PoliticsTwitter Right To Choose Ghana; I Can Still Access Twitter In Spite Of The Ban by Thandiubani(op):
Twitter made the right decision to open its Africa office in Ghana. Imagine how this minor incident with Buhari would have played out if it had made the wrong move to come to Nigeria. By now paid government agents would’ve invaded Twitter office, destroyed properties worth millions of naira. In banning Twitter and its operations in Nigeria, Buhari did not take into consideration how this move will affect a country that is the poverty capital of the world (86.9 million Nigerians are extremely poor). Thousands of businesses have already been affected, contributing to the already deplorable state of the country and the country’s unemployment figures. This will in turn result in more criminal activities in a country that is currently fighting bandits, herdsmen, secessionists and unknown gunmen. A country where the economy has been bastardized that $1 is now N493. Governors, senators, rep members, ordinary Nigerians totally over 200 million cannot access Twitter because of Buhari’s bruised ego.

What are the issues?

Buhari’s tweet of course was offensive, a threat to the people of the southeast. He should have focused on criminals instead of the peace-loving people of the south. A threat that made a mockery of them, reminded them of the atrocities of the war and defeated the spirit of the so-called oneness which saw the then government declare ‘no victor, no vanquish'. Without mincing words, Buhari’s tweet shows that he’s a poor student of history. The purpose for which ‘no victor, no vanquish’ was declared was to foster peace and harmony, but in his tweet, we see a president taking cup and drinking wine to celebrate the killing of people he said are his brothers.

Twitter was right to enforce its rules. Buhari is not the first leader to come under the hammer. It happened to Trump. Trump did not ban Twitter because of that. But because we live in a lawless country where leaders think themselves as gods, due process and rule of law is thrown into the dustbin as if we do not operate a democratic government. Twitter doesn’t go about suspending or deleting tweets. It relies on its users to spot accounts violating its rules. Just the way Nigerians reported Buhari’s genocidal statement that’s how government supporters can do same to accounts they believe violate Twitter rules.

This dictatorial posture by Buhari is sending a very clear and bad message to any investor interested in doing business in Nigeria that the government will hunt, gag and destroy your business if you say or do anything it believes is unfavorable to it. It means that there is no freedom of expression. The government like a military regime can wake up any day and clampdown on your business if it doesn’t like you. It will use any available pretext to do so. This quasi-military regime of Buhari doesn’t care about the people.

It gives a clear message to the international community that it is not comfortable to conduct its affairs in a democratic, just and free manner. Buhari by this singular act has rendered thousands of Nigerian youths jobless at a time it is struggling to create jobs for the people - the ones created by the people he has taken away just to inflate his bruised ego.

Of course, Buhari will easily claim the position as a leader who flopped at a time many invested trust in him. He has had a woeful performance in six years. Things have gone from bad to worse. Imagine this: Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world; over 21 million people are unemployed; food inflation is at a staggering 22.95%; just between January and March alone, bandits killed over 300 and abducted 949 persons while Boko Haram has killed over 30,000 innocent persons, according to UN office. Over two thousand have died in the hands of Fulani herdsmen in a matter of 3 years. Just recently, unknown gunmen have taken over the southeast and southsouth wasting innocent lives. The indigenous People of Biafra are on the other side agitating for a country of their own with Sunday Igboho doing same with his supporters in the south west. Niger delta militants are likely to resume bombing of oil installations following expiration of their ultimatum. With all these clearly spelt out, Buhari still went ahead to ban Twitter. Buhari is currently confused, overwhelmed and shows no sign that he understands what is happening in Nigeria.

With the banning of Twitter, I believe that Buhari might have mistakenly burnt his own fingers, setting up a chain of events that might bring about the collapse of his government.

How to tweet and use Twitter irrespective of the ban

Nigerians are still tweeting on Twitter inspite of the ban. If you have a laptop, simply download opera mini browser on your system. It comes with free VPN. All you need to do is to activate it.

However, if your laptop is not closeby, you can download Windscribe vpn on your app store or google playstore. That is what I am currently using to access Twitter. It’s free.

In a time when people flaunt wealth and expensive sourvenirs while celebrating birthdays, a young South African man has opted to do it differently.

The mind of a Nigerian politician is a deep sea. It swallows ideas that are good and vomits worms of hatred. It is a house filled with empty promises. It grows confusion and bigotry. Religion and ethnicity are its sweetest weapons.

For the past few weeks, pictures play out like a horror movie in my head as I see faces of the innocent protesters whose lives were cut short, frown in their graves, eyes shedding tears, asking for justice. I have been weighed down by unimaginable grief, in part, for the lives lost asking for a better Nigeria and also for the deceptive displays of a failed government vilifying those demanding justice for the killing of their brothers and sisters by a bloodthirsty military who have become masters of deceit. It is not like Nigerians expected more from an unprofessional military that cannot defeat terrorists for the past 10 years.

The government and military feed us lies and make a mockery of the innocent souls murdered while holding on to the national flag and reciting the anthem on the 20th of October 2020. Young ones exercising their right for a better Nigeria, taken out like another criminal. Young minds correcting an older and jinxed generation of killers, losers, dictators, and looters who through malpractices continue to supervise massive looting of our treasuries.

"We were not there"

"They were invited by powers beyond me"

"Lagos state government invited us"

"We were there but we didn't fire any bullet."

"The protesters threw stones at us, so we fired blank bullets"

Laughter has dried on the lips of our children, brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers. Nigeria, like a child abandoned by her parents, wanders aimlessly. Many of its minds have lost the ability to think, the frustration in the land is unimaginable. I write the truth; I am the voice of the poor. I write you the truth many will not want you to read and hear about. But, this is the story of my country, today November 14, 2020.

A cursed generation who over the years plundered the nation's wealth, destabilized its economy and superintended a massive emptying of its treasuries to advance their individual quest for glory and power are currently orgasming by spilling innocent blood of young Nigerians. They blind our eyes with visionary lies and tell the world that truth is a lie. The government tries very hard to force us to believe that what we watched unfold before our very eyes are lies, it never happened. They want us to believe lie as truth.

They set against the protesters, violent thugs used in rigging elections to disrupt a legitimate process. The police watched as machete-wielding thugs attack peaceful protesters. These notorious thugs walk our streets and dine with the politicians while those in power turn the other way, refusing to hold them accountable. While unchaining them, they instruct them to engage in violent bloodletting, looting, killing, and maiming in a manner never seen before, so as to find an excuse to hunt legitimate protesters. Block their accounts; tag them terrorists; kill them; exterminate them. It is the way of the Nigerian government.

These evil-minded politicians who come to power to amass wealth, build the choicest of mansions, and buy the costliest of cars will not have anyone disrupt their system. These demons in human form, care not about the dilapidated roads, fallen classrooms, hungry people who loiter the streets. All they want is a consolidation of the status-quo in order for them to continue to thrive. These clowns live in Abuja, claiming to represent their constituencies, but are never seen for years by the same people they represent.

The politicians are fire, they want to burn us. We are the seed they subdued but germinated. They are hot water, we are steel. We can't bend.

The government is the thug, clamping down on protesters demanding the right things to be done. They call protesters terrorists, while Boko Haram members who have terrorized states and killed thousands of innocent Nigerians are happily rehabilitated, fed, protected, and compensated by the government. We are being attacked on all fronts. Just like the politicians, some of your favourite activists are there for what they can get; appear on national and international television to advance their personal interest. Appearing sanctimonious, shouting, crying, mourning over the sad condition of the country, but when they get an opportunity, fall back to repeat the same mistakes for which they condemned the politicians.
Remember Kufre Carter.

The earth is angry with Nigeria. The walls of optimism have broken down. The light of advancement has been extinguished. The sun thinks we are savages. It bakes us with rage. It seems like God called a meeting of fools, killers, thieves, murders, and dumped them all in Nigeria.

Children turn in their sleep. Starving for days make their stomach hurt like hell. Young fathers and mothers have developed emergency wrinkles thinking all night how to provide food for their hungry kids. The earth is crumbling on Nigeria. Things have gotten out of hand. The starvation, hunger, and suffering in the land have made many to ask for divine intervention. But God seems to be too far from their reach. Over 50 years of unanswered prayers and counting. They have dark marks on their foreheads, showing years of devotion. Their prayers are the longest, speaking in violent tongues. But these same ones are the thieves stealing from us. They send billions of our money meant for our development to their secret accounts abroad. They call God a fool while acting like his humble servant. Their conscience is a sword, it only slays.

Foodstuffs are no more affordable because they closed the borders and gave a special pass to their cronies. They watch with laughter escaping their mouths while millions of other businesses close down. A few thousand naira in the hand can hardly buy you food in a day. Many sit by the side of their unlit rooms murmuring about the future. they have refused to take laws into their own hands. Minds have grown old thinking about where the next meal will come from. It is a hard time to be a Nigerian.

Petrol sells for N170/litre. Drivers and conductors have tripled their charges. Onions we bought N20 three months ago, is now sold at a staggering N100. Food and transportation are now a luxury and the masses are crumbling under its weight. Many see the food they can't buy. They can only look and walk past before their heads are forced inside a tyre. We have been bleeped all over again and again by a cruel, insensitive, and clueless government whose leaders have refused to listen to public outcry. They take every word of criticism as a declaration of war and hype its own failure as success. No one is safe anymore as journalists keep missing every day. No one is held accountable. The police are merciless, extorting, and killing us for committing no crime. Every man or woman that walks past them with coloured hair is a fraudster that must be pinned down till the last breath.

It is a jungle where the fittest survives. Tell me: how did we think about making those who represent our interests live like kings and queens while those they represent die of hunger? Who shared this failed idea of representation? We will not take this anymore. The masses are to be pampered. Their words should be authority. These shylocks who masquerade as politicians must be plucked out.

The future is grim for Nigeria. The poverty capital of the world has over 20 million unemployed persons. A dollar is now N470. Petrol is sold at N170/litre. It is as though the world has planned against us all. The politicians continue to live a life of luxury, spending over N23 million on transportation. Aso Villa clinic gets billions of naira yearly, but Buhari prefers to go to London to treat an ear infection. Politicians continue to hide palliatives to use it as a birthday souvenir. They tell us everything is fine because we fund their luxury lifestyle.

It is 2020 and we are in a deep mess because, for the next three years, things are going to get even tougher as the next level begins.

PoliticsReal Truth About Shooting That Happened At Lekki Toll Gate By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(op): 1:00pm On Oct 25, 2020
Events of the past few days especially the globally publicized shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at Lekki toll gate has left traumatic scars in my memory and that of many other Nigerians.

However, the federal government and the Nigerian army have been working hard to disabuse the minds of people into thinking that such a thing never happened. The federal government of Nigeria and the Nigerian army have over the past few days continued a media campaign at gaslighting this very issue, creating doubts in the minds of people using paid influencers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to make them believe that the shooting didn't happen.

This persuasive power of the media which they have grabbed with effrontery can only succeed in the minds of those who didn't watch the livestreamed video of a popular Nigerian Disc Jockey who was at the scene of the shooting.

While the families of the protesters who died from the shooting continue to wallow in pain, Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari chose not to speak about the shooting, and neither did he send condolences during his national broadcast.

Even with clear evidence, the Nigerian army has continued to deny that its men were at Lekki toll gate during the shooting. Can an Instagram video by a reputable figure like DJ Switch be photoshopped too?

My name is Alexander Thandi Ubani and I am going to fact-check some of these issues and tell the truth about Lekki shooting the government doesn't want you to know.

Were soldiers at the scene of the shooting?

First, we begin by saying it loud and clear that soldiers were at Lekki toll gate during the time eyewitnesses said shots were fired at protesters. This was confirmed by Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during BBC's Newshour programme. He said that there was a consensus that security operatives wouldn't be at the scene till after 10.pm. But, soldiers disobeyed his directive and went to confront protesters. This is contrary to Nigerian military's position that none of its men were at the scene of the shooting. The military had dubbed reports of its men at the scene of the shooting as 'FAKE NEWS'. With the governor's confirmation, it is now clear that the military was the one spreading fake news.

Questions

Were soldiers at the Lekki toll gate during the shooting?

The answer is a capital YES. Governor Sanwo-Olu confirmed it.

Did soldiers open fire on protesters?

The answer is a resounding YES - according to eyewitnesses and livestreamed video of DJ Switch.

Did people die or get injured from the shooting?

The answer is a loud YES. Many are being treated at different hospitals as confirmed by Lagos state governor. Over 15 bodies were counted by a popular dj, DJ Switch. Lagos state government has confirmed two deaths.

Were billboards switched off during the shooting?

Yes. Billboards which supplied light at the protest venue were switched off.

Has anyone been held responsible?

No. The military denied being at the scene of the incident. It claimed videos were photoshopped even when the governor confirmed that soldiers were at the scene under whose order he didn't know.

Morning after the shooting

In the morning after the night of the shooting, Governor Sanwo-Olu visited victims, saying that the shooting was unfortunate. He looked totally shocked and disappointed while announcing that at least, 25 persons were wounded during the shooting. In an updated Twitter post, he said it was sad to announce that two persons had died from the shooting. One died as a result of "blunt force trauma to the head".

There were questions raised about the removal of CCTV cameras and the switching off of billboards that provided light at the protest ground. Governor Sanwo-Olu said that the cameras were not removed. On the issue of switching off billboards, Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Tinubu, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, whose company controls billboards at the protest venue said that the billboards were switched off in obedience to the curfew order given by the governor.

15 dead bodies were counted at the scene of shooting

The most authoritative source of information concerning the shooting is Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Switch. Switch was live at the scene of the shooting the moment soldiers stormed Lekki toll gate and began shooting at protesters. In fact, she livestreamed the shooting on Instagram with thousands watching in shock, fearing for her life. Her account is the most authentic and reliable source of evidence against those who murdered innocent protesters at Lekki toll gate. She put her life on the line to gather evidence and showed to the world that the shooting was perpetrated by soldiers under an order to eliminate protesters they believe were headstrong and bent on giving the government a hard time.

It is not rocket science to know that the switching off of billboards to shield bloodthirsty soldiers from being recognised are all intertwined in the agenda of the soulless beings who authorized the massacre of the protesters. However, DJ Switch's videos and evidence of bullet shells gathered at the protest ground during the shooting leaves no one in doubt that coldblooded Nigerian soldiers are responsible for the shooting that has seen as many as 15 people dead.

In a video update on Friday October 23rd, Switch against threats to her life revealed that she and others at the scene counted 15 dead bodies. Not just that, the military officers also took away dead bodies under the guise of giving them treatment without the protesters knowing that it was an alleged ploy to clear evidence that might implicate them. According to her, police officers joined the military men in shooting at unarmed protesters. She further opened up that after the shooting, the security operatives teargassed them. Switch also showed off the bullet shells she got from the scene of the shooting.

Switch who was traumatised by the incident informed her followers that she has been getting threat messages after livestreaming the shooting. She added that she had to go treat herself after realizing that she was also injured during the shooting. Switch asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order the release of the bodies carted away by the murderous soldiers so that the families of the bereaved can bury their loved ones.

doctor who attended to gunshot opens up

On Friday, October 22nd, a new evidence emerged corroborating reports of the shooting by security operatives at helpless Lekki toll gate protesters. A popular Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde had made an insensitive post on Twitter asking people to stop sensationalizing the shooting while expressing doubt as to whether anyone actually died from the massacre. Although her tweet got her serious bashing on Twitter, however it did serve a useful purpose because it made some people to come out with more evidence about the shooting.

She said that a medical doctor at Doren Hospital, Lekki corroborated online reports about the shooting at Lekki toll gate.

Omotola while posting the video showing the medical doctor with victims lying on hospital beds, demanded answers from the government. No longer doubting the shooting, she asked to know who ordered the shooting of innocent protesters by soldiers.

In the video shared on her Twitter page, the doctor who works with Doren hospital said that a victim of the shooting died from gunshot wound to the heart. He also stated that many of the victims were brought to the hospital and attended to.

In the same vein, a popular media personality working for multichoice, Ik Osakioduwa confirmed that victims of the shooting were yet to receive proper medical care as bullets lodged in their bodies are yet to be removed due to unavailability of x-ray machines. He begged on Twitter for help asking his fans to help in getting a functional x-ray machine to save lives of the victims.

what the army and government say

The Nigerian military has continued to deny the shooting. In fact, the military claimed that videos posted on social media about the shooting were photoshopped. It denied that its men were at the scene of the shooting the night it happened.

Interestingly, the federal government refused to acknowledge the shooting. President Muhammadu Buhari in his national broadcast on Friday did not mention the Lekki shooting and neither did he send condolences to the families of the bereaved. In a later update, one of the presidential aides, Femi Adesina while trying to justify Buhari's refusal to mention the shooting, said the matter is under investigation and mentioning it would be presumptive.

However, the government of Lagos state has taken a different approach. While the federal government feel good by not mentioning the shooting, the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has visited victims of the shooting, announced compensation and condemned the massacre. Sanwo-Olu said he never gave any order for soldiers to confront protesters let alone shoot at them point blank. He commiserated with the family of those who lost their loved ones in the shooting.

widespread condemnation, activist call, international response

Widespread condemnation has continued to trail the massacre of innocent protesters by bloodthirsty soldiers. International musicians like Beyonce, Kanye West, Meek Mill, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and a host of others have condemned the shooting. Footballers are not left out. Odion Ighalo, Arsenal football club, Victor Osimhen and many others have also expressed shock while condemning the shooting.

Interestingly, the international community are not left out. From Amnesty International, African Union, the Economic Community of West African states to the United Nation, European Union, International Criminal Court, US, UK, Canada, Ghana and many other countries have all condemned the use of force against unarmed protesters. While stressing that peaceful protest is an internationally recognised right of any individual or group, they all pointed accusing fingers at Buhari demanding for immediate prosecution of all the security operatives involved in the shooting.

Nigerian filmmaker's shooting experience

Nigerian filmmaker, Ideh Chukwuma while sharing his own personal encounter during the shooting, said he took at least 13 #EndSARS protesters to the hospital after they were shot by soldiers. Speaking to Premium Times, Chukwuma said he wasn't at the Lekki toll gate, but was at Lekki phase 1 when the shooting started.

“But from the time I came, I didn’t see any dead bodies but I can certainly tell you that there was a shooting, an unauthorised shooting. I will call it a raid, I will call it assault. I am going to term it assault and raid. That is what I would use. It was an assault and I and I may be wrong but because I didn’t see those bodies, and I have not seen a family member that has come to cry and say one two or three persons have died.

If DJ Switch had seen that, she’s in the best position to say that because she was there. I cannot say she’s wrong. I was out of that circle. I was a few meters away. They were at the toll gate and I was a few meters away from them. I wasn’t there, I was at Lekki Phase 1. I can’t tell you what the military’s approach on their arrival was. So, I wouldn’t be able to tell you that they shot one, two, three, four, or five people. But I can certainly tell you that I took a lot of gunshot victims to the hospital.

If I took about 13 people to the hospital myself, minus the ones that the governor confirmed that were injured, he said about thirty, that is forty-something, DJ Switch might not be wrong. I took 13 to the hospital. So, if DJ Switch said she saw 15 dead people, by her own records, because she was there so she can speak on that part. I can’t speak on that and none of the thirteen people that I took to the hospital has died. They are still alive and some of them have been discharged.

For the record, I was not at the protest ground with the crowd protesting when the military came around so I cannot tell you what guns they were shooting. But I knew I heard gunshots and people were running. So, what could have happened when I was not there, while I was in my car, I don’t know. It was when I came back I realised everyone was running helter-skelter and I saw people falling down. I saw blood, people being shot and it was all looking bad so I decided to keep going (driving) and I could see clearly this time that the army had surrounded the protesters.

“They were gathered together into a circle and the army surrounded them with their guns and they were still singing the national pledge while they were surrounded. They saw my car coming and I was waving the flag and one of the military guys was shouting “ Go back, go back” and I wouldn’t go back and I was like I want to check up on my friends and they shouted that I should “ Go back now!” and then I saw a lady that was shot on the leg and another guy who was shot in the hand.

Yes, and they saw me carry wounded people in my car. I saw another guy who was shot in the hand but the bullet did not go into his arm but bruised him so I carried the three of them and drove to Ajah. They rejected them. I got to the government hospital and they said it was only for mother and child. Then Doren Hospital, Ajah, accepted them and I was happy. I told the Director that I was coming back and I then I drove back to tollgate and they were still shooting and I came down from the car raising my hand up and the guy kept shooting and I told them I wanted to help people that were wounded and he said No I should go back and I said, ‘‘Sir, I cannot go back I have to check the wounded people, and he refused then I took off my clothes and I said “ Sir, you have to shoot me” then he cocked a gun and aimed it at me and I was like I will not leave if you don’t allow me to rescue these people. While he aimed his gun at me, his colleague brushed me and hissed then I walked in there and rescued four other people and rushed them to the hospital.

When I was coming back the third time, I came with an ambulance to rescue more people. While I was there, one of the guys told me that the military was keeping the wounded or dead people in their trucks. So what I was told was that the military took some people and that they thought they were taking them to the military hospital. I don’t know if it is possible that it is true or I don’t know. When I came back again, I told the man (soldier) that I wanted to carry more people in the ambulance and I helped more people in the ambulance and they were taken to the hospital."

what the #EndSARS protest proved

For the first time in the history of Nigeria, youths have taken a stand against impunity, bad governance and political rascality. A group of people once dubbed 'lazy' by the president shocked the government as they united with one mind to ruffle feathers and confront an old generation that has consistently failed them for the past 60 years. These youths damned any political affiliation, ethnic and religious sentiments to unite as a force to make a bold statement that it is no longer business as usual. Their voices were heard loud and clear, even on the world stage as they showed a thinking exclusively millennial. The organization, accountability, resoluteness in wanting a better Nigeria has never been seen in the country's history.

It would be reckless on the part of the government, police, army and all the indicted agencies that have been failing the citizens to believe that since the protest is over, as such, it is sitll be business as usual.

DJ Switch will remain a hero to all of us for standing up to the government, risking her life to say the truth in the face of the powers that be. Her truth is my truth and no one can change that!

Politics#endsars: Disbandment Not Enough, This Is What Nigerians Want By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(op): 8:34am On Oct 12, 2020
For a long time now, many men of the Nigeria police have been acting as a lawless entity used to do the dirty work of the government. They harass, assault, brutalize, and shoot peaceful protesters even when the constitution is clear on the rights of Nigerians to peaceful protest. Ordinary citizens are not safe from their rascality; now and again, they are seen in public space, assaulting and brutalizing civilians on simple matters such as traffic offence, etc. Instead of taking the person to court and handling issues as stipulated by law, these errant officers of the Nigeria police either forcefully extort money from their victims with POS or go ahead to brutalize such individuals mercilessly in public view.

Nigerians are shouting it loud and clear - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The Nigeria police is notorious for always defending the criminal elements among them. Just not too long ago, a senior police officer, Yusuf Kolo, who allegedly tortured a man, Hassan Alfa, to death in 2014 after wrongly accusing him of armed robbery received a double promotion.

Another worrisome case is that of a deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Ibrahim Danjuma charged with murder after he was said to have ordered his officers to open fire that killed five automobile spare-parts dealers and a woman between the night of June 7 and 8, 2005. He received speedy promotions afterward, while the family members of the innocent traders his officers killed after tagging them armed robbers wallow in pain.

Nigerians are tired of an unprofessional police force whose men are no longer trained to kill criminals and robbers but innocent civilians. Nigerians are tired of a toothless Inspector-General of Police whose orders are never followed and disregarded at will by his men. Nigerians are tired of a heartless government that keeps silent while the lives of Nigerians are wasted by those they equip with weapons. Nigerians are tired of a president who runs to Twitter to wish the US President speedy recovery from coronavirus while keeping mute as citizens protest over SARS.

Banning the Special Anti-robbery Squad is right, but this is not the first time we have heard such empty outpourings either from the police boss or the government. SARS was disbanded in December of 2017 and banned from conducting stop and search operations except when necessary; but the extortion, brutalization, and killing of innocent Nigerians by SARS didn't stop.

In August 2018, SARS was overhauled as officers were stopped from engaging in arbitrary arrest and civil matters after another public outcry. The order given by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was again flouted by hopeless SARS operatives.

Due to the failure of the officers to obey VP's order, again in September 2018, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Idris ordered SARS to stop the random searching of people's phones immediately. But this order was flouted again as if it never existed, which led to another public outcry in January of 2019 forcing the IGP to issue a new order for the total reorganization of SARS.

Sadly, that order was totally ignored as SARS continued its assault on civilians. That again led to another order in February 2020 in which the IGP called for total disbandment of satellite offices of SARS. So there is no reason to rejoice following IGP's directive today ordering the disbandment of SARS.

Banning SARS is a step in the right direction, but with all the examples cited above, it is very clear that just giving that order is not enough. There should be a concrete step in motion to see that the order is followed to the letter. The Inspector-General of Police must move from state to state to confront all police commissioners and query them on why his orders are never followed. There is need for a total reformation of the Nigeria police because it has failed to meet the expectations of the people in securing lives and properties. Recent events happening in the country shows that the police doesn't prioritize the lives of Nigerians, but place much emphasis on political shows and events. Over 31,000 police officers were sent to Edo state for the governorship election, but this same police has refused to secure the lives of Nigerians when it matters most. Imagine that the same police that sent over 31,000 personnel to help in conducting the election in Edo state could only send 500 personnel to Southern Kaduna were bandits and herdsmen have been invading villages, raping, killing, and destroying innocent lives. The police must set its priorities right and execute its constitutionally given role in a most effective manner.

As the police announce the disbandment of the now infamous Special Anti-robbery squad, what is the fate of those unprofessional officers who have been causing Nigerians serious pain and bringing the police shame? Will they be dissolved into other departments to carry on their nefarious activities under a new name? The police must provide a compelling strategy it plans to use in ending the era of menace by these unscrupulous elements in the police. If not, then the disbandment of SARS is just another hogwash.

As a democratic government, the police are by constitutional order supposed to protect and save lives. It is not to be used as a political tool to disobey the same constitution that created it. Disrupting peaceful protests and allowing its officers to attack and brutalize civilians expressing their rights is a serious indictment on the police, and that happening in 2020 shows to all that our police has now become a puppet being used by the federal government to cripple dissenting voices and oppress those opposing the injustice in the country.

The Nigeria police must evolve. All democratic practices must be followed and respected as the letters of the law are not ambiguous. While the rest of the world has made an improvement by investing in technology, the Nigeria police force still lags behind refusing to embrace the digital age. Is it a taboo if police officers in Nigeria go about with body cameras? Will heaven fall if police conduct patrols with cars that are roadworthy instead of the eyesore we see them in all the time? The culture of decay has eaten deep into the police, so much so that nothing seems to work there except extortion and bribery. Bail is free, but when you go to the police to bail someone, they will force you to pay. The system is so bleeped.

Nigerians want a police force that is accountable. Guns and ammunition must be accounted for by all officers. We have seen police officers who are into armed robbery; some even go as far as selling guns and ammunition to robbers.

As Nigerians hail the disbandment of SARS, they expect that proactive measures will be put in place to curtail the troubling excesses that have kept millions of Nigerians protesting online and offline against the police. Let it not be another empty noise from the IGP and after some months, we will be back again protesting #EndSars. Nigerians are tired of using a cosmetic approach to an issue that has cost many innocent lives.

I stand with these innocent Nigerians killed by the police - Jimoh Isiaka, Kolade Johnson, Ifeoma Abugu, Ayomike Taiwo, Chibuike Anams, Timayiu Kazeem, Emmanuel Egbo, Peter Ofurum, Godgift Ferguson Ekerete, Tony Oruama, Harry Ataria, Daniel Adewuyi Tella, Modebayo Awosika, Chinedu Ani, Linda Igwetu, Tina Ezekwe - to demand for a better police, Nigeria and government.

Politics60th Independence Anniversary Of Tears, Pain, And Suffering - By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(op): 6:32pm On Oct 01, 2020
As Nigeria marks its 60th Independence anniversary today, Alexander Thandi Ubani captures the mood of the masses.

=====

The numerous protests going on in different states of Nigeria today have summarised the state of the nation. As I write today, survival in most homes is by the grace of God as many things have turned upside down in my country. From prices of foodstuffs to pathetic unemployment figures, rampant folding of businesses, and lame economy - the country Nigeria is a total mess.

In all honesty, there is nothing to celebrate as Nigeria marks its 60th anniversary today. From every corner of the country you look at, you will see Nigerians lamenting one thing or the other about the country. It is only the rich and famous who have all the resources to buy happiness that can beat their chest and celebrate the country. Millions of Nigerians languish in poverty and many have not eaten today after losing their jobs as a result of the crippling pandemic and the blind leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. His government has been consistent with its resolve to punish the masses by imposing hikes and taxes without consideration to the pains the pandemic has already brought on them.

If Nigerians had a hint that Buhari would come to oppress and punish them in 2020, I swear they would have sent him to Daura without transport money. They were warned anyway. Nigerians just don't listen! They forgot easily that a leopard never changes its spots.

It has been five years of hell under President Muhammadu Buhari and worst still, Labour seems to have taken a sip from his weed and refused to help Nigerians call him to order. Those who take to the streets to protest are rounded up, arrested, and bundled into police vans. Some journalists are locked up for months without their families even realizing that they have been arrested by state police. It is like we are still under military dictatorship.

It has always been the same story of betrayal from one government to the other after making promises it cannot fulfill when voted into power. This regime of Buhari has intentionally brought punishment and suffering on the people. While governments of other climes find means to provide palliatives for citizens rendered homeless and jobless by the pandemic, Buhari and his officials look for opportunities to exploit people and businesses by imposing new taxes, tariffs, and all manner of levies just to make sure they extort money from the masses to fund their privileged lifestyles.

Worst still, the government thinks it is a sin for Nigerians to enjoy a lower petrol price than Saudi Arabia, that is why it hiked petrol to N161/liter. It forgot easily that a country like Angola sells petrol at a mere N97/litre. The recent hike in petrol price and electricity tariff by the government of Buhari at a time businesses have completely shut down and many have lost their jobs shows how heartless and wicked the president and his advisers have become in recent times. This new policy is coming at a time the government just increased the Value Added Tax. Imagine the crisis going on in many homes where fathers and mothers cannot even afford to feed their children, then being forced to pay more for petrol and electricity. Of course, the ruthlessness of Buhari's government is not new, as he is a former military dictator who seems to be detached from the everyday happenings around him. He feigns ignorance as people continue to suffer and commit suicide. He charges the police, army, and the DSS to clamp down on protesters who come out to register their displeasure because of the devastating hunger caused by the devilish policies of the government. In Buhari's Nigeria, many people are chased away from their homes by terrorists. Bandits storm villages, rape, massacre and destroy homes. Fulani herdsmen go crazy at will, murder and slaughter people as if they are animals. Government officials appointed by Buhari are accused of being busy sharing cars and recovered loot among themselves, re-looting and embezzling public funds at will. Monies meant for school feeding programme are diverted into private accounts. Nigeria is in disarray!!

At 60, after being manhandled by several dishonest, greedy, and selfish looters and leaders, Nigeria has nothing good to show for as it marks its independence. It has been stories of corruption, electoral fraud, infrastructural decay, bad leadership and many more. It is obvious the country is rattled by curses placed on it by the millions of innocent souls wasted during the civil war.

Nigeria is 60 today, but it is the politicians that have benefitted. They have for the past 60 years willfully left the country in a state of quagmire in order to continue to enrich themselves. They have successfully planted their children in positions of authority to continue their devilish legacies. Their children head top government agencies, parastatals, and ministries. When the poor masses cry about the crippling condition of the nation, the elite class and their children laugh at them.

From all indication, it is obvious that Nigeria is a God-forsaken country gifted with heartless politicians and the evil-minded elite class who get serious orgasms by watching the masses suffer. Sadly, this same masses will disgrace and lynch a petty thief for stealing N50, but will praise and worship a politician who stole billions of naira. They will go on social media to hail and support him as the country's next president even when a pending court case how he stole billions from his state is there for all to see. When you ask them to tell their master to do the right thing by clearing his name first before contesting for such an elevated position, they call you names. A faulty society of goons.

The masses are their own enemies. They prefer to take N1000 at polling units to vote for the wrong candidates and after cry and starve to death because the same person they took money from to vote for has refused to bring development to the people. Nigerian masses suffer and smile because they prefer to cry on social media but refuse to come out during protests. Fools!

As we mark 5 years of Buhari in power and Nigeria's 60th independence anniversary, it has been very sad years of lamentation, poverty, suffering, pain, and sorrow. The common man has been forced to wallow in abject poverty as promises made before the 2015 elections have all been abandoned. In 2020, many Nigerian homes do not have steady electricity and cannot afford a common one square meal. Electricity and petrol tariffs have tripled. Massive loss of jobs and disturbing unemployment figures have continued to haunt us. We are in hellfire right now.

So when you get the opportunity to elect new leaders come 2023, remember that when the suffering begins, it will affect you, your family, and community. Taking money to vote for tyrannical dullards whose only achievement in life is grabbing power through a coup, will bring us nothing but total regret and suffering.

Celebrities#bbnaija: Don't Waste Your Money Voting For These Three Lockdown Housemates by Thandiubani(op): 8:19pm On Aug 23, 2020
Written by Alexander Thandi Ubani

Before I begin, I want to say that my money is on Laycon to win the show. He has shown that small stature doesn't mean that you shouldn't have sense. He's an intelligent, smart, and down-to-earth person. If he wins or Dorathy, Prince or Praise does, I will be very happy.

------

I am happy the BBNaija lockdown show is here because it is helping reduce the anxiety, restlessness, high blood pressure, kata-kata, brought upon us by our incompetent and irresponsible leaders.

So for those religious folks who hide in their rooms to watch the show and come on social media to call for its closure, God will punish you people. Just dodge me.

If you don't know, BBNaija 2020 is a good comic relief for our irreligious butts to remain a bit sane in this hell fire called Nigeria. If not for this show, how can we cope when the wife of the President reportedly traveled to Dubai to treat her neck, only to come back to tell Nigerians to tell the government to look into the health sector because things are not working fine there. After the health tourism, she's back to preach to us about the state of hospitals when she can gently enter 'za oza room' and whisper into Baba Buhari's ears so that he can make the necessary changes. When Baba develops another small ear problem, they will rush him to the UK. No matter how long we shout, nothing will stop them from traveling abroad for headache.

Back to the wonderful Big Brother Naija lockdown show: folks I bet you don't know that there are some housemates you shouldn't waste your hard-earned money voting for them to win the show. This is because most of them are doing far better than you financially and otherwise. So what is the essence of your poor ass coming to waste your money to make a rich man or woman richer and famous. I'd rather make someone poor and well mannered rich and famous. I want someone who would affect millions with his music or charity to win the show. I am not hiding mouth. I can't stand someone who will use the money to get more plastic surgeries or spend it lavishly on women to win this edition of the show o. E shock you?

I have been following this show religiously and this year's edition is quite different from the previous ones. Biggie and the organizers handpicked sons and daughters of rich people and made a mockery of the millions of poor people who spent hours auditioning for the show. Not even one yeye Facebook, Twitter or Instagram celebrity. Shuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Some of the contestants even didn't audition, as I heard. They used connection to enter the show. E no get where corruption no reach for this country o.

When I watched that day 4 of the show where the housemates talked about places they have traveled, I pitied poor Nigerians wasting precious hours auditioning for a show that is now meant for the rich and plastic surgery addicts, who come with the perfect body in order to win the show, yet will be busy calling other housemates with natural endowments shapeless amoebas during a fight.

In all honesty, these three people don't need the money. Well, I might give a little exemption to the third person. But, the truth is that these three are already doing well for themselves financially. They already have gotten the fame and from what they said with their own mouths, giving them your votes and in essence, helping them win the show is not worth the effort:
.

1). Terseer Kiddwaya

This 27-year-old self-employed son of a billionaire from Benue state has lived almost his entire life in the UK. He is an heir to over a billion naira forture.

He brags about his fast cars and doesn't hide the fact that his father is mega-rich. He recently bragged that he is worth more than all the housemates combined. Kiddwaya doesn't need your money as I am sure his father Terry Waya who recently embraced social media to campaign for his son must be funding people to vote for him. So why the heck will you poor thing who may be struggling for money to eat today be wasting that money you won via giveaway on social media be using it to vote for this rich kid? Pause. Sit up. Roll your tongue. Then count your teeth with it and see if you are alright!!

2). Nengi

Her real name is Rebecca "Nengi" Hampson. She's 22 years according to her. She's also from Bayelsa state and a former model and MBGN Top 5 contestant dragged online recently for allegedly using football age to enter the show [that's a story for another day].

From what I have watched so far from the show, Nengi is a manipulator. She may not have come from a rich home, but life has been a rollercoaster for her.

She has spent most of her life abroad, moving from London to USA and other European countries with so much ease. She's financially okay to the point that she had to enhance her body through surgery. Yes, she said it herself.

She's good at body-shaming fellow housemates even though she can't fight and had to go under the knife to get a banging body. There is no good thing coming out of you as a fan dedicating energy to use your hard-earned money to vote for a woman who reminds every other person how bad they look just because she has surgically enhanced her body to look perfect. Apart from body-shaming people, her other great skill is her ability to run away from intellectual discussions in the house. My vote can't go to her. She's well to do, let her manage the fame.

3). Brighto

The reason why I am putting Brighto in this list is that this Sailor is very well underrated in the house, but, he is very loaded and well-traveled. From his travel history, this man has toured places even the richest in the country haven't visited yet. This pastor-wannabe is packed with wisdom and has shown it all through the show.

His full name is Ezekiel Bright Osemudiame aka “Brighto”. He is a 29-year-old sailor from Edo State and the youngest of six kids. He holds a degree in Marine Engineering from Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Egypt with several other professional certifications. You can vote for him though, but he is surely not among the less privileged in the house.

In conclusion, though, it is not like the fans have the final say because our votes don't really count as it should normally do. This is because the power to evict housemates now resides with the housemates. Even after the social media protest some days ago, it seems like the organizers of the show don't give a damn about how fans feel.

-------

With the list exhausted, I am hoping Laycon continues his stellar performance in the house so far even though he almost got carried away by his situationship with Erica. Winning the Airtel game shows that his head is still in the game. Another character I admire is Prince. He has a very focused mind and is very competitive. Telling Tolanibaj that he doesn't want to embarrass himself by having sex on national television won my heart. His acting skill is topnotch. Praise started well, then almost ruined everything with his relationship with Ka3na. Thank God he has bounced back and I am expecting that even if he doesn't win the money, he has gone somewhere with his stay in the house already. Then the only woman in the house I adore - Dorathy. She is really my kind of woman. Not too shouty; not that loud, but always on point. She knows her onions and can stand up for herself anytime. She can't be intimidated by anyone. She's a fighter. Good cook and a home builder.

You can vote for Ozo (he's fine sha but doesn't have 'woman' sense), Erica, Neo, Vee, Lucy, Wathoni, Tolanibaj, Trikytee. It looks like they will appreciate the money. But, don't go about wasting your money on people who have already made it in life.

PoliticsIs Orji Uzor Kalu Bad Market For Igbo Presidency In 2023? By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(op): 11:52am On Aug 01, 2020
I was a tiny little boy at Government College Umuahia in 1999 when Orji Uzor Kalu began his first reign as the Governor of Abia state. It was after years of military bastardization of the country's economy and an uninterrupted looting spree by its evil-minded officers, just after the 'heavenly' intervention that led to the death of Nigeria's most notorious thief, Sani Abacha.

The atmosphere for a democratic system of government was at most cheering, expectant, and very accommodating with many Nigerians believing that the return to democracy would erase decades of satanic leadership from the men in boots. It is over 20 years ago, and here I am a sad grown man writing about someone who governed my state while I was still a little boy, now harbouring political desires to rule the nation. Sadly, since the exile of the military from the helms of our political and economic affairs, we have witnessed little or no change.

The faint memories I have of Orji Kalu are not that bad. I could remember coming out of the school gate in my pink shirt, brown short with brown sandals, brown belt, and school bag, seeing a long white bus conveying hundreds of students free of charge all the way from Umudike through, National Root Crops Research Institute, then Government College, Ofeke to Umuahia main town. It was a sight to behold as smiles on their faces could not hide the joy of such a gift. There were also road constructions in Abia state, and he was very popular at the time, young and desirous to work. Truth be told, his reign was not that spectacular.

Examining the political and moral credentials of Orji Uzor Kalu, putting into perspective the changing political dynamics, it is quite safe to say he is formidable but flawed. He has an obese wealth of political experience having served as a two-time governor and now senator. He has the financial muscle to blow our ears away with his campaigns across the 36 states of the federation, even Abuja. Such is his envious political resume that supporters recently besieged him asking him to declare for the presidency in 2023.

Honestly, I believe Kalu shouldn't waste his money on campaigns trying to please sycophants urging him to run for president in 2023. Being a two-time governor and now senator is enough privilege in his exasperating political career. It will be a chase after the wind for him to heed the call of desperate people and waste his time, energy, and resources on a campaign that is dead on arrival.

Of course, he has political reach outside the south and can boast of few political allies; but there are myriads of problems confronting him should he dare declare for president in 2023.

Kalu has a serious corruption case hanging on his neck after serving as Abia state governor for 8 years. To be honest, many people still consider him guilty even after the Supreme Court ruling. He is alleged to have stolen N7.1billion from Abia state treasury for which he was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison by a High Court before the Supreme Court nullified the prison sentence.

Interestingly, the Supreme Court based its judgment on the fact that Justice Mohammed Idris who sentenced Kalu to 12 years imprisonment had already become a Justice in the Court of Appeal, so should not have sat at the High Court to entertain Kalu's case. The Supreme Court after nullifying the sentence, ordered a retrial. The curious part is that all the evidence used to nab Kalu by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission leading to his conviction by the High Court are still intact and incontrovertible. So, should the case come up again, it is likely to follow the same process that led to his earlier conviction. This baggage is too heavy for someone who wants to be the first Igbo President since the fourth republic. In saner climes, a sensible man would forego his political ambition to clear his name, especially on an allegation that is troubling.

Even if he brushes aside the corruption burden hanging on his neck, the next curious question is: which party is going to give him ticket to run for president in 2023? I will bet one of my balls that the All Progressives Congress will not give its presidential slot to Orji Kalu. The political weather in Nigeria today, considering what happened in Edo state is a pointer to the fact that the ruling party will not want to risk losing power come 2023, as such will not want to give its presidential slot to someone who has corruption case hanging over his head. However, if he decides to use another platform other than the APC or the Peoples Democratic Party, his presidential ambition will suffer instant acute paralysis.

Kalu is aware that in a time like this, numbers are more important than money. Any politician desirous of fulfilling his or her political ambition to become Nigeria's president must declare under the two big parties in Nigeria or form an alliance with the big parties, anything less is just a mere dream. Kalu knows this and that is why the likes of Sowore, Mogalu and all these new breed of politicians who seem different from the old political hags have continued to fail because the Nigerian masses do not care about their resume or what they have to offer, but prefer to follow the big political parties sheepishly. Getting APC's presidential slot is another herculean task that will hamper Kalu's 2023 ambition.

Considering APC's performance in the last 5 years, Nigerians are obviously tired of the party. The unending promises that never were fulfilled have brought Nigerians untold hardship with people complaining bitterly over their decision to vote President Muhammadu Buhari as president. The bloodshed by bandits, Boko Haram, and herdsmen all over the country is a turnoff even to his most hardcore supporters. His inability to end the spilling of the innocent blood of our people by Boko Haram terrorists/bandits, the massive corruption in his government, and the crippling cost of living have turned fans of the administration to foes. It is going to be a hard year for APC come 2023 to bring out someone of Buhari's calibre, and for the life of it, Kalu is not that person.

I believe the reward for a political position should be measured by performance and not who has the biggest pocket. However, the awkward trend of putting people with big pockets ahead of our every political aspiration has always backfired leaving the masses in a cesspit of unending penury. That is why I believe should Kalu go-ahead to declare for the 2023 presidency, it will be a disaster for the chances of the Igbos to ascend the number one position in the land, at a time everyone knows it is there turn.

Ndigbo should open their eyes wide and search for the right man. Come as one and not allow the stupid idea of fronting 10 Igbo candidates in 2023 which breeds disunity. Let the old politicians go, bring in trailblazers who are capable of effecting real change for the benefit of all. Had Kalu come with no baggage, I am certain that he would have stood a very good chance of becoming President in 2023.

I love Kalu and harbour no ill-feeling towards him, but in 2023 he is not the man to lead the Igbos in Aso Rock.

CelebritiesHushpuppi And The Nigerian Culture Of Silence By Alexander Ubani by Thandiubani(op): 5:23am On Jun 14, 2020
I am convinced that anybody engaged in fraud and has the audacity to show off such wealth on social media is a buffoon dancing to the music of death being played by his village people.

Check this out na. How can you be stealing from people and showing off the money when you have no known business that can legitimately fetch you the kind of money you are displaying for the whole world to see?

That brings us to the issue of Raymond Igbalodely aka Hushpuppi - the so-called Gucci king, giveaway macho, luxury car fanatic, Instagram celebrity and sweet life ambassador currently a surprise guest of the International police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is alleged to be answering questions for fraud to the tune of $100 million. If you call him Mr flambouyant, then you will be damn right.

Hushpuppi out of the blues, rose to social media fame by showing off incredible wealth on social media. It was just stupendous that celebrities and ordinary Nigerians turned beggars in his DM. Nigerians flocked to his page to admire his luxury living, private jet travels, designer wears & watches, luxury cars and many shopping sprees displayed on his social media page. It was an addiction to many who slept and woke up on his page for giveaways, leaving thousands of comments how they would love to live his life just for a day. It wasn't long before a deluge of poor Nigerians wishing to be like him began 'famzing' him big time and before you could call Buhari, Hushpuppi became bigger than most Nigerian musicians who have made hits after hits in the past and his fan base of hungry warriors grew rapidly.

Beyond all these, the mystery behind his luxury lifestyle still intrigued people. How does he make his money? What does he do? Does he have a company, business? Is he a prince bequeathed enormous wealth by his late father who must have been a rich king? These questions worried sane minds who wondered what could be the source of Hushpuppi's stinking wealth. It got to a level that he started rubbing shoulders with established industry acts like Phyno, Kcee, Davido and Ice Prince who legitimately make a living from music, accusing them of wearing fake designer wears.

Ofcourse, it is an open secret that many believe that your favourite Instagram celebrity, Hushpuppi is a fraudster who deprives many people of their hard-earned money by conjuring physical and spiritual influences in order to strip them of millions of dollars which he uses to fund his extravagant lifestyle. Things have now rightly come to a head following his arrest by Interpol and the FBI for allegedly fleecing a state in America millions meant for buying ventilators to save lives.

The implications of this negative media buzz created by Hushpuppi are too many to mention. It speaks of the kind of people Nigerians are. About glorifying fraud, unexplained money and supporting people even when they are doing the wrong things. The Nigerian society is so messed up that anything goes. People live for the moment and are comfortable to never practice what they preach. That is why politicians continue to steal money and get away with it. There is no culture of accountability. When you speak against fraud and the attendant calamity it brings upon victims, a deluge of comments from praise-singers attack you from all angle calling on you to mind 'your business' because in their minds 'nobody holy pass'. Just the same thing they do when it comes to prostitution. Obviously, everyone's moral compass is broken and spoilt. It is still these same shameful folks that will be the first to sit in front of churches and mosques. They believe in their tiny heads that they are God's favourite children. We are faced with a culture of silence, where nobody wants to know how you make your money, because all they want to see is you displaying wealth. No one cares about hardwork anymore.

Have you ever thought of what happens when someone is defrauded his or her hardearned money? Imagine you have been saving for months to pay a house rent of N700,000. You even had to deny yourself good time just to save this money and one day, someone finds his way into your account and drains it to the last kobo. The worst part is that you don't even know how the person got to your account in the first place and do not even have a trace of the person. Just like that, your N700,000 which you have been saving for months just vanished. This fellow who defrauded you, takes just hours to lavish the money you spent months saving on women, alcohol and weed. How will you feel? This scenario I just painted is the least in the kind of fraud these scammers engage in.

Many people have committed suicide, others have killed innocent people they had suspected were behind it and many others have become mentally deranged as a result of the trauma caused them after losing money they worked hard to save. Imagine you got millions in bank loan, only for you to wake up to realize that an internet fraudster has taken everything from you. Such a heartbreaking realization could make one go insane. That is the gravity of the situation we find ourselves when it comes to fraud, yet people act like it is nothing.

Businesses have closed down, people have fallen into depression, many have committed suicide all because of fraudsters. There is absolutely no justification for fraud. Fraudsters should be given the same treatment as armed robbers.

On the international stage, not only will anyone with Nigerian passport be scrutinized, there will be a lack of trust from agencies and organizations coming in contact with people from Nigeria. Not only do fraudsters do harm to their victims, they also smear the image of the country where they come from. Nigerian freelancers have for sometime expressed disappointment as it is very difficult to use a Nigerian IP address to get freelancing jobs on platforms like Fiverr, Udemy and others. As a result, hardworking Nigerians are losing foreign business clients because of the bad reputation fraudsters are bringing to the country. This is even more complicated by the hasty generalization by most foreigners who because of one individual have that twisted understanding that many others from the country are dubious-minded.

That stigma has finally come to hurt hardworking Nigerians, depriving them of their means of sustenance. So brothers and sisters, before you start celebrating unexplained money, think twice.

In a time of social media activism, while some people are using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to advance useful ideas to make the society better, some others have also decided to use these platforms for clout chasing, propaganda, popularity contest, and what-have-you.

It is for these set of people that I am writing this piece, to see if I can redeem the gullible ones who might have fallen victim to the bait.

A self-styled Nigerian relationship coach, Solomon Buchi got serious bashing on Friday after he said that no one owes his or her parents anything. He went further to say that 90% of African parents are entitled and toxic.

He tweeted: "You really don’t owe your parents anything — don’t let them manipulate you into feeling that they did you a favor by feeding & housing you, giving you education. You don’t owe them for this. I know this will offend some people, but 90% of African parents are entitled and toxic."

I am writing from a place of hurt because the post is about to hit 1,000 retweets and over 3.7k likes, with thousands embracing the idea as their truths. Some have gone ahead to defend the tweet. Such a sad time to be a Nigerian.

It is not hard to see the kind of upbringing Solomon endured from his tweet which is the reason for his baneful thought. Statistically, the idea that 90% of African parents are entitled and toxic is false because there is no data to back up such a claim. Brandishing data that is false to deceive the gullible is in itself a cheap way of leading many people astray. Honestly, I see that tweet as hate speech against hardworking African parents who should have used condom, postpill/postinor 2, or even aborted such twats in the first place. If not, why would a reasonable person utter such inanity.

Of course, many people can easily agree with Solomon:
1). People from broken homes
2). Those abused by their parents (sexually & physically)
3). People who never enjoyed parental care or love
4). Orphans.

So, if he had said that those who were abused, abandoned, or from broken homes etc, do not owe their parents, it would have been quite understandable. If he had said 'I Solomon Buchi, because of the way my father abused me or because of the way my mother treated me, I owe them nothing', we would have understood. But, rushing to join issues with all African parents is a sacrilege that we cannot forgive easily. Understandably, Solomon may have been abused as a child by his parents, but that should not give him the right to lead many people astray with his toxic coaching. Many who have a strained relationship with their parents will latch on this diabolical tweet to become demons to their parents.

I am really disappointed in Solomon. I thought he was doing well with his coaching career, only for him to spoil it with his dramatic clout chasing manoeuvres.

I've had this memory entrenched in me over time how my father and mother suffered trying to bring me and my six other siblings up. They sacrificed everything for us and sometimes had to go hungry just to see that we survive. Such level of sacrifice makes it even foolish if I had waited to see them beg for something I can afford before I answer them. I still feel sad that my father and mother are not around to enjoy the sacrifice they made on my behalf. I owe them all I have.

When I got admission into Government College Umuahia many years ago, it was my sweet mother who carried my locker on her head as my little self started my secondary school journey. You could see the proud smile on her face and the resolve in her mind to see me through even in those difficult times. Or is it the countless times she went to the farm many miles away, enduring hours under the hot sun just to see that we eat? How about my university days? The sacrifices father and mother made. I will stop there please, remembering all these stories will make me cry.

My story is akin to that of thousands of other Nigerians who proudly come from poor homes and have through hard work, made it in life. If Nigerians should start telling stories of the sacrifice their parents made to see them reach their present level, I am sure social media will not contain it.

It is necessary that we correct the 'indomie generation' of ungrateful scallywags who are happy to be led astray by clout chasing online savages only interested in growing their followers. These set of bitter individuals in a bid to sound 'woke', are content at leading many astray.

Even the holy book encouraged children to take care of their parents. Proverbs 23:22 “Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”

While unfortunate children hide under the 'You really don’t owe your parents anything' tweet to despise and abandon their parents, Africans who are cultured and naturally empathic, even when their parents wronged them would find ways to reconcile and not propagate such hate.

Before my mother died, she was the love of my life. I could give my life for her and the day she died, I was devastated that my prayer to swap places wasn't answered. Even in death, I still love and adore her. Nothing, I mean nobody has the right to tell others to treat their parents badly because they come from broken homes. Deceiving people into hating their parents with the idea that they owe them nothing is a teaching from a wicked soul.

I owe my parents everything, even in death. It is my resolve to continue to make them proud by my actions and inactions. Here I stan!

CelebritiesCoronavirus Drama: Poet Narrates Sad Experience At Bank Today by Thandiubani(op): 4:09pm On May 07, 2020
A Nigerian poet, Alexander Thandi Ubani has taken to Twitter to vent his frustration after a disappointing episode at a bank today.

He took to his Twitter handle @thandiubani and wrote:

Had an awful day.

I arrived GTBank 23 road festac at about 7:03 am today with my facemask to withdraw dollars.

A crowd was there waiting for me with different facemasks.

Like a school of whales, we shouted and murmured at the bank officials for pegging resumption time at 9:00am.

It was going to be a long day after my name ended up on number 136. They gave me a white paper with number 136. I didn't mind if I will get my dollars. So I stood up for long hours just in front of the bank like all the others patiently waiting for my turn.

1, 2, 3 hours gone into the long wait, a shouting match erupted.

A man had noticed that the bank security officers were secretly collecting money to allow people who don't have number to enter.

The young man with a quiet beard and outstretched neck raised his voice at the officials raining expletive at him for daring to prolong his stay at the bank with his economic magomago.

Quietly, I watched with rapt attention to know how it will end because some minutes before that, another man had been accosted and put in his place for trading his number for an undisclosed amount.

The young man with the quiet beard attracted a bigger crowd who directed their anger at the bank security official.

They tried to restrict the young man from getting physical with the security official who had admitted his guilty before promising to follow the book. It wasn't long before it got to the turn of the young man with a quiet beard. He left and calm returned.

I was tired of standing up when I decided to help myself to a nearby pavement, only for my Samsung Tab to fall inside the gutter and drink dirty water.

I was flustered, livid and saddened by the incident that I didn't even know what to do.

DAY RUINED!

It was as if someone had planned to make things even more gruelling for me. It got to my turn around 2:20 pm.

I entered the banking hall after the long hours only for the official who attended to me to tell me that the bank doesn't have dollars.

'What!'

I screamed.

Why didn't you tell me since or make an announcement outside instead of allowing me waste my precious time and money waiting in vain only to hear this awful news?

I bellowed at the teller official.

She didn't give me any reasonable answer. She watched me like a ghost. Shaking her big head and venomous eyes.

I wanted to shout and scream at her, carry one of the iron stools and smash it on the glass near me. But, I just didn't want to make a scene cos even if I do, dollars no dey. They are probably using it to trade because $1/over N400 now.

I carried my two legs labourly out of the bank with anger hanging on my teeth. God punish GTBank. You guys wasted my 7 precious hours. I am not crying sha!

@cenbank this is how @gtbank and @gtbank_help made me suffer today without even a 'sorry' from them. Is it fair?"

PoliticsWhat Happens When The Son Of A Nigerian Governor Threatens To Gangrape Your Mom by Thandiubani(op): 5:48pm On Apr 18, 2020
Today, I will not write about a Nigerian governor who locks up journalists for criticizing his government. I will spare you all the grumble; I won't even talk about how he organizes literary festivals where writers go to enjoy the goodies of life and come out unaroused and silent even when one of them is being strangled by the same folk. Not today, no not today.

I found out today that when you are the son of a governor, you can threaten to gangrape anyone and go scotfree. Nothing will happen to you as far as you release a watery apology to save face after insulting prominent individuals who had expressed shock over your shameful misdeed that was hailed by your own mother.

I have always followed Kaduna State Governor's son Bello El-Rufai closely and watched from afar his antics on social media, especially his penchant for insulting people (old and young) who hold different opinions from his. I thought he was loud, but I didn't know he is a depraved child. I am shocked because I know that it is only people from a debased home that talk the way he did to a Twitter user some days ago. I had expected a certain level of decorum from him.

Reading a reply to a Twitter user who disagreed with his political view shows a man who has lost every iota of respect for the women-folk, for himself, family, community, and for people from other ethnic groups. All I see now, is a man if given a position of power will use it to explore his sexual fantasies.

"Tell your mother I’m passing her to my friends tonight. “No Igbo sounds please!” Bello tweeted.

“Your mother is the main LovePeddler of the South-East. I can’t reply you publicly. F**k Kanu and take a picture of the Second Niger Bridge, thanks to Buhari. My mentions are mine. If a Sunday bastard makes up lies and drags my father, his mother will be games. If he doesn’t want it, he shouldn’t mention me. The crowd has never phased (sic) me.

“Truly your mother’s son. Does she still earn by earning 2,019 naira per suck on Azikwe Street, Aba LGA? Tell her to wear mask and gloves while doing it due to this pandemic.” he added in another tweet.

The perverseness of the words above can only come from a (sexual) pervert, a predator who derives joy in bringing violence on a woman's body. An animal who takes by force what belongs to another. Or how else does he explain having carnal knowledge of a Twitter user's mother and giving her to his friends without using force - an act called rape. Bello boldly threatened to rape another person's mother like it is nothing. Such a man deserves to be locked away from a sane society and unfit to hold any position of power because he is bound to use it to exploit and force his will on others. He is a disaster waiting to happen.

I know for sure that if his father was not a governor and he was just like every other Nigerian who is not sheilded by the corrupt system, he would have been arrested. Where are the anti-rape warriors? You can't see any cos if you dare speak, you might likely disappear before you even finish shouting rape. Or maybe, you will lose your job because your boss, a supposed feminist and anti-rape advocate answers to the oracle who backs the man threatening to rape another person's mother.

The events of the last few days how Bello threatened to gangrape the mother of a Twitter user just because he chose a different line of political argument from his is a reminder to all of us how unlucky it is to be a Nigerian. The rich and powerful, especially those who through dubious means found themselves controlling state power have always hounded, harassed, chased and killed ordinary Nigerians who have opposed their twisted minds. Bello is not just a disgrace to his family, he is a primitive-minded-powerhungry-goon who rides on the back of his father's political shoes for clout. He is no achiever, a social media rambler who sits in the comfort of his room chasing after sexual innuendos, looking for a victim to unleash his insatiable desires. He is a product of a longstained ethnic relationship that has stopped the country from reaching its peak.

Apart from threatening to sexually molest the twitter user's mother, he went as far as making mockery of the entire Igbo land, even when the person he was threatening didn't come from there. Bello's recent act shows his psyche is polluted not just with depravity, but also a deep hatred for an entire ethnic group. Without mincing words, Bello exposed himself as a tribal bigot, a pseudo-ethnic-warrior whose hatred for the Igbos is legendary.

In no distant time, Bello will be forced on the masses either as a state house of assembly member, or even pushed to the house of Representatives and maybe the Senate where he will brazenly achieve his objective of pointing at people's mothers and gangraping them without anyone batting an eyelid.

At this point, Bello needs help. That help should not come from his mother, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, wife of the Kaduna state governor who saw nothing wrong with her son's perverse statement and even supported him when she was tagged to it. A mother who reads her son's tweet planning to gangrape another person's mother with his friends and finds it 'fair' deserves a shameful handshake. A mother, girlchild advocate, author, feminist and anti-rape advocate like Hadiza failed women on all fronts with her holey response to her son's vile excesses.

Be that as it may, we all must be human, but that doesn't mean that in the face of all their apologies we should forget the perverseness that has taken over their minds. And at a time people keep missing for criticizing these fellas, I have told my friends who to hold responsible if anything happens to me.

Always remember, no matter how hard it tries, a Leopard can never change its spots.

PoliticsCOVIK 1-9: The Day An Islamic Cleric Dragged Buhari Like A Faulty Generator by Thandiubani(op):
By Alexander Thandi Ubani

Popular Islamic cleric, Imam Tawhidi aka Imam of Peace on Friday called President Muhammadu Buhari the dumbest president to ever rule Nigeria. His annoyance could be traced to Buhari's epic blunder on national television while addressing the nation on the coronavirus pandemic where he couldn't pronounce the name of the disease that has crippled nations and killed thousands of people all over the world. Instead of COVID-19 as it is known, Buhari called it COVIK 1-9.

Angry that a president of a country could be that doltish, Imam Tawhidi dragged Buhari like a faulty generator on Twitter - it was really that bad. So bad, that one of Buhari's aides had to lie that Imam Tawhidi blocked him just for him to evade questions put to him by worried Nigerians who were concerned how the President's miscalculations had brought the country global humiliation.

The issue which was resurrected on Twitter on Friday really caused a social media storm with Buhari and his supporters totally drubbed and silenced by missiles from Imam Tawhidi. Nigerians who had long stomached Buhari's incompetence latched on the trend to pour vituperations on the president, his supporters and members of the ruling party.

Imam Tawhidi called out Buhari over his failure to address Nigerians on coronavirus outbreak. He also lambasted Buhari over his poor handling of terrorism in Nigeria after Boko Haram terrorists some days ago killed over 40 soldiers. He called Buhari's tactics of releasing thousands of terrorists 'foolish', as he emphasized that these same terrorists that are released, travel abroad and return to kill more Nigerians and security operatives.

Of course, Buhari brought this upon himself. Listening to Buhari speak is enough to convince you that he's a man at war with intelligence, himself, age, time and everything. A man who has taken a task far beyond his scope of understanding. Academically unsound, he speaks like someone who never passed through the four walls of a school. Even if these points are to be excused, his lack of wit and discernment when it comes to national and global issues are legendary pointers to his imprudence.

As the world is dragged on its knees by the deadly coronavirus virus which has established itself as a notorious global killer, ripping states, countries and continents apart with unbelievable easy, it sounds unthinkable that a world leader and president of a country like Buhari has not made it a point of duty to know what's going on around him; to know about this deadly killer disease especially for the fact that he's more at risk because of his hobby to gallivant the globe at any given excuse.

Buhari on March 22nd made a historic blunder on national television by pronouncing COVID-19 as COVIK 1-9. His handlers passed it off as another of his junk trademark. But, they were wrong.

Such an unforgivable blunder goes beyond mere speaking, it tells of a man totally disconnected from the events around him. It tells of a man who is not aware of his environment, a man detached from the rest of the world. It speaks of a man who is forgetful of his world, remoted and suffering from acute amnesia. It tells of a man tired of the burden of leadership imposed on him by those who stood to gain as far as he continues to stay in power. It speaks of a tired man secretly wishing to elope from his current position, but cowered by the wishes and caprices of power-hungry fellas controlling him.

It is a shame that a man who leads the most populous nation in Africa could be unaware of a disease that has crippled nations. Such ineptitude shows the level of decadence that has corrupted the highest level of leadership in Nigeria. As dump as such an act could be, it shows Buhari as a leader who is cluelessly paddling the boat of his country to an unknown destination. Even after such a ridiculous blunder, his aides who should have been sacked for making the president look stupid, went to market to insult those frowning at the blunder. Exactly the same script they keep playing anytime the President ridicules himself. I even wonder if the President enjoys acting the fool for his aides. It is inexcusable that Buhari doesn't know the name of the deadly disease killing his people and he calls himself President of Nigeria. It shows clearly that he doesn't care.

That's why you do not need to look far to know why Imam of Peace, Imam Tawhidi took Buhari and his supporters to the cleaners. He soaked, washed, dried and spread them on the hanger like a new dress. He called Buhari the dumbest person in Nigeria for not knowing the name of the disease that has killed thousands and infected over 300,000 people all over the world. A disease that has forced countries to lock borders, economies crashing and people forced to stay at home. How could he lock down the country, order civil servants to stay at home and even his chief of staff tested positive for the virus yet he knows not about the disease let alone its name. The only explanation is that the president is not the president.

It is quite clear that Buhari by himself, decided to become a global laughing stock, a thing of caricature and entertainment for the international audience through his clueless acts.

Like the Imam said, truth has no nationality. If we do not tell Buhari the truth about the lies he has been fed, he might die an unhappy man who had intentions of changing his country but was denied the opportunity by the hawks he surrounded himself with. Just the same way they have been lying for years now that Boko Haram has been defeated. Yet, the same people you defeated have been killing soldiers as if they are baits used for hunting practice. The same way he deceived Nigerians by lying that he has removed oil subsidy whereas his government secretly pays same subsidy he swore had been removed. It is obvious Buhari is not one of us. What they have given him, I can't say, but he is totally in a world of his own - high on a cheap weed that disconnects him from present realities. It is quite sad that the president's handlers have once again found another opportunity to ridicule him on the global stage. What a pity!

RomanceWhy Men Are Dying On Top Women by Thandiubani(op): 11:33am On Feb 12, 2020
By Alexander Thandi Ubani
@thandiubani

The number of men dying on top women is becoming very worrisome in Nigeria these days. This ugly trend must be reversed before it ruins the society.

Just some days ago, a lawyer, Sir Eric Igbedion Agboegbulem died after allegedly sleeping with a prostitute named Precious. The married lawyer who was said to be hypertensive had taken the young lady to a hotel and after having fun, gave up the ghost.

Since I was born, I am yet to hear news that a woman died on top a man. That tells you that in some cases the only way you can win as a man is lying flat and lifeless on the floor.

Just last year and this year alone, I have read countless stories of men dying on top women. Not even one, I mean not even one story of a woman dying on top a man.

The first story I read this year was about Davy who staked N50,000 after boasting that he would defeat his lover, loveth in bed. This story happened in Ikotun area of Lagos, according TheGuardian. And before one could say 'jack', Davy slumped and died while on the seventh round. Local man gave up the ghost in a disastrous way. Loveth spent the rest of her days at the police station awaiting autopsy result.

Another one I read is that of Onyekachi Nwosu. He was a businessman who booked a hotel in Aguda area of Surulere in Lagos to have fun with his lover. When he thought he was about to reach the peak, that was when he began gasping for air and died. He forgot that sweet things in the middle can also kill. The 36 year-old businessman's death led to the arrest of people at the hotel and her lover too. You see how this thing can put innocent people in trouble?

The manager of the hotel when asked what happened by the police, said that the businessman died after one round. He started shivering and gave up the ghost. That's another local man gone.

Then in Delta, Ibusa to be precise. That was how a married 55 year-old commercial driver wasted his life after trying to out muscle his lover, a mother of three in the bedroom. He paid with his dear life. The sweet part is that the woman ran for her life. They are still looking for her.

Just some days ago, another local man, Danjuma Yahaya Alli added his name to the long list of departed souls after engaging his lover in a marathon coitus. That was how Danjuma saw stars and died on top Victory Amaize in Abuja.

The story goes on and on. I believe drugs, desire to impress and a case of 'when one's cup is full' are the contributing factors to this ugly precedents. Men should stop killing themselves with drugs like tramadol, samsu and others. Take what your natural strength can give and stop dying to impress women. Stop the show off and sleeping with other people's wives. Stolen meat maybe be sweet to the mouth, remember the bone can also do you harm. Everyday for the thief, one day for the owner of the house. I am calling on all men to stop killing themselves for women. This is why they are dying like chickens on top women.

If you are a one minute man, talk to me and I will help you with natural ways to regain your strength (hahaha). Stop allowing toxic material in your body or you will end up dead like the people I narrated their stories above. Stop trying to impress girls Charlie. You will die o.

To be forwarned is to be forearmed.

RomanceThe Real Story Of A Jss2 Student Impregnating A Female Nysc Member by Thandiubani(op): 8:33am On Feb 12, 2020
Some days ago, reports went viral that a JSS2 student impregnated a female NYSC member leaving many in shock.

The story goes this way: a randy female member of the National Youth Service Corps got impregnated by a junior secondary school student in Akwa Ibom.

According to the news which trended some days ago, both have been having a secret affair.

Well, everything got exposed after the NYSC member's stomach got bigger attracting the attention of people.

The story further revealed that the school expelled both the student and the NYSC member, even reporting her to the authorities. Now she's in hot soup.

I was really shocked when I read the story.

I found the news fishy and decided to dig more about it 'cos I found it hard to believe that a graduate would condescend so low as to sleep with a JSS2 student who's probably 11 or 12 years.

To me, that's unthinkable.

Where will they even be doing the bedmatics, come to think of it. No mention of the school or community where the incident took place except the state in the news report.

After a little digging, I found out the story was just another concocted news just for the sake of sensationalism, clicks and money.

I found out that the same story trended on Twitter in 2016 and was posted on Nairaland way back in 2016, about an NYSC member getting pregnant for a JSS2 student.

But this time, the fake writer of the news said it happened in Osun. If you think I am joking, just type 'Jss2 Student Impregnates nysc member in Osun' and you will see the same story happened in 2016.

So many fake stories on news platform these days.

The worst is that, it is these fake stories that can't stop trending. When you write something meaningful and educative, Nigerians will just jump and pass. But, write rubbish for them, you will see everybody sharing it.

People continue to read junk. Such a sad tale!

The news media in Nigeria is becoming a serious joke and I am very sick of it.

I first read this recent edition of the story that said it happened in Akwa Ibom state on Opera News and I was shocked that such a thing could be published on the platform.

What a joke!

That discovery gave impetus to my personal conviction that Opera News intentionally proliferate its platform with sensational and fake news just to keep readers occupied.

The sad part is that for such a story to trend on its platform, it is another way of tarnishing the image of the NYSC programme. I have no doubt in me that Opera News has become a dumpsite for fake, sensational and nonsensical stories.

If you try to correct the anomaly or write about it on their platform, those incompetent editors on the platform will never publish it. Phew!!!

Rant over!
