jpmoriarti: I agreed with the guy you blasted. We have relied on Messi brilliance for far too long. While it brought us lots of waoooh moments, in the last four years, it has brought nothing but heartbreak and devastation. So we must try something different. Learn to play as team again.
I am completely unperturbed with Messi announcements that he wishes to leave. While I'll miss him as best player in the world, I think it is right step in right direction for Barcelona as a team. We'll suffer first but a good coach should be able to get the team back to its foot without him. Okay, you agree that Barca is not on Sevilla's level? Alright.. We've been over this, over and over and over again; What Barca needs to do is to get their acts together and buy a player that can complement Messi. Like they did Neymar. Even Dembele was on his way to becoming another good outlet to play through but for injuries. Not stacking up mediocre and one dimesional players like Griezman. All of us here have the right to do our fanship however we want. For me, it would hurt to see Messi leave at 33; not because he's no longer the best player in the world; but because the club cannot fathom a method of playing a plan B.? In another 2 years we can think of letting Messi go but letting him go now smirks of pure foolishness and arrogance. |

LordAdamX: [s]Whatever you say.
I'm sure PSG, Man City, Juve and co are lining up because they were inspired by an 8:2 hammering with Messi strolling about and handing in a free transfer request afterwards.
Messi's footballing ability is an afterthought. He's only done it at Barca and that was with a very specific personnel. In Argentina, he has underwhelmed.
Juve has a worse midfield than Barca. Man City does not have a defense. PSG apart from this year, which required a ton of luck, have been serial bottlers, so Barca 2.0. Manchester United needed a certain Bruno Fernandes to start looking like they could compete. Messi will not be able to produce the energy for Flick's Bayern. He can not replicate Muller's dirty work and that's the only place he can fit in that squad. Inter are a work in progress.
So if any of these teams are looking at Messi and thinking, "You know what, this guy would fix our respective sporting issues"; their entire sporting directorate should be disbanded.
But they are not thinking that way, because they don't like in Messi's backside. They're looking at the numbers from the marketing coup that'd be a Messi buy and saying, "With numbers like that, who gives a f*ck about sporting reasons." I understand why you can't accept that. You've had an entire city, club, fan base, and journos suck up to you forever; it's about to get real.
Or you think Messi would supervise a 4:0 thrashing against Manchester United and Cityzens wouldn't send shots at him? E go shock una. Pack your load and make sure you burn the bridge with the only club that can tolerate you wussies. Messi fans are the most deluded and overpampered sporting personality fan base in the world.[/s]

Over the last 4 years, he has dropped places in everyone who isn't a Messi stan's GOAT list, me inclusive.
Core Barca fans are finally seeing what Argentines and CR7 fans have been saying forever. When the going gets tough, Messi is that last person you want in your corner. System fraud!

LordAdamX: Only you can take that away from what I typed.
My point is whoever is buying Messi is doing so for the marketing. Sporting wise, it may or may not work out, but that wouldn't matter because they're getting the bag.
It's different from every other player not named Ronaldo, who are assessed first by their sporting contribution and any other thing is an add-on.
Ergo, making a big fuss about big clubs jostling for Messi's signature says nothing about how they judge his sporting ability. Just that his addition is a net positive from a commercial point of view.
As for my opinion on if he's currently good enough for any of the top teams, you don't want to hear it.
-Lord Totally wrong. A lot of teams would want Messi for the marketing advantage and for his footballing ability as the best footballer in the world. The only snag would be his age. At 33, which would mean the club paying so much only for a 2 or 3 year service. Age is part of the sporting reason which was why I agreed with you. Even at 33, he is still better than everybody else. So the only snag is that longevity is no longer an advantage he has. |

fourfourfour: [s]Please remove Bayern from that list, we are talking about real clubs not broke ass thieves. Let's wait for Messi to be free before mentioning Bayern.
Juve won't sign him, they have Ronaldo, enough marketing and publicity, except they sell him to PSG and buy Messi.
Messi joins Madrid and destroys his Barca legacy. Won't happen but Perez can be Perez.
United, hmm It would be better for Messi to stay in barca than join a far worse clueless board than that which is at Barca. Woodward will likely want fans to think this is the signing they have been waiting for but too clueless to be able to actualize it.
That leaves PSG, Chelsea and Inter, you left City out. There's little connection between inter signing Messi and Messi actually going there.
PSG is the only possible destination for Messi. His friend is there, they can pay him tens of millions per year. PSG would like to make a statement after losing UCL. Ligue 1 is far easier than EPL, Messi has shown he doesn't like stress.[/s] There are only 2 stressful leagues; the EPL and La Liga. Others Bundesliga French liga Serie A Are famers' leagues without stress, where one team is so much bigger than the other 19. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by tesppidd: 10:33pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
LordAdamX: Age doesn't matter.
If a Ronaldo or Messi is on the market, you buy no questions asked. Then ask your coach to fit either in. If he can't, he gets the boot. The next one can't, he gets the boot. Any player who can't, gets the boot as well. In fact, if your Sporting Director disagrees, he gets the boot as well.
It's when you don't have the money or have a strict transfer policy (looking at you Bayern), that the age excuse crops up.
PSG had contact with Ronaldo earlier this year, he's 35 turning 36. And if they're getting Messi, they'd get Ron next year.
Of course, in the press, they'd say it's for the UCL, but everybody in the club management will cash out. It's marketing / star power. No cons, only pros.
Wia is usbcable sef?
-Lord Age doesn't matter you say! So what you really mean by sporting reasons is that bar age, Messi is not good enough to play for Bayern or Madrid or PSG or Juve or any of these teams? Is that what you're really telling me? |

khingTony: All these stuppidd guys saying Barcelona will be like sevilla and Real Sociedad when Messi leaves should not be tagged a football fan at the first place, the Truth is, even with messi, Barcelona was not as good as sevilla.
Sevilla cannot bottle a 4-1 lead against Roma, Sevilla cannot bottle a 3-0 lead against Liverpool, Sevilla cannot be beaten 8-2 by Bayern Munich, Sevilla cannot lose 1-2 to Osasuna when they are fighting for the league title.
Barcelona has been declining for years now even with Messi, but why we finished second in the league was because we dominated the likes of Eibar and Alaves.
In last year's UCL, Jordi Alba in the first half had a very good opportunity to score, which could have put the tie to rest, but what did he do? He passed to Messi. In that match Messi was not the best player, In the match against Bayern, he wasn't the best player, In the match against Roma, he wasn't the best player.
Messi is a good player but over the years, we've been beaten by teams that does not have Messi on their side, why? It's because they work as a team and do not rely on one person to do the job, Messi leaving now is a very sad event, but I think it's time to rediscover another pattern of football. See this kain kindergarten analysis. In this year's UCL Henderson had a chance to score against Athletico but passed to Salah who missed. Kroos had a chance to score against Lyon but passed to Benzema who missed. It happens in all teams, all the time. What stench are you vomiting? Lewy has been scoring for Bayern, if Muller didn't score against Barca and Coman didn't score against PSG, can you say 100 percent Bayern would have won the UCL? In last year's UCL if not for Messi do you think Barca would have crossed the second round? Was someone else like Suarez or Dembele not supposed to play their own part and score 1 goal against Liverpool? Only 1 goal? What kind of kai kai analysis be all this one sef? |

Bayern not interested.
Most clubs are interested for the marketing appeal not for sporting reasons.

Whichever of the two clubs he goes to, will be lucky and will dominate football without mercy.
Besides David Silva has left. I want to see Messi and KDB, Sterling and Bernado. Jesus! (not Gabriel)
Or Messi, Neymar, Di Maria, Mbappe and Icardi.
Messi leaving to either clubs will cause a great unbalance in football. Man City PSG Inter Chelsea Man U Have all indicated interests. Remains Juve, Bayern and Madrid. Once it is confirmed all of the 8 teams above will indicate interest. We are going to have a scenario where PSG, Man City, Inter, Chelsea, Man U, Bayern, Juve and Madrid would want to sign Messi.
