The keeper is in close proximity and giving the ball to the keeper at that range with an attacker breathing down his neck puts some unnecessary pressure on the goalkeeper. He was in complete control of that situation and just gifted Alaves an unnecessary goal

He had his back to the pitch and a defender was charging behind him.

The best thing he had to do was play a short pass to his keeper and he did just that!

I have seen several keepers clear the ball to throw in from that position if they felt unbalanced.
