OBASANJO, SOLUDO SPEAK ON UNLOCKING CAPITAL FOR AFRICA'S DEVELOPMENT

Former Nigeria President, Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo today Thursday, May 12, 2022 spoke about keys to unlocking capital for Africa's development.

They spoke as panelists at the 15 years anniversary celebration of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).

Also on the panel were Mr. Andrew Alli, CEO South Bridge and Mr. Solomon Asamaoh CEO Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.

All the panelists share at least one commonality as contributors to the AFC and, in one way or another played a key role in unlocking the AFC's journey to where it is now, having invested $10 billion dollars in Infrastructure projects in 35 Countries.

President Olusegun Obasanjo recounted how Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo mooted the idea as Central Bank Governor and how he supported the idea which eventually paved way for Nigeria to lead the creation of Pan African Financial institution, having Prof Soludo as the key driver.

President Obasanjo also said most projects usually fail in Africa because of lack of continuity and leadership support.

President Obasanjo continued that Prof Soludo's doggedness and hardwork contributed immensely to the birth of the Africa Finance Corporation.

Governor Soludo asserted that it was President Obasanjo's leadership disposition that made it possible for the idea to have yielded fruits.

The Governor recalled how he communicated the idea of setting up the financial corperation to President Obasanjo. And within 15 months, it became a reality after travelling to about 22 countries to raise funds for its establishment.

Governor Soludo said AFC is what Africa needs to move forward. He added that the continent needs visionary leaders who can provide the leadership to execute policies and ideas like President Obasanjo.

He stated that no matter how fantastic an idea is, without execution, it becomes a mere hallucination.

According to Governor Soludo, to stop projects' failure, it must be public-driven and fully supported with a selfless determination on the part of the leader

Governor Soludo Convenes Community Leaders’ Dialogue, Pledges Improved Security In Anambra

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has reassured residents that his administration will continue to play the leading role to secure Anambra State.

The Governor said this at a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, presidents-general, women leaders and community youth leaders, said that his administration is working on re-organising the local vigilante for intelligence gathering and tackling the culture of silence, thereby, giving more impetus to community participation.

The event was held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center, Awka, where the Governor pointed out that the state government is moving forward with the vision of making Anambra the most secure and prosperous commercial centre in Nigeria.

Governor Soludo said his administration remains resolute in its quest to enhance peace and security, with support and partnership with people of the State, especially
community leaders.

According to him, his administration is committed to programmes, policies and projects targeted at socio-economic development, creation of job opportunities, prosperity and the sustenance of hope in the hearts and lives of people in the state.

Making a presentation and sharing ‘before and after’ pictures of various dump sites which hitherto blocked access roads, the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim recapped the vision of the present administration to restoring a livable environment.

Deputy Governor Ibezim who called for concerted efforts by all, stated that the intervention committee set up by the governor was given three months to deliver on the mandate within which it was expected to put structure in place that will ensure that the waste evacuation is a daily routine, tinker ways to convert waste to wealth as a means of employment and added that investors are already expressing interest in that regard.

US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi voiced support for Ukraine’s “fight for freedom” at a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky on a visit to Kyiv, US and Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.

“We believe that we are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom… Our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done,” Pelosi told Zelensky, according to a video from the Ukrainian presidency.

Zelensky tweeted: “Thank you to the United States for helping protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state”.

Neighborhood overview

The Asokoro area is an attractive, highly developed phase 1 district in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. It is an exclusive, upper class neighborhood that houses many important local and international institutions.
Embassies and state house lodges are scattered all around the neighborhood. Nigeria’s Presidential complex known as “Aso Villa” and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Secretariat are both found in the district.
