Adiwana: I heard he generates in the region of 200 million per annum. Don't know if it's true though but that man generates a lot of money through tourism for Barcelona(Spain). Not to even talk about what he brings into the league through sponsorships and TV deals
For the president of Argentina to publicly tell him to come back means they know his true worth If that figure is true then why would anybody want to let him go? Esp when detailed stats prove that he's still the best? I repeat let's leave all the noise; no club in the world can let a 33 year old Messi leave. Maybe at 35. |

I always said it made no business sense to leave now or want to leave now.
IF you were Bartomeu WHAT WOULD YOU DO sell him for FREE? Both parties are trying to make the best BUSINESS WISE DECISION for themselves.
Going on a free transfer means MESSI MAKES MOST OF THE MONEY Going on a fee means Barca makes money from the TRANSFER
get your head sout of thinking its all about football. THIS ARE BUSINESS ENTITIES negotiating.
MESSI is a company while BARCA is a company too. My point of disagreement is with you saying that Messi never wanted to leave. With all the disappontmens of the last 3 seasons? You think that Messi doesn't want to win more things before he retires? If you Messi and Man City wanted to buy you and increase your wages, What would hold you back? 1.Earn money 2.Play under Pep again 3.Play with a better team Why would you say he doesn't want to leave? |

disstroyy: The players are good. Very good. There's just one thing: they lack what Messi has - that X-factor. That obvious superstar, headline-grabbing ability, mesmerizing quality about them and proven antecedence of leading a team. Asides Messi and Ronaldo, the only other person currently in football who has that is Neymar, and those obvious features are why Barça bought Neymar, Messi saw him as his heir and now wants him to return. Same thing Ronaldinho and Barça saw in teenage Messi so it was relatively easier to let the former go.
The pain of letting Messi leave when he wanted to would have been at least slightly masked by the consolation of a heir like Neymar. Forget all these noises these people are making. I do not see any club in the world that would have let Messi go at 33. They don't wear the shoe. A player who just won Ballon dor 9 months ago and who at 33 still statistically had the best individual performance in Europe. Coupled with his commercial value! Everybody can yap and yap and tap all day and all night, But no club would have let this Messi go without a fight to keep him. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by tesppidd: 8:33am On Sep 05, 2020 |
usbcable: I never believed he wanted to leave. The issue I have is the noise around the usual "I want to leave". After creating this much noise his only saving grace will be to win the UCL this season. BECAUSE If Messi under performs If barcelona under performs, Messi would be blamed this time around even by some of his most ardent supporters.
In the corporate world, handing a resignation letter to your current employer based on another offer letter received from a competitor is a red flag of loyalty. The management will cajole and convince you to stay back but never for mutually beneficial reasons but to hurt you. They would eventually make you redundant by getting someone to do your work. You would have lost the current offer and some one else would have learnt to do your job role before you get the boot. MESSI CASE MAY NOT BE TOTALLY SIMILAR TO THIS BUT THAT IS HOW BUSINESS WORKS So why wouldn't he want to leave if a club with better players on current form came and offered him a better contract? Oh wait, I know! I know!! He's so scared to leave Barca because he would flop in another league outside Barca!!! |

A40: Should have been a season to make another record making deal and see what Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann brings to the table. Coutinho and Griezmann turn 29 and 30 next season btw. A pity they are too scared to hand the keys of the team to players they bought for 9 figures. Barca simply don't trust this trio. Despite having spent so much on them. It will be the first time in a long while that we don't have arguably any one of the top 3 world footballers in our ranks. |

How much could the Messi brand generate for Barcelona the next 1 season? Really have no idea, am just asking. If it's in the region of hundreds of millions then it would not be such a bad gamble to let him on for one more season and then lose him for free. |

Major changes would happen. Major changes. I noticed Koeman has toned down on his audacious speeches and affront on the players he doesn't want in the team. The board and club as a whole needed a kick in the backside and Messi just delivered that. Barca have given the world lessons on how best NOT to run a football club for the past 4 years. jpmoriarti: Nonsense!
If he leaves now, he would be remembered as the coward who ran.
Barcelona has alot of excellent qualities. Beating Liverpool 3 nil is not achieved by a mediocre team but the team lacked alot of mental quality especially when the stake is very high.
This same abject lack of mental strength again underlines Messi's Argentina, where they have been a serial competition final loses, again with the stake being very high and Messi being the captain.
Emotions and sentiments will never allow you guys to see that, while Messi might be a great player, he's almost horrible in other things like leadership. I don't see this current squad lacking in quality. I see them lacking in leadership and mental fortitude There we go again! The problem with you guys is that you take Messi for a god literally. But we only mean it figuratively when we call him adios. He has limits, he can neither turn stone into bread nor water into wine. And Fucck leadership, The only way a team wins the champions league is when 2 or 3 players put in world class displays to complement one another. When the stakes are high Fucck!! Who tells you the stakes weren't high when we beat Liverpool 3-0 at home? Who tells you the stakes weren't high when we eliminated Man U? Why is your definition of "high stakes" applying ONLY to whatever game we lose? That's probably because hindsight makes life easy right? I have explained this a million times! Now picture this scenerio last season! 1. Messi delivers a masterclass against Liverpool at Nou Camp scoring 2 goals including a magnificent free kick. Barca wins 3 -0. 2. Liverpool goes ballistic in the return leg at Anfield and score 4 goals. Messi plays badly and is missing but Suarez does a Gareth Bale and pulls one goal back. Just one goal! Or perhaps Pique does a Sergio Ramos and nods in one goal and Barca qualifies ahead of Liverpool for the final. Just one goal! 3. Barca meets Tottenham in the final and Messi puts in a world class performance with 2 Goals and an assist. Barca wins the UCL. Is this not how a big club is supposed to operate? Is this too much favour to ask of a team of 10 professionals mostly receiving over 100 thousand pounds per week? Why does Messi have to be the only one to deliver in 13 games out of 13 games of the UCL? What in the world leads you to believe that the game that was lost was the game that mattered most? Guy chill ooh. |

jpmoriarti: Nobody is trying to diss Messi. He's the oppressor here trying to claim the victim. He's trying to manipulate his way out of the club, now that the going got tougher. Expoilting all the weak links in his contract. He's pathetic! He led Barca to our worst show in European football against Bayern and not a single apology to the fans have come from a so called captain and club legend. The going got tougher since 2016. And he's stayed put carrying a bunch of unproductive players. We have evidence that we have won 3 of the last 5 la liga titles and reached the semi finals of the UCL almost singlehandedly on Messi. He did not leave when the going got tougher. He has stayed for 5 years under tough conditions. And then the club has been sacking coaches and selling younger players including swapping Arthur for Pjanic. A lot of players 70 percent as legendary as Messi would have run away a long time ago. |

DissTroy: Maybe it's to scare other interests away. Clubs like Juventus would certainly be scared by that weekly wage. The only clubs left who would still stand strong would be Man.City and PSG.
But the proposed Man. City deal involves him playing in the MLS for two years and Messi doesn't want that. He's stated he'd like to play in his childhood club before retiring as a player. The Man. City deal would thwart that.
What's certain is, now that the wage has been made known, most clubs would rein in their fantasies. But Barça would be on aggressive marketing this time to get their money's worth.
Messi is more than any other player. La Liga waded in because Messi leaving would have affected the La Liga's ratings, value and income. It's more than football. There's business involved.
Few days ago, Barcelona modeled their new kit and fans were surprised to see them photoshopping Messi into the pictures. It's almost like they were telling Messi, "Bro, I don't know what your plans are but this divorce would not work. We are married for life."
The marketing would be worth it. I expect a mini-movie like "Messi and Barcelona: Eternal Love Without Boundaries". The marketing would be sick. lol This final contract year na die. Barca will try to squeeze out every single penny from off him. Whatever i am glad he's staying anyway. Me myself I cannot divorce Messi from Barca. |

First time in 5 years, there's been a leak of his actual wage from the club. Trying to match the wage Man. City reportedly proposed for him. Now that's absurd. Even if the club offers him that I sincerely hope he rejects it and plays on for the season. By the end of the season he could evaluate the situation and either accept a pay rise or move on. |

DissTroy: ...And it happened: The board, club officials, the players and fans alike begged Messi to stay, campaigned visibly online and offline, and even using children who are fans to manipulate him. He's staying from the latest indications.
The Barça universe begged Messi to stay at Barcelona. Even La Liga waded into the matter but never batted an eyelid when Papa Perez chased Penaldo away from MADrid while Ramos insulted the Portuguese model during the exit process and after.
Never before has one single player brought a sport to a standstill. Messi did it. So much for the disgruntled claims of "we need to rediscover another pattern." Messi is the pattern. Se queda. |
