EPISODE FIFTEEN

It is almost normal everywhere the pronouncement is made by the Pastor concerning the couples, no one seems to ever raise his or her hand but this case was different. Uche stood up slowly and Kike knew she was in for the disgrace of her life already. She shifted her gaze away from him while Desmond fixed his gaze on him. He wasn’t sure if he was the Uche that Kike has always told him about but who else could it be when Feire didn’t obstruct anything.
“Young man, what is the problem?” The Pastor asked him.
He smiled. “She cannot marry him.”
By this time, all eyes were already on Uche, it was like the first time everyone was truly seeing someone stand up to obstruct a wedding ceremony. Feire was scared on her seat, she held on to Mosun so tight as though she was the Kike on the stage. She didn’t know what would happen next as there was dead silence in the midst of everyone. She was sure if a pin should fall even on the grass they would all ear the sound.
“What exactly is the problem?” The Pastor asked again.
“Kike cannot…” He barely finished the statement when the security men surrounded him and picked him up. He kept struggling to be dropped till they took him away from the vicinity.
“I guess he must have been high on drugs. You know this is what we say to you youths of these days, why would you be on drugs? Why would you keep doing something immoral? What profit would they add to your life? Absolutely nothing.”
Kike’s parents were already lost on their seats too. Who was not even lost? Everyone didn’t know what next to do about the issue, even the pastor didn’t know what to say at that juncture until he was taken away.
“So after being obvious that the guy is just here to rant after being high on drugs, we will continue with this holy solemnization as there is no other person objecting this togetherness.” The Pastor continued the service till he sealed their marriage and they exchanged rings. The families signed the certificate and boom! They were already married.
Desmond’s laughter was obviously on a one legged table. It was just fluctuating like GOtv signal during rainfall. His eyes were often on Feire and once their eyes almost meet, he takes his eyes off her and focuses on another thing. He wished the ground could just open and swallow him up. He has already bleeped up and he knew he was in for it. Thank God she never raised her hand or try to disrupt the wedding, he was also happy the Pastor handled the case with wisdom and still went on with the wedding rituals.
“Feire is here.” Desmond muttered in Bayo’s ear.
“Who’s that?” Bayo asked.
“Have you forgotten so soon? My ex.”
Bayo could not reply. The reception was about to kick off then and the little rearrangement was already going on while the music was being played in the background.
“Your guy’s ex is here, Subby.” Bayo informed Subby, sitting beside him.
“You don’t mean it. Who was the guy that was trying to obstruct the wedding the other time?” Subby asked.
“Who knows? I just feel the lady might have planted him to come and do this.” He replied.
“That was a big disgrace, Bayo. I didn’t see it coming at all. I am so used to Pastors asking the question and then no response from anyone. This is the first time I’d actually be seeing someone try to obstruct a wedding.”
“Man, I was also shocked. The reception is about to start and we are to dance in.”
“Oh.” Subby stood up.

** ** **

“Can we leave already?” Feire asked.
Mosun chuckled. “Are we not going to eat the party rice? I just feel we should just eat something before taking our leave.”
“Fola, has Kike seen you at all?” Stella asked.
Fola’s lips curved into a smile. “She has. The expression on her face was priceless.”
“Who was that guy?” Feire asked.
“Which?”
“The one who was trying to disrupt the wedding.”
“That’s the guy I told you about.” Mosun replied. “The one I said he’s likely to be the father of the child in Kike.”
“I was scared.” Stella grinned.
“Even I.” Feire added.
“I wonder what Desmond would say to you now, Feire.” Stella held her hand.
Feire laughed. “I need no explanation for anything obvious. I said we should leave, this goat wants to eat party rice.”
“Are we going to attend this wedding in vain? At least we eat their food.”
Stella and Fola burst into laughter. “That should be true though.”
“But this is really funny to me, guys. I don’t know how someone could have done this. How on earth?” Mosun murmured.
Feire hissed. “If you are irritated by it, then leave.”
“No baby. We have to eat this food.”
Feire kept exchanging short looks with Desmond right where she was. There was nothing more that could be threatening than someone freezing up at your sight. Her eyes were enough to convey the words her mouth couldn’t say at that time. She still couldn’t wait to leave that place. She participated in the chat between Mosun, Fola and Stella as she was often distracted by memories and all that just happened right now.
They soon ate and were set to leave. The time Feire has been waiting for. She stepped into her car with Mosun while Fola and Stella got into theirs. “Home, right?” Mosun asked her.
She shrugged. “Where else?”
“Aren’t we going to celebrate your birthday?”
She shot a glare at Mosun. “Celebrate birthday again? Haven’t we done that together here?”
“Together? When did you turn out to be the bride?” Mosun teased.
“It’s like they are dancing on your brain. I just want to go home and get some rest dear.”
“It seems like Fola and Stella are following us.” Mosun told Feire.
Feire checked through the side mirror. “That’s true.”
“So no rest for you, baby. The celebration continues!”
Feire hissed.

** ** **

It was five pm already. Kike and Desmond were already set to leave the wedding venue for their house after the dancing and partying. It didn’t take time before Kike got over Uche’s shock and the sight of Fola, but Desmond haven’t gotten over his own shock yet.
The two got inside the vehicle and the driver drove off. “Who was he?” Desmond asked Kike.
Kike smiled. “You should have known already, Desmond. Thank God that he didn’t succeed at what he came there to do.”
Desmond chuckled. “Do you now think sooner or later he wouldn’t come back?”
Kike shook her head. “Can we not talk about him anymore, Des. He is a past tense and this is a new chapter that we just opened today, dear. Don’t let that slowpoke ruin today for us.”
Desmond heaved a sigh. “I just feel it is not over yet.”
“It cannot be over anytime soon.” They heard the driver’s voice and the laughter that followed. Kike and Desmond almost froze as they shot a look at each other. There was dead silence inside the car but the speed remained the same.
“Hello.” Desmond managed to speak again.
“I said it cannot be over soon.” The driver replied and laughed hysterically again. Everything was sporadic; the halting of the car at once by the side of the road and the fear that gripped the two seated at the back seats. “What do you think? That it is going to be over yet?”
Kike and Desmond were trying to ascertain the face of the driver that moment but his face was fixed to the front. He didn’t seem like someone they could recognize. Kike tried to watch him closely, perhaps it was Uche but she was wrong.
“Who are you?” Desmond asked.
“Nemesis.” He replied them and laughed again, kicking the car engine and got back on track. “If you know what is good for you, maintain silence. If you pick any phone to call anyone, nemesis will catch you faster than you think.”
“Who…”
“Shut up!” He hit the steering rack as he shouted at Kike. He drove into a street and continued driving on till he got to a bush. The street looked serene, just like a new site with few houses, lots of uncompleted buildings and bushes all around. He parked the vehicle and alighted. Walking to Kike’s side, he opened the door and told her to come down.
Desmond wanted to open the door to get down also when he shouted at her again. “I was talking to her, idiot!”
He took his hand off the door handle and swallowed in fear and trembling. He didn’t know what to think about, the name of the guy or the face that he couldn’t place. How did he end up hijacking the car from the driver allocated for them for that day and could have been sent by Uche or Feire? He dropped Kike right inside the bush there and got back into the vehicle, driving Desmond away.
“Our own journey is just starting, fasten your seatbelt.” He told him as he marched the accelerator.

** ** **

Feire’s wish couldn’t just come to pass. She wished she could just get home and retire to bed but she was wrong, Mosun, Fola and Stella must have planned on they’d rig her home before getting back to the house. She didn’t suspect that must be the reason why they wanted them to spend more time at that wedding, and obviously the reason why Fola and Stella just have followed them as well.
Her living room was already decorated, not to the extreme but the decoration was beautiful for the occasion. She seemed like a stranger in her own house as she entered, scanning the faces of the men and women shinning their teeth and clapping for her. They were her colleagues at work, she needed no explanation to find out that it was Fola’s work and Mosun would have also being of assistance. “Thank you.” She began to hug each of them with broad smile on her face. She was happy to see everyone around to celebrate her though she never wanted that atmosphere that day.
“I know you have always being a crook, how on earth did you guys plan this surprise?” Feire pinched Mosun.
“My friend keep quiet and let’s go and have a change of clothing.”
“Why?” What is wrong with this one that we have on?”
Mosun shrugged. “You don’t behave like a lady, many times. Let’s go, my friend!” Mosun pulled her by her hand and they went inside to change their dresses.
Fola and Stella stood by the car they parked outside, rubbing minds together. Fola seemed not sure he was going to propose to Feire that day. He was scared that she might just say no, in front of the office staff? They could turn it to a debate on the radio session the following week and he would be a laughing stock.
“Guy, man up!”
He shook his head. “I have not even apologized that I lied about your identity.”
Stella shrugged. “Would you just get inside that house now and do the needful? Who knows if there is any other staff there that is planning to do the same today?”
Fola’s eyes widened. “You feel someone else might be thinking of asking her out also?”
“It’s called proposal, Fola. Don’t spoil this parole, go in there and shoot your shot!”
“Don’t you feel today is not the right day?”
Stella glared at him.

** ** **

“If I hear pim, I’ll blow your brain off!” Desmond heard as the car halted and the driver came down with a gun with him. He walked to the backseat and opened the door for him to get down. “I said get down!” He shouted.
“Yes sir.” He shivered down from the vehicle.
The man brought out handcuffs from his pocket and ordered Desmond to place his hand behind as he cuffed him up. His blazer was already getting drained of sweat even though he just alighted from a fully air conditioned car. A black mask was used to cover his eyes as he was pushed and he landed on the floor.
It was a silent place, just by another bush. He was picked up from the floor and pushed inside the trunk of another vehicle parked right in front of the black jeep that has been driving him and his ‘wife’.
“Let’s go guys!” He heard the guy say as he shut the trunk on Desmond and got inside the car. The car got going and he knew he was already a dead meat.

EPISODE FOURTEEN

FEIRE

I actually thought before Desmond would finally completely take this step of leaving me and getting married to another lady, he would even try to tell me everything. I don’t think it would be sensible to claim that you could not talk because you were scared, I just feel he never talked because he wanted to be wicked. One of the greatest errors I have ever made is to conceal my relationship with him, you know if I didn’t hide my relationship with him, it would have been so easy to confront some issues by meeting either his friends, family or perhaps he is accountable to someone. I just made this terrible mistake!
Now, Fola is uncloaking his feelings gradually also. He came through Stella who he claimed to be his babe but now she has confessed that she is his sister. How would my broken heart get to love anyone again? How would I even leave one relationship and just slide into another within a twinkle of an eye? I am so tired of everything, I wish I could just leave this vicinity for a while. It would be a very disheartening view today, seeing the one I have claimed to be in a relationship with joined to another lady.
I can say this is the worst birthday I have ever celebrated. I have no celebration at all, I am just going to have my heart shattered today. Though Stella already told Fola that she already told me the truth and he has not expressed his mind yet, perhaps Stella already gave him the details about Desmond also. But trust me, it is not going to be easy to be in the same ceremony where my husband-to-be is getting married to Kike. I wish something evil could just happen to them today.

** ** **

MOSUN

Waking up this morning and just reminiscing over everything that has happened to my friend makes my heart bleed. I don’t know, I just wish that nonsense wedding would not hold. I am not saying this because I want my friend to get married to that asshole but I don’t want anything to work out well for that idiot. Today is Feire’s birthday and I can only imagine how she would feel when she wakes up, that is if she is not awake already, just thinking.
Anyways, I hope she wises up and doesn’t refuse Fola. I just believe God has summed all her stress together and didn’t make her wait for forever before another guy approached her. It would be an entire waste of time if she refuses Fola because of a heart break Desmond caused. But wait, Desmond is getting married? Hehe! Nawa o.
It would be fun. I can’t wait to catch the expression on his face when he sees Feire there today. That Kike too, I don’t even know. These guys are just mad. They will blow last last, I wish nothing works out well today. Maybe one stray bullet should just hit him where he is kissing the stupid bride, or maybe he falls down and just die where he is inserting the nonsense ring into Kike’s hand, or maybe that one should just have miscarriage there today, making it obvious that she is pregnant. But really, would it make any sense that Desmond is getting married to Kike who is pregnant for another man. I am not sure I heard correctly.

** ** **

KIKE

I am not wicked! I refuse to accept that. It is not wickedness when you hide a pregnancy from an irresponsible man who would be a bad influence on your child. Why would he force himself on me, act stupidly at all times and expect himself to father my own child? Or perhaps, he would have been the one my dad would have called and compel us to get married as soon as possible. Never!
I have always felt Desmond also likes me, so it is not as if I am forcing anything on him, right? I just hope in the nearest future he doesn’t start to hate this child because he is not his and place his own children above him. Why am I giving the child a male gender? As if I even know what gender I am carrying inside of me. Today would go well, right? I have ensured that there would be a tight security and riff-raffs would not be allowed to enter into that place to scatter my day for me. Someone like Uche deserves no pity. I left Fola for him and yet he has never been normal all his life. Come to think of it, why did I leave Fola? It’s been a while I heard from him and sister, I just left that guy heartbroken because of this idiot called Uche! I will not allow him scare me and I think today would go well. At least the security would be tight.
If he has the mind, he should come and disrupt anything here, he is going to wish he never did.

** ** **

“So Kike is getting married today, right?” Fola laughed.
“There is nothing funny, Fola. Why are you laughing?” Stella paced around.
“Isn’t it funny that my ex is getting married to Feire’s ex? I mean this is absolutely crazy.”
“We are going, Fola.” Stella told him.
“To where?” He shrugged.
“Now that I have told you everything and you know I have already told Feire everything, we have both planned to attend the wedding ceremony and you have to also follow us. Guy, if you truly like this girl and truly want her like you have been saying, maybe you should man up and be with her this period she would be facing her heartbreak. I also think we have to do something surprising for her today after the whole wedding saga. It is her birthday.”
Fola hummed. “What do you think we should do for her?”
“Just a mini party, Fola. Perhaps, a surprise birthday part that you organized!” She emphasized.
Fola brushed to his feet. “How would that be? You said we should attend Kike’s wedding.”
“Guy, don’t act like this today. Why have you turned this cold? It is just as if your romance life is dead. Where have you thrown all these ideas that used to bang in your head? If you will register your presence in her heart, today is the best day to start.”
“Should I propose to her today, you know, today is her birthday maybe I should propose to her while the party is on, right?”
Stella looked away, trying to give it a thought. “Would it make sense? Her ex is getting married today and another person is proposing to her today, Fola do you think this would be right?”
Fola stroke his beards. “Do you think she will say no?”
“I don’t know.” Stella shrugged.
“Put yourself in her shoes, Stella. I need you to think well. If you were Feire and I propose to you today, would you say yes?”
Stella gazed at him, lost in thought again.

** ** **

“This is like the first wedding I will be attending that had no introduction but just wedding.” Subby picked his singlet.
“Guy, no start this morning again. Are you trying to mock me? At least there is engagement this morning before we go to the garden.” Desmond replied.
“It is already 7am, guys. The engagement was slated for 8am and you people are talking about introduction. You better be fast.” Bayo reeled out, bringing out his mobile phone to take some selfies.
“What of the gifts?” Subby asked.
“I have told the driver to go and drop it in the hall.” Bayo replied. “That was the agreement now, right?”
“Yes, thank you. Have you called him to confirm if he has gone to drop them?”
Bayo nodded. “I called him about ten minutes ago, he said he already dropped the gifts.”
“I hope it isn’t that he just scattered the stuffs there and left because that driver seems to be a restless human being.” Subby said, sliding his legs into the trouser.
“At least there is an event planner, they would have sorted out all those ones.” Desmond replied.
“Today…” Subby started but stopped abruptly.
“What is it that you want to say?” Desmond asked.
“Nothing.”
“Subby, talk!”
“Guy, I am done. You are the groom and you are busy shouting that I talk when you have not finished putting your shoes on. Meet me outside. Bayo, let’s go get some shots outside.”
“Alright man.” Bayo stood up and followed Subby.
Desmond raised his head and watched them leave the room. “Today is Feire’s birthday.” He muttered as he remembered.

** ** **

Feire opened the door for Mosun and Mosun jumped on her neck. “Happy Birthday, baby boo.” She screamed.
Feire staggered as she tried to bring her down. “Thank you darling. But do you want to kill me?”
Mosun planted a peck on Feire’s cheek and held her hands as she began to pray for her. “Thank you but these your prayers are just getting too much.”
“Prayers can’t get too much, Feire. How are you?”
“I am good. I was feeling bad this morning but I am better. I am not going to allow anyone spoil my day for me.”
Mosun smiled, shutting the door as the two of them walked to the bed. “Has he called you?” Mosun asked.
She shook her head. “He should be busy with his wedding, girl.” She grinned.
“Will you be able to attend the wedding like this?”
She shrugged. “Why not? I am a strong woman.” She winked.
Mosun laughed. “This is the only moment of your life you usually have sense. How far, how will it be after the wedding? Are we going out or what?”
She shook her head. “I don’t know. I don’t think I want to do anything thereafter. I think we should just come home and eat and just rest.” She replied.
“I guess Stella and Fola might also want to come around after the wedding.”
She shrugged. “Then we can just be four here, instead of going out.”
“What if you raise your hand when asked if there is anyone who doesn’t want them to be joined together?”
Feire burst into laughter. “You are never serious. What would make me do that?”
Mosun frowned. “Yes, why can’t you do that? Are you not his legal babe before this goat came to hijack him?”
“No one can hijack anyone, dear. You can only get hijacked if you surrender yourself.”
“Anyways, that is true. But what if the wedding doesn’t hold, would you feel bad?”
Feire constricted her eyes. “Why won’t it hold?”
“I am scared that guy might want to come and cause one trouble today. I am just eager for the drama that will unfold today.”
Feire laughed. “He wouldn’t do that.”
“You were not there that day that…” She stopped abruptly and put her index finger in her mouth like she just remembered something. “What if he raises his hand not to support that matrimony and claims the ownership of the pregnancy.”
“What!”

** ** **

THE WEDDING.

The chairs were well arranged already. Though it was a garden that Kike and Desmond had agreed on, it was exceptional. They had agreed to hold the wedding service and the reception at Hales Garden already because according to the church’s custom she wouldn’t be allowed to hold her wedding in the auditorium because of the pregnancy.
She has always loved that anyways. She has always admired her wedding near a beach and the pastor would come to join her with her husband and they would just have their reception at the same venue and enjoy their day.
They had just finished the engagement and the chairs were getting filled already. Kike had already instructed the security not to allow anyone without invitation into the garden and her heart kept praying everything would go as she had planned.
Getting to the venue, she was seated in her father’s Range Rover Jeep but her gaze was far at the people seated to scan if Uche or his sister were around. She wouldn’t want any drama that morning. “Kike.” She heard her name and faced her father.
“Are you scared?” He asked her.
She smiled. “No, I am not.”
“The service will start anytime from now dear, I don’t know what more to say to you my darling daughter.” He was mum for a moment as his eyes harbored tears. “It’s a thing of joy but it is hard to let my daughter go.”
She smiled. “Dad, stop this. You know you have to keep smiling and keep looking really good as you walk me down the aisle. Dad!”
He laughed. “There is no aisle here, we have only grasses.” They laughed.
“I will actually miss you too, Dad.” She held his heard and they heard the sound of the instrument announcing the entrance of the officiating ministers and the groom- Desmond, followed.
Feire, Mosun, Stella and Fola already got a comfortable seat. They all came in with Mosun’s invitation and sat together. Feire raised her head from the pamphlet given to watch the groom and his men as they enter and she smiled. He didn’t see her, probably because his mind never told him at least once that Feire might have heard, not even after Kike told him that she already sealed the security and made sure whoever doesn’t have the invitation would not get in. He already forgot that Kike already gave the invitations in office and Mosun would have gotten one.
He stood by his decorated chair while Bayo stood behind him as the best man. As soon as that was concluded, Mosun stood up to excuse herself for a jiffy as her phone buzzed. She soon returned to her seat to watch the bride’s father and the bride walk in too. It was Kike, her boss. They were not all wrong after all.
Mosun glanced at Feire at intervals to be sure she was not feeling awkward. She seemed fine, just smiling all along. The Pastor in charge commenced the service as the father of the bride handed the bride over to the Man of God. Then, the exchange of vows was to begin and as usual, the important question was asked.
“IS THERE ANY MAN WHO HAS ANY REASON WHY THE HOLY SOLEMNIZATION BETWEEN DEMOND OLAMIDE AND KIKELOMO MARY SHOULD NOT PROCEED? SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE.”
Kike’s mind thumped as she heard the announcement. She looked into Desmond’s eyes and his was also in hers. There was no hand.
The Pastor repeated the announcement the second time and waited for some seconds to know if anyone would raise his or her hand but there was still no one. Desmond and Kike were already calming themselves as there was no one and Kike has tried to scan the faces on seat and didn’t find Uche nor his sister amongst the seated guests. Desmond raised his head from staring at the ground to the seated guests and his eyes caught Mosun. It was as though he saw a ghost when he saw her, Mosun who knew his eyes already met hers just grinned at him and he quickly took his eyes off her. He turned it towards her again and suddenly found out he just saw someone before he saw Mosun. He didn’t want to rotate his eyes again because he knew who he had seen and if he should just rotate a little more degrees, his eyes would lock with that of Feire. As he rolled his eyes, it met with Feire’s own and he froze. All his attention was already on who he just saw. He saw Mosun before and was shocked and scared, now seeing Feire, he lacked words to explain what he was feeling like.
He suddenly felt like a burning coal was under his feet. She was not smiling, neither was she frowning. She could only be described by just someone coming to his memory- lead actress in a movie titled - Acrimony, a Tyler Perry movie. He heard the Pastor make the pronouncement for the last time while his gaze was still on her, he was praying fervently within himself that she doesn’t raise her hand and just destroy it all when he noticed a slow motion adjacent where he was facing. Someone just raised a hand. It was UCHE.

EPISOSE THIRTEEN
Kike sprawled on her mattress and buried her head under the pillow. She knew Uche was not sure if she was pregnant or not, he just came to challenge her and also use boldness as a tool of bringing her to her feet but thank God he failed. She removed the pillow off her head and turned around on the bed, facing up. She wouldn’t tell Desmond about this whole thing, he might end up just running for his life and encouraging her to be with Uche but she wouldn’t want to end up with Uche.
She wouldn’t want to get tired at this juncture, she would stick to her word that she was not pregnant and at least he wouldn’t come to her marriage to challenge her for getting pregnant, she thought.

Feire already narrated everything to Stella and left her stunned that there could be some man who could have done this to her. She wouldn’t say men are wicked because it was a lady who left her brother, so it has never been about the gender, it has always been about an individual.
“You said the lady’s name is Kike, right?” Stella asked her again.
Feire nodded.
“What if it was our Kike?”
Feire chuckled. “It crossed my mind too, dear. But you know we have a lot of Stellas in this world as much as we have a lot of Kike.”
Stella grinned. “I know right. What is your plan?”
“Mosun and I are planning to attend the wedding party.” She replied.
“That is your birthday, Feire, Wouldn’t it be better to just celebrate your day and leave those craps?”
“How else would I make him know he’s a crap? I can only let him know that by going there.”
Stella fickle her wrist to check the time on her watch. “I can’t believe we have been talking here for the past three hours.”
“I haven’t planned what I would be airing tomorrow on my show.”
“Can I join you tomorrow? Not necessarily to speak, just to be in the studio with you.”
“Sure, why not?”
“Feire, peradventure everything you have been hearing and sensing about Desmond is true, would you give in to Fola if he comes?”
She chuckled. “I don’t know, Stella. I really don’t know.”
Stella sighed. “I understand, don’t worry I won’t trouble you anymore. I want you to just think about it over and again, try to pray about everything also. Trust me, I believe in prayer.”
“Thank you Stella.”
Stella winked. “I am going to wait for Mosun to come before I leave. I want to see the picture of that Kike and be sure it is not what I am thinking, if not, we are all going to that wedding together.”

“Guy, this issue is not about sending mail.” Subby stood up and walked to another chair to sit down. Desmond had gone to visit his friends again after he got no response to the mail he had sent to them.
“Why would you just leave a girl for another girl? Why would you be sleeping with another lady while in a relationship with one already? Why?” Bayo attacked.
“I made a mistake guys, I never knew it would turn out to be what it ended up. I am sorry about all these.”
Subby smirked. “You know if sorry solves all issues, there would be no police station, no court, no sentence to death, man, sorry doesn’t solve all cases. How do you think that lady would feel very soon when she gets to know that you are getting married to another person and you never told her anything. guy!” Subby clasped his hands.
Desmond sighed. “I have opened up to her.”
“Really?” Bayo dropped his phone and focused on Desmond. He seemed really interested than before.
“Yes.” He nodded
“So how did it go?” Subby asked.
“She was very angry with me, just as expected. I didn’t expect otherwise. I just kept begging her, sent her loads of text messages and she just shut me out.”
Subby rubbed his eyes. “You see why it is difficult to help you now? Everyone who sees us together would think we all do the same thing, they would think we knew about this whole case from the beginning and just decided to flow along with you, buddy. How many people will you call to explain the case to like you have explained to us? So we stand as the friends to the husband and they are pointing fingers at our caps that we are not in any way different.”
Bayo nodded. “That is true, Desmond. That is very true.”
“Just save my ass this last time guys, I can’t go and hire friends, I would just complicate the matter, guys. Help your guy this last time.”
Subby and Bayo glanced at each other and smiled, “How much is aso ebi?” They chorused.

“Hey ladies.” Motun stepped into the house, greeting Stella and Feire who were seated, seeing a movie.
“Welcome Motun.” Feire greeted. “How was work?”
She nodded. “Fine.”
“Welcome.” Stella greeted.
“Thanks, Stella. How are you doing?”
“I am fine.”
She dropped her bag and removed her wig. “Hope this goat beside you haven’t been disturbing you?”
Stella grinned. “She has been lovely.”
“Only goats like Motun thinks such a lovely person like me is a goat.”
“Didn’t you pull out that your attitude from your archive yesterday? Who else does that if not a goat?”
“I was not just myself. Show us the picture of your Oga.” Feire replied Motun.
“Who is your Oga? I have told you she is not my oga, you know her name, don’t you?”
“Do you have her picture? I would love to see it.”
“Oh, it’s even you that needs her picture? Let me show you.” Motun stood up as she punched some buttons on her phone and handed it over to Stella.”
“She’s the one!” Stella announced with amazement.
“Really?” Feire peeped at the phone too.

Desmond left his friends happily. He never knew everything would turn out like that. He had thought they were going to insist on not participating in his marriage with Kike but at last, they agreed to save him from shame. He didn’t know how the lies kept flowing like milk and honey, he just could not stop. It has always been true that when you lie about something, you have to look for a thousand and one lies to cover up the first one.
As he drove on, it crossed his mind that he has not called nor seen Feire for days now and she has failed to also reach him. Has she gotten to know also or she was already tired of him? He picked his mobile phone and dialed her number to hear from her and probably pay her a visit. He still wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to tell her; not because he wanted to hide it but because he was scared of hurting her. He didn’t know how she would feel and wouldn’t want to inflict pain on her while he goes on to marry and enjoying himself the following week. It was just all complicated because he wasn’t sure if it was the right thing, keeping her in dark also means that he was still leading her on and she might still be expecting him to marry her.
“Hey baby.” He greeted as she picked his call.
“How are you?” Feire asked him.
“I am where you dropped me, Feire. Is this how angry you are because I didn’t call in on your program that day?”
She laughed. “I have even forgotten that. I just decided not to disturb you because you might be busy and since you have decided to be on your own too.”
Desmond laughed. “Work has been so tedious. I am even thinking of paying you a visit.”
“Really? I am presently not available, Desmond. Or would you like to come greet me at Motun’s place?”
“Oh no. What of coming to greet me.” He dropped before he remembered that he already packed out and it would be a big implication for him. “I don’t think that would even be necessary, we can fix our meeting for another time so I wouldn’t stress you, darling.”
“I understand. How has everything been?” Feire asked.
“Been well, I have been okay. What about you?”
“I have also been fine.”
“Work?”
“It has been going smoothly. What about yours?”
“See, I have a lot to talk about dear. Maybe when we see, I would explain a lot to you.”
“Is there anything happening?” She sounded concerned.
“Don’t worry dear, I will get to explain everything to you soon. I love you very much, dear.”
“I love you too. So we talk later, right?”
“Yes.” He replied and ended the call.

** ** **

“That’s him.” Feire told the ladies.”
“It can’t be true, Feire. He told you he loves you?” Stella asked.
Feire nodded with a smile. “He even added very much.”
Motun laughed. “He is a bastard.”
Feire frowned. “Please, stop.”
“What!” Mosun hissed.
“I still don’t feel detached from him totally yet, the love I have for him is still making me jealous when you call him that name.”
Mosun hissed again. “You better shine your eyes.”
“I am not talking about still loving him to continue with all these, I am talking about… See, I don’t know.”
“Some people can be dangerous in this life. So you mean this guy now is set to wed Kike this coming Saturday, right?”
Motun grinned and nodded. “He is about to get married. Wait that reminds me, ladies. Uche came to office today.”
“And who is that?”
“Kike’s ex.” Motun started. “He accused her that if she wasn’t pregnant, she wouldn’t be rushing to get married and the child is his own child.”
“How did you get to know all these?” Stella asked.
“This one goes to work only to eavesdrop on her boss.”
Motun laughed. “I didn’t exactly eavesdrop today, their voices were loud enough. Though, I had to stay around to hear clearly.” She explained.
“Do you feel this guy impregnated Kike and now trying to marry her behind you or maybe she is carrying another man’s baby and Desmond is trying to marry her?”
Feire shrugged. “But it wouldn’t make sense for him to marry a woman carrying another man’s baby. He has to be the father of that child if she is truly pregnant.”
Motun hummed. “That phrase is actually true, Feire; if she is truly pregnant.”
“Exactly. It is possible she might not even be pregnant, right?” Stella reasoned.
“It is possible.” Feire replied.
“But what does this lady stand to gain? She jilted Fola, dated Uche or what did you just call him? And now, your own guy again? What exactly is going on?” Stella bit her fingernail.
“Whatever thing it is, we are all going to be at the wedding on Saturday.” Motun winked.
“That is very certain.”

EPISODE TWELVE

Feire turned her head and looked at Stella for few minutes. She knew what she saw and it could only mean one thing.
“You are more intelligent than I could ever think, Feire. You are so intelligent.”
“Tell me it is that I am thinking of.”
Stella nodded. “Yes, it is. Like I said, I have a lot of things to tell you tonight and I would be very glad if you listen to me, Feire. Please.” She begged.
Feire returned her phone and smiled. “I think I am interested.”
“We are siblings.” She said and muted for a moment. “I thought you would get to know at the first sight but you didn’t seem to notice any resemblance so I was happy our plan could work out.”
“Why the hiding? Why did you guys do this?”
“I actually told him to let us do it since I was planning to come back to Nigeria. For the years I spent abroad, Feire, I never heard my brother talk to me about any lady. He has locked up and has said he would never give love another chance until he called me and began to talk about you.”
Feire was silent and waited for the brief pause to end so she could continue talking.
“Firstly, I am sorry, Feire. Secondly, I was the one who ensured this happen, not Fola.”
She smiled. “He talked about me? What exactly?”
“You should know what I am talking about, Feire. He doesn’t know I am doing this tonight and I have just thought I should let you know some things before the day he decides to come and approach you and I am also a lady and trust me, I wouldn’t want it to be too long before you get to know we are siblings, Feire.”
“I am in a relationship.” She dropped.
“Really?” Stella’s eyes widened. “You are?”
Feire smiled and nodded. “Yes. I am.”
Stella looked away. “The story I want to share would be meaningless then. He told me you weren’t and he seemed so sure of it.”
“I didn’t make it obvious and perhaps he asked me and I told him no, basically because I wouldn’t have told anyone so they wouldn’t know the guy.”
Stella shrugged. “Why?”
“We don’t want to make it public.”
“But telling other gentlemen would save them the stress of nursing feelings towards you, Feire. It would also save you the stress of men drooling over you every now and then. I think it would be best if you made it clear from the scratch that you were in a relationship so you can keep other guys off.”
“She isn’t in any relationship.” Mosun’s voice cut their talk.
“Mosun!” Feire exclaimed.
“Please.” Mosun shut her up. “Don’t act like an ode that you are, Feire. Please sit down there and don’t just break up with this guy in your mind, break every link that connects to the soul, spirit and body. Stella, like I said, she isn’t in any relationship.”
“Is anything going on that I should know?”
“Never mind.” Feire stood up.
“You aren’t leaving here. We might end up all talking about this so we can settle a lot of things, dearie. You are not walking out.” Mosun hesitated as she stood in her way.

** ** **

It was another sunny afternoon, Desmond was already moving his things to the new apartment he just got. The D-day was fast approaching and he has been coming to the consciousness of accepting the reality he has gotten himself into.
He drove his car before the huge truck that came to pack his things out of his apartment, leading the driver to the new place where he would drop everything. His friends did not reply his mail since he sent it and he has not summoned the courage to also place a call yet. Should I just withdraw myself from all these drama? He muttered as he drove on.
His phone buzzed and he picked the call via his handsfree. “Hey Kike.”
“My love, how are you?”
“I am good dear.” He replied.
“We need to see.” She informed him.
“Okay then, should I…” He wanted to ask her if he should come over before she interrupted him.
“Let me do the coming over today.”
“No. I am presently on the run and I feel I should come and see you when I am done. I can’t let you stress the baby also.”
She laughed. “Okay then, when will you come?”
He shrugged. “I shouldn’t take more than two hours.” He replied.
“Just come to my office.”
“Okay.”

** ** **

Desmond had forgotten that he would see Mosun at the office, he wouldn’t have agreed to go there. He wouldn’t know if his visitation would get her suspicious or she would just believe that he was still working for Kike. He greeted her with a fake smile as he walked on to Kike’s office. It was just as though a heavy load was removed from him when he stepped into Kike’s office; at least Mosun’s eyes were not on him anymore.
“Baby.” Kike stood up as Desmond entered to give him a hug.
“Hey dear.” He hugged her and sat down.
“Where were you?” She faked a frown, acting babyish.
“It’s private, I will let you know when the time is right.” He replied.
She chuckled. “Really? You don’t want to tell me, right?”
“Yeah. What’s on ground? What do you want to see me for?”
“I feel we should get a house now, Desmond. We haven’t made so many plans yet.”
He grinned. “Is that all?”
“Yes. I just feel we need to put a lot of things in place before we get so carried away with the wedding thing.” She replied.
“That one is small, I will get that one sorted out. But, can’t you stay at my place?”
“Exactly! I want us to change that place before we hold the wedding.”
He placed his hands on her table. “Furnish?”
She shook her head. “Probably buy a new house and move there.”
Desmond laughed. “That is still what I am saying, what is wrong with the present place I am staying?”
“I don’t want that place o, Can’t we just have a fresh start?”
“Okay, don’t worry. It will all be a big surprise to you after the wedding.”
She smiled. “I am grateful for everything you have done thus far.”
He shrugged. “I have not done anything, dear.”
“So what of your friends? Have you told them already?”
He hesitated. “Yes, that one is settled.”

** ** **

Feire dropped her spoon and pulled her hair as she stared at Stella over the dining. She insisted on walking away that night and they didn’t have the privilege of thrashing the issues they have created. She has been inside her room since morning, just there, lost in thoughts and also short of ideas on what to do. She didn’t know if it was wise enough to expose her wounds to someone who’s a sister to the new guy after her. She was just a fool, like she has been calling herself.
“I am sorry.” She begged Stella.
“I am a very patient human, Feire. I don’t get tired easily, not even on this particular issue.”
“I thought you would have gone by the time I came out.”
Stella chuckled. “If you even wanted to spend a week inside there, I would have still waited for you. Eat the food I cooked and don’t let it waste, Feire.”
“I don’t even know what to say. I am just lost in the middle of everything. I feel the weight of the whole world is on my head. I feel I am just going to die, I am just tired of all these Stella. I really am.”
Stella chuckled. Let me tell you about Fola.

** ** **

STELLA
The best brother any lady would ever ask for is Fola. He is so loving, caring and gentle towards ladies. I have many times prayed that I marry someone like him, just someone who can be like my brother because he is just everything I could ever pray for in any man. I wouldn’t want to bore you with my story, so I would try to go straight to the point even if I might buttress the point.
He got into a relationship with a lady named Kike about three years ago. This lady was from a very rich home, I don’t know how to explain, this lady was a very dear lady who seemed to love my brother too. I was his partner in crime so he told me about them and carried me along on some of their issues as they proceeded in the relationship. I am not sure my brother has ever loved anyone the way he loved Kike, not even me. He loved her and we all knew he did. Anyways, that was me and mum because he didn’t disclose anything to our dad. Along the line in their relationship, something huge happened. It broke Fola into pieces and I can only say the first time I’d be seeing him pick up his pieces again was when he met Feire. Kike was having an affair with another guy, with some Ibo guy like that and hid it from my brother. I have always heard of someone cheating on his or her partner, I never knew it was that real until Fola got to know about this.
How could she have kept a relationship with him and suddenly started dating another guy and Fola never knew. I think it would have even been better to have broken up honourably than to stand on the effrontery of cheating on Fola. He lost all connects with ladies, he got into his shell, it was as though he was becoming so depressed and I was going to be travelling for my masters soon and yet he was still locked up in his broken relationship. He surrounded himself with male workers so he could start forgetting gradually as if he would shut every lady on the street out from seeing them. He just didn’t want to meet any lady.
Funny that he called me that he wanted to fix a meeting with a lady that he has been listening to and he would love to know her more and be her friend and all those stuffs. By this time, some female workers were already working in the Roxy FM where he is now heading and he just kept hammering it that he wanted to work with this lady and also be her friend. So I advised him to set up a meeting with this lady so they can discuss and might probably pay her well since this was the only lady that seemed to be hitting his heart since he locked himself up. So, he gave it a try and he did his best to make sure Feire wouldn’t say a no to his proposal to work in Roxy FM just so he can be seeing Feire regularly and also being Feire’s friend.
You wouldn’t know how many times Fola recorded Feire’s program and sent it to me to listen to her program and the views of the callers and all. I was happy seeing him send me happy messages again, expressing his mind and also getting better. So we decided to come through this way so Feire wouldn’t think he was interested in her, at least to make her our friend and get closer because she already stated that she wouldn’t want any ulterior motive that day they met at the eatery. What else? I guess that should be all.

** ** **

Desmond hardly left Kike’s office when Uche drove to her office. He sat at the reception for a moment before he entered her office. “Hey.” He shut the door and walked towards her.
“Uche, please what are you doing here?”
“It would have been more polite to have offered me a seat.”
“You have no seat in this office, Uche. Please what are you doing here?”
“I heard you are getting married, so I felt wouldn’t it be nice if I came to wish you well?”
“Thank you for the well wishes, Uche. If that may be all…”
“Please!” He shut her up and sat before her.
“It would not have pained me if you had hidden your marriage for letting me know about it, it wouldn’t have gotten at me at all, Kike!” He hit the table angrily. “But why have decided to hide what’s precious to me?”
She shrugged. “I don’t think I know what you are talking about, Uche. What is the meaning of this? I am going to call the security to throw you out.”
“I am not going to ask you because I know there must be no other sensible reason why you are getting married immediately after our breakup than you being pregnant, Kike. You know what, you are not good at hiding things, you know?”
“I know nothing about what you are saying, Uche. I am not pregnant and whoever told you this must have been mistaken.”
He laughed. “Like I said, I wouldn’t ask you. The baby is mind and does not belong to another man. Understand?”
She laughed. “Even if I am pregnant, wouldn’t I know the father of my child? See, I do not have your child with me, I have none of your properties with me, Uche! You are the greatest mistake I have ever made in my life, I wish I never took the decision to be with you.”
He rubbed his forehead. “I have apologized for all that happened back then, Kike. But I wouldn’t be sorry to wreck any havoc concerning this baby. The child and is mine and you have no right to hide my baby from me!” He hit the table.
“Uche, I am not pregnant. I repeat, I am not pregnant so please get lost!” She hit the table too. “How would my husband-to-be have felt if he had met you here, ranting this nonsense about pregnancy. I know nothing about it and please get lost!”
He brushed to his feet. “So if you are not pregnant, why have you decided to suddenly get married to another person?”
She shrugged. “Whatever my reasons are, they have no business with you, Uche. Please get lost!”
He simpered. “Whether or not you are pregnant, I would keep my eyes on you and if I find out you are truly carrying my baby, I would fight you with the last drop of my blood.” He turned and walked out.
