Why not propose another way to reduce recurrent expenditure instead of reducing the workforce. Political appointees can be reduced instead; I am sure you know that the salary and allowane of one political appointee for one month is enough to pay the basic salary of atleast 10 regular civil servants.

I agree with you. But there are so many people in government who do nothing. We embrace too much of sentiment. whether government officers or political appointees. we should not just be paid to resume and close from work without doing something tangible. I understand laying off staffs might not speak well for a government but imagine the case of Osun, they have refused to reduce their workforce and also can not afford to pay salaries. They can carefully and professionally reduce workforce while they will be able to afford salaries of the rest even if it is at a reduced rate.

This period is really a difficult time for Nigeria. Our income has a nation has drastically reduced while our expenses especially recurrent keep increasing. A wise government will need to cut down recurrent expenditure to enable it invest in capital projects. One of the way to cut down recurrent expenditure is to reduce the work force. For me, I feel we already have enough people in the NIS. They are over-staffed. Government needs to work on increasing the productivity of every ministry. Hence, there will be open and transparent recruitment if staff strength does not meet the required production level. A ministry should employ because there is need not because there is an instruction to recruit in other to win the hearts of some people.

Government are like our parents. They were not able to provide all we asked for but today, we still love them, embrace them and even help them. Lets all begin to think of how we can help this government excel in our own little way.

Every one Nigerian needs change not the nation.
