” The officer said to her and turned around. “Seargent, get the info down.” He snapped his finger. “Sir!” The young officer behind him walked towards Kike to pen down everything she had to say. “So what now, officer?” Her father asked. “Our prime suspect is Uche that she has mentioned. We will start our investigation right away and apprehend Uche to start with. Don’t worry, by tomorrow, we will locate…” He tried to remember Desmond’s name. “He is Desmond.” “Yeah! Desmond.” He smiled. “I can assure you.” “Thank you. Please make sure you get this done as soon as possible. We are counting on you.” Feire’s mother added. “Trust us, madam.” He sprung to his feet. “Just 24 hours from now.” He assured. “Thank you.” ** ** ** “I am in pains, please. I will cooperate with you, just loosen my hands.” Desmond begged, soaked in his sweat already. He heard footsteps approach him and hoped someone was going to really set his hands free so he could have a little rest but he was wrong. The short guy placed the cigarette on his knee and danced as he watched it burn his trouser to his skin. “Please.” Desmond squealed. The guys laughed, mocking him while he shook in pain and tears. “I will give you whatever you want, just take the fire away.” He begged. “We demanded for only one thing but you have failed to give it, what is the assurance that if we ask again, you would give it?” “Please what is that? I will surely give it you.” He screamed again. “Just shut the hell up and don’t say a word!” The voice thundered again. “Okay, I won’t say anything again.” His legs shivered. The guy took the fire away from his leg and took some steps backward. “You are demanding for the stupid hands to be free when you don’t even know when your senseless head would be blown off.” He laughed. “Hmmm…” Desmond was still shivering in pain. His leg was hurting badly and his hand was tied to the back, his face was covered and he was just covered with sweat because of the heat he was feeling in the mask. Whatever he did to deserve this pain, he wasn’t sure. His brain couldn’t even think of any suspect again at that moment, he was just covered with so much pain and was willing to do anything to be freed. He knew it was getting late but still tied up and didn’t even know where they have brought him. How would anyone locate him there? He has surely come to the end of himself, he had thought as he sobbed and shook in pain. As he was still in his agony, he heard a phone buzz again and one of the guys picked the call. “Should we just skaba him?” He heard the voice ask. Skaba? His spirit, soul and body didn’t know the exact meaning of that word but he was sure it would be nothing good if not death. “Okay, make we just leave am for here, right?” He heard the voice speak to the receiver and then whistle. “Guys, make we dey go.” He couldn’t even say any word, saying another word might result to them burning him alive. ** ** ** “Marriage is not a ring worn or a paper signed. It is the not something endured but savoured. It is the union of two hearts, beating as one, each that would sacrifice for other’s happiness and wellbeing. I have grown and I have come to understand that it isn’t a child’s play as well, it is a task that involves commitment, sacrifice, pleasure and passion. Marriage is something so beautiful that in the natural world, it would be an opening rose, always with radiant petals left to unfurl to warm sun. Perhaps that is why we give roses to the ones we love and often have them at our sacred unions. Em… Feire, I don’t want to say until death do us part because if I had a thousand lifetimes I would want them all with you. Isn’t that what soul mates should share?” He went on his knees and brought out the ring and everyone began to cheer with noise all over. Mosun quickly stood up and stood near her and Stella also. “Say yes!’ They kept shouting. Feire on the other hand just stood there, lost, confused, troubled and didn’t know what to say or do. The picture of Desmond and Kike started rushing in like wind that was let lose. She didn’t know if she had the strength to just suddenly give her heart to someone else immediately. At least, not immediately. She was scared, yet she wouldn’t want to disgrace him in front of everyone. Mosun’s words kept re-echoing in her ears but she was still lost. “Tombri Feire, will you marry me?” He asked. Feire shot a look at Mosun and Stella who were whispering yes to her. Her face seemed not to carry the same emotion Fola’s words had. She swallowed hard as she tried to get her voice. “No. I am sorry.” She said and rushed outside. There was absolute silence immediately. ...to be continued... |
