This is probably a good place to mention that I don't completely agree that the Bible is translated correctly. It is also apparent, to me, that Man tends to translate it the way he sees fit. No one religion believes the same as any other. Even among Christians.
Christianity EtcRe: Does Christainity Encourage Intolerance And Arrogance? by texanomaly(f): 9:21pm On Sep 06, 2014
Ubenedictus: the bible seems to say there is an added layer to this, it talks of reconciling man and God and man to man... Making the beliver a heir of the Kingdom a child of GOD thru the spirit of adoption and a brother with Christ.

Do you accept those layers?
There is no need for adoption. We are the literal spirit children of God. He is our father. Jesus is our brother.
It is the Abrahamic covenant we must be adopted into. Gentiles are not a part of that covenant.

Ubenedictus: we ar all fvcked doesn't cut it... I think it is irrational and irresponsible to accept been fvcked, knowlegde is within our grasp.... And i think you should try and iron out your thought. It was pretty hard for me to even establish a baseline on what you believe.
You are right. I am still working some things out for myself. I guess my sarcasm may have gone a bit too far there. To be honest I was a somewhat frustrated. I am not in the habit of using the "F" word. Sorry.

It would be difficult to tell you everything I believe in a few short paragraphs.

Ubenedictus: among those who are intolerant will you consider religious teaching as a contributing factor to this intolerance?
Yes

Ubenedictus: interesting take.

Do you think religion may fan those flames of fear?
Yes

Ubenedictus: let me paint a picture not too far from every day life, a good portion of the american population see nothing wrong with abortion, the goverment requires that the employer cover the abortions of their employee (health insurance). This is an idea many christian disagree with. Would you say the Christian should be tolerant in this situation (allow the govt implement this policy even though the christian disagrees)?

The question may seem strange, i'm trying to ask, do you remain tolerant when the issue involves you? Will you allow such policies be implimented even though you disagree?
I realise the picture isn't a good one.
No...I would fight them. It is happening as we speak. The Supreme Court is starting to side with religion on some fronts. It's only a matter of time and perseverance. Look what "Hobby Lobby" accomplished.

1. Does love exist?

Of course it does. Do you love your mother? Do you love anyone?

2. Is there anything like 'The One'?
I'm not so sure about this one. We all have the capacity to love. I'm more of the mind that any relationship, between any couple, can be successful if the two are willing to work at it. I don't believe any "good" relationship lasts without effort from both sides.

3. Can one really love someone enough to live with the person for ever/is love enough for marriage?

No...love alone won't get you through. Like I said, one must work at it. No one has a "perfect" life. There will always be trials and tribulations.

There will be times the two of you won't agree. Some give and take is required. There will be outside influences that will try to destroy you. There needs to be honor and trust.

4. Can love really die?

I'm not sure it can "die". It can be destroyed though. There are many destructive traits which can lead to the demise of love. Such as; uncompromising attitudes, deceit, selfishness, greed, violence, and a multitude of others.

As to your question, "How does love work?" Your question answers itself really. It takes great effort to make love "work".

Love can't live and prosper on it's own. It takes hard work and sacrifice.

Christianity EtcRe: Jesus And The Zombie Saints by texanomaly(f):
First off let me say, I love the title of this thread. "Classic". cheesy Caught my attention immediately.

With that said, many have asked what I believe. I'm not sure I can align with any particular Christian religious group at this time. I do believe many have "some" truth. I'm just not sure any have "all" the truth. I am a Christian though. I cannot deny that. Since I believe we continue to learn even after this life, I believe we will never know everything.

Anyway, this guy has given me a platform in which to explain some of my beliefs. Here goes...

darnley16: Matt 27:50-53
Ask yourself what words the original texts the Bible was translated from where. Then go from there. Remember that English was not the original language.

********

The Hebrew Words in The Old Testament

koe-desh meant sacred, holy, or dedicated

kaw-dosh meant sacred or holy

law-seed meant good or holy

The Greek Word In The New Testament

hag-ee-oes meant sacred, pure or blameless

"Saint" originates from the Hebrew word meaning "holy" or "set apart." Here's an example, in Acts 9:13, Simon says, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints [set-apart people] at Jerusalem." "Saints" refers to all those who believe in Christ at Jerusalem, not to a "special" group of people within that group.

darnley16: Isn't Jesus supposed to be the
only person to come back from
the dead?
Nope. Everyone born on this Earth will be resurrected. Even those who are evil, and those who are not Christians. Even Atheist. shocked

darnley16: Are we supposed to take this
story literally? That multiple
dead people, including Jesus
"came" back from the dead
and showed themselves to
many people, but that news
didn't spread beyond that area
where the incident supposedly
occurred? I don't think so.
No historians from those times
mention this tale.
You obviously don't know much about ancient history, if you the think the concept of resurrection originated with the Bible.

darnley16: Here's the first clue that this
story wasn't written during the
time this incident supposedly
occurred or by those who
supposedly witnessed it.
Duh...Do you know anything about the history or translation of the Bible?

darnley16: Dead saints!
What dead saints are they
talking about? Were there
saints in the Judaism during
that time? No.
Were there saints in
Christianity at that time? No.
Christianity didn't exist until
well after Jesus' supposed
"ascension" to heaven. So
they couldn't have been
Christian saints. So whose
saints were they?
SMH...do I even need to say it?

darnley16: Lets see what Eason's Bible
Dictionary says about the word
saint,
(Saint)
"one separated from the world
and consecrated to God; one
holy by profession and by
covenant; a believer in Christ
(Psalms 16:3, Romans 1:7 Phil
1:1;Hebrews 6:10).
(The "saints" spoken of in Jude
1:14 are probably not the
disciples of Christ, but the
"innumerable company of
angels" ( Hebrews 12:22 ;
Psalms 68:17, with reference
to Deuteronomy 33:2.This
word is also used of the holy
dead (Matthew 27:52 ;
Revelation 18:24). It was not
used as a distinctive title of
the apostles and evangelists
and of a "spiritual nobility" till
the fourth century. In that
sense it is not a scriptural
title".)
So, they couldn't have been
Christian apostles and
evangelists, because they
weren't called saints until the
fourth century AD, way after
this story was supposedly
written in the first century AD.
So which brand of Christianity
had saints in the fourth
century AD?
El correcto! Catholic
Christianity.
The abundance of ignorance in this statement is simply too numerous to address at this time. I ask again...
Do you know anything about the history or translation of the Bible?

darnley16: So I would say that this story
had to have been written after
the establishment of Catholic
Christianity and the Catholic
Church, in the fourth century
AD, because that's when the
apostle's and evangelists were
first called saints, wouldn't you
agree?
Well some versions of the Bible very well may have been translated at that time.

darnley16: Do you really believe that if
dead Saints (zombies) came
out of their graves and walked
among the living it wouldn't
have made the "news" of day
or even leave a blip on the
radar screen of ancient
history, except in this story?
If you do...I want some of what
you been smoking!
And what happen to these
zombie saints?
Well "hallelujah, praise The Lord, and wake the dead! There is an intelligent question here at last!

I like the guy in this link. I don't agree with all his commentary, but he shows some historical writings relevant to this write up.

http://www.str.org/articles/is-there-any-evidence-for-jesus-outside-the-bible

"Hostile Non-Biblical Pagan Witnesses

There are a number of ancient classical accounts of Jesus from pagan Greek sources. These accounts are generally hostile to Christianity and try to explain away the miraculous nature of Jesus and the events that surrounded his life. Let’s look at these hostile accounts and see what they tell us about Jesus:

Thallus (52AD)
Thallus is perhaps the earliest secular writer to mention Jesus and he is so ancient that his writings don’t even exist anymore. But Julius Africanus, writing around 221AD does quote Thallus who had previously tried to explain away the darkness that occurred at the point of Jesus’ crucifixion:

“On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down. This darkness Thallus, in the third book of his History, calls, as appears to me without reason, an eclipse of the sun.” (Julius Africanus, Chronography, 18:1)

If only more of Thallus’ record could be found, we would see that every aspect of Jesus’ life could be verified with a non-biblical source. But there are some things we can conclude from this account: Jesus lived, he was crucified, and there was an earthquake and darkness at the point of his crucifixion."

darnley16: Why did he have to
die?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBNpksB6yns

darnley16: Do you think Jesus was crying
out to himself for help or to
someone other them himself
for help?
I think the obvious answer is
someone other than himself
for help.
"Praise Jesus" Again! Good observation. He is not the same person. God is Heavenly Father. Jesus is His son, our Lord and Savior. They are not the same person.

darnley16: All of this places the
authenticity of this story in the
"great bin of doubt" for me,
what about for you?
"Oh yeah of little faith..." Sorry couldn't resist that one. Hehe

darnley16: Either those who wrote this
story were too stupid to see
the glaring contradictions in
this tale. Or thought those
who would read it, were too
stupid to see them. But then
again, not many people could
read or write during those
times. Priests were the ones
who could read and write and
who educated the royalty and
the nobles. Most of the
common folks couldn't read or
write.
Just when I was starting to think you had half a brain. What a shame. Smh
Once again, the origins of the Bible and it's subsequent translation are beyond some peoples intellect, I suppose. *sighs*

darnley16: You've heard how if you
whisper something in
someone's ear at party and
tell them to whisper it in
someone else's ear and they
into someone else's ear and so
on and so on. That by the time
it gets back to you. It may
sound nothing like what you
originally said.
So imagine if some Hebrew
speaking person, told a story
like this one to one or more
people thousands of years
ago. Then those people told to
it other people and they told it
to other people and so on and
so on. Then Greek speaking
people learned the story and
told it to others and they told
it to others and so on and so
on. Then Latin speaking
people learned the story and
told to others and so on and so
on. Finally, Old English
speaking people learned the
story and told to others and so
on and so on. And this went on
for thousands of years. Then
we learned the story in
modern English from others
who learned the story from
others and so and so on.
Do you think that story would
sound anything like the
original story told in Hebrew?
Or the one told in Greek? Or
the one told in Latin? On the
one told in Old English?
And your answer is......... I
thought so!
...and he redeems himself! True dat bro. I agree with you here. The Bible has many interpretations, misinterpretations and translations. Don't even get me started on the "New" versions.

It sure is a kick in the pants, but yeah... It seems to come down to faith. Go figure...

God bless ya Hun

darnley16: What if this story about Jesus
and the dead zombie saints
rising from their graves and
walking among the living,
were about Buddha or some
other non-Christian god-man,
and you're a Christian would
you believe this story was
true? I didn't think so.
Now apply that same logic to
this story. Do you believe this
story is true?
And your answer is a
resounding...........
"Yes" as far as it is interpreted correctly.

darnley16: To paraphrase the Buddha,
those who accept tradition on
faith, are like a chain of blind
men, holding hands over time,
passing along the message of
what the first one said he saw.
And to quote Jesus, "... if the
blind lead the blind, both shall
fall into the ditch."
Hahahahaha...Nice!
