Sir, Having the most shots, the highest number of minutes and just one PK goal is a bad statistic. So your fantasy of him just staying in the midfield creating and distributing is still a fantasy at best, because that's not what Messi is doing. Besides Messi loses a lot of possession for a midfielder.

So far Messi maintains his free role, he can't be having this type of bad stat. I don't expect him to score plenty goals, but there should a fair balance between his shots and goals scored.

He has the most shots and has the highest minutes played, yet he has one goal, which was a Pk. It means he is actually trying to score, but his shooting has been terrible. Did you see that freekick he almost sent out of the stadium during the last match?

Then let's talk about how he now makes frequent bad decisions, not passing to open players, instead he tries to dribble. Close to and inside the 18 box, if he dribbles 10 times, it will be unsuccessful at least 7 out of the 10 times. He even now loses possession more easily.

Then to the high rating he has there, dribbling counts heavily on Whoscored ratings and he still has decent dribbling stats especially at the midfield and of course he is Messi, he still does genius stuff.

If you are comfortable with this Messi, then you are an enemy to this team. We can't afford to have an out of form Messi because his teammates will always prefer to give him the ball, which makes him very important on the field. So we need him to be better than this if we really want to do well this season.

This is player I've been Defending. Yet, someone says he's the worst out of all our attackers and does a twisted argument recap.

Looking deep into this matter, the criticism against Messi hasn't been a candid one, because talking about tracking back, it's most attackers weakness and even when they track back, it's only to add numbers to those defending. I've seen Messi win the ball many times anytime he tracked back and he's so strong at doing that till this moment. Players like Hazard, Mata(I can't keep mentioning names) are weak at tracking back. The only reason you see Ronaldo is his own box is to defend corner kicks due to his height advantage.. And that's why he's scored an own goal in his career..

I've been following every reply on this post just for the fun of it. I watch almost all LA liga matches as much as I watch the premier league. I see some trying to defend Messi and some criticizing him bitterly. Someone even came up with a match in which Ronaldo tracked back and concluded Messi never does. Imagine expecting a Messi of 33yrs of age to begin tracking back. During Guardiola's time at Barca, he called Messi the best defender because of his strength and energy to track back and still do his runs and dribblings.. You guys actually think trying to dribble to open more spaces in easy? Have you ever been to training with yourself being alone with a ball to dribble past the cones? You get tired doing that let alone dribbling a skilled group of defenders coming with sliding tackles and elbows. Even players like Hazard ain't expected to track back to necessarily win the ball, but to receive the ball when won. Go to whoscored and you'll find out it's the weakness of most attackers..
