Encircled by expectant cheers of Egyptian fans, Mohamed Salah, appeared at the Pharaohs’ final pre-World Cup training session and kindled hopes he can overcome injury to aid Egypt’s first shot at the tournament in nearly three decades.

Liverpool’s star striker, who is recovering from a shoulder injury that saw him crash out of the Champions League final, strolled around the Cairo pitch talking to colleagues and supporters but did not take part in the team’s last late night practice before heading to Russia.

Horns blasted, snack-sellers hollered and chants of “Come, Salah, Come Salah!” rang through the capital’s stadium, crowded by thousands of fans keen to encourage their team ahead of their first World Cup appearance since 1990.

Salah, who hit a stunning 44 goals for Liverpool last season following his move from Roma, is the linchpin of Egyptian hopes in Russia.

He has been picked for the World Cup squad despite having been forced out of the Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in tears clutching his left shoulder.

Many of his fans had feared he would miss the WorldCup altogether, but his appearance in Cairo has reignited expectations in The Pharaohs’ key striker.

“He will participate, God willing, he must,” said Seif Ibrahim, a 24-year-old salesman wearing Salah’s Egypt jersey.

Fans screamed in delight when Salah’s name was read out over the loudspeaker, while those able to get to the pitch took selfies with their hero.

He gave fans a sliver of hope when he managed to briefly dribble the ball on the corner of the pitch, before returning to the sidelines.

“I was so sad, but now I’m happy to see him in real life, and he seems to be doing fine even if he isn’t actually training with the others,” said Nahed Mostafa, 38, who attended the session with her young children.

‘Historic moment’

The Pharaohs, record seven-time African champions, have qualified for the World Cup for only the third time.

They begin their Russian campaign on June 15 against twice former winners Uruguay.

The Egyptian football federation said after Salah’s injury that he could be out for three weeks, meaning he would miss their opening Group A match but could then be available against Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia on June 25.

Supporters at the Cairo ground, waving the national flag, also yelled enthusiastic approval for the team’s other star players — goalkeeper Essam El Hadary and midfielder Abdallah El Said.

Police in riot gear patrolled the stadium, which was filled to around a quarter of its capacity — a rare sight at Egypt’s highly-restricted football grounds.

Authorities imposed a ban on fans attending local matches after a 2012 stadium riot in Port Said left 74 people dead. The restriction was partially relaxed earlier this year.

“This is an exceptional event because a whole generation has been excluded from stadiums,” said Mostafa Abdallah, a 64-year-old schoolteacher, who wore a checkered shirt and a delighted grin.

“I came for this historic moment, and to admire my country’s team.”

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has sworn in three new high court judges who were recently appointed for the state to enhance quick dispensation of justice.

The governor stated that the appointment of the judges will go a long way in bridging critical manpower gaps to the judiciary, as well as expanding her capacity to do quick and substantial justice.

The appointment of the judges cut across the senatorial district, which was administered at the Government House in Lokoja, the state capital.

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, urged the new judges to uphold the virtues of integrity, impartiality, and courage in the dispensation of justice at all time.

While the governor further assured that his administration would continue to give the needed support and conducive atmosphere for the judges to discharge their duties without fear or favour

The judges were also gifted with jeeps to enhance their vehicular movement.

If it's PDP that wins not Ben Bruce and if it's APC that wins not Ben Bruce too. Head or tail Ben Bruce will be a single tenure senator.

President Donald Trump lashed out at US allies on Monday, in a Twitter rant, focusing on trade following a contentious G7 summit of economic powers in Canada, at the weekend.

“Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal,” Trump tweeted, as he criticised Canadian tariffs on imports of US milk.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau then “acts hurt when called out!” Trump wrote.

Trump pulled out of endorsing a joint communique after the G7 meet finished on Saturday with the US president accusing Trudeau, the summit’s chairman, of dishonesty.

His Twitter rant on Monday continued: “Why should I, as President of the United States, allow countries to continue to make Massive Trade Surpluses, as they have for decades, while our Farmers, Workers & Taxpayers have such a big and unfair price to pay? Not fair to the PEOPLE of America!”

Adding to the US trade deficit is “the fact that the U.S. pays close to the entire cost of NATO-protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on Trade (they pay only a fraction of the cost-and laugh!).”

He said the European Union “should pay much more for Military!”

According to Trump, Germany “pays 1% (slowly) of GDP towards NATO, while we pay 4% of a MUCH larger GDP. Does anybody believe that makes sense? We protect Europe (which is good) at great financial loss, and then get unfairly clobbered on Trade. Change is coming!”

Figures that Trump cites in his tweets have often been found to be incorrect or misleading.

He concluded: “Sorry, we cannot let our friends, or enemies, take advantage of us on Trade anymore. We must put the American worker first!”

Almost as an afterthought, Trump — currently in Singapore for a summit with North Korean leader Kum Jong Un — tweeted: “Great to be in Singapore, excitement in the air!”

Argentina captain Lionel Messi said his international future will be determined by his country’s performance at the World Cup in Russia.

“It will depend on how far we go, how we’re going to finish” at the finals, Messi said in an interview with Spanish daily Sport.

“We’ve just lost three finals in a row, which has led to us going through some difficult moments with the press,” added the Barcelona forward.

“Notably with the Argentine press because we have differences of opinion over what it means to make these three finals.”

Argentina lost the 2014 World Cup final 1-0 to Germany after extra time, before suffering successive defeats by Chile on penalties at the Copa America in 2015 and 2016.

Messi, who will turn 31 during the World Cup, believes Spain, Brazil, Germany, France and Belgium are the leading contenders for the title.

“There are lots of teams who arrive with lots of confidence, with both a team game and individual talents,” said the five-time world player of the year.

Argentina launch their World Cup campaign against Iceland on Saturday in Moscow, with games to follow against Croatia and Nigeria in Group D.
