Quantitative Section

? In the math section, you will have 75 minutes to answer 37 questions:
? A of these question are experimental and would not be counted toward your score.
There is no way to identify which questions are experimental as they one mixed in
randomly through out the section.
? This section includes two types of questions: Problem solving and Data sufficiency.
? For each problem solving section, you are to solve the problem and indicate the best of
the answer choices given.
? For each data sufficiency question, you are to decide whether the information given in
each of two statements, labeled (1) and (2), is sufficient to answer the question, whether
the information in the two statements together is sufficient, or if neither is sufficient.
? More detailed dissection will appear before the first occurrence of each question type. At
any point in the test, you can read the direction for the question type you working on by

Clothing: Nigerian fashion is highly trendy and revolutionary. You often find the latest designs and redesigns of styles and patterns. The typical wear is colorful especially for the women and the traditional wear of most Nigerian men and women is
the style called buba which is usually sown as a loose fitting long-sleeved shirt or blouse. Other common styles include skirts,
trousers or pants, Scaff and are mostly made of Ankara material.
Nigeria had her independence from England on the 1st of October, 1960 and there are a
lot of younger population group making 19 years the average (median) age for Nigerian
males and females. There are slightly more men than women in Nigeria in the ratio of 1.04 males for every female.
Owing to insecurity of lives, threats from crimes, natural disasters and pollution, the
average life expectancy in Nigeria is low with men having 46.16 years and women living 47.76 years nevertheless, the population of Nigerian people is still on the
increase due to high birth rates. There are 36.65 newborns for every 1,000 people, making the country the 28th highest in the
world in terms of birth rate.
Education / Re: University Of Ibadan 2015/16 Applicants by thankyouJesus(m): 7:40am On Nov 13, 2015
There are about 162.5 million Nigerians (According to the World Bank and United States Census Bureau). This makes Nigeria
the 8th most populous country in the world and the largest in Africa. Nigerian people have a high fertility rate which accounts for
the population explosion witnessed in the country in the past 50 years. The population
of Nigeria has increased from 37 million in 1950 to 158 million in 2010. This represents about 400% increase in the past 60 years
and if things continue with this trend, Nigeria’s population will be more than 0.6 billion in the next 60 years. Nigeria is a West
African country located on the southern coastal part of western Africa. The capital of Nigeria is Abuja and Lagos is the country’s
largest city. Read through this article as I share the most interesting facts about Nigeria.
There are 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria: the Hausa-Fulani, the Igbo and the Yoruba and all together, these three groups constitute about 70 per cent of the
population of Nigeria.
The distribution of Nigerian people among the remaining ethnic groups is in such a way that 10 per cent is constituted by some
other groups numbering more than 1 million each. These include the Ibibio, Kanuri, Tiv etc. More than 300 other ethnic groups constitute the outstanding 20 per
cent of the population.
The Yoruba.
The South Western part of Nigeria is home to most Yorubas and they are among the group of Nigerian people where culture is still pretty much preserved. They are well
involved in arts and have a long history of poetry, beadwork, metalwork, weaving and
mask making. The typical artwork of Yoruba is made to honour the ancestors and gods as they believe in a lot of deities. Yorubas,
just like the Greeks, have over 400 deities, so there are a lot of artworks and sculptures to
be made.
The Igbos.
The Igbos occupy the South Eastern part of Nigeria divided into the eastern and western region by the river Niger.
Historically, the Igbos originate from Nri community dated back to the stone age.
Igbos are known to be highly enterprising and industrious, a trait that has been in the
group for a long time. They have a colourful and warm cultural display and all around them are other ethnic groups like Ogoni,
Ibibio, igala, Bini, Warri, Tiv, Ijaw, Yako etc.
Hausa/ Fulan.i
Among the Nigerian people, the Hausa/Fulani occupy the northern parts of the country and their population spreads beyond Nigeria, involving other parts of
West Africa where they constitute the largest single ethnic group in West Africa with population of over 30 million. In Nigeria, Hausas are often taken as same with the Fulanis. The cultural similarities
between the Hausa and Fulani allow for significant marriage and integration between the two groups. This has resulted as in the term “Hausa-Fulani” being used as
one entity to depict Hausa of Fulani. The most popular cities occupied by Hausa- Fulani in the Northern parts of the country
include: Kaduna, Sokoto, Kastina, Zaria, Jos, Kano, etc.
Language: There are quite a lot of cultural diversities among the people of Nigeria as are many ethnic groups in the country. The
official language of Nigeria is English but each ethnic group has its own language.
Pidgin English is also a “national” but informal language spoken across the country.
Religion of Nigerian People: Christianity and Islam are the two main religions in the country and statistically, Islam constitutes
about 50% while Christians make up 40% with the remaining 10% being practitioners of traditional religion and atheists. Muslims
dominate the Northern Nigeria while Christians dominate the Southern parts of the country and periods of peace are marred by occasional violence between the
Christians and the Muslims.
Nigerian Sports: Football is the national sport of Nigeria and the national team is called the Super Eagles. It is a sport that the
country is comparatively good at and has won the African Cup of Nations on several occasions.
Nigerian Food: There are several foods prepared and cooked in Nigeria and most of
these are tailored towards the various cultures of the different ethnic groups. Their method of preparation differs among the
various tribes even when the same food stuffs are used. Most common Nigeria staple
food include: rice, beans, yam, millet, cassava, plantain etc.

9. The First National Elections; Shortly after Nigeria gained its
independence, the country held its first national elections which was done to establish the country’s first independent government. The elections took place in the
month of December, 1964.
10. Transition of power; The year 2007 was a notable one in
Nigerian history as the year marks the first time that ruling government parties had a
peaceful transition of power since Nigeria became a peaceful state. Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua took control of the government
from Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who ruled the nation for 8 years.

6. Lord Lugard’s Ruthless Government in Nigeria; Fredrick Lugard was an ex-British soldier
who was given the responsibility of running Nigeria in 1912. When Lord Lugard was in charge of the country, he spent half of his time running Nigeria from England. Lugard didn’t like the Nigerians. During his reign he permitted slavery in some parts of the colony and used the military to keep control. He is remembered as one of the worst colonial rulers in Nigerian history and this motivated some Nigerian people to begin the process of having their freedom from the British Empire.
7. Nigeria’s Decolonization and
Independence; Shortly after World War II was over, many nations within Africa began to want their
independence from European powers that colonized most of the continent. The British Empire was the primary colonizer of Africa
and nationalism began to grow all
throughout the continent. Many Nigerians were fed up with the British and had been indirectly seeking to be free from them for
years. Eventually, Nigerian nationals were able have their independence in 1960 aided
by the fact that Britain was a beaten and devastated nation that could no longer hold
onto their overseas territories.
8. Nigeria’s First Republic; In the year 1963 all of the British power had pulled out of the country and the nation was finally free to govern its own affairs. Even
though the British no longer remained in power they still had considerable influence on the society and culture of Nigeria. English still remains a part of this country and many British people still conduct business and live
in the nation.

3. The Establishment of Hausa Kingdom; The Islamic Hausa Empire was established from a group of old city states that lay
between the Niger River and Lake Chad. The Hausa people were influenced by the Islamic
religion and it was also a powerful center for trade and commerce. The Hausa had considerable influence over many people
within the central Nigerian area. They even posed an economic and cultural challenge to other major empires of that time such as Mali.
This empire fell apart in 1808 and when the British arrived in 1880 they helped the Hausa to reclaim the influence and position they lost in the past.
4. British Began to Conquer Nigeria; One of the most notable events in the Nigerian history occurred in 1901 when the
British formally made Nigeria a protectorate.
The British had first entered into the area during the 1880’s in order to trade with Nigerians. Once the British took over Nigeria
they began to dictate the affairs of the territory and enslaved parts of the population. They enforced colonial rule and ran the country for almost 50 years. The British modernized the country at this point and introduced its society to western influence.
5. Christian Missionaries began Activity in Southern Nigeria; Christian missionaries closely followed the British as they were coming to Nigeria to start off their missionary work. It made the
most influence on the religions lives of Nigerians especially those in the southern parts of the nation making this moment a remarkable one in the Nigerian history. At this time, many Nigerians were introduced
to the Christian religion which has
continued to wax stronger since that time.
Religious beliefs among Nigerians have sometimes gone to a matter of life and death resulting in conflicts especially between the Muslims in the North and the
Christians in the South.

Nigeria is officially known as the First Republic of Nigeria and is located in the western part of Africa. One of the most interesting parts of the Nigerian history is
the fact that the most populous country in Africa was formed by the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates by
Lord Lugard in 1914. This article sheds more light on some of the most memorable events that had transpired in the Nigerian history
before and after the country was formed.
History and events shape the future of any great nation so read and discover the memorable incidences that has occurred
since the inception of the largest country in Africa.
1. The Yoruba and the Kingdom of Nri; Even though the Yoruba was the first major tribal group in the nation, the Kingdom of Nri was the first established monarchy in
the history of Nigeria. Nri was the originator of the Igbo culture which was a major influential group in the region after its
establishment in 948 AD. At this time, the Kingdom of Nri was unique because the rulers governed the people through the use of political, economic and religious authority and didn’t need to use force to control their
subjects. The Nri was also a safe haven for people who had been ostracized from their communities and for people escaping from
slavery.
2. Benin Empire; The Benin Empire began in the 15th century when it was founded by the Edo people who resided in western Africa. Benin was an important empire within the history of Nigeria because it rose to international fame for its artworks which was exported to different parts of Europe and the rest of the
world. The Empire of Benin was a trading one that was highly organized and efficient. Benin
was the first Nigerian territory that rivaled any contemporary European power in terms
of governance and function. This empire was intact when the British arrived in Benin
during the 19th century.
